No, in fact I would recommend braining your hair if you want it to grow, as it prevents breakage. I keep my hair in a braid probably 90% of the time.

Man. my hair is only a super tiny bit past my elbows.

I can't wait to get to your length. I used to trim it every 3 months but now I'm holding back on that and just trimming the splits when I see em.

It's taken me 6 and a half years. nearly 7 to reach the length I'm at and that's like half of your length!

For those of you out there who want to know the "secret" to long hair (as I've had hair down past my knees, now it's to my bum) I recommend not using heated appliances on it (straightners, etc) nor use products. Get it trimmed every so often, and drink lots of green tea! Well, I don't know if the green tea helps but I drink about 4 cups a day...so maybe it helps. =)

Don't use heated appliances very often, use hairspray etc., don't tug really hard on knots, condition well and get it trimmed every few months or so are the main things people do. And also, having a good diet is very helpful. Usually if you do that, you don't need hydration.
