Nice point. I'm not sure I remember the rational we had at the time we made this, but I think it was something along the lines of: "The colonies were farther from Britain, and so the King had less of a market stranglehold on them." But really, we're just full of it. Smith didn't visit America. This was just an Economics Project and I think our teacher cared more about the movie being interesting than fully accurate. Think of it as an alternate history. Suspend your disbelief just a little ;)
