  • Lady was very nice nice!

  • thank you , clear & easy .. I hope you'll make more videos like this ( painting-related ) in the future

  • Very nice

  • very nice!

varnish can oxidize your paper support, making it more brittle. and it can crack and crumble just like a biscuit. in addition, the typical varnish tend to yellow and darken. i am sure you would not like this to happen to your painting.

therefore, if possible, avoid varnishing altogether. protect the paper painting by covering it with glass (avoid glass from being in direct contact to the paper).

remember: consider the least intervention - just like human patients!

  • It is true that oil paints, turps, mineral spirits, etc., have toxic chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled as the turps or mineral spirits evaporate. Use excellent ventilation. I paint with oils and love them. One day I was so extremely tired I could not move.. I finally made myself get up to work and took out the trash where I had thrown paper towels with turps in them. 20 minutes later I was completely restored. Be cautious.

  • it's your choice, I'm just spreading the word.

  • ''If you are using oil paint and solvents, the turps alone carry these carcinogens directly through your skin into your blood stream. That's a fact. No doubt about it.''

You can get all the depth you want with acrylics.

I put my paint in a tupperware bowl with a wet sponge under it. Keeps it very moist and I can take all the time I need.

I myself have a tube of toxic paint with Cadmium, but once I'm done, I'll be careful to get the non toxic one.

  • @soleilangela

It is nonsense to say that the depth of acrylics can equal that of oil paint. It's not even necessarily about the skill of the artist involved; acrylic paints have a plastic base and are more opaque and less versatile in the ways they can be altered and applied. The many beautiful effects that oil paint can achieve can't all be seen in a reproduced image but if you look at an amazing acrylic painting next to an amazing oil painting, the difference would be clear enough.

  • @Sievr I work in both acrylics and oils and I can honestly say that both have their unique qualities and strengths for certain applications. I for one use oils chiefly for painting people, fabrics and varied animals. I use acrylics for just about everything else. Most of my latest paintings have a combination of both media as I do believe that just sticking to one media can be limiting if you ignore the strengths and even some superior qualities of the other.

  • ''Heavy metal pigments are carcinogens. There is no argument about that. There is no 'safe level' of exposure to carcinogens. Cadmium, Cobalt, Lead, etc. are 'heavy metal carcinogens'. Cadmium is not even that permanent. If exposed to UV light (you carry your painting outside to your car) Cadmium changes chemically and becomes muddy and not stable. ''

  • oil paint is toxic and no good for the environnement. I just use acrylic and it last much longer then oil.

  • I have seen you post this same message on other videos about oil painting. Why don't you post positive comments about acrylics on videos about acrylic painting instead of negative comments about oils on videos about oil painting?

  • because I believe it important to sensibilize people about the environnement and find it very sad to see that most painters don't seem to give a damn. That's why. People should know that it can also cause cancer to use oil paint.

People who use acrylics already know this so I don't have to tell them.

The truth isn't always fun nor convenient to hear, but it must be said and known.

and it's not intended to be negative, on the contrary, it's a good thing that I'm sure many will like to know.

  • so are cars toxic, oh and people but we have plenty of those. Oils are far superior to acrylics, acrylics are great for outdoor or fast jobs but do not give the depth of oils when used properly

  • oh would also like to add that unless you eat the oil paint it wont harm you, if you use pure turpentine it wont harm you unless you drink it, lead has been removed from nearly all oil paint. The problem it seems is that you dont know how to use the materials properly.

  • for anyone reeading this, dont use grumbacher, use gamblin its the best.

  • Very good advices, thank you

  • Very help. How long will this last. Thank you.

  • very helpful, thanks

  • thank you
