Food prices on the rise. Mercury found in high fructose corn syrup. Melamine found in baby formula. Aspertame an addmitted neurotoxin. Sodium fluoride, a banned pesticide, in our toothepaste. GM crops comprising 90%+ of our corn and soybeans. And home gardens being banned.

I don't mean to sound pompous but, they bought all of the most expensive products from a grocer (Trader Joe's) that is WAY overpriced. I could have gotten all of that (at the same quality) for $60-$80 in my local grocer, and at farmers markets. That family was paying for the privilege of having everything pre-packaged for them. This is a biased report. Things are bad in the world, but don't lie to people just to get a response.

Am I the only one on the planet that sees the painfully obvious? Global food prices are up because crude oil now trades at $130/barrel as opposed to $30/barrel. When the American economy takes a hit like this, it will be felt globally. We must turn our efforts toward biofuel, leaving less food for the world at large. Blame OPEC and Exxon. Cheaper oil will stabalize food prices.

We had a decent alternative (nuclear energy) but the liberals shot that one in the ass. And now that won't allow drilling in Alaska. Even if they started today, it will be ten years before we see a drop of oil. Our entire society is based on fossil fuel use (INCLUDING ELECTRICITY). You can't just turn it off.

Your argument that alternative fuels have already been developed brings us full circle on the problem that we are discussing. Methanol and other bio fuels are organic in origin. They come from FOOD. My retired mother in Mexico still pays $2.00 a gallon for gas, and the food has not gone up there. There was a scarcity of corn last year but.....

Oil is in no short supply, the U.S. has enough in the ground in Alaska to run this country for another 200 years alone.

hemp is not marijuana... its a different species of cannabis... and it grows these seeds which you extract the oil and can use it to eat (you can actually live on hemp seed and it tastes good just buy it at your local health store or whole foods) or it can be used to make biofuel. plus it doesnt need fertilizer or pesticides and can grow virtually anywhere

I buy almost all of my food and other stuff at the liquidation stores and the Grocery Outlet. Food is MUCH cheaper there. I also get a lot of my stuff at the thrift stores. Otherwise I can't afford food and clothes. When I go to regular, retail stores, I just about keel over with sticker shock.
