  • I know her in real life =]

  • I love this composition ! She plaays awesomee !

  • perfect performance

but her face is very u**y

  • that is how you play! you breath in the music and let it flow from your soul she is perfect :)

  • Chung is a legend. A true artist with so much passion and such emotional depth. Her recordings of the concertos, such as Saint-Saens, Elgar, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky are definitive and cannot be surpassed.

  • How can she close her eyes, play perfectly and conduct geniously at the same time? Wonderful, an exemple to everyone!

  • Honestly to check the speed is the only one play of czardas and Maxim Vengerov is the best.

  • Look at her guys! She is an example for all women..... .Her eyes, her mimics, her moves and whole performance tells everything about her!Amazing lady

  • Marklar ;-) This version is nice, but can`t be compared to the famous interpretation by Elvis Presley

  • Tears in my eyes.

  • I could hardly find a word to decribe Kyung Whang Chung......than Genius!!

  • I love how emotionally there she is; it's breath taking.

  • violin hero: 100% EXPERT XD

  • Give it.. This music makes me feel inferior...Such talent.

  • She nailed it. I stopped breathing.

  • I`m soooo blown away, that i`ve got smoke coming out of my ears .

  • ela tb é um show.... vibra com a musica... podemos sentir cada acorde no corpo dela

  • Wow, I can understand the people's exitement in applauding after the 1st movement! Incredible playing by exceptional lady

  • it's dramatical and delicate. i can somethings emotional flow to me

  • holy shit...0_0.

  • Amazing! Absolutley Fantastic!!!!

  • Absolutley AMAZING!!!!!!! Love her passion!!!

  • in the first part she makes some little little mistakes. but really little. Und bitte fuckt mich net gleich an leute!

  • Man, nearly cried because watching her playing the violin so INSANELY. LOVE IT!!!!!!!! LOL

  • hysteric, horrible, no feeling, just speed and technic...

  • @violon78 She has so much feeling. That I don't understand what you don't hear. I am not affected by most violinists because I don't feel what they are trying to express. Instead of forcing out notes I enjoy it when it flows but it doesn't have to be smooth. For example Jacqueline du pre who I adore so, very much.

  • @StradAmatiViolin Hi there, nice to have a comment back for a discussion, with respect, thanks. If you here the begining and a lot of other parts, don't you admit that it's not in tune at all ? All the part at 6:30 is just tac tac tac tac tac tac tac tac... without feeling in my opinion, and so on... I try to put a link of one of my fav interpretation by Mari Samuelsen.

Please, let me know what you think... no comparison is possible for me ;)

  • Sorry I can't put a link here, if you're interested to here Mar Samuelson, please browse his name on YT, you will find her easily :)

  • @violon78

Close your eyes and speak again.

  • @lyriesch

Done ! But sorry I persist, it's really not in tune and too mechanic, it's just my feeling ;-) Please just search Mari Samuelsen on YT : here's is a real powerfull and insane interpretation ! wooow !

Nice to speak with you, see you...

  • I can't tell if I think the tempo is a little too fast for me or not. Amazing though!

  • Recording engineer is a moron. Peaking everywhere.

  • Reminds me of the flight of sandpipers... amazing!

  • I came across her music video for Summer one day and found myself drawn to violin playing. Thanks to twofinedays, with his large collection of performances on YT , I was sucked into the foreign world of violin music. Inspired to take it up, I learnt simply producing a decent tone can be difficult. I can now better appreciate her skills. All that drama and dynamicism comes from her, the artist, and the instrument cannot take all the credit.

  • She loves this music, sure there are a few squeaks, but I love to hear her play it too.

  • Not very harmonic, actually...

  • @violinlover262 Well, I don't think I could do better. Many people here can't do what she has accomplished. I myself love many of her performances and have been in the front rows to witness her talent. Your ears don't lie and I am sure you know what I mean if you love classical music. Many people who love to listen to classical music don't even know how to play one classical instrument but they can easily tell which performance is a good one. I am also sure that you are with me as well on that.

  • Music is a "Temporal Art" . Mistakes will always be there. It how you recover from it that counts.

Unlike paintings, you can hide the imperfections on another stroke of a brush and polish it later and VOILA! People will say its perfect!

  • she and van halen would be a nice couple

  • At 0:49 until 0:52, are we supposed to hear the line picking sound? I have never heard of it....... Any experts here ? I personally think she plays too fast and the sound of her violin does not come out as clear and clean. I can also hear some kind of line crossing type of sound which is really easy to detect. I love her so much when she was doing the duet with a guy who plays and oboe in Bach violin and oboe concerto a long while ago.

  • most beautiful interpretation ever

  • I didn't like it either.

She plays it too fast, the feeling is gone at this "crazy" speed.

  • @andrewzot was that an insult?

listen to perlman playing winter, or gil shaham. Those are very good. This is just a rushed "OH LOOK HOW FAST I CAN PLAY" thingy. (I don't call it "shit" because it's obviously not, but I really dislike this video)

  • Comment removed

  • @andrewzot just listen to your techno and stay shut kiddo, grownups wanna talk here

  • @iMarklar Another stupid comment from the lay man. Who are you to criticize Kyung's playing as a" OH LOOK HOW FASY I CAN PLAY thingy." Give me a break. If she wants to prove her speed she will rather be playing Tchaikovsky's violin concerto or Paganini's Caprice and trust me, she will still break a leg. With her skills and her status today, she doesn't need to prove anything to you. SHE"S PLAYING WINTER FAST SIMPLY BECAUSE THAT"S HOW SHE FEELS THE MUSIC. I LOVE HER INTERPRETATION.

  • Wow! What a beautiful rendition of Antonio Vivaldi's "Four Seasons!

  • I don't like it... she's to much fast.

  • hey.... to all you criticizers... -.- Kyung Wha used to be in the top ten in the world before she retired... more fanous than Sarah Chang... with all her brothers and sisters. go up to any middle aged person (like my mom)... she is REALLY famous because of her title as top 10 in the world and number 1 in korea.

  • @samp987 : yeah they went from piano to forte real quick, they were suppose to

  • the scratchy noises are supposed to sound like that

like ur freezing and chills in winter duh

  • i think its just fine, and great listening

  • She's really good... I didn't know her before this vid... impressive... what an interpretation...very personal... she likes to play fast and Vivaldi concerto supports such speed.... nice...

  • She has funny facial expressions

  • lol she made scratchy noises. AND PEOPLE DONT COMMENT LIKE " OH! SHES HUMAN GIVE HER A BREAK. PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES" I know so stfu...

  • Why she made so fast the first part of the solo ?

After 40 sec she started to make really good and with soft notes like desireble...

    i didnt understand :(

  • I like it very much : in the beginning there is un unbelivable mystery air and she is a so strong and so elegant musician..

  • I can't dispute your opinion because it's yours, but I can at least say you're certainly one of the minority if you should say Ms Chung plays not from her heart. Now with 40 years career behind, which can be matched by only few, she's been taken as one of most passionate, romantic, exciting and heart-felt soul on violin strings by many critics and other fellow musicians as well as public. Naturally there has been criticism on her style, but believe me. 'not heartfelt' is very rare comment on her

  • @twofinedays: humm right, actually u are right, i am only commenting based on one performance from her, maybe i should see others of her...maybe this one came up to the public eye as lost of passion or heart felt.

  • @BlueMoonLightDreams You're talking bullshit

  • yes i agree trhats why i take it back i was judging based on this one performance hehehe but she is amazing

  • @BlueMoonLightDreams u know. if she had a soil stradivarius then she would sound so much more better

  • Hmm, she started off her career already with a starad (Harrison), then she aquired Guarneri ex-Kublik in 1974, and yet another Guarneri (ex-Rode) in 1984. She's still know to have two Guarneris, but mostly used ex-Rode in recent years. I believe that's what she's playing in the video.

  • @MrAnimeFreak777: Actually that's a matter of the musician. Just because a musician has a Strad does not ensure that the music will come out better. And one last thing, Soil Strads aren't the greatest instruments in the world in comparison to del Gesus. But again it's more of the musician over the instrument.

  • I played the second movement at a wedding. :) Lovely.

  • Brilliant :D

Thats a funny expression on her face :D lol

really good nevertheless; something ill hope to be able to play sumtime

  • My Favorite violin player ;)

  • my favorite is WINTER :)

  • You can see her eyelids flutter a bit when the camera zooms in. The passion she must feel for music must be extreme :3

  • She's one of the best...always was, always will be. I wish I could study under her.

  • stupid comment from roman. korea is not a third world country. korea is one of the oecd countries and inside g20 stupid roman.

  • beautiful...fast and beautiful lol

  • I think this is the coolest part of the 4 seasons..

  • WOW O_o

    B-R-A-V-OOOOOO

  • there is no more proving at this modern age to do....no matter what race or color you have.... if you are an idot you will be one.....human limititions go beyond race.Just enjoy life....and great music such as this...although there are lot of very musical Asians around...it cant be denied.

  • i couldn't care less if the musicians are balck white asian mongolian or whatever race you want to call them. Why even watch a clip like this, it's the music that should make you see wonderful things!

  • As a group, the dynamics were wonderful.

  • soo goood......

  • Excellent.

  • she's a faculty at the Juilliard. some of you are criticizing her as if you are better than her but you are not lol.

funny keyboard warriors these days lol.

  • not meaning to be racist or anything, but you see all these asians in a circle playing the instruments all emotionally, then you see a random american sitting there plaing the violin and looking around lol

  • Thats true! I always thought the same thing but never said it! it seems that most musicians (for classical anyway) are asian... not being racist.

  • whats ironic about it?

  • did you read the comments i replied to?

  • i bet it was all asians who downthumbed this hahaha

  • you don't have to be asian to downthumb a bad comment...

not only do you misuse the term "irony", but you also make yet ANOTHER narrowminded, thumbdown-able, comment. Fail.

First of all, there are NUMEROUS examples in which one race established a practice but another race eventually dominated. For example, Americans originally invented basketball but now, the majority of star players are black.

    There's nothing "ironic" about that...

bottom line: you deserved a thumbs down.

  • yes because that means i dont give a crap anymore and my opinions may have changed.

Oh and nice try at insulting me back you dipshit haha.

  • "yes because that means i dont give a crap anymore and my opinions may have changed."

so, now that YOU don't give a crap, NO ONE can reply to you? so, now that YOU may have changed your opinions, NO ONE can reply to you?

who the fuck are you? my mother?

  • dude youre really retarded lol.

  • You better be carefull whit what you say.. you can have a meaning but this woman is a really good violin player!

  • That was great!

  • WOW. O.O!!!

im so impressed! so cool lol

  • One plays something beautifull, but all we can hear is these little rare things that went off.

  • this is awesome.

    :)

  • Malo,peor y PESIMOOO.!!!

  • Fuck you TheProphet354 ! shes still amazing and nothing she does changes the way she plays.

  • yeah. screw you. i bet you cant play as amazing as her. so what if you heard a FEW mistakes. not like you can ever play as fast and good.

  • Love the facial expressions! You go girl! lol

  • she plays funny

  • O_O

  • Bravo, bravíssimo...

How so? pls illustrate your points in detail.

  • Ha ha... you're free to have an oppinion of course... But can you give me an example of a violinist playing with no mistakes at all at a live performance - a scratch, wrong harmonics, etc.? What's the idea of music and art - is it a mechanical perfection? The proportion of Michaelangelo's David does not perfectly fit to that of actual human body - does that make it any less great?

  • In fact, it is slightly too fast compared to what Vivaldi wrote. She still plays it well though!!

  • You're right, I think she just rushed through some of the beginning measures of this piece. But sometimes the sheet music itself tells you to play slightly faster than usual, with cue words such as Presto, Allegro energico, Allegro ma non tanto, or other technical elements. I've seen some of these words in my own sheet music.

  • yes i agree. she plays too much fast, however she's really good

  • I feel that this version is too fast.

  • She is an amazing violinist, no doubt ... the question is why to play this music so "hysterically", overforced, rough ...

  • Think of the winter gust and severe cold weather... and compare the contrast with the 2nd mov how she warms it up. I think Ms Chung is being true to the idea of Winter.

  • well said

  • @twofinedays I'd have to agree. She really speaks with her violin. It's hard (even with an instrument as wonderful as a violin) to convey true passion and emotion. In that first movement I really felt the strength and power of the season she's trying to convey.

  • @cenolbaj vc q deve nao mgostar muito de musica classica!

essa musica e linda! As quatro estacoes sao uma das musicas mais tocadas por violinistas!

  • even if i don't like her playing at all, she is soooo sympathatic with those young musicians and the beautiful smiling faces in the end...really great to see!

And the audience is completely right with it's enthusiasm!

  • My favorite violinist !

  • Oh, it's such a relief to hear someone get the tempo right on the Largo! Yes, it should still be slow, but at some point the whole pizzicato sags and becomes a depressing muddle. This is just right!

  • no! kyung wha chung never used a garnerius del gesu! It's the stradivari. You can tell by the sound quality and wikipedia articles

  • Well, already in BBC documentary produced in 1977 titled 'East plays West', Ms Chung herself talks about her then new instrument guarneri 'Kubelik' -once was owned by Jan Kubelik-, that she got to like deeper sound of guarnery in time. Then in mid 80's, she aquired yet another guarneri.

  • Her facial expressions look as if she's constipated and trying really hard to let go, but amazing performance nonetheless!

  • she`s vivaldi `winter`:)))))

    I love this:)))))

  • she play at 100%:)))

  • ???

  • i love her facial expressions as well as her talent...

  • 1:03

  • Lol...

  • male cellist sucks

  • maestra

  • Audio Sounds not well supported. If audio caught the sounds of hall that would make this better.

  • i'm am deeply moved by this performance! I want more videos of her playing on youtube!!!

  • PERFECTION! My favorite part of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons." 10 stars!

  • greatly done

  • Wow i wish i could play as good as that!

  • basses are playing wrong chords!

  • Throughout the song, whatever it is, something seems out of tune. Gets really apparent at 1:12ish~ I have no clue how the song should sound like, but it seems like some D-ish note is out of tune there. Was bothering me so I stopped listening.

  • I really love her facial expressions. No joke.

But this is great and she is awesome. :D

  • the dynamics in this are friggen great !

  • something doesn't sound quite right..

they probably haven't tuned properly beforehand or some are playing slightly out of tune..

  • I just hope some people be more consciouse about something called 'manner'... Can't they know there is a politer way to express even for the same content? sigh...

  • look those are great pieces by vivaldi but you souldn't mind idiots because there's lots of them in the world today and if they are there then there must be some kind of need inoreder fo them to be there.like it is said in the matrix ''if a program is not needed anymoreit is deleated'' it is a bit like that in our world if you think about it, it has its ways to dispose of the uneaded people.

  • did u see tht face on 0.46 :D

    shes great

  • i do not like this version

  • Why u dont like it...and why u goth 2+ ??

  • Nice, except for the trills/turns in the beginning. Those were really strange sounding...

  • Awesome presentation! Very relaxing!

  • Beautiful playing! I Enjoyed very much!

  • she must be famous like really famous

  • she is.

she is very famous for her talent in violin

  • i love how they grow from quiet to loud

  • Search for "barocchisti" if you want to hear a good version...

  • to vlhere:

oh really? because im 14. I am not a prodigy or anything. If what you say is true then that will be great! Cuz I want to play this for my sister's wedding; she likes the Allegro non Molto.^_^

  • You guys think I can learn the whole Winter concerto in 3 years? Excluding the largo movement I got that down.

    How much time? Practice? Tips?

  • well you see quality is more important than quantity....and 3 years is wayyy to much to learn only the winter concerto....1-2 months is fine...

  • Its diferent for everybody maybe u learn it in 1 month maybe in 1 year

  • nice correct interpretation. Would make 5/5 if she slurred the note to enhance this piece. Also missing some critical trills.

  • Although this doesn't matter, I think the sound does not match up with the video 100 percent.

  • Yeah, you're right. Youtube has suckish syncing.

  • The 2nd mov. is SO BEAUTIFUL :)
