@bonn777 When I saw her sing "The Sun is Down" with Yoko, my first reaction was "My God, I've seen the second coming of Janis". The blues number just solidified that feeling. I thought I'd flashed back to the 60s all over again, because that's what the whole concert felt like to me...music the way we used to make it...a bare bones song structure and jam the hell out of it. In fact both those songs were just jammed, there was no rehearsal other than sound check

And this way before they released tickets for here in Columbus. And then last minute I decided I have to see her again!

The original version is very much gospel rock inflected, and is choreographed in Alvin Ailey modern dance technique because he drew heavily from African-American experience and movement; Laurieann Gibson (who studied under Ailey) felt it best suited the gospel flavor of the song and lyrics. And she's right. It is perfect.

@eggyweggys Lots of musicians make faces when they are very emotional about the song they're playing.  She's done it before, will probably do it again. It was an incredibly intense performance and I'm not sure she really planned to perform it ahead of time.

@stgregoryj Same here. Choked up and tears rolling down my face. I had the feeling that she decided to play it right then and there; this is usually where she sings Speechless. She seemed very emotional from the post-Just Dance part where she talked to the one fan who had a brain tumor, and then she saw the married couple with the 'Captivated' sign and sang a bit of that song for the first time ever at a MB. She also really jammed the endings of 'The Fame' and 'Money Honey'

I wasn't crying because of the lyrics, I was crying because of the sheer power of this performance. The same was true of the people I went with, and the people around us. We couldn't stop talking about it after the show ended. We all knew we'd seen something very special and very emotional from her that night.
