  • "sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system...sure and certain system..."

There. I just saved you the time of having to watch Prof. Brummett's pieces.

  • Wow, listening to the theist trying to pass off something such as low-carb advocates as being the same as religious fundamentalists. That's just so sad.

  • ya know whats funny, it used to be theists debating theists on which superstition was right. now its theists debating atheists. the theists all use the same defense to defend their "truths"lol. this is the hardest time for these guys to defend their faith. god of the gaps is bigger than ever. theyre getting backed up in a shrinking corner. it seems the "cause" of the universe is their strongest argument now. whos to say its a god? whos god? good luck theists, youre gonna need it!!! lmao

  • "that which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence"--the hitch

"absense of evidence is evidense of absense"--the hitch

  • It's painful to hear him talk so weakly, physically. Poor guy

  • @ 5:35 Hitchens begins his opening statement in a very Wellesian manner. The idea of introducing a great story and then moving away from actually talking about the "great story". At the same time, everything he talks about after this very moment has every bit to do with that "great story", but only those carefully listening would actually GET what he talking about, and leave those that weren't listening to keep guessing about what that "great story" will be.

  • God does exist. I worship him.

Jesus Christ does exist. I believe in him.

The Holy Spirit is real. The Holy Spirit is the purest of pure. He is the cleanest of all cleanliness. He is the comforter, and, yes, he is REAL!

  • @guitarttimman Sorry - you're wrong. Your god does not exist. You do not worship anything but your own delusions.

None of it exists. You are fantasising. You experience what you wish to experience. That's fine, if it helps you - but keep it to yourself and don't expect the rest of us to respect you for it. We don't. You appear backward and superstitious to us.

Peddling unsupported myth as truth is not the highest form of human expression.

  • Is anyone else annoyed by this host?

  • It's like you could feel the audience's heart melt at the end, beautiful man and life.

  • I like Brummet here, just given that this is a debate that will be one of Hitchens' last, you can tell that he really respects the guy--feeds his time over to him when he gets a chance, keeps it low-key and civil--it's nice to know Hitchens could still get his message out without it taxing him too much--despite the fact that I don't really like the idea of seeing a personal hero of mine being coddled, it's still feel a bit of a relief to see. This was painful to watch.

  • One of his best opponents,.................great debate, thanks for posting.

  • I am going to echo another comment I've seen by saying this is incredibly hard to watch. The loss of Hitchens is one I feel as deeply as I would a dear friend, and hearing his voice so hoarse and tired despite the fact that his fighting spirit is just as great as it's ever been and his warmth too as genuine and admirable as it's ever been, is incredibly saddening. What a beautiful mind, and human being.

  • @FlameOfOrion Beautiful words. You put it so succinctly, yet passionately.

  • @FlameOfOrion Completely agree! Never feels right seeing a hero look so weak

  • Glad to see "good" Christians rejoice in the death of a man who rose up and challenged their beliefs. And they wonder why people take their "loving" stance with a grain of salt

  • @geeklord1 "grain of salt", talk about understatements!!

  • @geeklord1 grain of salt?? the whole shaker!!

  • @geeklord1 just what jesus did (apparently) to the jewish hierarchy. hypocrites

  • Hitchens was a very spiteful and hateful neo-conservative. He said "cry me a river" when confronted by the possibility of the environmental aftermath of a nuclear war (made worse by the fact that this happened after he was diagnosed with cancer). He was also very condemning of mother Theresa's motives: after her death.

  • @osiris7nz Spiteful and hateful, or brutally honest? And you could say he had the courtesy to wait until after MT's death to question her motives. Also, being aligned to SOME neo-con stuff doesn't make you neo-con.

  • @jahbabylon "cry me a river" as a reply to the very real possiblity of a nuclear aftermath is being brutally honest about how spiteful and self centred Hitchens was. The world is a better place without him.

  • @osiris7nz Why is it made worse by having cancer? What's that got to do with anything? Grow a spine. You have a right to be insulted and offended on your deepest principles, that's what Hitchens spent his life doing. Don't be so sick-makingly feeble.

  • @osiris7nz if your talking about that interview with mos def then your an idiot, the last thing he wanted is for iran to have nuclear weapons...... do you know why?? cause if any country run by islamic extremests gets there hands on nuclear weapons then there may very well be a nuclear aftermath, probably in your back yard.

So when he said cry me a river he was reffering to the measures taken to prevent such a scenerio

  • This is so hard to watch. He looks just as my father did before he passed Oct. 2009 of cancer. Love and miss you both.

  • @ Yesyou Also, if you are hoplessly ignorant as your post lets us believe then you probably did not understand one bit of this debate in the first place so go play with your toys, the intellectuals have big boy stuff to discuss now.

  • RIP Chris unfortunately far too few minds think as yours did and are as open about it. Thank you for the new and genious ideas that you added to athiest thought. You will be sorely missed among the free thinkers of the world.

  • @ yesyou please stop referencing where athiests live it's completely irrelavent to anything mentioned thus far.

  • Bensum, how am I an apologist for religion? It's clear you didn't read what I said nor its context. I was addressing ideas about 'what about Stalin, huh atheists?' not offering apologies for religion. Get less angry, man.

  • We'll miss you Chris. I wish we had a hundred of uncompromising, loving philosophers like yourself.

  • YesYou,

Atheism is not a system of government, nor do any if the societies you're thinking if adhere to strictly rational, humanistic principles. Until you're willing to recognize that Hitchens's theory of government was 'representative humanism' to put it one way, you're simply quite ignorant on this topic. Hell, probably his biggest hero among the Founders wasn't an atheist, but rather a Deist.

So stop watching things to find out why they're wrong, watch them to learn what's being said.

  • I'm actually interested to know if Hitchens ever lost a debate (where they took a before and after vote). In all of the Youtube videos I've found he wins, even in the most religious of settings. Anyone who knows of one he "lost", I'd be grateful if you could post a link.

  • If the Christian church wishes to take credit for its contributions to our culture, it must also take credit for the parts of our culture which it has utterly destroyed: the pagan temples it burned to the ground, the statues and other "false idols" it demolished, the written and oral traditions it eradicated or hijacked... Thanks to these efforts we know almost nothing about several pagan cultures of Eastern Europe prior to their conversion, sometimes by force, to Christianity.

  • This man must be the dumbest person Hitchens ever debated.

  • @andyrooney12

Alright, I just finished listening to the question asked by the host right around 44:15 and it's obvious that Hitchens' opponent is not the only moron on stage. He was confused by Hitchens' statement? It was very clear...I highly doubt that any audience member misunderstood him on that or needed any clarification. What a waste...have Hitchens on stage but not ask him proper questions.

  • @andyrooney12 I see you haven't watched Hitchens' debate with Playthell Benjamin yet.

  • @Loals

LoL I have...it was definitely the most colorful debate I've watched.

  • I am saddened by Christopher Hitchens death even though I disagreed with him about almost everything. He was wrong and I am so glad that every wrong will be put right. I hiave great respect for his brother Peter who is a very good writer.

  • @jeepsterrr - How do you know he is wrong? You are just a mammal like the rest of us.

  • most boring rhetorician ever!

  • Ordering device. Yeah mind control! d(:

  • @OboYarn I was there, it was barely a debate. They basically agreed with each other the entire time. At the reception afterward Mr.Brummett told my friends and I that it was hard for him to say anything against what Hitch was saying, because he agreed with him on most of the points. That and the question the debate was based on was terrible. So I don't think either won really.

  • hitchens will always be an inspiration

  • Incredible man...thought provoking, inquisitive, articulate. I am deeply saddened to have heard of his passing. Regardless of whether one believes in religion or not, one is inspired to pursue more knowledge and to question............one can only admire this man.

  • i owe this man most of my courage in standing up against totalitarianism, especially when it is coming from religion. he inspired me to think independently and to be critical always. he is irreplaceable. may his ideas be immortalized and continue to inspire people.

  • BRILLIANT opening remarks...

Mr. Hitchens, you always referred back to Socrates, and you truly followed in his footsteps:

Fighting to make your voice heard, arguing for your points...

Right u[p to the end--Socrates has his one final dialogue on his deathbed, and you wrote your last article for Vanity Fair on yours, and fought the good fight, as we see here, to the end.

RIP Mr. Hitchens--You inspired me enough that I will never pray to your image and greedily demand more, you've given so much

  • r.i.p you saved many lives

  • RIP Christopher. Despite the fools who will say that this is your "retribution", you gave a ton to this world. More so than any pope could every do.

  • @TheHatCollection

Yes he will rest in peace, but he will face the judgment

  • @TheLordOfHost1 -- You people can't stop your nonsense - can you? You always have to threaten and try to unerve others, but you won't suceed! Go away into your liitle tiny corner and worry about yourself. We don't need idiots like you, because you see, we have a brain to do our own thinking, you poor sheep.

  • @577666

    666 just shut it!

  • @TheLordOfHost1 Actually he won't, because God doesn't exist.

  • @TheLordOfHost1 You complacent bastard. Don't lay your ridiculous imaginings on those around you. There will be no judgement, except in your futile wish-thinking.

I take some grim satisfaction in knowing that when your time comes, you will rot like any dead meat, unless they roast you. The disappointment for me is that you will never know how wrong you are - unless of course you open your mind before you get tipped into your grave.

  • @helperthrope very well put, excellent

  • @KongKit Thank you.

  • @helperthrope

Worms will cover us both and we will both stink the same!! I do not believe we came from nothing! Nor to i believe our solar system created itself! Where there is a design there must be a designer! You are the biggest youtube coward! Don't act all hard behind your laptop!

  • @TheLordOfHost1 You silly boy. Coward? Hard? Speak sensibly, or not at all.

There is no design, so there cannot be a designer. The design is in your imagination.

What you believe is irrelevant. What matters is what is proven to be correct. No-one has claimed that the solar system created itself - your comment illustrates your ignorance.

    Again - you complacent bastard.

  • @helperthrope

Show me evidence that there is no God!

  • @TheLordOfHost1 You expose your intellectual weakness. One does not attempt to prove negatives. It is a logical nonsense to try. Prove that there are no fairies. Prove that Russell's teapot does not exist.

YOU are the one who makes the claim that a god exists - the burden is upon YOU to prove what YOU say.

If your god exists, you should have no trouble in showing hard evidence - not just dogma, or your opinions, but tangible, testable, repeatable EVIDENCE.

    You cannot.

  • @helperthrope

Well, if you can't prove it, don't tell me there is no God!!! I don't believe the world created itself!

  • @TheHatCollection -- Well said - Hitchens gave not only all his knowledge but did it in such a remarkable way. I have never listened to anyone near his calibre.

  • Hitchens is great, just one factual mistake - Jan Hus (Czech protestant) was not burned alive in Prague, but in the German city of Konstanz in 1415.

  • is that a bottle of Vodka in front of him? jajajajajajajaja

  • @hevy99 he use to drink j. walker black

  • @rdickinsondickinson big surprise! lol i have nothing against drinking per say, but its quite obvious to me that at the bottom of every bottle and drunken binge is where he came up with all his hatred for the creator of the universe. How can a man that was given so much, be so ungrateful? Taking advantage of the innocent and misinformed for personal gain is purely satanic.

  • @hevy99 you can't hate something you don't believe exists

  • nice try! Aside from not owing you any explanation whatsoever, GOD isnt going anywhere regardless of ur worthless opinion. Take it up with HIM! Not only is HE the 1 ur struggling with (besides yourself) U'll NEVER find true peace without FAITH! Stay in conflict with yourself, and your CREATOR. No consequence 2me! I wouldnt trade places with u 4all the tea in China! LOL Its ur soul that weighs in the balance. Are u prepared to sacrifice it 4 absolutely nothing? JUST GETS DUMBER! +++

  • jajajajajajajajajajaja thats prety good! The fact of the matter is, we are all dead without Salvation. Personally speaking, i have no worries about this life or the next much less any fear. How about you? Thats the REAL meat and potatoes isnt it! :) +++

  • @hevy99 theists are brain dead

  • @rdickinsondickinson maybe so but atheist are dead all the way round! lol HEY GENIUS! hate to burst ur tiny little bubble but, IRON MAIDEN BELIEVES IN GOD!!!! LMFAO! +++

  • THIS GUY IS AN EXPERT ON RHETORIC ILL DEFINITIVELY GIVE HIM THAT! OH BROTHER! GLAD I BROUGHT MY FISHING WADERS! LMFAO! actually quite humorous! you can fast forward and save urself a lot of time because regardless of where u stop in any of these debates, its always the same pointless drivel again and again that all boils down to absolutely NOTHING! Making a career out of willing followers of nothing like sheep 2 slaughter is the amazing thing! Luciferianism at its best! +++

  • Spoiler alert. Hitch wins this one...... making him 1046 wins, 0 losses.

  • @ScientificExploits only goes to proves there are countless numbers of bone heads in the world, that buy into the concept that believing in absolutely NOTHING is somehow rational. What else is new? All stems from ignorance regardless of how you slice and dice it. The main theme is always "religion." I wish i had a nickle for every time these goof balls use the word. They NEVER mention FAITH. Maybe because they have no concept? YA "THINK?" wow! Rocket Science! jajajajajajaja +++

  • @hevy99 Believing in something you have no evidence for is irrational.

  • never said i didnt have evidence. Have an over abundance of it in my personal life. Its a shame you dont. Hmm, u think FEAR and DOUBT might have something to do with it? Both OPPOSITES of FAITH. naaa, ur a smart atheist! (wait! is that an oxymoron? like "atheist-chaplain"? lol ) evidently you have ALL the angles covered! ALL EXCEPT THE KEY THAT UNLOCKS THE DOOR TO ALL THE EVIDENCE YOU'LL EVER NEED! :) +++ like the detective that looks in all the wrong places and wonders why he finds no evidence.

  • @hevy99 Its a bit more like creating evidence out of thin air in your own head and calling it evidence. You would make a good mark for con man.

  • @pistolpackintim "con man?" like hitchens or satan maybe? u mean like that? jajajajajajajaja Not for a million dollars chief! :)

  • @hevy99 Most of the stuff Hitchens has to say simply resonates with things that I already came to conclusions to on my own. He added some knowledge to it and helped me better articulate my arguments. Religion is what motivated my atheism...not Christopher Hitchens.

  • @hevy99 actually faith is a RESULT of fear and doubt... you're afraid of being alone in this universe and having to actually face death.

  • @hevy99 Please show me the evidence if you have it, or be gone. Take your non-existent reality with you.

  • @ScientificExploits damn... the chirstians make krillins owned count look good.

  • Brummett sounds like Phillip Seymour Hoffman:P

  • MINNIE PEARL DIED for our sins..."Lay off my femoral artery," I told the femoral artery club board members who didn't know me from the late V.M. Rabolu, author of "Hercolubus or Red Planet"; who didn't care for my off-handed brand of femoral protectionism; who didn't enjoy the monkeyshines of comely women after contested hand amputation contests in Mecca during pick-my-pocket days.

  • Gay homosexuals are abundant along the Atlantic & Pacific coastlines. Flamboyant homosexual rituals have been embraced by Hollywood. One day San Francisco will be the most normal of places. Indeed, by mid-century, it will be THE city whereat normal people can let their hair down sans fear of gay-attack. Don't give up on men. Lesbians need to give normal sexuality another chance.

  • Brummett meets his Waterloo...

  • I'm not even 2 min in and why do I feel like the debate is already won

  • Christ' Hitchens approaches his hollow death w/a self-imposed/self-perpetuating ignorance that allows for the consumption of barbaric mendicants and the shooting of metabolically-destructive rays into his inflamed thoracic cavity. His naïveté is monumental. How asinine can one man be? But, he plays true to his script of bait & switch. He baits the public with his feigned religious hatred, and soothes the pseudo-intelligentsia on corporate T.V. w/his bosom pal's shenanigans in the men's room.

  • @TheWorldFarOff What the hell are you on about?

  • @TheWorldFarOff verbose and without merit.

  • 5:06

  • 37:50 Didn't he just prove the case for the unreliability and lack of worth in religious text much less dogma?

  • Fucking fat fuck calling me a fundamentalist because I don't stuff my face and am SHREDDED AS FUCK. Fuck you, you un-dedicated piece of shit.

  • @thewarriorsrok lol what the fuck is this?

  • @normalkuriboh Barry Brummett said something along the lines of people who take fitness seriously are fundamentalist, I'm not gonna watch the whole think again to see where though.

  • Barry Brummett was way out of his league here. It would have been much more interesting listening to Christopher Hitchens for an hour and a half. I would say "God bless the man", but it would only be a figure of speech and perhaps one he may not appreciate! LOL

  • Barry Brummett is a boob!

  • Fuck cancer and what it has done with Hitchens' wonderful voice.

  • @shockofgod what a measured and balanced view you have there.

  • @shockofgod you need to change your name to douche bag or troll. something more befitting an ass like you.

  • @lhurien no u

  • @lhurien What's the matter? You don't like seeing your "god", Hitchens, have his arguments exposed as childish? Even the most unbiased observer described Hitchens as being spanked and sent to bed without his supper in the Craig debate. A true embarrassment for this God-Hater. Hitchens "facts" come from biased sources. This is why when he writes a book he uses no endnotes or footnotes. Even he knows his sources are full of shit but he spreads them anyway.

  • @YesYou123333 Craig is a douche bag, his arguments aren't sound, but you can't see it because you're not smart enough. Craig " oh yes there is a santa, it says so in this book" . What a great argument. You don't understand logic and reason. You're just another deluded xtian asshole who believes the fairtales of bronze age wandering desert goat herders.

  • @YesYou12 New to Logic? No shame in that. We all had to start somewhere. Try to start with your label of Mr. Hitchens as “God-Hater”. To come anywhere close to being accurate that would have had to be “gods-hater” – had Mr. Hitchens not determined the evidence and reasoning for the existence of such entities, respectively, non existent and absurd. To him, thus, gods don't exist. And are, thus, by him not hated, nor feared, loved, etc. That's the god(s)botherer's bailiwick.

  • @fctchk Your point is moot. Hitchens has admitted on several occasions he wouldn't love God EVEN if it WERE proven true to his satisfaction. Therefore, yes, Hitchens IS a God-Hater. A position I'm sure he NOW regrets.

  • @YesYou123333 - Really? GOd is going to punish Hitch for denying his existence or not willing to submit? If God exists, sounds rather petty if you ask me. Doesn't God love him? God can't forgive?

    You are a douche.

  • @socalcraigster no worries Socal cuz we all know (as I replied to Yes) that IF we are wrong, unlikely as that may be, we all know Hitch will be reigning in Heaven once he disproves God to himself and takes over.

  • @YesYou123333 Indeed I bet he does, because if God exists, then Hitch has just had to hitchslap the old bastard and taken over to do the job right.

  • @YesYou123333 but since God with all likelihood doesn't exist and nor does Heaven, YOU won't have to fear the day of your passing and having to answer to Hitch.

  • @YesYou123333 one unrelated point, to be rendered 'moot' actually means "to be debatable" NOT "to be resolved, or undebatable, doubtful or purely academic" as people often use it. Look it up. Unfortunately, due to the fact people have used it incorrectly for so long it has come to mean both debatable and resolved simultaneously. Sad butchering of language.

  • @YesYou123333 He said on several occasions that it's not even a matter of if it exists or not, he constantly said that he is very happy that it does not have any factual proof to it because he did not want to live under a totalitarian 'Big Brother'. There's nothing wrong with that, who in the world would want to do that? Also, to hate something would be to suggest it exists. He hated religion and what it does to people.

  • @BringAShovel I have no problem with living under a "totalitarian" ruler if the ruler is perfect.

  • @YesYou123333 If you were under such a ruler that gave you your life and all. Would you really be able to distinguish such a ruler as anything but perfect? People praise dictators all the time and throughout history because they don't know any better. It's no different than in this situation. If you've been under the rule of your 'god' for all your life, obviously. Even since 'creation'. You wouldn't be able to distinguish anything else. So, even without -

  • @YesYou123333 Regarding how sickening I find that comment, which basically means as Hitchens put it that you can be convicted of thought crime, your point is entirely misguided and contradicting. Which brings up a similar problem. If you can be convicted of thought crime.. would you really ever be capable of thinking any differently of your ruler?

  • @BringAShovel No. So what?

  • @YesYou123333 How disgustingly quick you are to give up your freedoms. Sickening. Especially for a ruler who preaches to promote slavery and demote women's rights. Absolutely inhuman.

  • @TheTroubadoursMusic Yes, you atheists have such a good track record. A record of killing and starving to death millions upon millions of people. Never hear Hitchens speak about that. Hitchens would rather live in a society developed by Christian thought and bad-mouth it. What a hypocrite.

  • @YesYou123333 Hitchens does speak about that all the time you idiot.

I can't take you seriously. There are good theists but you aren't one of them. Giving up your freedoms and humanity so easily and so freely means I don't really want to have a discussion with you. You should be ashamed of yourself.

  • @TheTroubadoursMusic Show me one video where he speaks about atheism causing the deaths of millions of people. The only time he mentions it is when he TRIES to compare it to a relationship with God. If Hitchens is so fond of atheism, why didn't he live in a country run by atheism? We didn't see atheists migrating to Stalinist Russia? No, they would rather live in a society developed by Christians. Even, atheists know when they have a good thing. They're not THAT stupid.

  • @YesYou123333 You just lumped atheists together with stalinists? Wow. You're a fucking asshole. You think I'm going to waste my time educating you? Just fucking google it. I'm done here.

  • @YesYou123333 It's hard to migrate to a country that no longer exists politically. I should know, I just got back from vacation in Arabia. How do you explain the relative wealth, human rights, and educational superiority that heavily atheist countries like Sweden and Norway to heavily christian country like the USA?

  • @shockofgod You are as striking an example of the Dunning/Kruger effect as I have ever seen.

Google it, and look in the mirror.

  • shockofgod Hey Shock, I have been meaning to apologize to you. I'm sorry about the other night when that massive, smelly, load of soft poo covered your face. I really wasn't aiming to hit you. I heard that you got nailed while watching WLC's weak arguments being methodically dismantled by Christopher Hitchens. Cheer up mate as I'm sure Mr Craig will lick is sore anus in the attempt to have it heal again, give it time. Anyway, I do kinda feel sorry that you smell like a lump of sh...

  • @shockofgod Hey man, if you wanna have faith in crazy bullshit thats cool, thats AWESOME, in fact. But, don't try to base your stupid beliefs in facts

  • HL Mencken has a great line about this issue of tolerance of religion: We resepect a man's religion like we respect his belief that his children are smart and his wife beautiful.

  • It's quite sad listening to Hitchens speak, I can tell he's in pain.

  • I've noticed that every debate that Hitch has with educators like Brummet they have and use the same relative arguments...they respond with in a structured academic manner...they never serve a debate with color propositions like Hitch. Just some of my thoughts as I was watch...do you concurr?

  • If it wasn't for religion we wouldn't have the Ten Commandments, a movie I really enjoyed. I didn't rush out and convert, not because I was only 10 at the time, but because I could see religion was just a cool made up story. I could also separated the good stuff in the movie from the bullshit. Good movies don't need religion, and the same goes for: Painting, Music, Architecture, Sculpture, Sport, Literature, Poetry, any other art. Historically, most of the above has been suppressed by religion.

  • CHECK OUT HITCH AT THE TEXAS FREETHOUGHT CONVENTION !

  • @Mogley52 They didn't mean, cut the foreskins off! They meant: stroked the foreskins off... Wait that sounds gay. Couldn't be that. er.
