I grew up being taught that if you catch eye contact with someone on the street it is polite to do, which i have always done. It gives me a lovely feeling when they smile back.
A lovely story i have was where i used to live, i got the same train every morning, to get to which i had to walk down a hill. EVERY morning this same, absolutely tiny asian bloke would be cycling up the hill on this massive bike, which automatically made me smile and he would give me this massive grin back. Happiness <3
Whenever I'm walking down the street and I see someone and they look at me I smile and wave, just without thinking about it too. My friends always ask "Do you know half the people you wave at?" I say no, and then they think I'm on crack. But it doesn't have to be someone I know, it's just a way of telling a person "hi, hope you have a nice day." Smiling n waving is a universal sign of good nature. N who knows...maybe me smiling at a person saved them without me even knowing...
I love elderly people, if you do something genuinely kind to them they actually show their appreciation. Once an old lady was pulling out of a car park, I stopped and waved to her to let her pass, she gave me the biggest smile and mouthed thank you to me. It wierdly also made me really happy as well.
Wow. I love this update. Joji you are a beautiful person. I have been so lonely in my little town since giving up a huge addiction to alcohol and have been so angry at everyone for this
dis-ease.Playing the blame game and not smiling at anyone. I love your updates Joji, you truly are an inspiration. :)
No badass points? Now who told you that you didn't have badass points? I demand the name of the hooligan that is filling your head with lies. You, my good sir, are the EPITOME of Badass.
I am not trying to be weird but of course people stare! Your look is rather frightening to people. I am not trying to be mean or anything. It is inherent in peoples psyche to get frightened when they a person with black lips and eyebrows like that and green hair. I am sure you are a sweetheart but the majority of people are going to be frightened at first. If people tell you otherwise they are either young or into looking scary as well. I guess you get off on scaring people.
haha... I remember about twenty years when I was just a gothling, being told that gothy types are supposed to be serious and stern... hahaha..... Now here I am at 33 and have my first ''wrinkles''... hahah.. Smile lines. I wear em proudly. :D
if i saw you int he mall i wold walk up to yo compliment on everything, your hair your make up your clothes and say you are SO awsome and then i would say i owuld to be a good freind of yours :) and your voice fits you so very much :D
im curious to know if he smiled at anyone himself. cause if someone smiles at me then i'll smile back but i just dont smile unless someone is really looking at me
everytime i'm out shopping at the mall anystore i go into i alway's end up in a conversation wether long or short .I don't care if when i walk away someone goes wow she is weird or wow that was random or they think you know that made my day.
This is such an important message! I just read the incredible book 'Raising Our Vibrations For The New Age' by Sherri Cortland and it reinforced all that you mentioned in your video. Thank you for spreading your light (:
Great video and I agree. Remember, smile and the who world silmes with you, although it didn't happen for the guy on the bridge. Thats f*cked up, I always smile when someone smiles at me, its like a natural reaction and I thought it was the same for everyone. I find most people smile back if you say hi or good day and genuinly mean it but I guess some people are grouches and we all have our off days, maybe thats the problem more people are having a shit time. more reason to try ha, great vid
You have really great ideals. =) and are quite inspiring.
Oh, and in terms of the smile thing, I agree. I remember my gothiest/weirdest moments, when I was dressed up in goth loli, and I had young teens looking at me weirdly, but a sweet old lady told me just how pretty my outfit was! The smiling theory also works for bullies, so if someone tries to bully/upset me, I either compliment them, or just laugh @ them. They don't know how to react!
on my way to meet my friend, and a lady and a man were arguing and i just stared at the lady cuz she was just SO beautiful, so i told her she was beautiful with a smile on my face and she smiled and told me thank u and i was beautiful too. that made my day and i hoped it made her's too. told my friend this wen i met her and she said the lady must have thought i was special.my friend doesnt do things like this cuz shes too scared, she thinks of wat ppl might think of her, how silly :)
and i think i heard a story like that before so that really inspired me to try and remember to smile at everyone, cause you never know how much it can brighten their day, something as simple as smiling could even safe someone's life.
exactly!! i mean i guess there are some days wen i just feel emotionless n dont wanna interact with too many ppl, but i always try to crack a smile no matter how crappy i feel. i almost feel incapable of not smiling, i feel totally obligated (in a good way) to smile and be nice to ppl. and i feel like it doesnt matter how you're dressed, its insanely intimidating to me when someone doesnt smile. especially at work when hungry customers dont smile and im already super shy and scared to death lol
I smile to people when ever i go out, it really is simple and its alot better when you meet eye contact with someone its better then just looking at them and look away. I'll smile or say Hi and or how are you and they'll smile back.
i love complimenting people, there was a girl at the mall once who had half black and half white hair like cruella devil, and she walked by and im like "i really like your hair!" and she sneered at me!! i was so pissed! never stopped me from complimenting people, i told a guy he was really tall once with a big smile and hes like "thank you!!" :D
I like talking to random people and smiling or if they stare at me I'll wave or something [but if they're a perv I'll avoid ofc] I remember when I was a kid I'd always smile at people looking my way then one lady gave me a big frown back, I was so confused why she wasn't happy xD
I definitely compliment and smile at those I come across to. You never know how much that person needs that extra boost. Ive been there before so I know how you can be hanging on by a thread and just need a little hope.
That's a fabulous way to handle haters, and also the quickest way to make people realise how much of a prick THEY are, is by killing them with kindness. It also baffles them enough to make you GENUINELY smile. Even if they continue to act like a prick you still have the karma point from knowing you tried.
And you also know that this is just their personality and you didn't have a snowballs chance in changing their mind anyways.
Personally I find being happy to be the best revenge.
I agree with you, but it does backfire when guys think that your smile is an invite for them to badger you with come on's, etc... which at times is fine, but other times can be troublesome or even scary. But otherwise, smiling at people is a great habit to get into, and I also notice the old lady thing, if you smile at an old lady (no matter who you are) she will most likely get all adorable and hugesmile back at you.
I don't really smile much, but I do enjoy complimenting a stranger, call me selfish but it gives me a little rush, how nervous I get before I do it because I'm normally quiet and shy, the thoughts "they're gonna be creeped out!" always run through my mind, but then I say the compliment, and they smile and thank me, I told a chubby girl at the bus stop that she was really beautiful, and I meant it. She blushed and smiled so big, my heart was racing, she was so cute!
I don't brighten people's days. I'm polite, but I don't go the extra mile.... at least anymore. I just don't see why I should. I used to be a *lot* nicer person, but I always seemed to get shit on anyways so I decided not to necessarily be a douchebag.... but just recognize there's being civil and going the extra mile about it.
It makes you very much MORE of a badass to smile at others and be polite. These days it takes much more from the "everyday" human being to always have a positive and cheery outlook on his life and his day to day. It's easier to talk back, snap at someone, or respond sarcastically than to look into your heart and find something nice to say. The fact that you're able to be the nicer man much easier than you can tap into your negative side makes you extremely badass for knowing who you are :)
It's so true. You have the best colloquial words of wisdom, truly you do ... although when I smile at people in Boston they look at me like I'm a crazy person. Oh well. You use less muscles smiling than frowning, there's my good logic. <3
smileing is fun to do i was at the beach today in summery goth and every time i got a look and i live near jersey so i got ALOT i smiled and almost everyone waved or smiled

I smile or nod to nearly everyone I meet on the street (as it were).
Learned that "habit" by growing up in Missouri. Moving out to Silicon Valley has been a bit of a bitch-slap of reality, I must say.
But I can't stop smiling. (I like to give compliments too...it's such a simple thing, really)
