OMG after I've heard this one, and the Bombay Boogie, nothing else could not listen or download ! Nothing could compare to that music you created here, Ashwin. I was so happy for entire day, just because of your music. !! God bless you
I know I'm a geek but have you ever thought of doing a set with steel drums as one of the instruments? This piece has a sort of Carribean influence to it and the steel drums might add something, not that the song needs it but it would be a thought. Great vibe you're putting out, totally dig your music.
I was brought up on Punk, heavy rock and a lot of 80's, but I've always loved Indian music. The instruments be it string or percussion have sounded great to me. Not so keen on vocals though. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to your good music.
My deepest thanks to all of you that have commented and rated my video. i am forever grateful. When I uploaded it on Youtube I had no idea that it would be so well received and have as many hits as it does today! Please check out my Ragmala TV and Radio stations to listen to non-stop music of Batish Family and friends. I am programming the pieces from over 40 years of archived content including concerts, radio shows and live performances. Cheers, Ashwin Batish
Fantastic.... The last time I heard Ashwin's performance was in the USA. I never thought I would have another oppotunity to listen to his music again...
i've been playing guitar for 4 years and i am really starting to get into exotic weird scales, and lately i started listening to sitar. could someone tell me if its much harder to learn than conventional guitar and how much a beginning one would cost?
that is not true, acoustic and electric sitars sound vastly different. on an electric you do not get the same reverberations that give the sitar its unique sound. Also it is very difficult to learn but with a backround in guitar you may find it a little easier. student sitars start at around 400-600 dollars.
Can anybody recommend which to learn first? I am really interested in learning to play sitar or sarod, but I don't know which. Could anybody with a musical background recommend which I should learn first?
The drums sound like a type I don't remember the name but they have a large surface area and you hit them with your hand then slide your palm to create the effect you're hearing

That was pretty dang amazing, I could listen to that all day! If your stuff is on amazing/iTunes i believe you just made a sale :D Excellent stuff my man, VERY well done.. and not only that, you appeared to enjoy doing it! Which always says something about a great musician.
wow, Ashwin ji your playing is amazing, only once in a lifetime do you hear a sitar player with such clarity. You really make a statement in indian classical music with perfectly clean meends and just great playing alltogether.

I'm indian.. and i've been waiting for something like this. beautiful, simply beautiful. nothing tugs your heartstrings like the music of the tabla and the sitar. make a funky tune like this? the gods must be partying! amazing..
I have studied classical music of North India with my father Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish. I turned to the sitar when I was around 12. The drums are called "Tabla" the bass drum which I slide my hand across to modulate is called "Dagga." Thanks for your comments.
Whether brand name or unbranded, most sitars need to be setup. The best way to get one is to try before you buy. Don't just go by the price. If a good player is available have them test it out for you. Treat them to a nice dinner for the favor :) Visit my magazine Raganet Dot Com for some tips. Good luck. AB
Amazing, simply amazing. Just goes to show that the electric guitar aren't the only strings you can rawk to. Also goes to show that not every sitar needs to be used to play ragas! Not that I have anything at all against Ravi Shankar... ^_^
It's one I brought in Bombay around 1964. Style is from Miraj. The gourds are larger than normal. It has a very bright and loud tone. I have been playing it for almost 40 years to date. All the best, AB
