I had to skip the intro ... Here you can clearly see that Steve does not even begin to match Ritchie. Steve is good, but for this song, you really need a Ritchie Blackmore.
Only listen to Anya played by Ritchie and compare the differences. Steve's playing is technically perfect, but no one can be expressive as Ritchie, no one.
Steve is good. He is simply "not Ritchie". Steve is a totally different guitar player, is far technically better and knows a lot ot musical styles, he was a good choice to bring fresh air to DP. But Ritchie was "the Man", his style made DP really DP. His visionary approach to the music is simply unique.
The performance is really nice, and it is easy to assume that Steve is a great technical guitarist (better than Ritchie, i guess), but personally I prefer his work with Dixie dregs and SMB.
This performance just lacks Blackmore's power and epic feeling, I guess :)
omg, is awesome ,did not know this song until it has been a well known and has passed me this link, did not know I had a song with my name ;) today I feel a little more important l :O

I apologize if you don't understand why there is "comment with approval", This Setting has been placed for a peaceful atmosphere, Due to the use of prophanity against others which is unacceptable, that is why Its "Comment with Approval".
First time I listen to this song, Its Fucking awesome!!, I have to get this album and every other album featuring Steve, he's truly the great heir of Richie, he has already become one of the greatest membersof all time from this legendary band
Steve saved Deep Purple, this video is the proof of that. I mean, I loved the reunion years w. Ritchie, the shortlived stint with JLT, as well as Satriani stepping in for Ritchie for the late 1993 and 1994 summer tours, but as soon as Steve joined, the band were "healthy" again. They did their most experimental album 'Purpendicular', which is just as strong as 'Perfect Strangers' in my opinion. 'Bananas' and 'Rapture...' proves the band still got it, and can pull it off with Steve on the guitar.
Well put! When Satriani let down their offer to join full time, there was only one man on the list to call up...Steve. Not sure if I remember who exactly said it, but it's on the ''Around The World Live' dvd box. Disc 4...'All areas' documentary.
On the 1995 tour, they performed a few songs from the upcoming 'Purpendicular' album. 'Purpendicular Waltz' and 'Ted The Mecanic' was often played in 1995. They also did 'Soon Forgotten' a couple of times. A song that didn't even make it to the setlist for the actual 'Purpendicular Tour' of 1996/97.
Brilliant performance! This was the only song that Ritchie put his heart into on the 1993 tour before he left. He played the other classics etc. just to play them, while he actually put a lot of effort into this song. Satriani did a brilliant job on it in '94 as well, and Morse totally nails it perfectly here (1995). Beautiful song, I wish they would have done this on the current 40th anniversary tour.
when i went to watch deep purple last year, it was like having the studio tracks from machine head played to me.
and i no that the new stuff they make is away from ritchie's style, i just don't c why if steve morse is such a better player, they don't do more of his stuff than ritchies. went i went the only song that wasnt written by ritchie was rapure of the deep.
well the thing is, as your a fan of ritchie, steve is too. i went to a deep purple concert in boston july 31 07 and it was half and half, some have was some of ritchies work and there other half was the work with steve.
im a musician and i have people at where i play tell me very good comments about my playing since i have started learning styles and techniques from steve morse,
On the currenct leg of the 'Rapture...'/40th anniversary tour, they play less new songs than about a year or so ago. When I saw them some months ago, they did only 2 songs off 'Rapture...', 2 off 'Purpendicular', and 1 off 'Bananas' and that was it, the rest were classics. I was surprised that they had added 'Wring That Neck' off 'The Book Of Taliesyn'. Amazing guitarwork from Steve in that one, sadly it was only a 3 minute version or so, but still amazing. MK.1 songs are always appretiated IMO
@cheatle They play more old songs than new just because of fans (not me) who asking always for "classical songs". I listen very often to new albums and i like them as much as olds. What i try to do actually is to reconstitute each studio album with live versions and from each song i chose version with Ritchie or Steve, it depends, but i still miss some songs to complete that work. In my heart i prefere Steve just because Thanks to him Deep Purple is still alive......
steve morse guitar ability are much greater then ritchies, ritchie influenced to many and still does but he was know for his awesome riffs that amazed us, but not for his soling, i prefer ritchie rainbow since i personally think he was the at his best there, but hey there wouldn't be this without ritchie so i do give him alot of credit.
ritchie isnt known for his solos? Highway Star, Lazy, Burn, You Fool No One, Place In The Line. And are just to name a few. the Anya from Stugart in 1993 has a miles better solo then this one. Steve Morse will never have greater guitar ability than Blackmore, if he did they wouldnt keep playing Blackmore's Music and do the stuff from 1994 forward.
ritchie was known for his most recognizable riffs in rock not solo's, and actually steve ability on guitar is much greater, and you would actually tell if you actually tried to play steve morse band tracks.
and this is in india where steve's style he plays here fits perfectly.
i don't see where you are getting the idea from that ritchie isnt known for his solo's. he is known for both his solo's and riffs. ritchie is the better guitar player out of the two.
ritchie was made most famous by his riffs, enough... people need to stop with the ritchie thing already, steve morse is pretty most the most versatile guitarist in the world today, there's a difference to someone who started this type of music but steve morse was also a creator and if you ask a professional teacher if he had to choose it would be steve morse, as my teacher does and others at berkeley school of music do, you people just don't knwo who steve even is, look it up!
ritchie is known for his riffs, and solos. enough. and i know many professional teachers who would say ritchie over morse any day. and if i don't know who steve is, you obviously don't know who ritchie is.
Indeed! Ritchie put a lot of effort and was in a good mood for the 1984/85 'Perfect Strangers' tour. After that he kind of got bored of it all, his friendship with Gillan cracked..AGAIN. He stopped putting any effort into his playing on stage in 1987/88 and onwards until he handled in his towel in late 1993. To be honest, Ritchie played a lot of rubbish post-1985 on stage. He was also a difficult person to deal with both on and off-stage....unfortunatly. Steve saved the band....that is true.
Ritchie was my old time favorate. Then I heard Steve who became my all time favorate. I admire both. There are three versions of Anya- Ritchie, Joe, and Steve. I can watch this DVD everyday. I don't know what you guys think but for me I always think Steve teach Ritchie a lesson on how to play his song well. This version is unbeatable, man. Not even Yngwee or Michael Angelo.

Im kinda getting use to the lineups of DP now, MK1234 :D
It was a bit complicated when I first learnt that they had lineups.
Only a few songs were my all time favorites before I visited YT, so glad I did.
I have bigger collection of DP now. Long live Deep Purple! xD
Can anyone please tell me if any other bands have lineups and kept replacing musicians?
