I wasn't panicked but not sure how well I would pass all that in the video. I'm just a recreational diver. I think the worst realistic situation is a free-flowing 2nd stage after colliding with another diver or hitting a reef or something, or it just feeling like malfunctioning, but you can just pick up your alternate reg, but you'd be out of air quick with the other reg free flowing.
My worst experience was my reg knocked out and my mask partially displaced and filled with water by another diver's fin. It wasn't wrapped around the valves or tied in knots like this.
Awesome vid. I attended dive school at Pearl Harbor back in July 1990. I was with A Co 3rd Recon Bn. We were the first all Marine class and believe me the instructors were extra hard on us. Every PT evolution they would run our dicks in the dirt. I gained a lot of respect for them during this journey, but let me tell you....prior to attending the school, you had to pass pre-scuba, that my unit put on and it was 20 times harder than the actual school itself. Semper Fi to all who served!
Sometimes they would cover our masks with black tape so you could not see them coming or what they were doing next. It was pretty horrific.
By the way "The older I get the better I was" These new Navy Divers are a lot smarter than the Old Divers. Diving the Copper Collar Helmet was a hoot. Maybe a lot heavier than the new stuff but fun also. I mean they let women do it how hard could it be? I am sorry I just feel Navy Divers are no place for a weaker person, just like Firefighters.
In the old days you swam in pairs. 2 instructors would attck you at the same time, tear your mask off ( or worse flood it and put it back on your face) pull all your tank straps, wind all your hoses around the tank valves, even pull off your fins and shorts. All the while they were trying to tear you from your buddy to separate you. They did leave one the swim teams tank valve open. You had to recover by sharing the air while holding on for dear life as the instructors tried to pull you apart.
i would be pissed, i know its part of training, but more than panicking i would feel anger and just punch him in the face. I know that cant be done, but still.
This is awesome. So the instructors in the yellow shirts grab a student, fuck up all of their gear, and then the student has to recover without panicking? Awesome. Is Michael in this? Can you give us a time-elapsed point in the video where we can see him?
