The biggest flaw of the white race is our undersized lizard brain, and it will likely be the death of us. We can build machines that take us to the moon, but without this basic self preservation instinct we will die.
The reason phones aren't allowed on planes now they've determined they don't interfere with communications is because the airlines don't want twats like you yapping away the whole flight.
More people are killed by toasters than sharks. In fact according to British statistics you're more likely to be killed by your trousers than a shark.
it is evident that most people who have commented here are either monkey brained, shark brained , deer brained or reptile brained.that is why it has provoked them to respond with denial.it is like neo telling people in the matrix that it is illusory, and the people on the other hand assuming that neo has gone insane.most of you live in the matrix and get provoked when someone tells you that.sorry
I like his blog - but this one was wrong on pretty much every point he made. I really dislike this absolute abuse of evolutionary claims about our behavior.
Good video, except for the amydala (lizard brain) isn't responsible for reproduction like he mentions. It's specifically used for survival emotionals like fear and anger, but has nothing to do with reproduction. He mistook the entire limbic system for just a small part of it.
@dumbnetworks Yup. I was just going to comment on that. I loved Fora TV when it first came out, but I'm not likely to pay a fee to watch videos, no matter how fascinating they clam to be. Not to mention I just sat through a COMMERCIAL on that site!
Why are people afraid of "terrists"? More people in the US are killed in auto accidents every month than have been killed by terrorists ever. Lizard brains or arms manufacturers?
Everyday I drive somewhere (and I have hit 3 deer over my life) so I HAVE to find a way to be comfortable with flying down concrete at 10x the limit of my evolved body. OTOH, most people spend very little time in the ocean, so adapting to that 'shark concern' is not demanded of us daily, plus we can avoid it & still live a normal life.
I should be pissing myself constantly while driving but my demands for a 'normal life' demand I adapt to accept that risk as 'normal'
I think the whole deer vs shark thing is dumb. Sharks don't accidentally collide with your car and deer don't mistake you for food when you come into their habitat.
@FilthyVirus I didn't miss the point I was just poking fun at his bad examples. Hes good at marketing his point, but hes not a neuroscientist and it shows. Around 2:25 he starts going off the deep end with claims as to what your lizard brain (i.e. Amygdala) plays a role in. A lot of the risk evaluation and planning that hes referring to when deciding on what business plan or w/e is done by the executive system. Hes really using an appeal to a negative view of the "lizard brain" to make a point.
@AtheistKharm heh, no it still makes sense... he's just saying we are not that scared to drive in a car for fear of dying from a deer, but we do have people that would prefer to not swim in the ocean from fear of sharks..
@ToraJutsu01 I know I was just poking fun at his bad example of that. Hes appealing to peoples pirmal fear of sharks then using statisics to show we should be more afraid of deer, which doesn't make any sense. Its not the deer we should be afraid of its the assumed risk of driving and this had nothing to do with primal fear of predators.
@ToraJutsu01 A better argument for statistics would look something like this: "A person living one mile from a retailer selling Mega Million Lottery tickets is 3.6 times as likely to die in an accident traveling to and from that store (2 miles) than winning the Mega Millions jackpot on a $1 play. Jackpot wining odds = 1 in 176 million; death odds = 2 miles * 1.03 deaths/100 million miles); 1 jackpot = 2 * 1.03 * 176 million / 100 million = 3.63 deaths." - megamillion's website
@ToraJutsu01 I think he would of been better off saying people that drive on the roads and have a fear of swimming in the ocean due to sharks have a irrational fear. That would make sense because fear of swimming in the ocean due to sharks and just having some phobia of sharks in general are two different things.
@uch And everyone knows this and we are afraid of each other in one way or another. And then we act out in subtle ways. How many people are afraid to give a speech? Why? No one gets dragged off the stage if they don't like the speech. It is ingrained in us not to trust. Women are very catty to each other. Why? They are competing with each other for men. It is ingrained in our survival system.
@freesk8 I don't as their site was a haven for good free information, now they are probably going to siphon off the quality and stick a premium badge on it.
21 seconds into this and this guy is an idiot, people are afraid of sharks because in the ocean against a shark a human is defenseless you are prey... In the forest a deer poses no threat to a healthy human.
@theeastwatch You're the idiot. How common are actually dangerous sharks? How common is an actually dangerous shark attacking or, moreover, attacking to kill?
That said, I'm actually rather scared of deer in the wild. I like this guy, thumbs up Fora.
@Sardonac actually pretty much all sharks are potentially dangerous. It's not as common because we are actually land animals so we don't swim so often ... also it doesn't need to attack to kill, it's good enough if he just bites your arm off and then runs, believe me. The deer killing people are most probably ones that run in front of your car so fear from deer is not the correct reaction for survival, neither from lizard nor from other parts of the brain. Just like you are not afraid of cars.
Not all sharks, many sharks are much smaller than a human, some dont even have teeth. Same for snakes, yet there is still fear there.
And if you are about to run over a deer, fear -is- the correct reaction.
Nevertheless the most dangerous animals in the west are bees (from allergies) and dogs (because we have so much contact with them). THE most dangerous animal in the rest of the world is the mosquito, but we dont get movies about killer mosquitos.
@theeastwatch its also just the physical characteristics... we're meant to be afraid of sharks. I think the reason there are less deaths, is probably because sharks look scary so we avoid it, where as we dare to confront a dear... =/
@soccom8341576 um some of the animals you love would not exist without evolution....... and no of course they didn't all die. I'm just saying, based on the physical characteristics alone - deers don't look as confronting. Nature uses visual cues all the time to warn other animals that they're dangerous - take the really brightly coloured frogs for example, they warn other animals that they're poisonous so other animals avoid eating them. =) i was using the same idea w/ us and sharks.. =)
The biggest flaw of the white race is our undersized lizard brain, and it will likely be the death of us. We can build machines that take us to the moon, but without this basic self preservation instinct we will die.
