it sounds like funeral music. i like it. i used to live next to a funeral parlor at coventry gardens, near detroit, michigan. my dad referred to the funeral parlor as a "hotel for the deceased". you say that your ancestors were in england. well, my family left england in 1600s and 1700s. i asked my mum why the family left. she said, "i don't know. maybe they got tired of the english accent."
if you click on my name and look in my favorites, i have some awesome songs from the catholic church in westminster..their choir is awesome, i especially love the chanted psalms.
about 1.5 years ago, i had my first experience playing a keyboard instrument. i was walking through kmarts when i saw a relatively cheap keyboard. i bought it, and started teaching myself to play. i already knew about sheet music because i had played clarinet earlier. on my youtube website, i have tunes i played on keyboard. those with the name "jone coventry" in the title are those i made. most are my variations of tunes that already existed.
I could hug you to death. This was my favorite to sing when I was little... My mom would get angry at me because I sang it so much. Heh heh, the memories... thank you for hosting this, and the lyrics too. :) You've made my day.
you're welcome...the pianist at our church and i love this carol, so we try to have it sung in church at Christmas, the last two yrs right b4 we sang it, the pastor called out "let's just sing the 1st and 4th vs"(which of course leaves out the middle part of the song ""see Him lying a cradle beneath Him" etc.) well this last yr it happened again and the pianist stopped the song and yelled out NO! YOU CAN'T DO THAT! WE HAVE TO SING ALL OF THEM!. i had to laugh.
love organ music. Especially pipe organs. What kind did your church install. If you are from England I was in London a year ago. They have beautiful churches in Europe.
organ music is the best. our church installed a Rogers 870. not a pipe organ but it sounds like one and it's set up like one. i don't live in england but my family is from there. i would love to visit or even move there someday. my grandma who just passed was the last one of us with the strong brittish accent, i miss hearing it :) thx for your comment
I really like the changes at each new verse/chorus. :) Good job, its a beautifully haunting song.
