plz reply so i am going to get a baby or adult Veiled chameleon if i get a baby it will be 3 to 4 month old but will they die easy and will they bond with you more than a already adult thanks
I also have a rescued veiled chameleon with mbd and she was unable to climb branches so she became very weak and broke a few bones falling before i had her. I ended up making ladders out of branches of various sizes and textures close enough together so she wouldnt catch a foot in a hole, her strength increased within just a few months you should try puttin even just one in smeagles cage it would be interesting to see if it worked!
With your dividers do the cages still get enough air flow through the sides covered? It almost seems as if the covers defeat the purpose of a screened cage.
Ok I need your opinion here, I was looking to buy a veiled chameleon as a first pet, which means I'm inexperienced, but I have done my research and I'm prepared to give it full attention, but owners have been telling me not to get it because I have no experience, and that it is a bad idea, and I'm reconsidering buying one, but I think they are amazing creatures, and for me to see one every day when I get home would be a dream come true. So should I wait until I have experience, or buy one?
@Tandereeno If you have done tons of research and are dedicated to keeping a chameleon, then get one. Only you know yourself and if you would make a good owner. I have seen people with out experience become great owners because they did tons of research and were dedicated.
i think the chameleon wasnt scared at the camera it was scared at the other chameleon threatening it as you can see at the end of the video in the background :O
Make sure the enclosure is kept indoors and away from windows, doors and any area that will have drafts of air. I would make sure you use a heat lamp with a UVB bulb (Reptisun 5.0).
This video was highly informational! Thank you for posting such a informative one. I just recently purchased my first veiled chameleon and finding it difficult to find information that is believable on the web. Everyone says something different. Seeing that you know what you are doing has helped answer some of my questions. :)
As a avid Chameleon owner and someone who appreciates Reptiles in general, i think its wonderful what you have done for them. Most people whom purchase these beautiful creatures often do not know how to care for them ...properly, often they are mislead by pet stores and its a shame. Never the less, i think your videos is wonderful, and the time and care you have given them is awesome. Please keep up the good work, and i look forward to more of your posts.
@TheReptileWhisperer how do you know when they want to be held, do they just let u pic them up without fuss? And if there babies and aren't use to you wont they not want to be held any way....Im asking these questions cause i wanna get a baby Veiled Chameleon
@TheReptileWhisperer, you may already have answered this for someone else, but what are the dimensions of your largest cages here? I have a baby veiled chameleon, and I'm getting ready to upgrade her home to a full sized one. Also, did you build your cages, or do you know of a good, reputable place I can order one? Thanks!
@romwidoly I think its 36 in tall x 18 deep x 18 wide. You can sometimes find used cages on craigslist cheap. Lllreptile has decent cage prices for a new one. Caution if buying used. Take the cage outside & generously spray with bleach cleaner, let sit for 10-15 mins, then spray with a water hose several times to make sure you rinse all the bleach off. Sit outside in the sun until dry. You never know if the reptile housed in the cage previously had illness/disease so cleaning is a must.
I'm not sure if you're the "chameleon expert" but is not drinking standing water typical of all chameleons? I'm looking into getting one and in case I find myself busy or out longer than expected I wouldn't want to worry about my chameleon needing water.
@ShellSchokked@ShellSchokked No it is very rare that they drink standing water. They are triggered by movement. If they see water dripping & water droplets on leaves they drink. If they see bugs move they eat. Same thing:)
Im getting A veiled Chameleon very soon. Could i just Fill a Milk Jug and just poke some holes ion it for almost 24/7 water? I would buy a waterfall, but honestly trying to save some money
Every veiled chameleon owner says "most veiled chameleons don't like to be held, but mine do".....so shouldn't that just be changed to "they do like to be held".
my chameleon drinks from the sink... wt i mean is like ill take him to my sink every 2 to 3 days and he sometimes drinks n sometimes he doesnt.. but is it better to get a dripper or is this fine... and where do u get ur horn worms and butter worms from.
Ok Im not sure if my set up is right yet but my lighting in day is a UVA n UVB long bulb a UVB bulb a daylight bulb n a house bulb nd st night I have a purple heating bulb I have fake plants hanging nd an umbrella plant and ficus plant and purple passion n pothos also and about 5 branches with to big drippers is that good or do I need more i'm buying vines soon n more plants!!
Poor babies, there old owners were terrible to them, I hope Shmeagle gets better and I want Wolverine x3 He looks so bad ass and cool, Mystique is pretty and cute
I have a male veiled chameleon (a year old now) and hes in a 2x2x4' aluminium screen cage, the ambient room temperature is about 19 degrees celsius. I am using an 100 watt bulb at the top of the cage with a UVB obviously and the basking spot temperature is only reaching 33 degrees celsius when he isnt in the way of it.
but i don't know what kind of wattage bulb i should use to increase the ambient temperature and basking spot people keep saying not to use a 150 watt? should i?
Hey.. I havve a veiled.. and I just need to know.. he's about a month of age, but the guy we got him from said he didn't need the purple UV light until he was older.. I feel like he's wrong, but I wanna be sure.. also, what's the best base for them to have? and a good way to clean their cage?
or any of the water being drank-en. I put some ice on top of the screen so it drips down the branches on the leafs but so far he just sits on top corner. and im not quite sure i have done some research but i need some real help on what im suppose to be doing
@TheLoonatikk Get a screen cage like I have and set it up the way I do. 75 watts is too hot. Get a normal 60 watt bulb that you use in your house. He is hiding because he is scared. Make sure you have places he can hide. He stays in the corner because he is scared and something is not right with the cage. Do you have a video of your cage and the chameleon? I might be able to help you better if I saw it.
So I haven't seen any of the crickets going away. And I'm kind of worried but he seems fine to me. he walks properly. he climbs smoothly. i have 75wat basking spot lamp. i have some sticks and branches in there with some fake leafs. he doesn't seem to like the light so much. always going into corners. i also got a few earth worms in there as well. but i haven't seen any of them going away of seen him eat any..
Hey I just bought a veiled chameleon and I'm not quite sure if everything is perfect. I got a class tank with screen top and side stripe screen on the bottom and is has doors on the front as well. It’s not quite as big as your but its quite big. He’s one years old and he doesn't seem to be eating his crickets I put them in the tank as well I also marinated with calcium and D3.
how do you get the eggs out of the tunnels safely ounce the female lays them? how old do they have to be to lay the eggs? do you leave the chameleons in the box with no food or water and then feed and water them, or put it in the box with her? do the lights need to be turned of at night, or do they need to be turned on? does the temperature need to change at night, or does it need to be consistant?
sorry about so many questions, i don't my chameleon to die when i get it :(
how would i heat the cage up at night? it can get to 68 at night, should i put a ceramic heat emitter? do female chameleons ALWAYS lay inferite eggs also?
What website would you recommend to buy baby veiled chameleons for a reasonable price (under $50 if possible?). Also, are there any starter kits including the tank that you would recommend?
It's so sad when pet owners are oblivious to what they need to do (or when they just don't care). One of my biggest pet peeves is when people purchase an animal (especially reptiles) when they have NO idea how to care for them properly. I'm glad there are people like you in the world...thank you for what you do :)
your female is like freaking out in the background when you have wolverine out. haha. when you go to get your males out, how do u approach them. i have probably a 4-6 month old male veiled chameleon, and he hisses already and stuff when i get him out, but once he is out, he's fine
@Blayzer543 Some females start early but usually lay at a year of age. You can try a smaller bin but mine refused. I know of several people who also had issues with smaller bins. If they won't lay eggs they will die so it's better to be safe than sorry.
Last question for now, I had thought of using either the zoomed or exoterra waterfall for watering, is that ok? The other option i thought about would be the Habba Mist from zoomed or a dripper just like the one you show in one of your videos, I would really like to see exactly how you setup your dripper.
@tzanotto I would not use a water fall unless you are cleaning it out every day. A habba mist would be much better and so would a dripper. Just position the dripper over a leaf so the water drips on it and the chameleon can drink the drops off the leaf.
Can i leave the female and male together on a large cage always, or should i only place them together during mating and then remove the female when she changes color?
@tzanotto They can never be housed together. Only place them together when she is receptive to the male. If she turns dark with light colored spots she is not ready. Only when she stays bright green after seeing him is she ready to breed. They should be seperated as soon as they are done mating and she changes dark with light spots.
I have a few quick questions, is the mesh of your chameleons metal or plastic? I am thinking of getting the exo-terra flexarium, but its made out of plastic and i am no sure about placing the spot light on it (afraid it might melt). The spot reflector is one of those zoomed (large).
@tzanotto I use both metal and fabric mesh cages. The fabric mesh cages will not burn when a heat lamp is placed on it. For a heat bulb the best thing to use is a regular 60 watt house light bulb. Do not use the high heat reptile bulbs because they get to hot and can burn your chameleon. The basking spot should stay in the 90's.
plz reply so i am going to get a baby or adult Veiled chameleon if i get a baby it will be 3 to 4 month old but will they die easy and will they bond with you more than a already adult thanks

What website would you recommend to buy baby veiled chameleons for a reasonable price (under $50 if possible?). Also, are there any starter kits including the tank that you would recommend?
Great video btw! It was very informative! ^^

Hey I have a 5 or 6 month old female. When will I need a egg laying bin? And can I use something smaller than a garbage can?
Blayzer543 1 year ago
@Blayzer543 Some females start early but usually lay at a year of age. You can try a smaller bin but mine refused. I know of several people who also had issues with smaller bins. If they won't lay eggs they will die so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Last question for now, I had thought of using either the zoomed or exoterra waterfall for watering, is that ok? The other option i thought about would be the Habba Mist from zoomed or a dripper just like the one you show in one of your videos, I would really like to see exactly how you setup your dripper.
tzanotto 1 year ago
@tzanotto I would not use a water fall unless you are cleaning it out every day. A habba mist would be much better and so would a dripper. Just position the dripper over a leaf so the water drips on it and the chameleon can drink the drops off the leaf.

Can i leave the female and male together on a large cage always, or should i only place them together during mating and then remove the female when she changes color?
tzanotto 1 year ago
@tzanotto They can never be housed together. Only place them together when she is receptive to the male. If she turns dark with light colored spots she is not ready. Only when she stays bright green after seeing him is she ready to breed. They should be seperated as soon as they are done mating and she changes dark with light spots.

I have decided to get UV 8.0 is it okay? or should i get a 5.0? ( i think its from exo terra)
tzanotto 1 year ago
@tzanotto 8.0 is too high, don't get it. 5.0 is perfect.
TheReptileWhisperer 1 year ago
I have a few quick questions, is the mesh of your chameleons metal or plastic? I am thinking of getting the exo-terra flexarium, but its made out of plastic and i am no sure about placing the spot light on it (afraid it might melt). The spot reflector is one of those zoomed (large).
tzanotto 1 year ago
@tzanotto I use both metal and fabric mesh cages. The fabric mesh cages will not burn when a heat lamp is placed on it. For a heat bulb the best thing to use is a regular 60 watt house light bulb. Do not use the high heat reptile bulbs because they get to hot and can burn your chameleon. The basking spot should stay in the 90's.

where did you get those branches?

How old are the female chameleon when their ready to lay eggs?
yosobro2140 1 year ago
@yosobro2140 I would not breed one until a year of age.

do you spray the chameleon directly with water, or do you just spray the plants? also, can i find the multivitamins at, say, PetSmart?
annajosanna 1 year ago
@annajosanna Don't sray the eyes ever, just the body lightly and all the plants. Yes you can get vitamins at petsmart

hay i have a veiled and her nails are really sharp what can i do to make them less sharp?
redfootman1 1 year ago
@redfootman1 Nothing, they need their nails to be sharp so they can hold branches and if female to dig when laying eggs.
