I've tried and tried to get my 2 gerbils used to each other, tonight I put them in a big aquarium to see how they'd act with each other. I've had their cages close but the one less tame of the gerbils bear hugged the other and clamped down on the sweet ones nose till it bled. So mad. >_<. They acted like they were cool with each other then wam they latched on to each other. I'm thankful the one didn't kill the other :(
@cl4ir3byw you have to bye another gerbil and give it his on cage and slowly introduce your new gerbil to the old one! Have someone hold your new gerbil and you hold your old and let them sniff each other!! For more info look online!! Goodluck!!
on easter day which was 8 months ago my mom didnt let me get 2:( but there was a gerbil that didnt get along with the others and when i tryed this i didnt leet go but she still dosent like humans/animal please help
Hi, im thinking about buying 2 gerbils soon and was wondering some questions.. Please answer! Is any gender more friendly? Would you suggest an aquarium or a cage? Some people say plastic and others say wire, so what whell would you suggest? PS: I love your videos :>
@sharky0629 if u get 2 gerbils and your planning to put them in the same cage then females work better bcuz males fight over territory and also an aquarium would work better in my opnion bcuz the gerbils will chew on the wire and if the eat it it will make them sick
well it kind of all depends on the gerbil on how fast you can train them... from personal experience. and your gerbil doesn't really need to be trained, mostly just becoming tame and easy to handle. anything else is really necessary.
My gerbil is alone because Pets at home allowed them to be sold whatever quantities people wanted so when I arrived Pikachu was in a cage all on her own :( I'm really worried she's sad and lonely how can I tell and how can I fix this?
@iloveanimals301 yes u can i have a hamster and a gerbil. Make sure that its not tight on the there body and make sure they aren't choking :) i know i might misspelled a few crap so yeah hope this help. and don't pull on the lead use gonna put on him/her
i got mine for 9 dollers lol any ways how do i breed them i have a 5 month old female my sis has a 9 month male and a 6 month female and shes having babies soon so i but the male in the bathtub with my female they started to kiss but then when he got close to her she would sqeek and then he would hide and then she went after him and the when into a ball and then i took her out that was the 2 time she seen him i put buddy up to her at first with bars and they where fine help plzz
@dylanman124 well my cage had a plastic wheel and one of them used it. but then they chewed it up. so i got a medal one and now they just hide under it. there wasnt a wheel in the cage because i got them pretty young.
@W1llpow3r2 Well about that.... when I had my gerbil he didnt go much so i could leave the litter in the cage without it stinking or being bad. so i didnt have to buy alot of litter and plus you can just buy cheap litter(it is actully better)
@W1llpow3r2 Oh, that is sooo cool i love reptiles(sry if i spelled that wrong) they are cool. i want a snake. my gerbil Ace passed away about a year ago but i have a hamster and i also after her(Twilight) i am getting two gerbils.
I heard the tubes aren't good for gerbils, because they're plastic and they can chew them and get shards of plastic in their system and die... ??? Anyone agree with me?
@DeliaSummerIan yeah my pair of gerbils are great except one of them keeps biting me when I hold him as the other one is a little sweatheart and he wont bite anyone even if strangers pick him up! :)
I have a female gerbil named Bella, and i just need help on how to train her on how to use her ball, cause when i put Bella in the ball she just sits there untell i take her out....can u help me please?
can some one tell mme the life span of gerbils? im getting one from a friend who has baby gerbills but iget really attatched to animals and it would really suck if they had a short life span:(
@liz45541 Gerbils can live up to 5 years. FYI get 2 gerbils NOT one. Gerbils are very social, and need a friend. A single gerbil can get very sick and die.
@liz45541 2-3 years is average. over 4 years is good and 5 years is just plain lucky, it depends on their health. they seem to be alot happier in pairs and live longer x they are sociable, just like humans.
Saturday must be a popular time to get gerbils! Well anywho... My hamster Sandy (may she rest in peace) died two days ago, and im looking for another small friend. I'm debating between 2-3 male gerbils (i heard they are less competitive as females) or 2 female rats.... any help?
@JanetIsNumberOne That's how we are with pets. Nothing lives forever, we just have to cherish the times we spend with them. Don't think about your gerbil dying if you do get another, simply remember the happy, fun moments you had with Billy. Two of my gerbs died around 6 months ago, and though I have adopted a couple of abandoned gerbils now, I wont forget the happiness my old two brought me [:
i have 4 gerbils and i love handling them but they are so fast and wont sit still, and they always try to climb off me..and do you get nail clippers? because their claws really hurt and they are seriously long!
Hmm I want to get some gerbils >:3 I have a hamster already though... She was easy to train! I mean I heard it took a while but my dear sandy was just a little angel! She even tolerates cuddling as long as its not for too long, or else shell start grinding her teeth :p
@HabboHacksta nah, but they did run away several times...eventually, they never came back :( (someone left the door open...and I was an irresponsible pet owner, anyway)
@HabboHacksta i had 2. one died, i thought about getting another one but its just a cycle. one will die then u gotta get another one. mine seems fine as long as we give it attention.
@OoKimberlyDianaOo Ohhh fair enough, are they clean animals? Like do they poo and wee in one spot? Because im thinking of getting one because i want something different to a hamster haha
My Gerbil doesnt really like to be held he always runs. i tryed to put food in my hand and let it eat out of it and it didnt go for thatcan some one help me. Please! and he wont eat his food its hamster food
@peugene10 it really depends on the hamster/gerbil. =) my hamster never bit me once, EVER, and my friend's gerbil bit her all the time at the beginning. my brother's gerbil never bit us tho, andthe hamster we had before this one bit a lot at the start like my friend's gerbil =)
My gerbil lives on its own, but I have 2 other gerbils who live together, but the people in the pet store said I can't mix them, because he is living on his own is he going to die?
@DecTM one of the rules for taking care of a gerbil is that he HAS to be with another, same gender. (boys r better cuz girls fight sometimes) lots of gerbils die within 2 weeks of lonliness, and the pet shop ppl should definitely know that. if they are all the same gender (again, better if boys) but theyve never been together before, maybe put their cages side by side and try taking them all out for them to get to know each other?? if they get along eventually u can mix them =)
@shiningstars1997 That's what we're doing now, I've been saying to my mum: I feel bad because he's on his own. And she said He would have been on his own no matter what, because he was the only one left.
We've started letting them play together and they really seem to like each other, I hope it goes well so we can have a group of them :-D
@DecTM thats awesome!!! gerbils will live longer even by a month if he has a partner. put their cages side by side tho, and if they show signs of wanting to be together u can try mixing them for a few hours, but be there just in case. good luck!!!
@shiningstars1997 haha ive done that, the amount of times theyve went for each other though, older females are tricky, ive had to intervene and have ended up with a gerbil attached to my hand and blood everywhere lol
@daffodill7 your gerbil will definitely live longer (even by a month) if he has a partner, unless you're playing with him 24/7. gerbils are active day and night, so they need a partner all the time. =) try getting another gerbil *(not too young since your gerbil is already 2 years) the same gender, but dont put them in the same cage right away.
@daffodill7 in fact, just having 2 gerbils together in different cages but exactly side by side (some of the cages have to be glass so they can see each other, and, glass cages work better for gerbils) will ease their lonliness and if they show signs of wanting to be together (ex. going near each other in their cages) you could try mixing them for a few hours but make sure ur with them or else they may get into a fight and kill each other =) good luck!!!
They're cute, but rats make better pets. In my experience, gerbils don't really bond with you, never really wanting to chill out with your or let you pet them. They -never- chill out.
@silvermoonwolf19 if you hold them in a different position and you pet their head softly then they might even fall aslpeep, sooo gerbils do calm down. I do like rats though
@overlord7778 no hamsters and gerbils done get along. =) but gerbils have to be with a pair or else they either get sick or die from lonliness. dwarf hamsters get along with each other, it's better if they're in pairs or three. but syrian hamsters are single guys =)
first learn care about your gerbil... he is vey dirty and his coat is fatty..you have to use chinchilla sand.. first learn something about gerbils before you want to say something about them!!!
@Awesomenizzleness I did that the first time we bought a new gerbil. I put her on the sofa with one of the old gerbils, which started chasing her, and when I tried to rescue her she (understandably) bit me. I was so startled that I threw her across the room. Luckily she was all right because I would've felt so guilty if she had been seriously hurt. But she went on to have a lot of baby gerbils over the years.
i had a gerbil that would crawl into my hand if i held it into the cage, a female named Bella. i'm saying she crawled because it was the only thing she could do, she could't walk properly or run around, cuz when she was a pup her mother chewed off her back-legs, so all that was left was little stumps and the mother had actually killed another pup. but Bella managed to get around just fine, she had a happy life with her sister Pinky. both managed to escape once, i forgot to close the cage door :)
i had two gerbils but my orange one died =( poor kazooie,
the other one (banjo) has now lived alone for almost a year but sometimes strggles to get up and jump about and she is almost two do u know what could be wrong?
my gerbil seems barely eat...but she's still that 'fat'. i dont even see any change w the water fill. it has been same. i put fresh water, fresh food and fresh sawdust and nothing change. she keeps run away from me when i try to pick her up...my mom hasnt buy wheel for her to run in and toys to keep her entertainment.
@kaylizzle93 Saw dust is bad. BAD. It causes respiratory infections. As for the water bottle, first of all poke at the tip of it and make sure the water is freely flowing. If you worry they don't know how to use it, place a small water dish directly under it and put some water in it. It will show them where they drink and eventually they may understand the bottle. Another thing to remember is that gerbils drink only a very small amount of water. It may not be horribly noticeable when she drinks.
@kaylizzle93 Also, for the food issue you may want to try a different type of food. If you have her on pellet form now, buy her the gerbil/hamster seed and pellet mix. For cheap entertainment, grab toilet paper rolls when they've been emptied and stick them in the cage. The gerbil will love ripping it up. Another thing is not being able to hold her. The main thing you should do is lay your hand in the cage and just keep it still. She has to get used to you. Baby steps.
@glaceon101able Gerbils are one of the most clean rodents.... so I doubt it. Besides, I'm pretty sure a pet store or animal shelter wouldn't sell a diseased animal...
I've tried and tried to get my 2 gerbils used to each other, tonight I put them in a big aquarium to see how they'd act with each other. I've had their cages close but the one less tame of the gerbils bear hugged the other and clamped down on the sweet ones nose till it bled. So mad. >_<. My gerbil lives on its own, but I have 2 other gerbils who live together, but the people in the pet store said I can't mix them, because he is living on his own is he going to die?
DecTM 1 year ago
@DecTM one of the rules for taking care of a gerbil is that he HAS to be with another, same gender. (boys r better cuz girls fight sometimes) lots of gerbils die within 2 weeks of lonliness, and the pet shop ppl should definitely know that. if they are all the same gender (again, better if boys) but theyve never been together before, maybe put their cages side by side and try taking them all out for them to get to know each other?? if they get along eventually u can mix them =)
shiningstars1997 1 year ago
@shiningstars1997 That's what we're doing now, I've been saying to my mum: I feel bad because he's on his own. And she said He would have been on his own no matter what, because he was the only one left.
We've started letting them play together and they really seem to like each other, I hope it goes well so we can have a group of them :-D
DecTM 1 year ago
@DecTM thats awesome!!! gerbils will live longer even by a month if he has a partner. put their cages side by side tho, and if they show signs of wanting to be together u can try mixing them for a few hours, but be there just in case. good luck!!!

@shiningstars1997 haha ive done that, the amount of times theyve went for each other though, older females are tricky, ive had to intervene and have ended up with a gerbil attached to my hand and blood everywhere lol

and ive had him for 2 years ...
daffodill7 1 year ago
@daffodill7 your gerbil will definitely live longer (even by a month) if he has a partner, unless you're playing with him 24/7. gerbils are active day and night, so they need a partner all the time. =) try getting another gerbil *(not too young since your gerbil is already 2 years) the same gender, but dont put them in the same cage right away.
shiningstars1997 1 year ago
@daffodill7 in fact, just having 2 gerbils together in different cages but exactly side by side (some of the cages have to be glass so they can see each other, and, glass cages work better for gerbils) will ease their lonliness and if they show signs of wanting to be together (ex. going near each other in their cages) you could try mixing them for a few hours but make sure ur with them or else they may get into a fight and kill each other =) good luck!!!

this chick is so wrong, gerbils will never bite you unless you have food on your hand, or if you are doing somthing it dislikes

@ColdShifted it really depends on the gerbil =)

They're cute, but rats make better pets. In my experience, gerbils don't really bond with you, never really wanting to chill out with your or let you pet them. They -never- chill out.
Rats do.
silvermoonwolf19 1 year ago
@silvermoonwolf19 if you hold them in a different position and you pet their head softly then they might even fall aslpeep, sooo gerbils do calm down. I do like rats though

PapayaDove 1 year ago
@PapayaDove dwarf hamsters get along with each other, in fact, it's better if they're with others. but syrian hamsters prefer to be alone
shiningstars1997 1 year ago
@shiningstars1997 Shhhh! You're interrupting my know-it-allism XD (I forgot about dwarf hamsters being gregarious; thanks for the reminder :) )
PapayaDove 1 year ago
@PapayaDove lol welcome ~ =P
shiningstars1997 1 year ago
@overlord7778 no hamsters and gerbils done get along. =) but gerbils have to be with a pair or else they either get sick or die from lonliness. dwarf hamsters get along with each other, it's better if they're in pairs or three. but syrian hamsters are single guys =)

KevinCarey 1 year ago
@Awesomenizzleness I did that the first time we bought a new gerbil. I put her on the sofa with one of the old gerbils, which started chasing her, and when I tried to rescue her she (understandably) bit me. I was so startled that I threw her across the room. Luckily she was all right because I would've felt so guilty if she had been seriously hurt. But she went on to have a lot of baby gerbils over the years.

i had a gerbil that would crawl into my hand if i held it into the cage, a female named Bella. i'm saying she crawled because it was the only thing she could do, she could't walk properly or run around, cuz when she was a pup her mother chewed off her back-legs, so all that was left was little stumps and the mother had actually killed another pup. but Bella managed to get around just fine, she had a happy life with her sister Pinky. both managed to escape once, i forgot to close the cage door :)

my gerbil seems barely eat...but she's still that 'fat'. i dont even see any change w the water fill. it has been same. i put fresh water, fresh food and fresh sawdust and nothing change. she keeps run away from me when i try to pick her up...my mom hasnt buy wheel for her to run in and toys to keep her entertainment.
kaylizzle93 1 year ago
@kaylizzle93 Saw dust is bad. BAD. It causes respiratory infections. As for the water bottle, first of all poke at the tip of it and make sure the water is freely flowing. If you worry they don't know how to use it, place a small water dish directly under it and put some water in it. It will show them where they drink and eventually they may understand the bottle. Another thing to remember is that gerbils drink only a very small amount of water. It may not be horribly noticeable when she drinks.
CasaundraTruffles 1 year ago
@kaylizzle93 Also, for the food issue you may want to try a different type of food. If you have her on pellet form now, buy her the gerbil/hamster seed and pellet mix. For cheap entertainment, grab toilet paper rolls when they've been emptied and stick them in the cage. The gerbil will love ripping it up. Another thing is not being able to hold her. The main thing you should do is lay your hand in the cage and just keep it still. She has to get used to you. Baby steps.

Is it okay if they bite you?could u get a disease from it?
glaceon101able 1 year ago
@glaceon101able Gerbils are one of the most clean rodents.... so I doubt it. Besides, I'm pretty sure a pet store or animal shelter wouldn't sell a diseased animal...

@121itzel it's to maintain their fur ^^ when you give them fresh clean sand, they will roll in it to keep their fur clean and soft
at least, that's what they told me xD
