The comparison of drunk driving to shooting out a radiator are not so equal and can be judged different ways. However, I know of a very similar situation where a 7yr sentence was given not a 4.25 yr sentence, with half the time served. The variables that were different in that case were race and jurisdiction. I would consider one to be prudent to assume all drivers to be unpredictable. That can proactively save innocent lives .

If ya think about it, the Blacks , the Native Americans, the Irish & the Jews have all been screwed over by the white man.

But not too many ppl know about the Irish & what England did to them-read "Trinity" & you'll know it all. If I remember correctly & I could be mistaken, the Native Americans helped the Irish when they were being taken over by England & tortured! I read it somewhere on the net. The justice system is corrupt. Two friends were recently killed in Chicago by an off-duty drunk police officer. Hes white and free and my friends are Mexican and dead. This country obviously has no love for us.

The plight of Native Americans on reservations is terrible. You might not believe this, but I love you for the human you are. In 1988, my friend Kenny Willet and 2 of his cousins were killed by a drunk Detroit Lion football player. He only did 90 days. So you see, it is not just Indians, this is the cass system. We put more value on the almighty dollar than human life. All humanity is about to swallow itself. Though I understand the problem Russell is discussing, it won't get better until the Indian people do something about it themselves. And Russell, you're generalized anger seems to be targeted at "whites" instead of the system.

There is blatant white racism against Indians in South Dakota, of that I am sure of because I've experienced it myself. But all of us have to be careful not to hate each other based on skin color or the deeds of each other's ancestors.

Nothing has changed, no doubt, and it's going to get a lot worse unfortunately. that's why it is so important that we become allies and unite together as Americans or whatever term you prefer.

Russell, the Native Americans being sovereign, can they not establish their own courts and law, that is not under the US Federal Government's private laws - its various 'Acts', 'Statutes', 'Bills', 'Regulations' and 'Codes' etc.?

Surely you can also establish their rightful true claim to the land - true legal title to it, not as a 'reservation' under US Federal Gov administration, but ownership of land true, clear and outright.

The US Federal Government (Corp U.S.) has done terrible things.

Even in Texas drunk driving is felony but mansloughter. 5-10 years is a very long time to be locked up like an animal. I do not know the man. Where are the other Judges that Hotz stood in front of during his other three DUIs? I'm sure they'd be upset to hear that Judge Karen Schreier let him get away with murder.

What are the laws in SD about DUI's, when is enough, enough? When do you lose your license?

Hotz poses a HUGE threat to the public. Lives were lost because of this mans actions. He's NOT an "upstanding citizen" as his family & defense attorney claim.
