You have a point when you say he signed up for it and that he should follow superior orders. However, he also has a moral and ethical right to refuse to do something he believes is wrong. For example, if you're an accountant and the CFO tells you to write him a company check for a million dollars with no valid justification, you can refuse to do so. I believe it's the same thing here.

I served... united states navy at a cryptologic technicians interpretive. I agree that this war is 99.9% legal... only grounds for that .01% of it not being illegal is that saddam needed ousted. We've done that... so why did we stay in and stir up more shit to make us stay in longer? Nobody knows... tho they blame it on the terrorists and extremists.

All I can say is he is 100% correct. This man is a true patriot in every sense of the word. He has stood up and spoke out about this war when no one else had the courage. Many people were mislead by bush at the start of this war and believed in what he said now those same people are the ones that go against his administration and this war. Lt. Watada is one of them. Its nice to know that not all of the soldiers in the army are not mindless fools that take orders without question.

As for myself, well I am currently earning two degrees with an ROTC scholarship (taxpayer money) and will eventually receive my commission. Therefore, I am perhaps in a better position to understand Watada's oath and his obligations as an officer in the U.S. Army.
