The great Maurice Lamarche, master voice actor! He should have been crdited, but at least he should feel satisfied with being in one of the best films of all time.
True! Whatever we may think of Charlton Heston, he wasn't a bad actor and he was able to handle such a paradoxical situation. As far as I remember, he was even given some freedom by Welles. There's a scene where he is in a car having a conversation with a fellow actor and they had to shoot it as a full sequence and apparently Welles allowed him to do it on his own.
Oh, I need to dig up my dvd of A Touch of Evil and watch the "making of" the film. ;)
@jerico641 Yes, I'm 100% sure. It's in several of his biographies, it's also in the audio recordings of the extensive interviews conducted with him by Peter Bogdonavich.
@Cleon29Warrior Honestly, he was great too! Touch of Evil is my favorite Welles film and while the man himself is great in it, I think Heston does the best performance in the film!
This scene is brilliant. It shows, even though they were on opposite ends of the quality spectrum, Ed Wood and Orson Welles had more in common as filmmakers than people would believe.
I think it was Paul Frees who dubbed Welles' voice for this scene. D'Onofrio and Welles certainly did look alike, although this would've been the 1943 version of Welles, by this time he was much heavier. This scene is fictitious but it really adds a lot to this fine movie. By the way, I think making Heston's character a Mexican in "Touch of Evil" was Welles' idea, to make the character a little more interesting. See "This Is Orson Welles," the interview book with Peter Bogdanovich.
vincent donorfio and johnny depp at this same movie !!
awesome !!
he actually looks like orson welles and of this really happend in real life then ed wood cant be the worst filmmaker , ed wood had what most hollywood shit machines nowadays have not , heart !
@MsAndromede Yes he did. The scene was touched so much, so can't admire his talent of playing orsen's mannerisms, but he looked and sound a lot like when orsen was his age, Kane's time.
@MsAndromede "The Brain" is a character from the animated show "Animaniacs" and its spin-off "Pinky and the Brain." Pinky and the Brain were two laboratory mice who were set on taking over the world. I figured most everyone knew about those shows...
The dubbing of Orson Welles is pretty obvious. Notice how there's no ambient noise from his dialogue in the recording.

I beg to differ, he does look a great deal like Orson.

Horrible dubbing job, at that. Voice isn't bad, it's just that it doesn't match up.

As close to Orson Wells as it gets.
Creepy and brilliant.

@MsAndromede and funny thing to put in the movie if you think of the fact that wells played othello

@Cleon29Warrior
The ironic part is that Heston wasn't supposed to play a Mexican. Welle's added that to the movie himself.

Arguably the best and worst directors of all-time at the same booth...
But the one thing both men had in common--THEY LOVED ART AND THEATRE AND FILMS.
RIP Welles and Wood...visions ARE worth fighting for!

Maurice LaMarche is one of the best voice actors of our generation.
If Unicron (who was originally voiced by Orson Welles) ever appears in a new Transformers movie or video game, he had better be voiced by LaMarche.
Oh, and also he's gonna be Mr. Freeze in Arkham City.
God, I love this voice!
