I have not seen the movie but, what bothers me is how many male critics say that this movie is sexist toward women. How can a male critic know what is sexist toward women? To me that's like when white people who say something is racists toward black people. How can they say that when there not black? That’s like speaking for an entire race that you are not a part of or speaking for an entire sex as the case may be. Anyway, did you think Sucker Punch was sexist?
I'm 13 and I loved this movie, it's right up my streak! Like you im also a girl gamer and I fell in love with it from the first five minutes I saw it (best part of the film). Ure only truly gunna understand it if you've wanted to escape or felt really down at some point in your life. And most guys were expecting action and sex but I think this really gets to the girls :)
I completely agree with you on EVERYTHING about this movie. Especially the art and the lack of profanity. And as for why guys didn't like it, it's cause they went into it thinking they would see a "shoot'em up" with girls in lingerie, but it wasn't, so they raged
I wanted Sucker Punch to be a lighthearted action movie romp with kick ass gurl power. Instead it was a peep hole of depravity. I get Zach was going for a statement yet it comes off as radically feminist and misogynistic. Radically feminist because most of the male characters (excluding Wise man) are portrayed as sex offenders. Misogynistic on account the girls are never truly "empowered". They all end up in dangerous, objectified, and compromised situations. Wish I could see it like you do Ray!
She wasn't the only one who was doing something. For example the dragon sequence should of have focused more Amber since she was the one actually getting the lighter. I know it's a look into Babydoll's mind, but it should have featured the other girls more and it would have made more sense. It's kind of a fatheaded view if you think about it. All Babydoll is doing is "dancing" while the other girls are risking their lives. They all should of had a bigger part to play is what I am saying.
I liked it on some level. I think I would have liked it more if the different sequences were connected better. It was incredibly hard to feel anything during the sequences. It was a bit exciting to watch but there was no sense of danger, I wish that they tied it back to "reality" more. For example the final sifi sequence was done well because there actually was a sense of danger and things didn't turn out okay after it. Also I didn't like how the center of every sequence was about babydoll
I agree. Sucker Punch did some things very outside the box, especially compared to most shit that Hollywood cranks out these days. And the bra burners need to chill. There was NO screwing in it and most action movies have objectified men as well. You know, well chiselled physiques and such.
SuckerPunch was amazing. i was a bit confused at first but i totally got it at the end. anyways, that movie was awesome. i couldnt keep my eyes off it, even when i had to pee i just held it . lol it totally had my whole attention. i own it on DVD so i will be watching it many more times. The soundtrack is great , the music takes you to another world. which is perfect for this movie.<3
I loved this film. To me, it's like DelToro's Pan's Labyrinth on steroids. I loved "Pan's" as well. Maybe year later, people will actually appreciate this film for what it is. A visual masterpiece. See, I'm an artist so, I'm a very visual person. I love films that say, if I watched as silent films would be clear - and make sense. Not to say I don't like Tarantino and dialogue - but, to me films are a powerful visual medium and they're not radio. This film kicks ass and makes you think.
They were specking a group of sexy girls kicking ass, and maybe some scenes that you talk about like boob shots and panty shots, and some more sexy ass kicking, and stuff like that... The plot is a bit complex for simple-minded people to understand. Even if you explained it so well (how a mind can cope with extremely dark situations) they're not gonna understand it, hence not gonna like it. *shrugs* Meh. XD I agree: it was awesome, and the ending made me cry. ^^
@akissy The plot isn't complex, it's convoluted and unnecessarily confusing. You wanna see a movie about where the mind takes someone when they're pushed into a dark place? Watch Brazil. It's a much better movie and it doesn't need to rely on tits, ass, guns, and explosions to keep your attention. Say what you will but it's not a terribly smart or original idea. I had to force myself to sit through this movie, cuz I kept falling asleep.
@NamAim1991 The plot wasn't convoluted. I understood it really easily. The whole point of the story was to contrast Hollywood's sexploitation garbage with a realistic story about a young defenceless girl. Brazil is nothing like that primarily because the protagonist is a man and the theme is politics (bureacracy). It's not the film's fault that you weren't intelligent enough to follow it.
@RevolutionaryLoser Okay. You're argument is that the point of the story was to contrast Hollywood's sexploitatino garbage with a "realistic story" (back that up with an "intelligent" argument as you decided to insult mine) about a defenseless girl. Right. She could've defended herself. In fact. She tried and she died. Sexploitation garbage? This is sexploitation garbage. It's prettied up guns in braziers. Also Mr. Loser I'd appreciate you not stooping to petty insults.
@NamAim1991 I appreciate you took time to consider my point but I think you don't understand what sexploitation is. For clarification's sake, I never stooped to petty insults. Also, before you rush to critisize the film depending on tits and ass to sell I would ask you to watch the film. There are virtually no tits in it, at any point. Nor is there much ass. Hell, the one moment where you would get to see any was in the dance scenes which were purposefully omitted for that reason.
@RevolutionaryLoser I'll try my best to give it another shot, but my first impression of it wasn't so good. I just felt it was over-glorified guns and CGI scenes that, if the story is as good as you say, distracted greatly from any substance. I felt like I was watching a music video with a thin story and far too much slow-mo (I literally fell asleep 2 or 2 times, but I was also a bit tired.) Maybe I'll give it one more shot, but that first impression makes a big impact.
I couldn't be more agree with you. The movie is amazing, It just blew my mind up!
I mean, the visual effects, the look of the film, the character, althoug there was no development, and of couse the sound track. Was all amazing and I can't understand why people didn´t like it. I mean, for me this was one of the best movies of 2011.
I think the movie isn't about Baby doll, it's about Sweetpea. Remember who is narrating, remember that the first time we see Sweetpea, Gorsky tells her "You are in control here, you decide what happens in this reality you made". Sweetpea was the only survivor.Baby doll had to be sacrificed in order that Sweetpea could make it out - back to sanity. The asylum is Sweetpea admitting that she has mental problems, the first step to recovery. The whole story takes place in Sweetpeas head.
Seriously! you didn't like Rango which is one of the most visually inventive animated films in recent history, and yet you favoured Sucker Punch, which is a unimaginative and plagiaristic film with a script you could write on the back of a 2nd class stamp. You also claim this flick is about the mind exploring new bounders, and yet everything is utterly stolen from superior films.
@gloryboxlock ...What's your definition of "chubby" and "half naked"? She is a perfectly healthy weight, you must have an eating disorder or something. She's showing her arms and collar bone, I fail to see how that's dressing up like a bimbo. She never even said she thinks she's hot, she's not even talking about beauty, she's talking about a movie, I don't see what makes you think she's being vain.
i personly loved the film and this review showed me thinks that i didn't understand before so thank you, still a little confused with the institue/berlesque thing...:/
(completly off task, you look a little like isobel from vampire diaries, sorry if you take offense of any kind)
I think Zack chose no blood, and no profanity to go with the theme of the fantasy world, where things are dark, people don't bleed and don't curse. I very much doubt it was a ploy to attract younger viewers.
I didn't think this movie was a 10 out of 10, but it was definetley about a 7 or an 8. I sort of didn't give a shit about baby doll, because she wasn't well developed, but I went in thinking the movie was about hot chicks killing things, and instead got a really cool storyline, some kick ass action/music video scenes, and all of my favorite genres rolled up into 1. People don't like it because it was not a good movie in theory, but a good movie is a good movie regardless of following any rules.
Hey, I loved Sucker Punch a lot!! Damn its was good! The 5 girl where amazing. I even liked Vanessa Hudgens (blondie) for the fist time an Jamie Chung (Amber) is the best. These are my 2 favo, but i actually like the scene when they die because they where killed in a ciuple of seconds and that made it extra dramatic. But on the other side it's sad that they die too... But that movie is adirable and thx for this video :p xoxo
@nightsavior1 ah ha ha sorry but the hypocrisy of her statement had to be corrected. she's not a movie snob, I look at her and she seems like the type of her person that movie was made for. About your analysis, of course men and women equaly looked like bad in this. it's just that nobody bothered to say it.
the visuals were amazing but the script was full of plot holes bigger than the sun, little sexual inuendo you said?,"they were dressed like hookers" , what about all the boob, ass and crouch shoots? hey i'm not complaining about it, that was the only thing keep me going on the theater hahaha!, the soundtrack i think they should have used an original score that matches the time period the movie was based on,and they destroy a few songs with the horrendous covers.
@kratos3821 but i'm agreed with you in a lot of things, the problems with the movie didn't distracted me from enjoy the movie but there is something that started to wear me off from zack snyders movies and that is slow motion every new movie he film has more slow-mo than the last one , i hope he quit using it,the movie didn't deserved the bad blood that everybody gave it ,because in a time where everything is a remake sequel or reboot this was refreshing, so what's your favorite zack sny' movie?
I was pumped for this movie....and it failed. The story was thin and terribly tied together to the point where it was put together at random. I udnerstand there are three planes of reality in this film (the real world, the burlesque version and then the four scenarios when baby doll dances), however, they are barely tied together. It almost seems if zack snyder made up four scenarios and then simply placed the story around this. I wish they would have tied the story to the real world more
Hey! I'm 15 and Zach Snyder is one of my fave directors, I hate twilight, hate Justin bieber, and I absolutely loved sucker punch. Don't hate on all teenage girls
iam a teen and i loved it the best movie ever the blood part your right about but who cares and how the girls were so in to the move and the scenes and all that stuff so go see it or rent it just see it
could there have been a lack of character developement because the three who died weren't actually real? (i'm almost positive rocket wasn't real. not sure about other two)
dont agree w/ u on profanity thing, but w/ the rest i agree, laughed at the teen girl beiber/twighlight thing -.- (I personally don't hate beiber, but i don't like him either, and twighlight, i can't speak the words to describe my disgust, btw i AM a dude, that might explain some of it)
ps. check out beiber vs beethoven epic rap battle of history for great beiber bashing -.-
I have never seen a more polarizing movie than this one. I look on amazon.com and the majority like it there too. This is a sad day for the film industry. When you critique something you have to ask what the creator was trying to achieve and rate it on that. That is why the movie was a "Failure" (FAIL for the youngins).
I don't think a movie snob can like this movie. A movie can be analyzed on its own merit. He went for something and fell way short. It has a lot of real problems.
Rango had alot of influence and images from fear and loathing. Which if you have seen Fear and Loathing in Vegas, you know it's not really a "childrens" movie.
i comletley agreed with your review and the thing i like the most about the film was the music because it just went so well with the film especially when we get introduced to the mayor there is no diologue but just by the visuals and the music we know exactly what kind of guy he is i think sucker punch had the best soundtrack for a movie it just went so well with it i just don't understand why people hate this film so much i loved it 5 stars
@3:50 - 4:08 character development is a necessary component of emotional attachment. How the hell can you be emotionally attached to a character with it being developed? All the girls acted the exact same and were unbelievably uninteresting
i agree with you Raychul.i loved the movie as well! alot of the action was very cool and i loved the fact that it was basically about girl power! and i also agree that they could have put some profanity and a little more blood.i wasn't quite sure why at the end baby doll didn't show a wound from the lombotamy.but overall a great movie!i saw it 3 times!
Best review I seen on this movie so far. I really enjoyed the movie Sucker Punch and even picked it up at best by a few days ago. I will definitely check out your other videos.
CRAP!............you know watch your mouth little ids watch SuckerPunch so yah shut your mouth with curse words god damn. and wow your a humugas movie snob and a idiot all movies i see are awesome you stink at picking movies
She didn't have and scars from the lobotomy because it was a transorbital lobotomy. The actually go in from the eye socket. Basically they take an ice pick, put it in your eye socket above/behind the eye ball, hammer it through the socket, wiggle it around to scramble the brain tissue and then remove the pick. There are no visible scars or punctures.
Finally saw the movie after a few months of your review. Man it was a spectacular movie great review. Also keep up with the great reviews your my fave gamer reviewer, and in this case movie reviewer. Keep all the reviews up you rock and I enjoy your opinion!
All the characters in Baby Doll's "happy place" are representations of her and her sister. Sweet Pea is a stronger, more mature version of Baby Doll. Rocket is Baby Doll's sister. Blondie is Baby Doll's cry for help. And Amber is the stuffed animal that Baby Doll's sister holds onto in bed. That's what I took from it.
What I want to see more is girls who are like 18-19 years old in lead roles in action movies. But they won't do that, you know why? Because people want to see BS. They wanna see the guy getting the girl and all that stuff.
@RaychulMoore, plus there is an orc fight in the dragon scene that was EPIC that was cut out that was badass, then there is a first half of the scene withwith John Hamm that made the final lobotomy scene make so much more sense. In the extended cut it makes more sense when he points out Baby Doll's expression and how it was so hopefull. I watched both cuts and i loved the extended cut.
@RaychulMoore, there is now an extended version of Sucker Punch, it is the complete story and its rated R. Zach Snyder had to submit the film to the MPAA 13 times to get it down to a PG-13 version. Because of that 18 minutes of footage was cut from the final production and yes there was some profanity that was cut out for the purpose of being PG-13. I loved the extended cut, the scenes that were cut out made the movie sooo much better, it makes the story make more sense. You should check it out.
i'm a teenage girl i like sucker punch and i hate justine bieber also the only thing that was a tad depressing was the ending but it is an awesome epic movie i kinda want a sucker punch 2 yea i'm kind of sad !!! XD
it's cool you mentioned The Jacket, it's a good movie. Sucker punch, not really. The ending is alright, but overall it's a movie that leaves you with no impression. But, that's just my opinion.
@Cheaptrix91 Yeah, that didn't make sense...plus they showed it wrong anyway, lobotomies used to be done up through the nose, but they showed it like he did it through the corner of her eye....
@Cheaptrix91 well it only went through her cornea, so there wouldn't have been some badass scar or anything, though she probably would cry blood through that cornea for a little while...it would have been epic onscreen, but that's just me...
@Cheaptrix91 + They were very careful NOT to show her face while we were seeing 100% reality at the end. Then when the camera turns slowly back to her, we see her face at peace, and she closes her eyes, signifying that through her actions to save her friend, her spirit found peace. IT WAS BEAUTIFULLY DONE. Showing her scared face, bloody and drooling from no longer having a mind would have defeated the whole theme of the movie. Was very smart not to show that.
I agree with you, Sucker Punch is great. I can understand that most critics say it has no sense and is so awful, but personally I liked it. Characters are well constructed, not so deep but very charming. The effects, are great. Actors, well, maybe I cannot judge it well, but at least I liked it. Sucker Punch should be a cult movie (so-bad-it's-good cult film, maybe) I can assure you. :)
thank god there's 1 SMART reviewer who understood the movie, people are stupid as shit and don't understand the meaning of the movie, just like inception, just because you don't understand it, it doesn't mean the movie is bad, it just means that you're too stupid to understand that kind of movies...
I really liked your review on Sucker Punch, you hit it on the ball. I think the PG 13 was big Hollywood trying to cash in. If it was rated R it would of been much more awesome. Either way I thought it was one of the most original films since Inception. Sucker Punch is a Post Modern visual sci-fi fantasy action pic that will be a cult classic. By the way Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder are teaming up for Superman Man of Steel, tell me what you think :)
While I'm thankful to see a positive review, not confusing the movie with bloody Inception, I think you misunderstood one important thing. The whole brothel thing and the dreams are not Baby Doll's way of dealing with reality, but a clever metaphor made up by Zack to cover up the brutal and depressing world of the asylum. They're his "tools", which he uses to create enjoyment out of a bleak underlying reality. A sort of "teach by example" or "show, don't tell". A unique way to make a movie.
Interesting review, a lot better than the crap those morons on Rotten tomatoes like to put out. I do think that the storytelling was the weakest part of the movie, since it never really explained the whole dream within a dream approach like Inception did. The ending just confused me- was that a dream or reality? The performances were fine, the action was cool put it seemed out of place and only happened when the girl danced as opposed to whenever she wanted to escape reality. It was good 7/10
finally some one who understands the movie. just to put a cherry on top and add a little something to ur review, the meaning was that "You have all the weapons you need. Now fight." which was basically what u were explaining
gonna get it on bluray. its been announced to have an extended cut. and i hope some good features and commentary and other stuff such as deleted scenes and costume fittings!! hehe and other cool stuff. i think it has that Movie Mode that watchmen had as well..
I love the reasons as to why it's called Sucker Punch. It's such a flip off to any kind of mainstream movie goer! Loved the movie, although I agree there could have been more blood (especially *spoiler* when two particular people die, it would have been far crueller and more hard hitting imo)
I'm a teenage girl, and I could not wait to see this after the preview aired! Awesome review, and I agree, it should have been R. Sucker Punch 'effin ruled.
hahah you didnt liked rango but loved sucker punch and whats with these comments about ooh "she gets the movie finaly " what to get ....just bad movie tthats it
Thanks for being so fair and enthusiastic for the great film I agree it should have been an "R' as well, but that's a minor point (I believe the DVD/Blu-Ray will have an R version). I thought the reviewer's comments on the sexuality of the film were perfect. There is a lot going on in this film but it is far more subtle than the ads might lead you to believe. Anyway, thank for a fine job in your review.
(cont) Hell, I didn't really feel much for Babydoll by the end, there really wasn't much about her beside her past. Sure, her story was sad but being in a sad situation doesn't make her engaging or relatable as a character. If you want to see emotional attachment, look at McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. I cried when I read the part he was lobotomized, and I cried at the part with Billy. Why? Because they were developed as characters and could be sympathized with because of that.
No need for character develop- I'm sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense what so ever. Every story needs some form of character development, that's what moves the story along and helps you relate to characters. The reason people are complaining about the lack of character development is because you COULDN'T be emotionally attached to them. They were barely one dimensional and the two that died only had 1-2 lines outside of the dream sequences. So why should we care what happens to them? -
I loved the movie! Some people may have hated it because they didn't understand EVERYTHING. Some say "It's just a stupid action movie", that's a stupid thing to say. I loved the acting, Emily Browning was amazing, Vanessa Hudgens was awesome and everyone else did an amazing job. They actually had to cut out 30 minutes of the movie to make it PG-13, hope they release the DVD with the 30 minutes in. BTW, I'd love to see you cosplay Babydoll :) Love your reviews!
Probably the best explanation on the plot. Great job. Still wondering why hundreds of so-called movie critics and 'experts' didn't get the plot. And yet we, YouTubers, get it.
On paper the concept for the movie was cool, but the problem is that the movie had NO purpose for about 80% of the movie, the burlesque concept was kind of stupid, and her dancing was the dumbest part of all.
The action dream sequences were worth the price of admission, I overall liked the movie, but it is easy to see why someone else would hate it.
dressed up as baby doll at the 2011 comic con please. sucker punch rocks, I love the movie and can't wait for the hot toys figures, great review Raychul see ya at the comic con.
Yes! Finally someone got what this movie was about! I'm getting sick of people hating on Sucker Punch because they didn't get it. What was everyone expecting?? Shakespeare??
I agree with you. I think 'Sucker Punch' isn't a movie made for everyone, because it is a little bit complicaded. I heard people saying 'I hated this film' because they didn't understood the story. But I think that Zack Snyder had that ambicion: makes us think about it.
Yes, yes, yes! I love you! You have a great opinion on this fantastic film and I agree with you one hundred percent! I personally LOVE watchmen and am watching (:D) out for any film that Zach Snyder release and I think you and I share a very similar interest in films! You have just made my day!
i will never understand the zombie-like bandwagon hate for this film. it's no masterpiece but i liked it. was really taken aback though by how sad this film actually was. as someone ailed by depression i too retreat into the fantasies conjured up in my mind to escape the harsh realities of the real world if but a moment. this flick spoke to me and i couldn't stop thinking about it long after it finished.
another thing I get the whole idea, but it was so blank... I don't see how Babygirl was 20 in the movie, because she fit the role of a child, any 20 year old would have a mind to tell the police what happened,
Nothing happened to the Step Father, the main cause of why she got put in there in the first place.... sad...
Story was off not much about the characters, action scenes weren't intense as they could have been. Rock shouldn't have died, more like her sis.
I disagree with the review, this movie wasn't great, but it didn't suck either. My reasons for saying that is because 1: The ending was crap, No one knew the fate of the evil step farther at the beginning.... pretty sad that he got away with it all, and with killing Babygirl's Sister.
Getting Lobotomized was the worst thing, not being able to inform police. I don't understand why'd Rocket died instead of Sweet Pea?
Low character development totally, movie was good visually, and musically.
Firstly, this soundtrack was BOSS, featuring many fantastic remixes/covers of classics, which is a miracle in itself. 2nd, this reminded me of the novel One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest with the parallel of reality vs imagination, an aspect not present in its film adaptation. 3rd, groundbreaking cinematography! This style of film is truly a rarity/endangered species.
..my only wish: no one should have died. at the most, two deaths. and one should have been a villan. no gratification of good vs evil. i know it was a tragidy... but i walkedout of the theature wanting o kill myself. it was TERRIBLE. the ending made me cry and beg WHY THE FUUUUCCCKKKK it would end so terribly? once the train bomb scene ended it just downward spiraled and i should have walked out as soon as 'oeration get the kitchen knife' went down.
I loved the movie, but it was f*cked up.

@gloryboxlock vain = self confidence now? Or is it because you can't do it that you are so envious about it? And, yeah, I Googled her. ^^
akissy 3 months ago
They were specking a group of sexy girls kicking ass, and maybe some scenes that you talk about like boob shots and panty shots, and some more sexy ass kicking, and stuff like that... The plot is a bit complex for simple-minded people to understand. Even if you explained it so well (how a mind can cope with extremely dark situations) they're not gonna understand it, hence not gonna like it. *shrugs* Meh. XD I agree: it was awesome, and the ending made me cry. ^^
akissy 3 months ago
@akissy The plot isn't complex, it's convoluted and unnecessarily confusing. You wanna see a movie about where the mind takes someone when they're pushed into a dark place? Watch Brazil. It's a much better movie and it doesn't need to rely on tits, ass, guns, and explosions to keep your attention. Say what you will but it's not a terribly smart or original idea. I had to force myself to sit through this movie, cuz I kept falling asleep.
NamAim1991 2 months ago
@NamAim1991 The plot wasn't convoluted. I understood it really easily. The whole point of the story was to contrast Hollywood's sexploitation garbage with a realistic story about a young defenceless girl. Brazil is nothing like that primarily because the protagonist is a man and the theme is politics (bureacracy). It's not the film's fault that you weren't intelligent enough to follow it.
RevolutionaryLoser 2 months ago
@RevolutionaryLoser Okay. You're argument is that the point of the story was to contrast Hollywood's sexploitatino garbage with a "realistic story" (back that up with an "intelligent" argument as you decided to insult mine) about a defenseless girl. Right. She could've defended herself. In fact. She tried and she died. Sexploitation garbage? This is sexploitation garbage. It's prettied up guns in braziers. Also Mr. Loser I'd appreciate you not stooping to petty insults.
NamAim1991 1 month ago
@NamAim1991 I appreciate you took time to consider my point but I think you don't understand what sexploitation is. For clarification's sake, I never stooped to petty insults. Also, before you rush to critisize the film depending on tits and ass to sell I would ask you to watch the film. There are virtually no tits in it, at any point. Nor is there much ass. Hell, the one moment where you would get to see any was in the dance scenes which were purposefully omitted for that reason.
RevolutionaryLoser 1 month ago
@RevolutionaryLoser I'll try my best to give it another shot, but my first impression of it wasn't so good. I just felt it was over-glorified guns and CGI scenes that, if the story is as good as you say, distracted greatly from any substance. I felt like I was watching a music video with a thin story and far too much slow-mo (I literally fell asleep 2 or 2 times, but I was also a bit tired.) Maybe I'll give it one more shot, but that first impression makes a big impact.
NamAim1991 1 month ago
@RevolutionaryLoser Or Ms. Loser. I suppose I shouldn't assume.

JackieVodka 4 months ago
I think the movie isn't about Baby doll, it's about Sweetpea. Remember who is narrating, remember that the first time we see Sweetpea, Gorsky tells her "You are in control here, you decide what happens in this reality you made". Sweetpea was the only survivor.Baby doll had to be sacrificed in order that Sweetpea could make it out - back to sanity. The asylum is Sweetpea admitting that she has mental problems, the first step to recovery. The whole story takes place in Sweetpeas head.
Mukkinese 4 months ago
@Mukkinese no, its Babydolls way of dealing with that asylum.like the rape, and overall badness

Seriously! you didn't like Rango which is one of the most visually inventive animated films in recent history, and yet you favoured Sucker Punch, which is a unimaginative and plagiaristic film with a script you could write on the back of a 2nd class stamp.

But that movie is adirable and thx for this video :p xoxo

the visuals were amazing but the script was full of plot holes bigger than the sun, little sexual inuendo you said?,"they were dressed like hookers" , what about all the boob, ass and crouch shoots? hey i'm not complaining about it, that was the only thing keep me going on the theater hahaha!, the soundtrack i think they should have used an original score that matches the time period the movie was based on,and they destroy a few songs with the horrendous covers.

That's what I took from it.
thacuzzoreal 7 months ago
What I want to see more is girls who are like 18-19 years old in lead roles in action movies. But they won't do that, you know why? Because people want to see BS. They wanna see the guy getting the girl and all that stuff.

Respect this review. I kinda went through the stages with it but I think it was a interesting movie none the less.
Verykool904 8 months ago
@RaychulMoore, plus there is an orc fight in the dragon scene that was EPIC that was cut out that was badass, then there is a first half of the scene withwith John Hamm that made the final lobotomy scene make so much more sense. In the extended cut it makes more sense when he points out Baby Doll's expression and how it was so hopefull. I watched both cuts and i loved the extended cut.
danny48604 8 months ago
@RaychulMoore, there is now an extended version of Sucker Punch, it is the complete story and its rated R. Zach Snyder had to submit the film to the MPAA 13 times to get it down to a PG-13 version. Because of that 18 minutes of footage was cut from the final production and yes there was some profanity that was cut out for the purpose of being PG-13. I loved the extended cut, the scenes that were cut out made the movie sooo much better, it makes the story make more sense. You should check it out.

@Cheaptrix91 Yeah, that didn't make sense...plus they showed it wrong anyway, lobotomies used to be done up through the nose, but they showed it like he did it through the corner of her eye....

PhantomOfPanton 7 months ago
@Cheaptrix91 well it only went through her cornea, so there wouldn't have been some badass scar or anything, though she probably would cry blood through that cornea for a little while...it would have been epic onscreen, but that's just me...
mickelwick 7 months ago
@Cheaptrix91 + They were very careful NOT to show her face while we were seeing 100% reality at the end. Then when the camera turns slowly back to her, we see her face at peace, and she closes her eyes, signifying that through her actions to save her friend, her spirit found peace. IT WAS BEAUTIFULLY DONE. Showing her scared face, bloody and drooling from no longer having a mind would have defeated the whole theme of the movie. Was very smart not to show that.

A unique way to make a movie.
karamazovnew 9 months ago
Interesting review, a lot better than the crap those morons on Rotten tomatoes like to put out. I do think that the storytelling was the weakest part of the movie, since it never really explained the whole dream within a dream approach like Inception did. The ending just confused me- was that a dream or reality? The performances were fine, the action was cool put it seemed out of place and only happened when the girl danced as opposed to whenever she wanted to escape reality. It was good 7/10

Anyway, thank for a fine job in your review.
nerdbird123 10 months ago
And for the record character development and plot structure (what you described at 4:20) are two different things.
boredomreanimated 10 months ago
(cont) Hell, I didn't really feel much for Babydoll by the end, there really wasn't much about her beside her past. Sure, her story was sad but being in a sad situation doesn't make her engaging or relatable as a character. If you want to see emotional attachment, look at McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. I cried when I read the part he was lobotomized, and I cried at the part with Billy. Why? Because they were developed as characters and could be sympathized with because of that.
boredomreanimated 10 months ago
No need for character develop- I'm sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense what so ever. Every story needs some form of character development, that's what moves the story along and helps you relate to characters. The reason people are complaining about the lack of character development is because you COULDN'T be emotionally attached to them. They were barely one dimensional and the two that died only had 1-2 lines outside of the dream sequences. So why should we care what happens to them? -

On paper the concept for the movie was cool, but the problem is that the movie had NO purpose for about 80% of the movie, the burlesque concept was kind of stupid, and her dancing was the dumbest part of all.
The action dream sequences were worth the price of admission, I overall liked the movie, but it is easy to see why someone else would hate it.

i will never understand the zombie-like bandwagon hate for this film. it's no masterpiece but i liked it. was really taken aback though by how sad this film actually was. as someone ailed by depression i too retreat into the fantasies conjured up in my mind to escape the harsh realities of the real world if but a moment. this flick spoke to me and i couldn't stop thinking about it long after it finished.

another thing I get the whole idea, but it was so blank...
And she got Lobotomized, wow...

3/5

Firstly, this soundtrack was BOSS, featuring many fantastic remixes/covers of classics, which is a miracle in itself. 2nd, this reminded me of the novel One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest with the parallel of reality vs imagination, an aspect not present in its film adaptation. 3rd, groundbreaking cinematography! This style of film is truly a rarity/endangered species.

One thing you didn't mention though was the soundtrack...possibly one of my favourite film soundtracks of all time!

..my only wish: no one should have died. at the most, two deaths. and one should have been a villan. no gratification of good vs evil. i know it was a tragidy... but i walkedout of the theature wanting o kill myself. it was TERRIBLE. the ending made me cry and beg WHY THE FUUUUCCCKKKK it would end so terribly? once the train bomb scene ended it just downward spiraled and i should have walked out as soon as 'oeration get the kitchen knife' went down.

"You were born with all the weapons you need, now fight".....
the movie had little spiritual messages like that, and that's part of what made it so great.
