The switching between pickups using the pickup switch is so precise and right on time. He's got that mastered so well, he doesn't seem to even try; he just switches when he wants the sound.

But it's hard, switching pickups that fast.

im thinking of building a 24 fret strat like this whit a HS-3 in the neck position, i cant tell from the video but how much will the 24fret reposition of the pickup alter the sound? the hs-3 is a stacked humbucker so it should suffer less of a loss in soundquality than a real singlecoil, but have anyone here done this?

Kinda late reply but... You will kill the sound for the neck pickup which is vital for strat sounds. If you want the true strat sound from the neck pickup it must be directly under the 24fret harmonic, which ofcourse wont be possible 24 frets.

Yes it is a hum cancelling pickup however in singlecoil size. That does not change anything. The bridge humbucker is always close to the bridge right? Same thing with the neck. And im not saying guitars with 24 frets are shit because the neck pickup doesnt hit the harmonic, you simply get that straty sound when you place neck pickup at that right place. All pickups are sensitive to this issue except some very high output pickups. Hs3 is very low output considering its a humbucker

@infectionsman Ofcourse it is up for your ears to decide whether an inch more to the neck will take anything away. Meaby you find 24 frets more useful for playing than the straty essence from the neck pickup at 24th harmonic. While I think Yngwie would not take this 24fret strat to the grave or to a deserted island, beign so devoted to the original sound of the strat. If you desire the true strat sound from the neck pickup, regretfully 24frets will ruin it. Stick it to the CBS, thats a winner :)
