@Mwen no issues for me. Latency would be the fault of your sound card. If you're running from a DAW (like Cubase, ProTools, Sonar), you definitely need an external unit that can handle all that real-time processing.
@robdown Hey how would you run this to a mixer for live performance as an add on for your kit is it possible with this module withought running it through the computer through midi
How much midi know-how did you need to get this set up and sounding that good? I would love to get this set-up, but midi pad controllers never work for me.
midi-to-usb cables are removing a lot of the mystery behind midi. a majority of stuff today is plug 'n play. i'm pretty midi-savvy, but didn't need to use much of my knowledge to get this working out of the box.
cheers for the video, just wanted to ask, how do you find playing rolls on the Alesis?? I am thinking of getting one, but am worried the reaction/sensitivity of the pads would not be good enough to pick up tight hi hat/snare rolls.
I just got one of these things and I gotta question for you. I'm a drummer in a band and i got this thing so i could put bass drops on it (Roland 808 or 909 sound clip) I understand that you cant put in on the device itself, but I've got adobe 2.0 and i've got the sound saved on that. How do i have it so when im playing live i can simply hit a pad in the middle of a song (without stopping) and have the sound play on the program? if you could respond quickly thatd be great bro :)
i'm not too familiar with Adobe Audition - i know they made a big deal of the new MIDI support in version 3.0...so i'm guessing it's either not in 2.0 or not very good. you would need to load a virtual instrument in adobe, load your sample to the v-instrument, then control the v-instrument with the control pad. again, i don't even know if this is possible with audition 2.0. good luck!!
I guess one thing to do would be making sure your computer is USB 2.0, but the most important thing to check is the audio buffer size of your sound card.
Try to get down to 32-128 samples and you should be OK.
The latency issue is the reason why the Roland SPDS and the AKAI MPC-X followups still have a reason to exist.
The "Alesis Performance Pad" is another possible solution - if you can fit your musical ambition into all the canned sounds.
sup man...the control pad is just a controller. you will need a sound source like a computer or a sound module to use it.
if you want a pad with sounds built in, alesis makes a similar product called the Performance Pad. if you're goin that route, i would check out the Roland SPD series before looking at alesis...just one man's opinion though.
you can really buy any brand pedal for it. i'm using a yamaha kp65 for the kick. you should be able to find a kick and hi-hat trigger on e-bay for decent prices. good luck!!
after a couple weeks of playing it, i still like it. it can take a pretty good beating and adjusting pad parameters is real easy...don't even have to put the sticks down to change settings (buttons are stick friendly). definitely get the external pedals if you're tryin to get a portable electric kit goin.
I'm gonna be moving into a dorm house for college soon, does hitting it make to much noise?

Noticed any issues with latency...? I'd quite like to use this with Ableton to make loops live.

@martelposey Nope, it doesn't have audio out...it's just a controller.

Does it have any other sounds than drum?
Any percussion?
scarsontable 1 year ago
@scarsontable. No sounds at all...it's just a midi controller. The Alesis Performance Pad has built in sounds.

@robdown Ok, thanks :D

does it have sounds on the control pad or do u have to download them?

the Control Pad is a midi controller...no sounds. the Performance Pad comes with sounds built in.

I haven't found anywhere that says it works with garageband. Do you know if it does?
nice drummin btw

I don't see why it wouldn't work with gb...it's just a midi controller so you should be good.

oh ok thanks. :)

It's not as responsive as a roland mesh pad, but most of your sensitivity will be in your software as opposed to the controller itself.

Pretty nice

there are dedicated inputs for kick and hi hats, but you need to buy them separately.

Thanks can you put up some more clips of your playing?

can you do bass drops on the control pad??
sjc93patd 3 years ago
i dunno what you really mean by bass drop, but it's a midi controller so it can pretty much do anything you program it to do.
robdown 3 years ago
what i meant to say was can u save your own sounds on it?
sjc93patd 3 years ago
Not on the actually unit. But on the software it's connected to, yes.

What about delay from hit to sound via USB?
I got that problem, but don't know if it is my computer who's slow.
tvinter 3 years ago
latency (delay) would be your soundcard's fault. you need to upgrade your soundcard if you really want to record or play with this in real time.

Do you know what the model numbers are for the pedals? I definitely think that is a smart idea...
Thanks for your feedback! I need to get something like this... Now I just need the cash! Isn't that always the issue?
