  • Could you use beer? We don't drink coke in our house.

  • @Chewbuckable yes, that was actually the original idea. It works great. let me know what you think.

  • @cookingfordads LMAO I didn't think you would comment on that.

  • @cookingfordads DOES THIS WORK FOR BURGERS?????? RESPOND SOON

  • @ZombieKillaBossMan The rub will, I don't know about marinating the burgers. if you try it let me know. good luck :-)

  • @cookingfordads i did both it worked it was actually pretty good. HAd that and homemade salsa last night.

  • where are you from ? :)

  • @jobescooking Minnesota and Pennsylvania, why?

  • @cookingfordads i like your accent :)

  • He shudnt hav cut it. It will run the juices anyways. Use a pokin stick. Instd. Noob. Hehe

  • woohoo Hamlet quoting! :)

Imma have to give this a try it looks yummy :)

  • Do you know a sauce that goes well with this?

  • Thank you for the recipe

  • NO Coke

  • Nice video

  • im from MN too. have you every made root beer ham?? pop can make meat taste so much better. thanks for the video. im going to have to try this

  • man coke is disgusting

  • @kenndiata so why watch the video?

  • No sense letting it rest if you're going to cut it in half beforehand.

  • Love your shows .. you explain things so easy. Thanks for sharing your talent :)

  • "I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate"

  • 5:11

  • Wow wtf, never heard or seen anyone do this with coke O.o I wanna try it :D

  • would this work with chicken?

  • Idk I find him a little sexy....

  • you mean cooking for fags :) ahh man i need a hobby...

  • If the steak is really good you only need salt and pepper.

  • that looks awesome

  • can this be done with pork chops? we don't eat beef in my house :(

  • @yellowpowah It should work great, prok, of course, tastes different from beef, but it should still be wonderful. Let me know how it goes.

  • @cookingfordads I definitely will! Thank you so much, I really enjoy your channel :)

  • @yellowpowah I have marinated pork chops in beer and they came out great! never tried coke before, and I might add I have a charcoal grill instead of a gas one like this guy...

I used yuengling one time and the next I used miller high life, I liked the taste of the ones marinated in yuengling better so if you use beer be mindful different beers will yield different tastes. Don't use cheap beer like keystone light and things along that same line. Those beers are like water...

  • @yellowpowah why? for most people thay wont eat pork but thay will eat beef.

  • @gary77777778888888 when my dad was a young adult, there was a big mad cow scare, so he stopped eating beef, and then never started again. So we've never eaten it at my house really. the smell of cooking beef smells really gross to me too :P

  • @yellowpowah Ow. But you have had it thow right?

  • @gary77777778888888 haha ya, a few months back my friends made me try a hamburger. it was pretty good

  • @yellowpowah Ribs and steak are good to. Have you eaten venison or mutten? you got to have eaten beef jerky some are good and some arent all that great.

  • @gary77777778888888 haha, naw, I've just had the burger. I had moose chili once? it was quite good. I wouldn't be opposed to trying that stuff, I just refrain from because of habit :P Plus, I'm a university student, so I buy whatever is cheap :P

  • very nice!

  • Why did u ruin a perfectly fine coke with onion

why not just drink it and eat the beef normaly?

    btw Nice recipe ^^

  • Comment removed

  • could u fry the steak r would it take frm it

  • SUPER YUM

  • Dude don't cut your steak like that. Why even let it rest after u cut it and then poked it. Great vid up to that part. Then u sucked ass. People don't do that practice and learn how to cook it to desired duness

  • Meat cooks better on wood grill better with more aroma than gas grills.

  • @Echofromsomewere1 we'llhave to do a taste test someday. Gas is so immediate and easy, it's hard to beat.

  • Love your enthusiasm, dude. C'mon down to TN and I'll show you some ribs to return the favor...

    Bon apetit!

  • This was great! Thanks.

  • We have the same grill and our ignition is burned out too.

If you're concerned with letting the steak rest, that cut will let the juices bleed out. I'd recommend using a meat thermometer instead.

  • what happened to the soda and onions?

  • @stoicman31 I don't use them, but some people have cooked them up and used them as a sauce.

  • if you use sprit it cleans the grill better

  • @jc37601 cool

  • yummy i wish my dad cooked me tht:D

  • hi

would it still taste good without the onion powder?

  • Should i try this with Dr.Pepper??

  • @strtvndl3 i've heard ot that but never tried it, let me know how it tastes

  • @cookingfordads I'm not sure, I don't recommend it.

  • @strtvndl3 I've never tried it but I've heard of people doing it.

  • Making this right now! :D

  • your hot.

  • Im shocked at how many hits you have received. I have a Beer marinated steak video up and the hits are coming on slow. No offense but my video has far more actual cooking technique, and as yours is so simple its destroys mine in views. Maybe I should not use so much technique? I didnt think a chimichurri was so complex. what do u suggest for views?

  • @DirectSideEffect you are a hater....stop hatin.

  • people always think a coke marinade would taste bad but it's really good especially with pork

  • dude... you are the king of food! thx for the awesom tips and advices.

  • @lottopotti4 you are much too kind. thanks, cook well.

  • o maaan o man. This recipe blew my friends away.

I didn't have onion so I just used coke to marinate over a day on my porterhouse steak. It meeellllts in your mouth. The rub was really good too! I put in extra tbs paprika to add more of that taste. and hmmmmm delicious. Thx it was a hit for me and my friends!

  • @bboyzero So glad you enjoyed it. next time take a picture of your group and the food and send it to me!

  • hey cookingfordads are you like a chef or do you just make your own recipes up?

  • @klayman2 I am not a chef, but I do like to make up my own recipes. Sometimes, I'm inspired by something I've read, but most of it comes just from walking around the grocery store.

  • COOK WELL IT IS WORTH IT!

  • he is super gay

  • coke marinade? sounds discusting, sounds american.

  • @nibbel94 Actually coke has sodium, citric acid, and sugar which is what most marinades contain. You need sodium or salt for flavor, some kind of acid to break down the muscle so it's tender and other flavors. NOTE: Coke is high in sugar so if you put it on the grill basted in the marinade minus the rub and burn the sugar it will taste bitter.

  • @nibbel94 it's actually quite good.

  • I use this recipe but I use real steak rub instead of that ghetto mix, and don't leave it overnight with coke because it will eat that puppy!!! 3 hours tops rob! ^_^

  • @chimmych0la Ghetto mix? It rocks, I just used it on ribs and it was really good.

  • @cookingfordads watched almost all your videos rob you are the man, great chef you are thanks for all the great recipes.....

  • @chimmych0la thanks so much. I appreciate it.

  • @chimmych0la What hell are you talking about....Ghetto Rub?? You're "real steak rub" is probably a company that did the same exact thing as Rob, but put their label on it and charged suckers like you a premium price. Most Restaurants and great chefs usually make their own rubs!!

  • In a freezer bag/ziplock: Beer (1/4 to 3/4 of a can, depends on how tough the meat is)+Worcestershire+black pepper+granuled garlic+cayenne pepper+ground dried rosemary+olive oil. Last, add your steaks.

Let sit in the fridge for at least 1.5hrs (pref. overnight).

Take the whole package out of the fridge and let sit on the counter-top just long enough to bring the meat to room temperature, all the way through (feel it through the plastic). Drain & immediately cook and serve with or w/o onions.

  • @rkmugen Sounds great, thanks for sharing.

  • Can you use diet coke?

  • @Xialiet I wouldn't, it's not a big source of calories and diet has so many more chemicals that may act differently under extreme heat. But do make it with normal coke and send me the pick. :-)

  • putting on kabob ? lool

  • NEVER EVER EVER STAB, CUT, your steak...

  • WOW I didn't know how to operate or clean a grill before. Oh Boy! Thanks cookingfordads :D

  • u ever though of adding ketchup or chili ketcup to rub to make it a more barbecu type rub

  • mmmmmmmmmm.. it tastes so PERFECT!

  • who ever made this recipe you need to see a doctor right now

  • @levikfc actually, I'm alive and well.

  • the maker of the film is sadly no longer with use due to food poisoning

  • i tried it with coke, but try using dr pepper its gives it a sweeter taste. and i also added onions and garlic together and gave it a very nice flavor also, but you have to let it set overnight

  • @dollardraw did you take a pic?

  • is it ok if i use garlic instead of onions i think itll add some taste

  • @player549 Sure, try it and let me know how it goes, or even better take a photo and send it to me.

  • lol u call ur food puppies nice

  • very nice lol borat.........

  • Add sugar to savoury food is epic fail

MSG don't make things sweeter. MSG removes the saliva coating on your tongue which intensifies favour; thats why MSG makes you thirsty.

  • What does the coke make the steak taste like?

    Like coke? Haha.

I'm scared of wasting a steak on it.

  • @BrittanyIsWay2Cool It adds a complex sweetness, trust me, you won't waste a steak on it. This really tastes good.

  • Sprite is normally used to marinade meats for barbeque grilling

  • love it

  • just tried this out today. It was brilliant

thanks. Keep up the good work.

  • very nice...

  • i cant watch these videos no more i get too hungry when i watch

  • -50 here so i guess i am going to do this in a frying pan :)

  • Wow, how far north are you, I'm in MN and it's a balmy 9 today.

  • saskatchewan so not allot farther than you but with the windchill it's stupid cold.

My steak turned out pretty good for the 1st time i used a rub though, I didn't have the exact right stuff so just used random stuff

  • next time take a photo and send it to me.

  • canada -7!!! woot woot!! wait, no that's celcius.... i have no idea what that is in fahrenheit

  • The coke I assumed, I can switch with beer. What's a good replacement for brown sugar? My dad's a diabetic so, I can't really use the sugar, can I just omit it or is there a great replacement?

  • You can probably use honey or Splenda.

  • how do the juices re distribute if you already cut it

  • the steak dosen't disappear in the coke??

  • urban myth :-)

  • when you were a kid and your dad smacked your ass what did you do?..tensed up right?..then later you relaxed right?..well apply that to steak and thats exactly what happens when that steak hits the heat..enjoy! btw dont sit on the BBQ!

  • actually, I think I cried

  • I added your video to my favorites, but I have to say, it hurt a little when I saw you cut into that steak before resting it. I'll definitely try this recipe though.

  • sorry, didn't mean to hurt. It's just the way 90 of people actually test. i wanted to give them permission.

  • SUPER!

  • Can I have the steak in coke for too long? as in 24 hours?

  • That should be fine, but no longer. 2-8 hours is better

  • I forgot to mention in my comments (two posts below) that I also added Paprika to my recipe. :)

  • Thanks so much for the report. Next time take a photo and send it to me. How was it?

Paprika is in the original recipe BTW.

So glad you had fun. cook well.

  • @ cookingfordads

Thank you sooo much for taking the time outta your day to post this recipe for us. I may have altered some (or most) of the ingredients but your idea for using coke and brown sugar was a GREAT one. I have also gone ahead and subscribed to your youtube channel. I will be sharing your coke steak recipe with my friends. :)

  • I made a couple of changes to the recipe. This is how my recipe went.

    Soaked steak in

    Coca Cola AND Schlitz Beer

    Brown Sugar

    Mrs. Dash Onion & Herb

    Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy

    Weber Grill Creations Smokey Mesquite

5th Season Ground Red Pepper (Cayenne Pepper)

The Spice Hunter - Fresh At Hand Onion Mix (contains red onions, white onions, shallots, and chives)

and last ingredient but not least.. a touch of salt.

  • just made this recipe. used the coke marinade, chicken instead of steak, and chili powder instead of paprika. cooked it in a frying pan, then drained the liquid from the marinade and sauteed the leftover onions along with some tomatoes in the pan drippings. cooked 2 thighs, one just ate and the other i'm saving for fajitas later in the week. SO MUCH FLAVOR, and SO easy! thanks for making me feel like a real cook instead of a college kid making eggs for the millionth time.

  • can normal sugar be used instead of brown sugar? (don't have any brown sugar) I already have the steak and the onions in the beer. i'll be cooking it up in about 3 hours.

  • I think so, i've never tried it so let me know. Should be fine, maybe just use a little less. Oh, and send me a pic of it when it's made. I'll post it. thanks

  • okay thanks :) but how do i send a photo to youtube? I know we can upload video, but my cam takes horrible video, especially at night in the house (the lighting is way too low).

  • as a clueless college kid on a tight budget, i LOVE your videos! definitely have to give this one a try sometime.

  • You know Rob, I think the reason I like your show so much is the fact you give people great advice that they might not otherwise know.

The little tip about the frying pan is one thing. In fact, I find something like a cast iron skillet will cook a steak better than the grill because you seer the meat across the whole surface, rather than just some parts like on a grill.

Keep up the good work Rob.

  • Looks great! Guy looks like Tampa Bay coach John Gruden.

  • wow that would taste great!!

  • I'm sure taste perfect.u did Perfect!

  • Awesome simple idea! I'm making this this weekend with a London Broil. One minor note though, You should never cut into a steak to see if it's done, nor should you use a fork to take it off the grill. You'll lose valuable juices that way. You gotta touch it to see how well it's done, and let it rest afterwards to let the juices come together! Thanks for a great idea!

  • dude that steak looks good

  • i don't know why they alwyas go "mmmm" afterwards

they wouldn't have made it if it wasn't eatable....besides, even if it tasted like crap they'd still go 'mm'

  • You are right, it's a conundrum. I actually did a take on the Asiany Peanut Butter Steak where I spit it out and gagged but we decided against it. I guess it's just part of the genre. Thanks for watching.

PS - It actually does taste really good.

  • haha! i love this one! i will make my super marinated steak with my boyfriend, and he will love it for sure! yummy puppy!

  • good luck and send me a picture of it.

  • ya leave this guy alone, you all are just mad that you cant make a steak ass bad ass as this guy.

  • It is rather spicy. I'm sorry, I mean this puppy is rather spicy!

  • what with him saying puppy?

  • come on guys leave him alone, he is just posting how to make simple but tasty food, i liked this one but is better with beer :-)

  • fed alexus boby

  • ok puppy stfu faggot

  • least he can cook, dont get jelous.. you fuckin prick

  • this is vary repeated like echo ?

  • Huh, its so simple looking. I'm gonna have to try it.

  • "Super yum?" God, I hate it when people speak in hyperbole. "Super!" "Uber" or my personal most loathsome phrase "super uber." People are getting dumber by the day.

  • Cooked it yesterday for a bunch of people and ended up being a big hit. I marinated 3 steaks with Corona Lite for 5 Hours, and 4 Steaks with Yuengling (dark lager) i think the Rub itself was more of a hit than the marinated steak part. But all-in-all, great recipe.

  • you suck with a chef knife how old are you

  • I've tried both beer and cola and they are amazing. I'm atually cooking them right now.

  • I Tried this today and I LOVED IT!!! Soooo Good =)

  • Wow, just made this...I'm eating while I post this comment.

    AMAZING!!!

I used a NY Strip..can't wait to make some of your other stuff!

BTW, you should marinate the steak for a day if you can!

  • agreed, but I like to show that it works even if you don't have a lot of time.

  • Def gonna try it since I am a fan of the coke chicken,

  • Don't cut the steak to see if its done. Use the push test. You can look up the push test on the internet. Cutting the steak will leave a big cut for the juices to run out. The result being a dryer steak. Also you can try an instant read thermometer which only leaves a small hole instead of a large cut.

  • Don't be scared to try it. I had it for superbowl weekend and I loved it. A few things the rub makes it a little spicy witch isn't bad. Also it has little sweetness which makes it taste good. I recomend using a New York Strip. Over all it's very good so try it.

  • Rob, I like to watch you cooking. Did you try the coke with onion, garlic, salt and pepper marinate with chicken wing. It is great also. The coke substitute the sugar (it has sugar in it) and I go heavy on garlic.

  • Gonna try it out! Quite excited actually! Lets hope its "Super Yum"

  • Superrr ... :s

  • ran out of propane on my grill so cooked them on the stove and they turned out AWESOME thanks

  • gonna try this tonight thanks!!!

  • THERE NOT PUUPIES YOU IDIOT

  • There not puupies! Rats.

  • eating puppies is cruel

  • that is disgusting :p...

These Americans don't know how to make a great food

  • lovin this video!! leave me a comment

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TALK TO ME sb

  • That dish looks good, but it would look great if it had a little green in it.

  • just rocked this marinade, but did half garlic powder and half onion powder instead of all onion. Really delicious stuff.
