  • so nice, congratulations!

  • Hi Maiana, this is a very wonderful

  • WHAT IS TYLOS

  • me and my best friend are only 13 and 14 and we are making our first topsy turvy cake on friday and we are doing a under the sea themed cake and we are so excited! and we love your cake! yayyyy

  • You have amazing talent I hope to be this good one day! right now fondant scarews me! lol! thank you for showing me the possibilities of working with fondant!! Sweet!

  • oh my god i wish i had that cake for my sons 1st b-day...u r truly talented

  • Hi Mayen, you are awesome, Thank you so much for all your tutorials. I took cake decorating classes, but you have tough me many tricks and the best of all is that you don't charge anything for your teaching. Could you please keep posting your beautiful cakes. God bless your for all you do

  • You mention that if you use the candy molds correctly they can be used - how do you do it? I find that the gumpaste gets stuck in there and doesnt' come out well?

  • This is a wonderful cake! I have to make an ocean themed cake on Friday for a friend's son's 1st birthday and was trying to get ideas. I saw the Finding Nemo cake that Debbie Brown made so I see the ideas you incorporated from that.

But question, how did you get the purple coral to stand upright? Did you use toothpicks? Or did you just 'glue' them to the side of the cake? I wanted to try and incorporate that into my cake. Thanks!

  • THANKS. i had to cut a bit into the cake to anchor it in. i did not use toothpicks for the purple coral... if it became wobbly at a point, i put a shell on the back to steady it.

  • Love it ..it is soooo cute !! Great Job !!

  • ADORABLE!!!!

  • wow! You are really talented! love it!

  • Beatiful!!!!

  • I love this cake! This is my son's favorite baby einstein dvd! I would love to order from you. Do you have a website? Where are u based out of?

  • Hi Mayen, I love looking at your videos. You are extremely talented. I am about to make a cake for a sweet 16 b'day with a Hawaiin theme. I want to make a dancing girl w/grass skirt but I am terrible at the modeling. Do you use all gum paste or mixed to do your figures? What's the fifference between tylos and gum text powder? I have always used gum tex never found tylos.

    Thanks.

  • So are all the cute things on the cake dry? How are they applied to a moist fondant cake? No one eats the pieces even if they are edible, right?

  • hello mayen! thank you for your inspiring videos!! you are very talented! quick question... where did you get the #1 candle? and what kind of box do you use to transport your cakes? also, where do you get tylose powder?

  • THANKS! I got the candle from a cake shop-- i cant find that in Giant's or any other grocery. They come in diff colors per candle too. when i go back there, I'll look up the name for you. The boxes I use are just regular box cakes. I cant find anything big enough to hold my cakes. so I cling wrap the cakes too. Tylose powder -- i get it from a local cake supplier or online at sugarcraft or globalsugarart.

  • This cake is nice 3220.3..

  • treasure box and candle holder at the same time!! makes it really unique!

  • fantastic! i am actually working on one this weekend. a small one though. GREAT job!

  • How do you transport something like that???

  • i wrap it first with cling wrap... and then when placed in the box ... it is transported and placed on the floor of the vehicle..not on the seat. i insist that someone should always be there to watch over it when being transported

  • lol----- no the octopus is not scary at all it's really cute

  • so cute!

  • très beau ! bravo !

  • I just discovered your videos today. I love them! You're fantastic!

  • Great cake my fren..

  • Mayen, how you ever tried to make a tree from gumpaste? I'm trying to make one to put beside the lady that I made from Lorraines tuturiol, I think it will add a nice feature to the setting. Diane

  • I just love your videos! I have one question...How much Tylose do you add to the 5 pounds of Wilton to make it into gum paste? I spend way to much on gum paste and I'm not good enough yet to justify the cost LOL! :) Thanks

  • the regular ratio is 1 tsp per pound-- but you gotta test it too ... so dont add too much and let it stand for an hour and test if it needs more. get a coupon from michaels and the 20 bucks worth of fondant becomes 12... instead of buying a 5 lb gumpaste tub.

  • I love it Mayen. That octopus is gorgeous. Also, I really love those fish - the colouring is really, really good.

  • hi can u pls pls pls show me some videos on how can i make my own gum paste and fondant pls pls

  • click on my channel and look at the videos-- i have a tutorial there on how to make fondant

  • hi do you make your own fondant and gum paste,,,can u please sshow me some videos on how to make it

    pls pls pls,

  • ADORABLE!! Keep em coming! :)

  • your cakes are just brilliant!

  • ooh... this is really gd... funny how it's edible.. lol

  • OH this is SOO AWESOME!!!! I just got started into making fondant cakes... and my goal is to make my son's Baby Einstein Theme cake in April.... I will definately be practicing making the turtle and octopus... Thanks so much for posting this! I couldnt seem to find any fondant baby einstein characters to get ideas before I found yours!!

  • beautiful..!!! like it very much...

  • Loving it Mayen! Yes I found that with the homemade fondant, I wait over night and when I used it it was hard, but I eneded up sticking some of it in the mircrowave for about 10-15 seconds and volia! It was soft and WORKABLE again!!

  • Like always .... wonderful job! soon i'll do my fisrt cake . You inspire me : )

  • Hello! AWESOME CAKE! It gives me the Little Mermaid kinda feeling. :) Have a question. What's the difference between gum paste and fondant?

  • gumpaste is more of a modelling paste--better in making figures, hold its shape better and dries faster-- but still essentially --it is sugar based. fondant is the same but does not have the 'gum' component of gumpaste and is more 'eatable' . gumpaste dries rock hard -- while fondant will take time before it does. i have a video on my channel on this if you want to check it out. Thanks!

  • This is so~ cute! It looks VERY professional and the treasure box that holds the candle is darling!!

  • I love this cake, it's beautiful!! You did a wonderful job, I'll probably be making something similar soon for my daughters bday :)

  • Thanks !!! Cant wait to see it !!!

  • I love how the dusts give the fish, leaves and starfish depth! I've been wanting to try the color mist. I think you did an awesome job on this cake! Was the underwater scene a request or was it your idea? I love it!

  • The baby was fond of the baby neptune dvd, so the mom requested the turtle and octopus and pretty much said-- surprise me with the design ... when she saw the cake, she was very pleased with it :)

  • WOW! This cake is amazing! I love this cake! I keep watching these videos and I am going to have to try and do this myself. :)

  • I love the detail in all your cakes. I'm amazed you have enough time to make the MM fondant and use it the same day to cover the cake. Love the treasure chest too :)

  • It's actually easy--now that I have gotten to know the material better--so I time myself and I make sure I use it within my magic time-- bec when you really get down to the bottom line, it tastes better--and is less expensive. It needs a bit of practice and skill--but anyone can do it. BUT I guess the bigger bottom line is--- that's some extra bucks I can spend on shoes haha :)

  • Mayen,THANK YOU for making this beautiful cake for my son,it made his first birthday really special, you should have seen the "ooohs and ahhhs and WOWS" of all the guests :) Nobody wants to cut it!!!!It's so beautiful and it tastes even better,my husband really likes it as well-will never forget his smile when he saw it-really WORTH IT!!!!THANKS!!!!

  • ooohhh---nothing takes the cake better than this comment! 'cause it comes from David's MOM! Thanks for trusting me to make his cake ... and I am super happy that the kids and the whole family liked it as well. It was well worth the nights i worked to make it :)

  • Beautifulllll!!!!. I love it, I love the figures, the colors, everything. I saw your videos of making figures, I have to try

  • Yey-- that's what got me started-- I kept watching others do it and then one day I told myself--I HAD to try or else I wont be able to sleep anymore :) Thanks--and I encourage you to cross the line and jump in!

  • OH wow mayen this cake is amazing :) i loooove it :) the turtle with snorkel made me LOL hes so sweet! i love Alll your cakes and love watching your videos :) :) im itching to try something but no one wants cakes at the minute *Boo hoo lol*

once again, amazing cake! love it! x

  • soooo love it!!

  • how fantastic! you never seize to amaze me! i love your page!

  • another beautiful cake!!!!! great job!!

  • Awesome job once again Mayen! The cake is GORGEOUS! I love everything about it! I actually bursted out with joy when I saw your little treasure chest open up an double as a candle holder! You're a genius! All your gumpaste figures are perfect! Now you've given me the courage to actually try the MM fondant... You're right, it is WAY cheaper... Definitely gonna turn all of my Wilton fondant I've been saving into gumpaste because the taste is just awful! Love it Mayen! :)

  • I just posted a comment I'm not sure if you got it.

  • You did a fantastic job. I love how you arranged them. The corals are just amazing! The treasure chest was an excellent idea for it to open. I think is is one innovative cake.

Oh and I actually went to michaels today looking for a 5 pound gumpaste and I couldn't find any. I FORGOT that you meant fondant. I guess I will have to go back tomorrow. =]

  • This is cake is beautiful!

  • Another fantastic job!!

  • u are AMAZING... i cant say any other word

  • ur too sweet! thanks !

  • your cakes are really beautiful. i wish i had your creative and artistic talent.

  • thank you :) i didn't have a grain of art while growing up-- i was surprised when my work came out nice...so you really never know till you give it a shot -- keep me posted ok !

  • Wonderful cake Mayen! And your octopus is super cute, not scary at all!!! :)

  • hello mayen..lovvvvvvvvvve the turtle, so cute..and everything else is just awesomely made..you can really save that much by making your own MM fondant? can you pls share the recipe with us, pls mayen?

  • Thanks! i have the recipe and tutorial on my page.

  • Lovely work as always. Maybe you should try the amazing mold putty that they sell at michel's craft store it is way cheaper than the silicone molds and they can be reuse over and over again. It is a saving tip :)

  • How are the fish adhering to the side?

  • i used a toothpick, and some fondant glue.

  • how much buttercream do you put on your cakes before you put the fondant on?

because whenever I put my fondant on the icing sometimes comes out the bottom :/

but your cake looks amazing! I hope I get as good as you one day :D

  • It depends-- if I need the cake to have crisp edges-like a square cake--i dont use that much icing after the crumb coat...for others, i use a moderate amount, not too much... when u put the fondant on the cake, has the icing crusted already? im trying to think of why the icing would come out of the bottom... or it could also be because of handling and the icing could be manually pushed down-- let's try to troubleshoot that...

  • Wonderful cake! You are very good at modelling. You should make some more tutorials :)

  • Thank you :) i will try to do some more:)

  • very cute!!!! i was just wondering i do not like using fondant or gumpaste. can i use marizapan or modeling clay instead?? i love the design. i might use this for my cousin's first birthday. except make some little things pink for a girl.

  • Thanks-- I believe you can use marzipan... i wouldnt know how it reacts to the gel color since i havent used it before, but i have seen a couple of marzipan figures and they look just like this one.

  • simply ADORABLE. LOVE the colors. the turtle is my fave, he's got such personality!

  • Thanks Mimzy! My first goal in making the figures-- is to not make them look scary haha... if they have personality , that is a bonus i get :)

  • I love your work! All of these cakes are inspiring me to try one of my own.

  • Brilliant! How did you get the cakes to be rounded like that??

    Tammy xx

  • I carved it on its sides... it's actually just two tiers but different sized layers. I use an electric knife when i carve -- to minimize the damage to the cake. If the cake's shape needs to be sculpted more, Id use a pound cake recipe. This one uses regular sponge cake recipes-- chocolate and yellow.
