i think pc is better cause you CAN CUSTOMIZE THEM NOT LIKE MAC THAT ARE STILL PRETTY AWESOME BUT UR STUCK WITH WHATEVER WHANT YOU TO HAVE AND PC ARE CHEAPER AND SOME LOOK EVEN BETTER THAN MACS
@PoliticalHell as i said windows is getting better at it windows is not the worst os and you can fun in it to i am not just going to always say mac os x is the best i will Probably always buy a mac just because i can dual boot if one get better than the other if windows be come better than mac os and i say mac os because there will not always be mac os 10 i will be mac os 11 soon so but if windows does become better than mac i can always dual boot
@PoliticalHell ok you are right about that but what i'm saying is that on windows more than once when i went to a site a file would download and than run without me doing any thing windows is getting better at that but Mac os x will not download and run something without you saying yes it can run and yes i was a fanboy for windows to but that was before a got a mac
@JLawsonPHill Hmm, I honestly can't say that has ever happened to me. Were you using Internet Explorer? That thing sucks... I've been using Chrome for the past year, before that Firefox, it always asks before downloading anything. Windows asks before running any installation too, unless it's a console exe, where running it as administrator will allow it to bypass security. I know Mac is safer, it's just not that insecure being on Windows.
@PoliticalHell i had a pc before this and it came with windows 7 and yes i did get nfected THAT easy i hate pc but if you or someone else likes PC that's fine it's what makes you happy not what is better or worst everybody has there Opinion ok sorry if i mad you mad
i had a pc before this and it came with windows 7 and yes i did get nfected THAT easy i hate pc but if you or someone else likes PC that's fine it's what makes you happy not what is better or worst everybody has there Opinion ok sorry if i mad you mad
ok what you don,t get is that in a mac your getting to computer in one you can have windows on your mac to you can not dual boot mac os x and windows on a pc can you at least not legally your so stupid your also getting mac os x you don,t have to get a antivirus on a mac if you even go in on to a web site on a pc you can get a virus lol mac will always be better than pc sorry
@JLawsonPHill The problem with your "argument" is that the Windows side doesn't need OS X on the machine for any reason. Its software libraries are enough to keep anyone with it... actually, Microsoft deliberately built a monopoly around it to lock down users even if they don't want to use Windows. OS X may or may not accomodate everyone, so having access to Windows is kind of a key feature. As for the virus thing, you're an idiot... do some research, Windows doesn't get infected THAT easy.
@JLawsonPHill I'm not mad, it just annoys me when people say Windows gets a virus the moment you connect to the internet. It doesn't. I NEVER got a virus since I've been using Windows for the past 15 years. If I can do it virus-free, you can do it. Unless you download porn or some weird apps, or go to obviously shady sites, you won't get a virus. Even then, most of the time a free antivirus will catch it.
If you like OS X more, that's fine, but you're simply spreading fear and lies of windows.
@PoliticalHell i just switched to mac and I'm way happier. Ive had 3 pc in the past and they've all gotten viruses and i just used it for regular things... the virus on my last one was so bad that i couldn't even open up the antivirus scan, it would redirect me. So i bought a mac looked up the virus and it told me i had to buy a special tool just to get rid of it..... so to me PC's have a terrible reputation of getting viruses.
@steven1lee Well no offense, but you did something very stupid to get such a virus. Like I said countless times, if I can use a Windows computer without getting any viruses in the past 13 years, so can you.
@PoliticalHellwow i don't think you get the point. Anybody can avoid viruses by checking everything they open. but why would you rather do that when you could just buy a mac.
And sorry i didn't know there were levels of hardness to getting viruses.
mac's are not too expensive, why do all you people say that? i mean, sure they are expensive, but only when you compare it to all those crappy, cheap pc's!
@CrazyycclowN Because when compared to any PC of the same class and build quality, you're still going to have hundreds of dollars just sitting on the brand name. Take the Macbook Pro, and go compare it to, for example, the HP Envy. They're very similar computers, yet the HP gives you more hardware for a cheaper price.
I find this to be the case with pretty much any Mac. There's always a cheaper PC version.
the hp laptop was cheaper by a few hundred bucks, but however, it has no mag safe power adapter, and it is made out of plastic, the mac book pro is unibody aluminum. You get what few extra hundred buck's you payed for.
To all the people saying windows 7 hangs. My hp laptop rarely hangs with windows 7 and I never restart. Using mac osx I get the spindle at least once everytime I use it. The hp is far superior in speed to even the desktop macs I use. The macbook pro equivalent was double the price and the hardware was still worse. Apple is bullshit. They only make software for their own hardware. Therefore they can charge whatever they want and the uninformed and fanboys always want the latest apple product.
Ok so the hp laptop was cheaper... i'd rather pay the premium for os x and have a laptop with better build quality. HP laptops suck in terms of build quality. Their trackpads are awful, and their keyboards are bland and void of feeling or responsiveness. To each it's own, i suppose.
You can't compare ón hardware .. You need to look at the system, what it can do. The design and more thing. I can see the deal. But still I go for the Mac
The reason macs have lower specs is because they don't require as many resources to run. I have a pc with windows 7 right now that is pretty good for the price. It has been in repair once, it crashes sometimes, and my iPod won't sync with it.
I love it, but sometimes it drives me up the wall. A mac would be cool to get, but they're too expensive.
Wow. I saw somebody commenting on "how much money pc users spend on antivirus" and sorta facepalmed.
Now I'm seeing more similar comments on this video, and I want to cry.
How god damn stupid do you have to be to not know of all the free antivirus software out there?
On that note, macs don't get viruses because nobody gives two shits about mac users. If people started doing IMPORTANT things on macs, the viruses would follow them ;) (And they would be fucked, because macs have NO protection.)
Thats exactly why i got one it does most of the thing i want it to but i don't have to waste money on that anti virus software because the system protects its self
Idk.... im tired of ppl saying its a worthless piece of shit.. my apple i have cost the same amount of money as a dell i had for 3 years and that one shit its pants.... it still works its just that the battery in it doesn't hold a charge and the power adapter doesn't work unless you sit there for 30 mins and toy around with the damn thin until the green light comes on and the computer has a small hard drive and processor.
How stupid are people Any viruses found on a mac would be dealt with anti virus software same as done on a windows based computer yes macs do get viruses but just fewer
oh that free anti virus software is most likely spy ware
@ShaunDreclin Ha, i think that movie you went to watch was an important thing done on a mac. That poster you drive by is an important thing done on a mac, and design wise, this website is an important thing done on yet again a MAC. 30 million people use macs, it aint a small percentage yet there sitn one virus,.
Movies are still mostly filmed in Film, so Macs have no influence there. CGI is usually done on server farms running Linux.
Posters I don't know, but rest assured that one doesn't need a Mac to run Photoshop or make a website. While you're right that many professionals use Macs for design, it can be done just as well on a PC.
@PoliticalHell Yes and by opening all the adobe Programmes at one shot. Bet that your netbook could hang and to be fair, you have to use a Asus 1000 netbook because most of us have that model
Windows is still stuck in the past i use Windows 7 its crap against Ubuntu 9.10 and this is free this runs faster on a net book than any windows os crap
," macs don't get viruses because nobody gives two shits about mac users" yeah macs give windows users viruses hahahaha
I disagree..... unless your referring to windows 7 then i don't know.... but if your talking about windows vista and xp then i disagree because vista is a processor clogger from hell to crash the computer as fast as it possibly can..... i don't know how many times the fucker blue screened on me for no reason...
What kind of a computer are you using? I had 2 computers with Vista (one core2 duo, one core2 quad), and I haven't got a single blue screen, ever. Not making that up.
Its a dell inspiron e1505 intel core duo.... and i maxed out the ram to 2gb and the processor is really small i think its like 1.98 which this new apple i have has a core 2 duo 2.26 and it does okay until i start doing thing like opening emails the size of alaska and or pages documanet
Well I've been hearing more complaints then anything about Vista. I didn't like it either, even Windows 7 still bothers me in some aspects, but like I said I never had that problem since XP. Who knows.
I wanna get a Macbook, though, for their awesome battery life. Would help a ton in classes.
I would never refer to vista but XP and 7 are both stable. If you are getting a blue screen there is something you installed that your ram is disagreeing with
Any day of the week. Not only do i bet you that i can do it but to top you off, I ran 5 games at once in window mode so i could control them at once. with frame rate of 60+ games were, call of duty MW, WoW, bioshock , brothers in arms , batman AA. Your mac is not only inferior but multicaming if for hippies and porn stars.
MAC Sells software, their OS's are tailored to use full advantage of the hardware, so they sale you something that works fine as it is, all they use those little MACs for its music, pix, and youtube... my PSP can do that! try running a pro video editing program, or 3d modeler, with PC if you are smart you will know how to tailor your computer your way. if you try to crank up the overdrive on mac it'll die on you! the tech at mac store will tell you that you need a desktop that goes for 3k more.
@Oscarstein Ha! You do know that macs are pretty much the standard for graphics and video editing (whether it be adobe or final cut), something much more then your psp can do
of course!! MAC is the standard, i do not argue the fact that Mac is a high end product, what im trying to do here is prove that the average consumer pays twice as much for a computer with low specs thinking that he/she is buying cutting edge tech, and in the end PC is cheaper and as effective if you know how to use it, of course if I had $350M for a production the first thing on my list would be 8 MAC's with its own techs in case they go down, since im not a producer I have a PC. =)
if the OS is such a big deal, you can always switch to linux for free. Mac and linux are both based off Unix. Then you'll have better hardware and equal software. Or you can get 7 cause its pretty classy.
And then I facepalm myself because I remember that PCs actually DON'T crash ever since I stopped using XP, and PCs DON'T get viruses when you run Microsoft's FREE antivirus. And then I realize, once again, that the Macbook, running an OS with a bug that can delete all of my files from the hard drive, is not as great as it's made out to be, so I go buy that PC again.
I think its just you being defensive cause you have a shitty PC and cant even afford a macbook pro but if you could you would get one ahahaha. Antivirus cant save you from trojan horses retard
Ahahahahaha you're so funny! Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I spent more on my PC then a piece of shit Macbook Pro would cost, you fucktard?
Do you even know what a Trojan horse is, retard? You actually have to install it like a douche to infect yourself, but granted I'm talking to someone with your intelligence, that's not so far-fetched, so you better stay with Macs (for now anyway, until they get bombarded with malware in a few years).
Another ignorant Mac user that I have to explain this to. ANTI-VIRUS IS FREE. Microsoft even GIVES you one for Windows now off their website, and you don't pay a dime. It's practically built into Windows 7.
use both, actually. Glad it is "built" into Windows 7, because it should be . . . it is ridiculous that a developer would rely on a third part software provider to fix their product. Microsoft has always had the mentality that they can ship product and fix it later. . . (hence the SP2s and the like.) Vista lasted about as long as Me did . . . but hey. . your right, I am just an "ignorant Mac user".
What's more ridiculous is the reason as to why they have to rely on a 3rd party developer (in this case, themselves apparently). That reason being facing laws against monopoly and being forced to dis-include some features to make their OS less popular by governments under which they popularly operate.
Believe me when I say, if Apple owned more then their pathetic 10% market share, Microsoft's products would be twice as good. At this point, they can't afford being competitive.
I'm still using Vista 64bit atm, had no problems at all with it except for 1 minor one. The Game Silent Hunter 3 has some gay copy protection on it called Starforce. Starforce doesn't work with 64bit OS :( solved it by buying the game again off Steam for £5 which has a version of the game without Starforce
You can really very well calculate, i´m sure you made a huge excel-sheet of it, well, mac user did in this time something really nice, or creative, or simply funny things, lot of dirty sex as example, heard about it? Sex?
OS makes all the difference. mac's rule for serious audio, video work. pc's are ok for browsing or data entry. have a small laptop pc for browsing, but use mac for work
I do quite a bit of video editing on my PC just fine. And you do realize that if you have a Mac it has the ability to go on the internet, right? You don't need two computers for two tasks... even a Mac isn't that bad.
Yes if we are talking about OS it does make a difference. Macs OS is basic and simple for people who aren't that computer literate. But you are talking about programs, it doesn't matter what what OS you have to have a good editing program, please the more RAM the faster the rendering meaning the PC would be better for that
It's a fun debate is all it is. If anyone is doing smearing here, it's Apple publicly trying to point out wrongs about Microsoft since the early '90s.
No, but I get to read and reply to comments every day, and it makes my day all the more better. Not to mention how much I actually learned from talking to people on the internet over the past year.
Well, seeing as I can do with my Windows machine everything you can do with your Mac and then some, on top of complete control and upgrade-ability of my software, I would still vote Windows to be the better option. People need to realize that Vista doesn't define the Windows world. By next year, Vista will be forgotten almost completely.
It's obvious you've never used a mac. My experience with windows ends with XP. The only time I used Vista was to try to connect my iphone which it never was able to detect.
Does it on a Mac? I don't know why, but the iPod on Windows is set as a special device, rather then mass storage. You can chose to make some of it storage space through an option within iTunes though, I know that much.
Honestly I don't know about this, all I used was an iPod shuffle first gen and I never bothered to try out the mass storage thing. I had it back when I was still using XP and never got a new one yet. So I'll take your word for it.
But I do have to give props to Apple for making that iPod shuffle so long-lasting. It really is fancy how it's so small and it's battery lasts for so long.
The funny thing is how Mac fanboys tend to say the Mac is better because of better updates, no viruses, and all this other crap. Ubuntu Linux has similar software benefits, and it's free. Works right on a PC.
hahaha nice try you wintard. at 0:17 it says above "configure your macbook pro 15-inch". the 17-inch come standard with 4gb RAM. im gonna make a video response owning the hell out of you.
lol. You do realize that usinga 17 inch in your video will only make PCs look better, b/c the macc will be 2500 bucks...BTW i am a huge mac fan but also like PCs. They do the same stuff, mac is more of a toy in taht it has nice software design, but functionality goes to windows hands down
Just wanted to punch in my thoughts to this debate.
It seems the video poster is totally pre-biased to PCs... they're good for different things!
I don't know who has ever argued that Macs are cheaper than PCs, they aren't.. they come with a lot less stuff.
However, with that being said, Apple knows its target market well, it's creative artists, film makers or more privileged individuals who can afford the Apple name and their design. I myself bought last year's 2.5GHz MBP for the amazing price
"The 1 GB in your gfx card is never going to be fully utilized" Some games require up to 2GB. 3D imaging and graphics design can be GPU intensive too.
"The lack of an antivirus program" I didn't include one because they are available for free.
"meet bootcamp and Parallels" Hello! Unfortunately, that means restricting myself to the limited power of a Mac machine, running Windows. That defeats the whole purpose of even buying a Mac in the first place.
"buggy Apple software on Windows works fine on Mac" Yeah, iTunes gives Windows 3 processes on startup. It's almost as if Apple was trying to make Windows look bad!? WMP is faster and smoother, though I dislike the interface.
Reguarding portability, if you're into small screens and tiny computers, that's fine. Most
people get a laptop because it's carriable unlike a desktop, not because it's utterly tiny and super-portable.
Windows has been known to be slow at times. This is a sacrifice, that indeed Macs do not deal with. Unfortunately, OS X isn't that useful to everyone and there is a price to pay for it.
I've tried using FCP and I hated it (my opinion only). I prefer Adobe over everything, especially because of the package you can get: Photoshop, After Effects... the whole suite
is all you need to make anything on your screen look as it should.
I am only bias as a response to the hundreds of comments I read that hate on PCs. If they would have shut up, and if Apple wouldn't have LIED to me in their ads, and if I didn't hear "Vista copied Mac" on a daily basis, this account wouldn't exist.
Anyway, good chatting with you, hope to hear from you again! If I missed anything, I'll be more then happy to discuss it.
im used a PC almost all my life, its been shitty, even a high end HP. I tried a mac at a local apple store. It is inferior to a PC.
The only thing i need now is money, but im okay with spending it. PC's are cheaper, but i've already spent about 400 dollars on repairs, and viruses (i use anti-virus and don't go to suspicious sites.). I spent $750 on the laptop at first. Thats $1150. You could buy a MacBook with 4GB ram and 250GB Harddrive for that much.
$750 is NOT a high end PC. What can you possibly spend $400 on? In psychology there's this theory of multiple intelligence categories, one of them is called constructive; having constructive intelligence means being able to understand how things work and essentially being able to not rely on other people all the times to fix your mistakes due to a lack of understanding of how it works.
For $1200 those specs in this day and age are a complete ripoff.
of $1700CDN I think.. which happens when the new ones get released. Let me list you the reasons why I got this thing versus a WIndows-based laptop or the new ones:
1) Battery life. You're plain lying if you tell me anything close to the MBP specs can get me the same amount of hours on a windows counterpart. I get just over 4 hours. Perfect for 2 two-hour lectures without a charge.
2) Matte screen. Color accuracy is slightly better on a matte screen and there's no ANNOYING reflections!
3) OS X and specific features. I'm do film work and Final Cut Pro is among the best application for this.. Mac only. And the multitouch touchpad is amazing!!! 2 finger scroll, 3 finger back/forward control, 2 finger tap for right click... I also use Adobe's creative suite heavily and let me tell you expose is AMAZING for productivity. Please visit SFU Surrey where the programs focus on interactive arts. It's Macbook Pro galore! Wonder why any design school is a Macbook realm?
4) Portability. I was using a Acer (piece of crap, believe me) that weighed 6.5lbs and had similar specs. My MBP is 5.5lbs and like 3.5cm thin and that made a HUGE difference to carry around with you all day. Your 18" monster is not meant to be carried around.. weighs 8.5lbs or something like that. College=lightweight, small screens ftw. However, I also wanted to game and needed the power for that and my other work... so MBP fit me perfectly...
5) Software. My comp boots up way faster than a PC
but whatever.. small beans. HOWEVER, it's why this is that's important. The lack of an antivirus program (a huge resource hog in the background) saves power and system resources. My PCs were always fast until an AV was installed. Also, meet bootcamp and Parallels. I can do everything you can do through Windows... either in the background.. or natively when I need all the power to game or something. Lastly, buggy Apple software on Windows works fine on Mac.
My conclusion? A PC and Mac are better suited for different people. Those that are cost conscious first, PC or netbook all the way. Those that are going into creative art fields.. Mac all the way...
One last thing... The 1 GB in your gfx card is never going to be fully utilized.. you really don't need more than 256MB-512MB for something like the 9600GT.
That depends on what your motherboard supports. If it can only go up to 8GB, then unfortunately you would not be able to get more unless you replaced it.
The mac has a much better and stable operating system than windows and that's what you are paying for. The windows operating systems still contains old code that just has been added in the newer Windows.
For certain things, it's not worth getting OS X just to be more stable. Vista is very resilient to crashes on even medium-quality hardware, and with Windows 7 on the way, Windows will become easily on-par with OS X.
ahh your forgetting that mac offers student discounts between $100-$200. If its two hundred dollars cheaper, you are wrong. if its one hundred, then its a matter of preference
It seems here that the ongoing debate is primarily about what's "better," which, in this discussion appears to be basically personal opinion that cannot hold up in a debate. The point of the video is to show that a similarly-equipped (actually slightly better-equipped) PC is cheaper than a Mac and, guess what: it is! Why do Mac-philes feel the need to get so defensive? The numbers speak for themselves. I own both, each for different reasons, but the PC was markedly cheaper. Deal with it.
If you break it down to basic hardware components, Apple is selling their Macs for a good double of their regular value. It doesn't matter how they configure them, because there are models of PCs that also are put together really well for the same price as those that aren't. It depends on who you buy from and what model. As for the OS, Macintosh has many flaws and mainly isn't compatible with all that many things yet.
Wow, they are not selling their computers for double their value. Also, "Macintosh" is not an OS. OS X runs on Macintosh and it has very few issues as it runs on UNIX, and it's very secure(more secure than windows). Macs are capable of most programs out there, besides games. But, not everyone plays games... I have all the software I need for Macs, and they run fine. I'm getting A LOT less crashes than on my windows machine. And, I've never had a virus. No one I know has gotten a virus/complained
OS X is not the full name, it is and always has been Macintosh OS, or Mac for short, in this case Mac OS X. I guess this is debatable, but that's what it says on all of the official documents and internal messages. Mac is indeed more secure and stable then Windows; however, there are still a lot of examples of software that Mac only has counterparts to, and a switcher has Windows versions, and replacing those can cost thousands of dollars.
Vista has never crashed for me to the point I lost my work. It stalls sometimes, but recovers in about 30 seconds to 1 minute. I never had to power off the computer because of a software error. I also never got a virus, so this isn't a concern for me. I do everything, even use torrents and limewire and all that junk, just with a little bit of caution and a virus protection program.
Windows just comes with it. Leopard, which you essentially pay about $1000 for on a basic Macbook Pro (granted it's obnoxious cost) is debatable. A LOT of people that buy a Mac buy Windows for it anyway because OS X is incompatible with so much software and hardware. If I had a Mac, I would NEED to run Windows on it just to run most of my software (without replacing it with expensive OS X counterparts). So, I hope my point is obvious by now.
Not to mention, by the way, that certain software, like Acid Pro isn't available on OS X and is one-of-a-kind. Games mostly also do not run on OS X. Not to mention, Mac machines are not built with the power to run things like games despite the fact that they are so expensive.
Macs are more powerful than the majority of the PCs out there... You have to remember that Leopard doesn't eat RAM like vista does, so you have more free RAM.
Also, Macs aren't for everyone. You obviously have a bunch of software for Windows. I happen to have all the software I need for OS X. And if you need windows, great... windows runs perfectly on all Macs. So, buying a mac is like buying 2 computers(OS X and Windows - or any other OS).
Buying a Mac and running Windows means you're still dependent on Windows. If OS X was perfect, Windows would not need to exist on Macs. That being said, running Windows on a Mac, or high-intensity software sometimes needs a lot of computer power, which the cheaper Macs cannot accommodate for.
Go run Vista on a Mac Mini. See how many programs you can multitask with it once you have it running. Try editing multiple layers of an HD video on a Mac Mini. See how effective it will be.
Except that a similarly specced PC would sell for hundreds less. When you buy a Mac, half of it covers the hardware, and the other half of your price tag is essentially paying for just OS X. That $130 you pay Apple is just for upgrades. OS X costs thousands!!
Wow, another great example of how Mac users have to bash Windows, and their users, to make themselves feel better about their incorrect decision when choosing a computer.
Who here is surprised? Its okay, just raise your hand.
I attempted to post in direct reply, but was not allowed. In any case the so called Mac security is an illusion propagated by the Mac marketing team. The truth of the matter is due to Window's huge market share especially in businesses, schools, and other establishments it is much better to make viruses and bots for systems that may actually yield something useful. No on wants to invest the time just to pilfer your i Tunes, sir.
I forgot to mention spaces too. And then there is the security! Try going sans firewall + antivirus at Microsoft's webpage and see if you don't get a virus! As a matter of fact if your PC is permanently online by ADSL or Cable connection, your PC will be infected in 7 seconds by the time you boot it up! Mac? I have an antivirus program and it just takes up space and CPU time.
Where did you hear that retarded theory? Windows getting infected withing 7 seconds? Cookies when you browse the internet don't count...
I have a virus protection program that was free and it takes up nothing more then like 20mb of RAM, if even that, and it's always idle so doesn't take up any processor power.
Such as? OS X only costs $130, it's the machine you pay so much for. The software that comes standard with it, like iLife, is very basic. It is handy, but nowhere near a professional level for any work.
Garage band, iCalc, Mail, Stickies (stickies are especially handy to me, I always had to create a bloody notepad file) Expose, comes with php apache and java preinstalled dashboard (which Microsoft copied) dictionary, divx player, front row, iChat, iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, iTunes, Preview (which can show PDF documents too aswell as join more than one of them together), TextEdit(far better than notepad in my opinion) software that you have to pay for when you are using Windows.
umm..ok windows comes with calculator, outlook express, (you can download freeware that is the same as stickies), windows has hotkeys that do the same thing as expose, dashboard, wmp, windows messenger, windows movie maker, windows photo gallery, frontpage, windows media player, pdf readers are once again, free, notepad...all for free..not sure what you are trying to get at..there is nothing a mac can do that a pc cant do better.
Forget freeware that you can download. I am speaking of what comes with the OS. Most of those apps I mentioned were on Tiger, that was at the time of XP. When XP had less than half of that software. Everything that Vista can do Tiger could do. Plus Tiger was partially 64 bit. That's when XP were wholly 32 bit. Thing is Windows can't do anything better than Mac. Just disable your firewall and your antivirus and visit a porn site or even microsofts site. You'll see.
Windows comes with basics like OS X does. Not as many, but stuff like iPhoto is built into explorer in Windows, and there's a counterpart for almost everything. Like I said, it's useless anyway if you're planning on doing anything advanced. Not saying MS software is any better, it's not, but when I get an OS I don't care what's on it, it's all about what of my own, and real, software it can run and how well.
MAC owns PC computers have been known around the world to be disgusting, unattractive, and just plain terrible to use in comparison to MAC. MAC's are SO MUCH BETTER then PC's. MICROSOFT makes shit ...
I think it would be safe to say the GPU is more than 4x better because it probably has more than 4 times the pixel and texture shaders, and it probably has more FLOPS.
Lol, I looked at the part when you compared RAM, and the funny thing is the Mac would run fine with the 2GB, whereas Vista NEEDS 4GB to run smoothly. Also, if you want 4GB of RAM for your Mac there are other places to get it. I went to a local shop and picked up two 2GB sticks for 90 bucks.
4GB is the recommended amount of RAM PC users should have if they plan on doing hardcore gaming. 2GB RAM is more then enough to get by in Vista, 512mb is the core minimum and 1GB is the recommended for Vista. Get your facts straight.
Also, many people don't know about computers enough to know what type of RAM to even get, so your argument is valid only for some people.

JLawsonPHill 1 year ago
@JLawsonPHill Hmm, I honestly can't say that has ever happened to me. Were you using Internet Explorer? That thing sucks... I've been using Chrome for the past year, before that Firefox, it always asks before downloading anything. Windows asks before running any installation too, unless it's a console exe, where running it as administrator will allow it to bypass security. I know Mac is safer, it's just not that insecure being on Windows.
I'm not really a Windows fanboy, anymore... lol

ok what you don,t get is that in a mac your getting to computer in one you can have windows on your mac to you can not dual boot mac os x and windows on a pc can you at least not legally your so stupid your also getting mac os x you don,t have to get a antivirus on a mac if you even go in on to a web site on a pc you can get a virus lol mac will always be better than pc sorry
JLawsonPHill 1 year ago
@JLawsonPHill The problem with your "argument" is that the Windows side doesn't need OS X on the machine for any reason. Its software libraries are enough to keep anyone with it... actually, Microsoft deliberately built a monopoly around it to lock down users even if they don't want to use Windows. OS X may or may not accomodate everyone, so having access to Windows is kind of a key feature. As for the virus thing, you're an idiot... do some research, Windows doesn't get infected THAT easy.
PoliticalHell 1 year ago
@JLawsonPHill I'm not mad, it just annoys me when people say Windows gets a virus the moment you connect to the internet. It doesn't. I NEVER got a virus since I've been using Windows for the past 15 years. If I can do it virus-free, you can do it. Unless you download porn or some weird apps, or go to obviously shady sites, you won't get a virus. Even then, most of the time a free antivirus will catch it.
If you like OS X more, that's fine, but you're simply spreading fear and lies of windows.
PoliticalHell 1 year ago
@PoliticalHell i just switched to mac and I'm way happier. Ive had 3 pc in the past and they've all gotten viruses and i just used it for regular things... the virus on my last one was so bad that i couldn't even open up the antivirus scan, it would redirect me. So i bought a mac looked up the virus and it told me i had to buy a special tool just to get rid of it..... so to me PC's have a terrible reputation of getting viruses.
steven1lee 6 months ago
@steven1lee Well no offense, but you did something very stupid to get such a virus. Like I said countless times, if I can use a Windows computer without getting any viruses in the past 13 years, so can you.
PoliticalHell 6 months ago

@PoliticalHellwow i don't think you get the point. Anybody can avoid viruses by checking everything they open. but why would you rather do that when you could just buy a mac.
And sorry i didn't know there were levels of hardness to getting viruses.
steven1lee 6 months ago
mac's are not too expensive, why do all you people say that? i mean, sure they are expensive, but only when you compare it to all those crappy, cheap pc's!
CrazyycclowN 1 year ago
@CrazyycclowN Because when compared to any PC of the same class and build quality, you're still going to have hundreds of dollars just sitting on the brand name. Take the Macbook Pro, and go compare it to, for example, the HP Envy. They're very similar computers, yet the HP gives you more hardware for a cheaper price.
I find this to be the case with pretty much any Mac. There's always a cheaper PC version.
PoliticalHell 1 year ago
the hp laptop was cheaper by a few hundred bucks, but however, it has no mag safe power adapter, and it is made out of plastic, the mac book pro is unibody aluminum. You get what few extra hundred buck's you payed for.
CrazyycclowN 1 year ago
To all the people saying windows 7 hangs. My hp laptop rarely hangs with windows 7 and I never restart. Using mac osx I get the spindle at least once everytime I use it. The hp is far superior in speed to even the desktop macs I use. The macbook pro equivalent was double the price and the hardware was still worse. Apple is bullshit. They only make software for their own hardware. Therefore they can charge whatever they want and the uninformed and fanboys always want the latest apple product.
aedanman 1 year ago
i disagree, i have an hp notebook and i love it, but which one is right for you can only be decided by you.
faulesach 1 year ago
Ok so the hp laptop was cheaper... i'd rather pay the premium for os x and have a laptop with better build quality. HP laptops suck in terms of build quality. Their trackpads are awful, and their keyboards are bland and void of feeling or responsiveness. To each it's own, i suppose.
speedvaxer 1 year ago
You can't compare ón hardware .. You need to look at the system, what it can do. The design and more thing. I can see the deal. But still I go for the Mac
RonjaMiin 1 year ago
The reason macs have lower specs is because they don't require as many resources to run. I have a pc with windows 7 right now that is pretty good for the price. It has been in repair once, it crashes sometimes, and my iPod won't sync with it.
I love it, but sometimes it drives me up the wall. A mac would be cool to get, but they're too expensive.
MattAlpha1 1 year ago
ShaunDreclin 2 years ago
Thats exactly why i got one it does most of the thing i want it to but i don't have to waste money on that anti virus software because the system protects its self

@ShaunDreclin Ha, i think that movie you went to watch was an important thing done on a mac. That poster you drive by is an important thing done on a mac, and design wise, this website is an important thing done on yet again a MAC. 30 million people use macs, it aint a small percentage yet there sitn one virus,.
itsonlydesign 2 years ago
@itsonlydesign

Oscarstein 2 years ago
actually my pc handles any program at all fine.
coopercrue 2 years ago
@Oscarstein Ha! You do know that macs are pretty much the standard for graphics and video editing (whether it be adobe or final cut), something much more then your psp can do
itsonlydesign 2 years ago
Oscarstein 2 years ago
if the OS is such a big deal, you can always switch to linux for free. Mac and linux are both based off Unix. Then you'll have better hardware and equal software. Or you can get 7 cause its pretty classy.
mikob11 2 years ago
then you remember oh wait pcs crash and are a home for viruses lmao then you buy the macbook pro
adrianfigueroa 2 years ago
And then I facepalm myself because I remember that PCs actually DON'T crash ever since I stopped using XP, and PCs DON'T get viruses when you run Microsoft's FREE antivirus. And then I realize, once again, that the Macbook, running an OS with a bug that can delete all of my files from the hard drive, is not as great as it's made out to be, so I go buy that PC again.

ummm .. . .actually, when you add the 100 + bucks for all the anti-virus protection . . . you don't win on price.
plus, you have to re-spend that money every year.
hmmm . ..
zeromusic 2 years ago
Another ignorant Mac user that I have to explain this to. ANTI-VIRUS IS FREE. Microsoft even GIVES you one for Windows now off their website, and you don't pay a dime. It's practically built into Windows 7.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
use both, actually. Glad it is "built" into Windows 7, because it should be . . . it is ridiculous that a developer would rely on a third part software provider to fix their product. Microsoft has always had the mentality that they can ship product and fix it later. . . (hence the SP2s and the like.) Vista lasted about as long as Me did . . . but hey. . your right, I am just an "ignorant Mac user".
zeromusic 2 years ago
What's more ridiculous is the reason as to why they have to rely on a 3rd party developer (in this case, themselves apparently). That reason being facing laws against monopoly and being forced to dis-include some features to make their OS less popular by governments under which they popularly operate.
Believe me when I say, if Apple owned more then their pathetic 10% market share, Microsoft's products would be twice as good. At this point, they can't afford being competitive.

PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Yes if we are talking about OS it does make a difference. Macs OS is basic and simple for people who aren't that computer literate. But you are talking about programs, it doesn't matter what what OS you have to have a good editing program, please the more RAM the faster the rendering meaning the PC would be better for that

Anavengertg 2 years ago
If I took software into consideration, Apple wouldn't even stand a chance remotely.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
which basically gives us a super clear understanding of how knowledgeable you are regarding macs =)
Anavengertg 2 years ago
Well, seeing as I can do with my Windows machine everything you can do with your Mac and then some, on top of complete control and upgrade-ability of my software, I would still vote Windows to be the better option. People need to realize that Vista doesn't define the Windows world. By next year, Vista will be forgotten almost completely.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
It's obvious you've never used a mac. My experience with windows ends with XP. The only time I used Vista was to try to connect my iphone which it never was able to detect.
Anavengertg 2 years ago
Only on a regular basis. But that's completely besides the point.
iPhone works on Windows like the iPod - you need iTunes or some hacked software equivalent.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
even without itunes it should still work as a storage drive.
Anavengertg 2 years ago
Does it on a Mac? I don't know why, but the iPod on Windows is set as a special device, rather then mass storage. You can chose to make some of it storage space through an option within iTunes though, I know that much.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
In xp it worked as a storage device.
Anavengertg 2 years ago
Honestly I don't know about this, all I used was an iPod shuffle first gen and I never bothered to try out the mass storage thing. I had it back when I was still using XP and never got a new one yet. So I'll take your word for it.
But I do have to give props to Apple for making that iPod shuffle so long-lasting. It really is fancy how it's so small and it's battery lasts for so long.

I myself bought last year's 2.5GHz MBP for the amazing price
lhsonic 2 years ago
"The 1 GB in your gfx card is never going to be fully utilized" Some games require up to 2GB. 3D imaging and graphics design can be GPU intensive too.
"The lack of an antivirus program" I didn't include one because they are available for free.
"meet bootcamp and Parallels" Hello! Unfortunately, that means restricting myself to the limited power of a Mac machine, running Windows. That defeats the whole purpose of even buying a Mac in the first place.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
"buggy Apple software on Windows works fine on Mac" Yeah, iTunes gives Windows 3 processes on startup. It's almost as if Apple was trying to make Windows look bad!? WMP is faster and smoother, though I dislike the interface.
Reguarding portability, if you're into small screens and tiny computers, that's fine. Most
people get a laptop because it's carriable unlike a desktop, not because it's utterly tiny and super-portable.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Windows has been known to be slow at times. This is a sacrifice, that indeed Macs do not deal with. Unfortunately, OS X isn't that useful to everyone and there is a price to pay for it.
I've tried using FCP and I hated it (my opinion only). I prefer Adobe over everything, especially because of the package you can get: Photoshop, After Effects... the whole suite
is all you need to make anything on your screen look as it should.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
I hate expose. It's the most unorganized cluttering thing ever, and in my humble opinion it will never reach up to the simplicity of a task bar.
Art tends to side with Macs. Go to anything scientific or technical, more then likely they
use PCs.
The screens on PCs are different per model. I've never bought this one, so I can't tell you
more details.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago

You could buy a MacBook with 4GB ram and 250GB Harddrive for that much.
jakewilsonTV 2 years ago
You mean superior? Inferior means worse.
For $1200 those specs in this day and age are a complete ripoff.

boyuchuadaniel 1 year ago
of $1700CDN I think.. which happens when the new ones get released.
Color accuracy is slightly better on a matte screen and there's no ANNOYING reflections!
lhsonic 2 years ago
3) OS X and specific features. I'm do film work and Final Cut Pro is among the best application for this.. Mac only. And the multitouch touchpad is amazing!!! 2 finger scroll, 3 finger back/forward control, 2 finger tap for right click... I also use Adobe's creative suite heavily and let me tell you expose is AMAZING for productivity. Please visit SFU Surrey where the programs focus on interactive arts. It's Macbook Pro galore! Wonder why any design school is a Macbook realm?
lhsonic 2 years ago
4) Portability. I was using a Acer (piece of crap, believe me) that weighed 6.5lbs and had similar specs. My MBP is 5.5lbs and like 3.5cm thin and that made a HUGE difference to carry around with you all day. Your 18" monster is not meant to be carried around.. weighs 8.5lbs or something like that. College=lightweight, small screens ftw. However, I also wanted to game and needed the power for that and my other work... so MBP fit me perfectly...
5) Software. My comp boots up way faster than a PC
lhsonic 2 years ago
but whatever.. small beans. Lastly, buggy Apple software on Windows works fine on Mac.
lhsonic 2 years ago
My conclusion? A PC and Mac are better suited for different people. Those that are cost conscious first, PC or netbook all the way. Those that are going into creative art fields.. Mac all the way...
One last thing... The 1 GB in your gfx card is never going to be fully utilized.. you really don't need more than 256MB-512MB for something like the 9600GT.
lhsonic 2 years ago
I rated as low as I wanted.
But since 6/5 was not available, I went lower to 5/5...

That depends on what your motherboard supports. If it can only go up to 8GB, then unfortunately you would not be able to get more unless you replaced it.

The mac has a much better and stable operating system than windows and that's what you are paying for. The windows operating systems still contains old code that just has been added in the newer Windows.
cliffemannen 2 years ago
For certain things, it's not worth getting OS X just to be more stable. Vista is very resilient to crashes on even medium-quality hardware, and with Windows 7 on the way, Windows will become easily on-par with OS X.

ahh your forgetting that mac offers student discounts between $100-$200. If its two hundred dollars cheaper, you are wrong. if its one hundred, then its a matter of preference

Not everyone is a student.

TheKeyboardDrummer 2 years ago
and the pc has the 'cheaply performing' os to go with it
WellHowdyDew 2 years ago
Sure the PC is cheaper, by a few hundred. You may of heard this a lot, but you get what you pay for!
Windows doesn't care what hardware it is running off of. Apple, on the other hand, has all the hardware so everything runs perfectly.
It's all about quality and the OS.
Zillicah 2 years ago
If you break it down to basic hardware components, Apple is selling their Macs for a good double of their regular value. It doesn't matter how they configure them, because there are models of PCs that also are put together really well for the same price as those that aren't. It depends on who you buy from and what model. As for the OS, Macintosh has many flaws and mainly isn't compatible with all that many things yet.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Wow, they are not selling their computers for double their value. Also, "Macintosh" is not an OS. OS X runs on Macintosh and it has very few issues as it runs on UNIX, and it's very secure(more secure than windows). Macs are capable of most programs out there, besides games. But, not everyone plays games... I have all the software I need for Macs, and they run fine. I'm getting A LOT less crashes than on my windows machine. And, I've never had a virus. No one I know has gotten a virus/complained
Zillicah 2 years ago
OS X is not the full name, it is and always has been Macintosh OS, or Mac for short, in this case Mac OS X. I guess this is debatable, but that's what it says on all of the official documents and internal messages. Mac is indeed more secure and stable then Windows; however, there are still a lot of examples of software that Mac only has counterparts to, and a switcher has Windows versions, and replacing those can cost thousands of dollars.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Vista has never crashed for me to the point I lost my work. It stalls sometimes, but recovers in about 30 seconds to 1 minute. I never had to power off the computer because of a software error. I also never got a virus, so this isn't a concern for me. I do everything, even use torrents and limewire and all that junk, just with a little bit of caution and a virus protection program.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Yea, and what OS are you paying for?
WINDOWS..
With the macbook pro you are getting LEOPARD.
leopard is better than windows. dont ask me why, do your own research.
Zillicah 2 years ago
Windows just comes with it. Leopard, which you essentially pay about $1000 for on a basic Macbook Pro (granted it's obnoxious cost) is debatable. A LOT of people that buy a Mac buy Windows for it anyway because OS X is incompatible with so much software and hardware. If I had a Mac, I would NEED to run Windows on it just to run most of my software (without replacing it with expensive OS X counterparts). So, I hope my point is obvious by now.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Not to mention, by the way, that certain software, like Acid Pro isn't available on OS X and is one-of-a-kind. Games mostly also do not run on OS X. Not to mention, Mac machines are not built with the power to run things like games despite the fact that they are so expensive.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Macs are more powerful than the majority of the PCs out there... You have to remember that Leopard doesn't eat RAM like vista does, so you have more free RAM.
Also, Macs aren't for everyone. You obviously have a bunch of software for Windows. I happen to have all the software I need for OS X. And if you need windows, great... windows runs perfectly on all Macs. So, buying a mac is like buying 2 computers(OS X and Windows - or any other OS).
Zillicah 2 years ago
Buying a Mac and running Windows means you're still dependent on Windows. If OS X was perfect, Windows would not need to exist on Macs. That being said, running Windows on a Mac, or high-intensity software sometimes needs a lot of computer power, which the cheaper Macs cannot accommodate for.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
lol-running windows on the mac does not need tremendous hardware. it's exactly as if running on the pc. quit spewing B.S.
WellHowdyDew 2 years ago
Go run Vista on a Mac Mini. See how many programs you can multitask with it once you have it running. Try editing multiple layers of an HD video on a Mac Mini. See how effective it will be.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
it would operate exactly the same as a similarly specced pc
WellHowdyDew 2 years ago
Except that a similarly specced PC would sell for hundreds less. When you buy a Mac, half of it covers the hardware, and the other half of your price tag is essentially paying for just OS X. That $130 you pay Apple is just for upgrades. OS X costs thousands!!
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
This is all figuratively speaking, of course. Don't take it literally.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Wow, another great example of how Mac users have to bash Windows, and their users, to make themselves feel better about their incorrect decision when choosing a computer.
Who here is surprised? Its okay, just raise your hand.
TasteMaster2004 2 years ago
I attempted to post in direct reply, but was not allowed. In any case the so called Mac security is an illusion propagated by the Mac marketing team. The truth of the matter is due to Window's huge market share especially in businesses, schools, and other establishments it is much better to make viruses and bots for systems that may actually yield something useful. No on wants to invest the time just to pilfer your i Tunes, sir.
Poland805 2 years ago
I forgot to mention spaces too. And then there is the security! Try going sans firewall + antivirus at Microsoft's webpage and see if you don't get a virus! As a matter of fact if your PC is permanently online by ADSL or Cable connection, your PC will be infected in 7 seconds by the time you boot it up! Mac? I have an antivirus program and it just takes up space and CPU time.
Naousaios26 2 years ago
Where did you hear that retarded theory? Windows getting infected withing 7 seconds? Cookies when you browse the internet don't count...
I have a virus protection program that was free and it takes up nothing more then like 20mb of RAM, if even that, and it's always idle so doesn't take up any processor power.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Have you taken into account with all of the extra software a mac comes bundled with that you have to pay for in windows?
Naousaios26 2 years ago
Such as? OS X only costs $130, it's the machine you pay so much for. The software that comes standard with it, like iLife, is very basic. It is handy, but nowhere near a professional level for any work.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Garage band, iCalc, Mail, Stickies (stickies are especially handy to me, I always had to create a bloody notepad file) Expose, comes with php apache and java preinstalled dashboard (which Microsoft copied) dictionary, divx player, front row, iChat, iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, iTunes, Preview (which can show PDF documents too aswell as join more than one of them together), TextEdit(far better than notepad in my opinion) software that you have to pay for when you are using Windows.
Naousaios26 2 years ago
Apple copied Konfabulator to make their dashboard so your point is?
ASCII808 2 years ago
umm..ok windows comes with calculator, outlook express, (you can download freeware that is the same as stickies), windows has hotkeys that do the same thing as expose, dashboard, wmp, windows messenger, windows movie maker, windows photo gallery, frontpage, windows media player, pdf readers are once again, free, notepad...all for free..not sure what you are trying to get at..there is nothing a mac can do that a pc cant do better.
dsquaredduffy 2 years ago
Forget freeware that you can download. I am speaking of what comes with the OS. Most of those apps I mentioned were on Tiger, that was at the time of XP. When XP had less than half of that software. Everything that Vista can do Tiger could do. Plus Tiger was partially 64 bit. That's when XP were wholly 32 bit. Thing is Windows can't do anything better than Mac. Just disable your firewall and your antivirus and visit a porn site or even microsofts site. You'll see.
Naousaios26 2 years ago
Windows comes with basics like OS X does. Not as many, but stuff like iPhoto is built into explorer in Windows, and there's a counterpart for almost everything. Like I said, it's useless anyway if you're planning on doing anything advanced. Not saying MS software is any better, it's not, but when I get an OS I don't care what's on it, it's all about what of my own, and real, software it can run and how well.

MAC = amazing.
PC = absolute and utter failure.
MAC owns PC computers have been known around the world to be disgusting, unattractive, and just plain terrible to use in comparison to MAC. MAC's are SO MUCH BETTER then PC's. MICROSOFT makes shit ...
RonneyOax 2 years ago
I think it would be safe to say the GPU is more than 4x better because it probably has more than 4 times the pixel and texture shaders, and it probably has more FLOPS.
cooleoman256 3 years ago
Lol, I looked at the part when you compared RAM, and the funny thing is the Mac would run fine with the 2GB, whereas Vista NEEDS 4GB to run smoothly. Also, if you want 4GB of RAM for your Mac there are other places to get it. I went to a local shop and picked up two 2GB sticks for 90 bucks.
jamie4794 3 years ago
4GB is the recommended amount of RAM PC users should have if they plan on doing hardcore gaming. 2GB RAM is more then enough to get by in Vista, 512mb is the core minimum and 1GB is the recommended for Vista. Get your facts straight.
Also, many people don't know about computers enough to know what type of RAM to even get, so your argument is valid only for some people.
PoliticalHell 3 years ago
wow you paid too much for your ram. (2x2)4 gigs is only 50$, you got ripped off.
ASCII808 3 years ago
You don't' need 4GB of Ram to run Vista smoothly, I've run it smoothly for two years with 2 GB of RAM.
