  • Too bad this is the muffled "towel over the speaker" so to speak original studio version, not live.

So glad I got to see them twice at the Inglewood Forum June 21st and June 23rd 1977 for they never returned to the states, sadly.

  • Miaou

  • This is the Album cut, not some live track. It's been fixed, but EVERYTHING is the same.

  • I've been watching Zeppelin videos since 10am this morning, think i'll watch some other band now...............................Na, i change my mind lol 'LED ZePPELiN FOREVER!!!!'

  • Sitting by the wayside biding time in quiet peace

Awaiting grace within the Sea of Calm,

They stand to turn in seconds of release,

And await the call they know may never come...nobody, but nobody, writes lyrics like this anymore, and we're the sadder for it. Long live Led Zep.

  • Actually, it's not a soundcheck either, so your not exactly correct. This is the unmixed version of the original song released on ITTOD. With louder drums and vocals.

  • This and 'Fire' especially if they'd ever released it, would have been for the time something of a spectacle live.

  • to the fucktards that think this is live - time to listen to some real music- this is a studio soundcheck rehearsal before the upcoming world tour that sadly never happened - the 6 diff versions of this I have are all stunning and completely different - too bad prob would of hear Swansong live on this tour - only in our dreams now

  • @madtnt Thank you my friend. A badass tune never played beyond the studio. I was looking forward to hearing this gem live in 80, sadly Bonzo decided to leave us too early. What could have been.

  • Yeah, this is the studio version, not a live version

  • bonzo's drums sounds soooo powerful!! this is probably the song before editing.. robert's lyrics are exactly the same but we can him more clear here

  • umm, correct me if im wrong, but wasnt carouselambra one of the only songs zeppelin never played live?

  • @LadyStardust011 ya thats true. and this is fake anyway, but its still a cool post

  • @LadyStardust011, yea it was planned to be played during the 1980 tour and was actually rehersed the day Bonzo died.

  • didnt bonzo die in 1980?

  • Most underrated song. I love it, sooo exciting!!

  • NOT LIVE. FAIL.

  • @20carrocks did it say "LIVE" anywhere in the description or title? didn't think so. troll

  • @LSA2013 Hey dipshit...read the idiot poster's description. Victoria Theater, London 1980? Umm....I don't think that's a recording studio. Get it now? Play In Through The Out Door on a shitty old 8-track machine and this is what you will get. Don't flame me, I'm not the fucktard that posted this.

  • @LSA2013 then what's so "ULTRA RARE" about it? it's just one of the deeper tracks off the album. and what does "1980" have to do with it? that album was realeased in 79. so yeah.....misleading....trying to post it like it was live.

  • @20carrocks- Absoulutely correct!

  • @20carrocks that's form rehearsals.

  • Completely fake, and in shitty quality too. Well done.

  • as fake as paul mccartney's life since 1967

  • This is fake, Led Zeppelin never played in the UK in 1980 during their European Tour, and Carouselambra was still being rehearsed for the 1980 american tour in November 1980 before John Bonham died.

  • listen to bonham. heavy as fuck

  • You can hear some left over influence from the presence album (my favorite) in jimmy's playing. I am a little tired of fool in the rain and aoml. this is the best song on the album imho But hey I love 10 miinute songs. cheers

  • I love his voice here. Always loved it. Early days AND later days.

  • This is a 1978 studio version outtake. Notice bass and synthesizer.

Led Zeppelin-Stairway To Heaven 1980, Victoria Theatre (do a search on youtube).

  • This is a 1978 studio version outtake. Notice bass and synthesizer.

  • this is A studio version...not THE studio version...so i guess both sides are right...it's probably a different take because there IS slight differences in the way plant sings certain lyrics...and please don't bite my head off if you disagree

  • The people saying that this is the studio version are lazy morons. Use your ears, you'll hear the differences.

  • No way this is live

  • The bass towards the end is really funky, something JPJ did not do a lot of within the framework of Zep music.

  • Definitely studio. A great tune but this is not live.....

  • hey, this is studio version...

  • Does any know where to get the guitar tab for this?

  • @Chiangmai007 There is a guitar pro tab for this song. You need guitar pro tho ! . Ive been learning it last week with my keyboard player.. Great fun.

  • @Chiangmai007 I play it by ear its mostly A C D F, that nice riff where it slows down is A then i think this chord 035400 or 035450, and that ascending riff is xxx787 xxx775 xxx775 xxx655 xxx433 xxx010 xxx232.

  • Thank you for your time, guys. Such interesting phrasing and transitions in this one. I love the crescendo of the song...so much momentum building up with the keys before the release of the guitar...like a heavy river giving way to dancing waterfalls. Check out The Reunion by Phil Keaggy. Its a different genre of music, but equally captivating in terms of its sheer imagination.

  • rip bonham well always remember you!!! september 25 1980 bonhams death

too bad you couldnt come to chicago :'(

  • I bet if Bonham would have never died and they went to the U.S. they would have RAPED !! but it never happened R.I.P. John Bonham you were and always will be ZEEE BEST!

  • this is not 1980. it was 1978.

  • this is stupid, just a muffled version of the studio.... close, but no cigar

  • You are stupid, this is the greatest thing I've heard in a long time. Go back to your Jonas Brothers dvd's.

  • nah man this is pre-mixing, you can actually understand robert plant here

  • @PaintedSidewalk It is not just a muffled version of the final release. There are many things that are very different on this. It seems like an early "composite". Maybe some of what we're hearing here ended up in the final version, but much of it did not.

  • With this particular rough mix, Bonzo's drums really pop. I can tell this is a rough cut of the studio version.

  • @Legacy76

that's probably THE very first thing that i noticed when i heard this !

    (i'm a drummer)

especially his bass drum...really nice bottom end and prescence.

  • I have worn out 3 In Through the Out Door CDs and even more cassette tapes. Most of this sounds like its from the original but there are some guitar tracks and other parts that are not on the original. This is one of my fave Zep songs and I think Jimmy got more tone out of his ax in this song than in any other song I have ever heard. Just mho. Its SO cool to hear this !! Cant thank you enough for putting this on !!!

  • COOL

  • JPJ is amazing

  • Thanx for diluting the song...so many programs....blah,blah,

    JPJ ruleZ on the sytetizer!!

  • This is just studio rehearsal

  • "ultra rare" lol :D

this really sounds epic, like the recording on In Through The Out Door.

Was that the very first time they performed that live?

  • It was never preformed live

  • my fail, I didn´t notice the first time I listened to this :)

after I had posted I discovered that, but I forgot to delete.

This song wasn´t performed life entirely, you´re right seanwashere6, but partly by Plant & Page shows in 1980ies and 90ies as I remember. At least I once heard some parts out of Carouselambra during "In The Evening" when performed life in Germany during the 90ies :)

  • No problem mate, it wouldn't sound that good live anyways

  • are ye really sure? I regret Zeppelin never performed "In The Light" live for instance. It would have been an amazing one...

  • Yea if they had the right audio, but little problems like that could ruin a song.. Maybe its one thing we probly won't ever know

  • on the other hand Zeppelin actually knew how to handle a song onstage. Either drug addiction or too much alcohol could stop them on stage :D Otherwise they would not have tried anyway. Like "In The Light", John Paul couldn´t manage to reproduce the organ sound live as he once claimed in an interview.

  • Yea but Jimmys guitar playing was coming back so I guess you had a point.. I really never could jam to "In The Light" but it is still a great song.. They were thinking of adding another guitarest though

  • they really wanted to add another guitar position? like malcom young on the rythm guitar? or a second lead? I thinkJimmy would have dismissed that sooner or later.

  • Well it was a thought can't remember where I heard it.. But its not like it was going to happen lol Jimmy is a great guitarest/man but another guitarest would cramp his style

  • I have yet to hear other drummers press roll like

Bonham does, The man was awesome!!!!

  • THE BEST!!!

  • awesome post. Jones said that Zeppelin was planning to do this tune on the US tour that they were planning before Bonzo died

  • sounds almost exactly like on In Through The Outdoor or should I dare say excactly

  • No, almost exactly. Several overdubs and effects are gone, rendering the vocals understandable. Unlike every other Zep song, the production was not amazing; the mixing was terrible, which is sad, because this song should have been spectacular.

  • IT IS THE RECORDING.

  • You're right... does sound just like the album version.... One of my favourite songs..

  • this isnt live ....hear plants overdubs...it the same song before it was remixed and more overdubs were made

  • They should have left Robert's laugh in on the beginning.

  • @PupuTheClown

    TotaLLy

  • better than the record. sounds like before guitar overdubs. This is def 1978 Nov-Dec. ITtOD could use a remix.

  • This is a studio out-take, not a live performance. I heard they were rehearsing it for the US tour that was cancelled when Bonzo died.

  • Yes it was supposed to be their opening track for the 1980 North America Tour! This would have been a nice opener i think!

  • lets hope sometime soon the band gets back together and this song is on the song list

  • Like others have said, this is identical to the released album. Not sure this is live.

  • This makes me realize that Plant's voice should have been louder on the final cut. He's pretty muffled in there.

  • Love this song, however, this is not 1980 but more like 1977. It is the original with tracks cut here and there, simple studio editing or a clip before final mastering. Definitely not live.

  • Thanks for sharing!!! I love this album (in through the out door) ,,so bad that it's not known

  • Fantastic, thanks for sharing !!!!!

  • What the fuck are you talking about? =.=

  • This would have been a great live song.

  • Besides moron, he overdubbed bass parts on the studio recording.

  • OK, I don't hear bass so maybe this is a real rehearsal... JPJ was a synth god. Damn good bassist as well.

  • That's because there is no bass on this song... you retard.

  • No shit? Did I not just say that? Worthless fucktard.

  • You all need to take some reds and calm down. (Miamad started it though by calling you a "retard." Not cool.)

  • Yes there is. He's playing the bass line on the keyboard. You can hear it if you listen closely. It's a little muffled, though.

  • hes playing the bassline on bass pedals with his feet.

  • In this case he overdubbed a bass line afterwards.

  • That would be Plant useing a Harmonizer,He Used it Heavily towards the End of Zeppelin,Especially at Knebworth 79 where he used it on a majority of the songs played.

  • Comment removed

  • this is the album version in shitty quality. nice try.

  • You clearly didn't listen to the whole thing.

  • Your not retarded or anything,Champ -.-

  • If that was sarcasm, allow me to point out your horrendous spelling efforts to contradict such an idiotic statement.

  • @LedZeppelinRareHQ sorry to say but it sounds like it, i cleaned up the distortion and replayed it next to the origional and its almost identicle

  • Yeah, fuck face!

    (j/k)

  • @undertakerfreak1127 indeed!...nice ear bro!

  • @undertakerfreak1127 i kow you commented on this a year ago,but you are right this is the album..what an ass

  • The entire rehearsal

  • I Only have Kashmir,White Summer/Black Mountainside and Achilles

I Will upload a shit load more some time this week when i have time =D

  • hey, Do you have this in a complete version?

  • Are you inquireing about the song itself or the entire rehearsal?

  • Very good. They should remaster this and release it.

  • Not true kind sir,It was rehearsed and was due to be played in the 1980 over europe tour but they later decided to drop it later one (more than likely after this reheasal) But apperently they were practicing this for the fall 1980 tour of the US Before bonzo died,But this is a legit recording of Victoria Theatre =)

  • damn. sounds to me like you did your homework on this band lol.

  • Are you sure? The Vic Theatre Rehearsal contained performances of Stairway, Kashmir, WSBMS, and ALS, and that is all.
