@SuperAncientmariner Yeah, and you don't see me arguing over stupid shit like this. I'm not claiming to know anything. I'm just saying why does everyone have to know it all?
I dont think he was taking off, i think it was a low pass along length of runway at flying speed, unless aircraft take off without flaps these days. (Opinion only)
@SuperAncientmariner I think he was intending to take off - still flying as he is passing the end of the runway, kind of gives it away, and if you look closely(approx 17sec.) the flaps are extended.
SuperAncientMariner. I had another look as you said to. I see the flaps extended, looking at the rear view of the plane also. If you don't see them extended, that's fine.
@beergut111 WTH are you talking about, what does an extra 35 feet have to do with directional stability. The extra 35' wont help you in an engine failure situation. I would rather keep the extra speed and extra acceleration from the much lower magnitude of induced drag and then pitch up to Vyse attitude if an engine pops... he's flying at least 40 kts over Blue Line already...
@beergut111 - Not likely. From the look of that runway, it's a short gravel runway, and the aircraft didn't need that much runway to take off. It had probably unloaded its cargo, and was empty when it took off again in this video. The aircraft was at max takeoff power and and once airborne,(unless the aircraft was overloaded, or iced up), at that speed, an engine failure would not prevent the aircraft from climbing out to a safe altitude before leveling off.
@beergut111 - Yeah, I do understand...and this aircraft in particular. After rotating, the aircraft would have already reached V2 by the time they crossed the opposite threshold. Engine failure or not, they're going to climb to the safe altitude. If this was an aircraft like a DC3 or similar, yeah directional control is tricky on an engine failure, but maintaining control in this aircraft would not be a problem.
@beergut111 - nope...however, I work for an airline who operates this type of aircraft. I actually spoke to one of our HS748 captains who has flown this aircraft for 10+ years, so I based my answers on expert knowledge of the capabilities of this aircraft.
worked as a weather observer and unicom operator in Moosonee in the upper tier of the terminal building (pre-1994)...had a Hawker take off R06, do a low left turn and come around and buzz the ramp...nothing like looking out those big windows and going eyeball to eyeball with a 748 coming at you...when it passed over the building could see the rivets in the belly metal of the aircraft.
and just if the pales hit you, then, the place would have been spread with your guts. Once again, as gavinleet said, you have huge cojones for standing there. Great video. 5 stars from me
look slike red lake but that isnt a low pass that is a takeoff the pilot raised the landing gear once he got to speed....either way takes guts to stand there, all it takes is for that plane to hit a downdraft and you would have been owned....good job
am i the only one seeing a plane taking off? the guy that filmed this was sitting at the end of the runway. of course it look like they were flying low, because they were just taking off.

7 1/2 or 15 degrees for takeoff in an HS748 (22 1/2 only with water meth armed). You can't physically select 10 degrees.
fingersmac 1 year ago
Yep, flaps at 10 degrees for takeoff 0:17 freeze frame.

@FlyingByDave I must disagree, if you follow through from 17 and look at the rear view, that wing is clean.

@jackfrostCA you dont understand, speed has nothing to do with it. there is a reason you climb at V2. directional control is the issue.

@jackfrostCA nevermind....you dont understand. v2 aint got anything to do with it. he's below 35ft. 2nd segement starts at 35ft.
its a turboprop....they aren't certified to part 25 standards. So once again.....if they popped and engine they'd be in deep shit here.
stupid pilot there.
