This is fantastic. I see these guys with my friends a few times back in the late 70's in the Chicago area and the shows were always great. This video brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks for sharing. One of my favorite Outlaws songs. Gonna have to break out a few records and do some spinning and listening.
Page always did some great jams, Allman Bros, etc, this is great stuff...I had The Outlaws Bring It Back Alive 30 years ago, still one of the best live albums ever.

From 5:25 until 6:39 changed my life forever but that just leads to 6:40 - 7:00 which makes this my favorite song of all time. To this day, I still cry once in awhile just from the sheer beauty of it. It's one of those things that will never get old and can never be out played. Not something you can say very often about the music of today.
The first few bars after the intro, at 0:50 make goose bumps on my arms.
One of my favorite pieces to listen to, and to play when I can find another guitarist to jam with. RIP Hughie, Billy, and Frank, I miss you. You live on forever in your music.
@bert111777 This was Hughie's song, listen to some of Billy's for his work. Both soloists were very equal, just different in styles. Sadly Billy Jones never made the reunion band, nor did Frank O'Keefe, as both died in 1995.
This song was dedicated by The Outlaws to the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band the rest of the Outlaws tour. This performance was the night after te plane crash killed Ronnie, Steve, Cassie and the others.

This would be in my top ten favorites if I could narrow down all the really great songs to ten. If I had to fill an ipod, this would certainly be on it.

Went to college in Sept 1980...small college, small gymnasium - I find out that the college student union hired the Outlaws to play one weekend in like Nov/December. They opened with "Ghost Riders" non stop Southern Rock...one of the best concerts I've ever been to...Hughie and the boys were great that day.
Saw these guys 5 times in Up State New York during the 70's and around 1980. By far my favorite band from the south. To this day I probably listen to them at least 3 times a month. I was stunned then pissed off when Billy took his own life. R.I.P. Frank, Billy, Hughie

@michaelpc420 NO DOUBT!!! whats funny about that is that over the years any time that someone has posed that ? to me,"whats my top ten favorite jams"? and being a guitar player myself Ive gotten that question pleenty and damned if this wasn't always the 1st song that came to mind, especially when considering songs that were the ultimate riff laden all out jam fest jams and makin it on the radio too, mind you. "THIS IS A TRUE ROCK AND ROLL MASTERPIECE"!!! What other epic jams u guys?BsdsFREEBIRD
1980 Stampede Corral, Calgary,Alberta.... The Outlaws opened for Black Sabbath led by Ronnie James Dio... it was a strange combo but rocked that ol' hockey arena to the foundation. RIP Hughie...
wish i could of been there, i remember when i first heard this song 10 years later on the radio, i went directly to the music store and bought the cassette.
This song is broken into "parts" because youtube cant contain the level of awesomeness. its got nothing to do with video length. what else do you expect when you put a song of this caliber on a site that is full of nothing but 13 year old pathological liars?
@MetricHotrodsdotcom Well said! Though I resent the age comment, as does anyone who is actually an adult and enjoys the outlaws at the same time.... No 13 yr olds here...
@MetricHotrodsdotcom good comment myfriend ,nothing can be said on youtube without an angry adolesent picking fun through childish comments ,which i might add they will look back on in years to come and feel ashamed, fantastic music timeless!
Back in, I guess 1990 or so I was stationed at Ft. Devens, MA. There was a bar in Ayer MA that held around 300 people and was the local concert venue. The Outlaws were scheduled to play there but there was a huge blizzard the day of the show and I was sure it was canceled. I drove out (ya gotta love four wheel drive) and when the band came out there was about 20 people there. Great show and I got to drink beers with the band after the shoe. It don't get much better than that...
@Hornadayfan The bass player at the time Jeff Howell is from my area and I played in a band with him for a few years. Still see him on a regular basis.
this concert was in the ol sam houston colisium on dec 31st 1977 with the outlaws opening up for skynard and marshall tucker. folks brought in fireworks into the concert. at midnight some ol man slide down sideways on a rope dressed in a diaper to bring in the new year?? all the bands were great, but I have to say that skynard tore it up as the closing act.

Hey Mavis41558 was there too in 76 buffalo with my older brother I was only 15 at the time but damn I miss the real rock concerts , and at 7 bucks a ticket! this is in the top 500 greatest rock songs of all time, and easily top 50 for guitar playing IMHO
I saw this band in 1975 at the Silverdome in Michigan. They warmed up for Seeger , Ted Nugent and Foghat. They blew these big names away. It is very hard to follow the Outlaws. It was all downhill after they left the stage. They rock and they make it look easy.
This is 10 years before I was born. When I was little my dad had cassettes of stuff like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, The Outlaws, Blackfoot, Charlie Daniels, and etc. He said to my mom, "I want him to know what good music sounds like." He tells me that story all the time, my mom still rolls her eyes to this day. Lol. She always like stuff like Heart, and Journey, and Pat Benatar, etc. and they both listened to country too, I grew up with a wide range of music.
Middle 70s at the Palladium in NYC on 14th Street. They blew the roof off, what a show. I actually remember the first time i heard this song. I was in a record store (yes record) flipping threw albums and this was playing through the speakers. I was drawn to the speakers and stood there in amazement. What a f@@#ing rocker of a song. A rock Icon.
i still have my 1980 concert shirt...i'm a metal head but i always loved southern rock...outlaws..charlie daniels...molly hatchet..allman bros...i saw the all..the old days were better
i saw the outlaws with molly hatchet and skynyrd two nights ago, and it was honestly the greatest concert i have ever been to! none of them have lost it a bit!
The three best songs that have long solos based over a three chord progression. 1. Stairway to heaven solo on the song remains the same. 2. Freebird 3. This song. oh, and an honorable mention goes to "I'd love to change the world" by ten years after. not the best solo, but that song is baddass to the core. There's probably better out there than these, but these ones sprung to mind. I can't listen to one without being reminded of the others.
1979 Giants Stadium: in mud and rain people ran for the exits. In ten miraculous moments, the headliners, the Outlaws came on, played this song, the crushing stopped and the sun broke blue over New Jersey. No sh>>t. I was pregnant at the time and my friend's husband was a roady with an infant up in the booth. We were in a corridor half crushed and.. honestly the skies opened.
@patty3173 I can't believe you posted this. I was there too. (Boston was the other band) No one can understand when you tell them about the weather that day. It was one of those moments when the clouds pulled back and the sun broke thru. I'm sure we are not the only two who has this burned to our memories. Thanks Patty.
@patty3173 I was at that show and you are right, it rained and it was hot! When they started playing this song the sun broke through the clouds and they paused and put their sunglasses on. It was *%%()%*&% awesome!
All my buddies know that when I die, they gotta chain all the amps and speakers they can find together and CRANK IT so I can hear it one more time! - wherever I end up...like "bowman" said in earlier post... no frills, no statements just PLAY THE SONGS!!! If it's good the peeps will buy it... MANY BOUGHT IT! And rightly so! Keep it simple - do it well - and they do!
When I was in high school I saw the Outlaws with Alvin Lee as the opener. Was probably the best concert I have ever went to. Both of them ROCKed!

It don't get much better than that...

this concert was in the ol sam houston colisium on dec 31st 1977 with the outlaws opening up for skynard and marshall tucker. folks brought in fireworks into the concert. at midnight some ol man slide down sideways on a rope dressed in a diaper to bring in the new year?? all the bands were great, but I have to say that skynard tore it up as the closing act.
