If you know the answer to this, I'll be so grateful: My blue guppy has been swollen for almost a month or more now. Her black spot is big and her under-side just before her anal fin is red! @GummyBearEatingZombi The Black spot is called a Gavid spot, which is one of the signs the guppy is pregnant, i've heard from other videos that it being red doesn't really matter, and sometimes it just happens. Of course, i'm just providing you with what i think is happening, but i'm quite sure that it's nothing. Maybe you would like a second opinion, though.

@lindsaybindsay1 Unfortunately, there is no emotional attachment between the mama fish and baby fish. My mama fish didn't eat her babies, but generally in the world of fish, big things eat little things. We can all thank our mothers that they are not fish. :-)
@superdataman Guppy grass will help if you have a fish that tends to eat her young. The newborns tend to sink to the bottom so cover the bottom third of the birthing tank with the grass, (there are several types, I found the ones that look like bottle brushes work well, use two of them) and remove the mother as soon as she's done.

I never liked those breeding traps. Best put the female in a little tank of their own and let her get on with it. But then, I know that's not always possible. Notice the males hanging around, The females are at their most receptive after just having given birth.

Right now they are in a breeding tank while the males are my main tank so i=they don't stress the mommas out.

@adam90spurs Get 2 or 3 male guppies for your 6 females...2 males is really all you need. Neon tetras and guppies will live together harmoniously. I had neon tetras for many years...very pretty fish. Guppies do not lay eggs...they are liver bearers. God Bless!

@SuperAnimalKid Having a breeding trap that floats on top of the water helps keep the babies from getting eaten when they are born. The one in the video is a "Marina 3-in-1 Floating Breeding Trap by Hagen" which you can get from a tropical fish store or order on the Web. You can also provide places for the babies to hide in the main aquarium, like bushy plants on the top and bottom of the tank. God Bless!

I just bought a red wag platy to add to my tank and I think she may be pregnant. She looks a little fatter than average. About half the time she just sits on the bottom (in places that are hidden). But she eats just as much as the others.
@superdataman how do you clean the bottom of the breeder tank out, mine gets dirty everyday and the only way i can do it is take the guppy out and clean it every day, yours looks really clean, is there a way of cleaning it without taking the female out?? sureley it will stress her out netting her everyday. i just want the botttom to be clean when they are born

@HesitatedLove Look under the fish the males have a fin shaped like a spike where as the females have a fin thats fan shaped (as with all livebearers). Also with Guppys the males tales are bigger and the body is slimmer. Male guppy is seen at 0.40 in this vid
@ddieDone Ive been a fish breeder for 20 years and they can range from a few upto and around 50 that the mother will drop after 21 to 30 days and can become pregnant again within a few hours of having a batch of fry. They can also store the males sperm for upto a year so if you ever put 1 female in a tank an a few months late she has babies dont think its an immaculate conception. Try to have more females than males about 1 male to 3 females as the males want to mate quite a lot.
@ddieDone you shouldnt have any problems and id bet you`ll get at least 1 female thats already pregnant so look for a dark spot of the females rear when shes looking quite chubby. I normally grid up some fish flake food into a fine powder for the young and they do very well on it
@ROBLES142K For the mama guppy in this video, it took about 25 minutes for all of the babies to be born. Much of that time was just the waiting time between baby that was born. I removed all of the waiting time to shorten the video and show the miracle of birth in compressed time. God Bless!

@KuvaPefo Some local pet stores may purchase your guppies. They may give credit toward other merchandise. This is a way to reduce your population. I started with 4 guppies and had 150 in 6 months. I ended up just giving them to a pet store so they could find homes. God Bless!

coooooool i got guppys to my femqale guppy is caleed chippy and she is pregnant she has 2 males one is black called storm one is orange na dhes caleed finny i had one more wich i really miss because he died yesterday in june 9 he was called sunny he was yellow and i have a tint auge sucker :)

@adam90spurs Get 2 or 3 male guppies for your 6 females...2 males is really all you need. Neon tetras and guppies will live together harmoniously. I had neon tetras for many years...very pretty fish. Guppies do not lay eggs...they are liver bearers. God Bless!

@SuperAnimalKid Having a breeding trap that floats on top of the water helps keep the babies from getting eaten when they are born. The one in the video is a "Marina 3-in-1 Floating Breeding Trap by Hagen" which you can get from a tropical fish store or order on the Web. You can also provide places for the babies to hide in the main aquarium, like bushy plants on the top and bottom of the tank. God Bless!

I just bought a red wag platy to add to my tank and I think she may be pregnant. She looks a little fatter than average. About half the time she just sits on the bottom (in places that are hidden). But she eats just as much as the others.

@superdataman how do you clean the bottom of the breeder tank out, mine gets dirty everyday and the only way i can do it is take the guppy out and clean it every day, yours looks really clean, is there a way of cleaning it without taking the female out?? sureley it will stress her out netting her everyday. i just want the botttom to be clean when they are born

Is it getting dirty with uneaten food or fish droppings? I only had my guppy in the breeding trap for about one day. Don't put her in the breeder tank too soon...it will stress her out. I watched my guppy for a few pregnancies to tell when she would give birth. Right before she gave birth the back, lower part of her belly looked like a hard corner angle instead of a rounded belly shape. She may start acting strangely like not eating or staying away from the other fish. God Bless!

2 of my Guppies look just the same as the one at 0:40. I was wondering if they're female or male. Cause females wouldn't be so pretty,right? But the black spot looks like a gravid spot to me O.o I'm confused,please help

@HesitatedLove Look under the fish the males have a fin shaped like a spike where as the females have a fin thats fan shaped (as with all livebearers). Also with Guppys the males tales are bigger and the body is slimmer. Male guppy is seen at 0.40 in this vid

@ddieDone Ive been a fish breeder for 20 years and they can range from a few upto and around 50 that the mother will drop after 21 to 30 days and can become pregnant again within a few hours of having a batch of fry. They can also store the males sperm for upto a year so if you ever put 1 female in a tank an a few months late she has babies dont think its an immaculate conception. Try to have more females than males about 1 male to 3 females as the males want to mate quite a lot.

@ddieDone you shouldnt have any problems and id bet you`ll get at least 1 female thats already pregnant so look for a dark spot of the females rear when shes looking quite chubby. I normally grid up some fish flake food into a fine powder for the young and they do very well on it

@ROBLES142K For the mama guppy in this video, it took about 25 minutes for all of the babies to be born. Much of that time was just the waiting time between baby that was born. I removed all of the waiting time to shorten the video and show the miracle of birth in compressed time. God Bless!

Omygosh! I FOUND A BABY OR 2 IN MY TANK THAT HAS ONLY 2 GUPPIES (plus shrimpies n snails)! And your video guppy had the same black patch at the back of its belly as mine does! Omygosh! XD I noticed they really liked eachother but WOW! This is so trippy! HEHEHEHE! Can I sell or give away the babies? and when? what do I feed them? HELP?! XD

@KuvaPefo Some local pet stores may purchase your guppies. They may give credit toward other merchandise. This is a way to reduce your population. I started with 4 guppies and had 150 in 6 months. I ended up just giving them to a pet store so they could find homes. God Bless!
