Grand Vitara can actually manage that type of ascent but ONLY if you prepare it properly. First thing you need to do is get the correct ALL TERRAIN tire or even mudders. That is by far the biggest mistake I see newby GV owners make with their cars. They think they can hit the trails with the city/pavement tires their GV came stock with. It won't work. 2nd thing is Rocky Road Outfitters LIFT KIT FOR GV. Only $300 and they will ship anywhere.
you are climbing the wrong way dude..next time try it with a little incline to the left or right..if you wanted to do it this way..you need a suspension lift..
why is people commenting about jeeps here??? tittle say grand vitara!and the guy of the video is not comparing jeep or other brand. people here are such trolls
@ravinduashan92 : Normally I don't approve or reply to such moronic posts. But, you need education. Firstly, it is a Grand Vitara, not a Jeep. Secondly, it is a full time 4WD vehicle. That means there is no 2WD mode in this vehicle, it is always in 4WD. Now, I know you are confused. You don't know much about 4WD. The Grand Vitara has open differential in the front and the rear axle. That means, if one side wheel starts slipping freely, the other side stops turning. That is what you are seeing.
In the GV, both rear and front differentials are open. That means, if one wheel on any axle loses traction, the other wheel will get no torque and will stop.
It's a retarded system. The rear wheels could have provided traction there.
Anyway, it's a dumb trial to do. Only a monster truck could have had the clearance necessary to get over that ridge without getting caught underneath.
This guy is only potentially harming the underneath.
Do you know anything about offroading or how differentials work? I have climbed this hill hundreds of times in my Jeep, and it is no monster truck. See my video response.
You need a suspension lift if you're going to be doing stuff like this dude. The GV is great offroad with upgrades but stock it's watered down for the cute-uters.
They sold only 2L version until now, starting this year 2.4L version would be available. That is why I now use a CJ340 Jeep for my offroading, it can go anywhere.
I've gone with my GV where Jeeps couldn't follow. I'd put that down to driver experience, but make no mistake about the GVs off road ability when compared to other off-roaders in standard form.
I don't use the Grand Vitara for offroading anymore, it is strictly for on-road use. For offroading, I have bought a Mahindra CJ340 Jeep which is a hardcore offroading machine.
wtf? i had this car as a loaner and i tried offroading and the Radiator got like 5 holes in it. ended up getting it towed for a new loaner. i thought it last longer than that....the hole was only like 2 feet deep
The tires seem to be the biggest problem, they aren't the right kind of rubber for such a challenging climb. Definitely not enough traction with that rubber. Excellent vehicle though, Suzuki's the the GV can easily get the job done with good rubber underneath.
It is a permanent 4WD vehicle. The climb was attempted in 4L with central diffs locked. The custom skid plates I recently added reduced the breakover angle, that explains the failure get over the ridge.
No, it doesn't have TCS. I broke the rear bumper in this effort. The 2.0L GV cost me around US$41,000 last year, that's the price in India. Replacing damaged parts is also an expensive affair. Instead I bought an used CJ340 Jeep for all my off-roading needs, now the GV is used strictly for family duties.

It is funny how people want to pass rude comments on a video I made as a newbie 4 years back. :-)

This is the most irracional comparison in 4x4, a short Jeep and a long Vitara...
I´m sure that you can put in your comparison the times you climb the hill in your foot.

do these new gvs have SOTF or AWD
SOTF=Shift on the Fly
AWD would be a major downfall for the GV line
SOTF would come with automatic locking hubs which lock the front and rear wheels which to me is better then a traction management system

Why the rear left wheel does'nt move???

In the GV, both rear and front differentials are open. That means, if one wheel on any axle loses traction, the other wheel will get no torque and will stop.
This GV is 2 litre version, with no TCS or EBD.

I thought, it was with electronics.

The jeep clearly has more ground clearance and a shorter wheelbase... I'm not surprised it made it.

If you had better tyres you would do that, my uncle has one and he does all things that I do with my navara and my Terrano II

Very difficult to get offroad accessories for GV in India. Now I offroad with my Jeep, see the video response above.

What the heck are you ppl expecting. It's not a tracked vehilce like a tank or something.
Neillil411 2 years ago
The grand vitara it's a great car for offroad, but there are some limits as the ramp angle. And you need a great ramp angle for this.
It's recomended use the 4L Lock for this climb and with ESP on is much betther.
Elcapitanfanegas 2 years ago 2
When you switch to 4L ESP is automatically deactivated. You can only use hill descent and ascent
19RedLineR74 2 years ago
My Grand Vitara has no ESP, no traction control and no EBD. It has 2L engine and stock highway tires.
BuntFencer 2 years ago
Pitty that they cut so much of the features.
I have the 3.2 V6. ESP BA EBD hill ascent and hill descent, full traction control. Really fantastic package.

There isn't any ESP/TCS in this model. This is a 2.0 plain jane Grnad Vitara.

Only the central diff was locked, the front and rear diffs are open. If one wheel in each axle spins, that will be enough.

You should buy the lift kit from rocky road outfitters. Adds 2.125 inches of clearance. only $225 or something cheap like that...
Does yours have traction control?
