People who live and take public transit in Los Angeles shouldn't complain and cry so much! Salinas and Monterey Transit cost A lot more and quit runing A lot earlier with Very few lines compared to MTA! LOL! MTA offers rail rides as well. This meeting has nothing but A bunch of crybabys.
These ppl have legitimate complaints. The Board acted in contradiction to the stated goals of our society. I don't doubt what you say about Salinas and Monterey, that's sad for them and the rest of us. The vast majority of the industrialized world has per capita oil consumption rates which are 40-60% lower than that of the U.S.'s. Americans can't afford the car as the primary mode of transportation anymore, this will become increasingly apparent.
I was living up in carmel and i would ride the fuckign bus from carmel to monterey and that shit was like 3 bucks 1 way and I had to wait 3 hours for that shit ! fuck that ! lol
The mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsome, who also has gubernatorial aspirations, called for this to be studied some time ago. I don't know what ever became of that. He may have just done it for publicity. I agree that it should be a social right. It definitely is an ecological, economic, and cultural necessity. It seems as if the time that it takes for our society to recognize this is slow.
Does anyone ever question if it would be worth just subsidizing transit 100%? I think the cost of infrastructure to create, implement fairs, and run the cost aspects are just as much as if it was just "free" to the public. I ride the bus, bike, train, drive little..I think we should just make mass transit in our cities a social right. It would get people out of harmful emission belching crap real quick
