@bobbyjudo I know that what I'm typing isn't the kindest things write during such a scary/serious time in Japan. I just wanted you & everybody else to try to see the reasons SOME people might have reacted that way upon hearing about it. I do though apologize if I offended you, and I hope that you and those precious to you stay safe in the aftermath of such a serious disaster.
On a side note, I do believe that Japan as a strong country, will recover and stop such a tragedy from occurring again.

Very nice video :) Don't be sad about your wedding. I was 18 when I got married. We only worried about paying for our attire, getting married, and gathering and having fun afterward. In the end everything else besides that doesn't matter :D
I agree about the Pearl Harbor Comments and everything else. WELL SAID! CHIN UP!
Everything was so well said...that I actually took the time to watch all of it and not just some of it. Great job and congratulations on your upcoming wedding :)
Congrats on the wedding!!! I'm sorry that the tsunami is affecting your ceremony (I mean sure its not a big deal compared to the tsunami and what people are going through but it's still your wedding day and its a day for both families to be joyous, I hope everyone will make it!!) I'm glad you and your friends and family are safe, Im glad Im not the only one who doesn't like watching the news, its so depressing and makes me feel helpless. But Im going to be donating soon ^^ Get some rest!
I am speaking from a Buddhist perspective here, to compare this time to that of Nichiren Daishonin (1222-1289). Great calamities hit Japan, one after another, and we are witnessing the establishing, in unity waves of common mortals, becoming Buddhas, by the simple effort of loving and supporting all of their neighbor in the homes of our SGI Family. Over 100,000 civilians died in Hiroshima & Nagasaki
It's sad that some see "Japan" just as a country, as an entity ...while it's not, it's a place full of people, that have a family and are suffering because of a natural disaster. People around the world just need to understand that.
@aLexiiaGe Tell that to all the Chinese people who had little girls, women, pregnant women, and old women gang raped for days on end until they were shot if front of their sons/brothers/father/husband. You could also give your opinion to the Korean people, who had teenage girls who were forced into sex slavery for the Japanese soldiers during Japanese 30years of occupation in Korea prior to WWII. By the way, unlike Germany who apologized and gave reparations, Japan NEVER has.
Again, you can't blame only one country for the horrors of their past and not blame others. As for Japan never apologizing, that's a common misconception. I'm PMing you a link with numerous specific instances, but you can also find them by searching japan apologies on wikipedia.
Media try to get more viewers/ratings for their network. They seem to feed on diasters. Individual reporters can be completely human in their response but so many have false sympathy. When they interview victims and ask stupid questions without reason & cause more trauma to the victims - something is very wrong with the media industry.
I got in an argument with a woman (yes woman, she was 42 years old) on the internet because she had the rude comments about pearl harbor and WWII, and I chose not to give it too much lip service but my closing sentence was "I had fun reading your hate comments towards me, I'm gonna go play nintendo now." Oh man was she fuming. I was proud of myself because I've never known the right way to stick it to someone until that very moment.
@artistgemini23 You do realize that she is the generation of people who lost their parents to WWII events like Pearl Harbor, right? Someone close to her could have been killed by the Japanese during the war and as a result she might bear a grudge against them. Would you make fun of a child who might hate a certain group of people, because a person from that group raped their mother? I truly hope not.
@Volf99 If she's 42, she was born in 1969. I've responded to your other comments too, but it seems like you're working awfully hard to defend hate. Can I ask, What group do you hate? And why?
I am glad that you did post a video. I am glad that you are safe. I really hate our news in the US. It's full of crap. It's depressing and alarmist. There was a time when journalism was respectful. I don't feel that way anymore.
I like your point of view :) I agree on most of the things. And I feel really bad to say this, when other people in other areas suffer a ot lot more, but watching the videos about jvloggers going through the same thing is about the only thing that calms me down atm. I'm totally alone here in Tokyo, no friends or family so those jvloggers are like my 'friends'..as pathetic as that may sound. I feel less alone and less scared thanks to those videos.
I agree, the media especially with figures is very confusing. The situation is undoubtedly bad but watching the news takes people's mind to a place they dont need to venture.
i don't have much to give but i'll donate what i can to japan. it's just so horrible that all this has happened and i hope everything will be back to normal as soon as possible. so anyone reading this, please donate what you can. every little bit helps!
Thanks for that. Even (especially?) Huffington Post is going apeshit with screaming headlines about meltdowns and the end of civilization as we know it. Sad.
Good to hear that you're in a safe area - best of luck with everything. I agree with you 100% on foreign media fear mongering, the Pearl Harbor comments (which literally make me feel ill), the Japanese bureaucracy that can be so stupid... It's frustrating. Thanks for the video, and I wish you the best.
Glad to know that none of this has made it down towards you guys. It sounds weird to say you know, but Im glad none of this is effecting the region you're in. Why on earth would they not accept sleeping bags? Thats just... wow.. especially since many of those people havent been able to get to a shelter to sleep in. They're going to need those. shit... sometimes.. SOMETIMES .. i think their officials priorities are a little out of whack. I've donated to the red cross and Im helping on twitter.
I already liked your videos and respected your well-thought out and presented ideas and other informative stuff, and now my respect for you is even greater. Well said. We lived in Sendai in the Summer of '07, but since we're not directly affected I'm in the same boat as you. Yes, it's made an impact, but who are we to be dramatic on behalf of people who really are suffering? It cheapens it for those who need empathy and help.
I don't get how people can suggest this is karma for Pearl Harbour. The Japanese could easily say Katrina or 9/11 was payback for Hiroshima and Nagasaki...it's ridiculous! We all need to help each other out, not fight.
@TheVillta There are people who lost loved one during Pear Harbor and as a result that can cause hatred for Japanese people. If your grandfather was murdered and your grandmother had to raise kids by herself during a time in America when it was looked down upon for being a single mother, let alone a women past the age of 25 with a job, you might bear a grudge against Japanese people for causing your grandmother to go through such hard times.
@Volf99 Against which Japanese people, specifically? How is that the fault of any Japanese person alive today? Are you responsible for what your forbears did 65-70 years ago? I understand that you're just pointing out how some people might think, but we're pointing out that that way of thinking is an emotionally and mentally stunted one.
@bobbyjudo I agree that it is not the fault of the average Japanese citizen, & I'm not trying to place blame on them. However I feel that its somewhat questionable for people who didn't have Pearl Harbor or any other conflict with Japan effect their family to tell other people who did lose loved ones to "just get over it". I'm not stating whether or not it is right that some people are bitter/prejudice because of the death of their loved ones, just that we should try to be understanding about it
@Volf99 The person you responded to specifically didn't say "just get over it." They compared calling the tsunami payback for Pearl Harbor to calling 9/11 or Katrina payback for the nuclear bombings. It's an extremely good comparison. Neither one of those assertions makes sense and they only work to misplace anger. The person you responded to was suggesting MUTUAL understanding, forgiveness, and cooperation. You're saying people have a right to hate... which is true, but... bad.
@bobbyjudo I was trying to describe what seems to be the general response on YouTube when people learn that Pearl Harbor is brought up with the earthquake. However, your right, this person didn't type that.
As for the right to hate..... yeah I agree with you its not a good thing, nor is it healthy to hold onto such strong feelings of blinded anger for another group of people.
@bobbyjudo When people do bring up things like WW2 upon hearing about tragedies like the earthquake disaster, I think that perhaps the best thing to do is treat that situation similar to how you would if you heard a grandparent you love whispered to you a racist/ignorant comment. That is by trying to understand that they mean well and their judgment might be clouded, while at the same time trying not to give any attention to the comment.
@bobbyjudo Stating people who feel this way are "emotionally and mentally stunted" seems a bit harsh. I'm not talking about the backwoods hicks that didn't lose anyone & are just trying to be jerks/racist, I mean the actual people that did lose loved ones to P.H. Also, rightly or wrongly, China & S/N Korea both still share similar feelings about Japan
Below is an example of Chinese reactions to the tragedy:
My viewers who are mostly friends and family where happy to see my face and my conditions at the moment. I hope my video wasn't one of the ones that offended you.
@Radrey Actually hadn't seen your video at the time that I posted this one. I haven't watched a lot of the people I usually watch, like Gimmeabreakman, or Japanarchist either. So you're safe from my self-righteous wrath.
Oh! And if you sew. You can cut the zippers off the sleeping bags and sew them back up if you are so inclined ! It may be a hassle but it's exactly what I would do.
Great to see you and your family are ok!!! OMG, I haven't heard about those comments on FCBK. As a German I have to suffer very often about such comments!
I feel pretty much the same like you do!
Wish you the best and hope that no aftershock will strike your region!!!
What did you do when that old guy yelled at you? I'm such I pushover I'd probably just crumble and shy away if that happened. The only thing I would think to say back would be about how Japan attacked first but I defintitly wouldnt want to say that!
well said about the pearl harbor comment..and yea, the "no sleepings bags" rule is silly. after all, both(blanket and sleeping bags) perform the same job.
good to know you're safe and sound! and wow, i had no clue you were married!
dude this was more than 2 cents.... i got at least 25 ¥ from it!!!you should do more like this....10:56 God say`s "Judo is right".... great vid, only one cut..... prayers work too.
Oh, and here, the local media has been looking for reaction from the local Japanese-Canadian community...and frankly, for the most part, I think it's tacky. Unless you're prepared to help them, stop wasting their time with ridiculous questions like "what was going through your mind when you saw the reports about the earthquake and tsunami?"
Congratulations on being married...I hope it's still a beautiful ceremony, and many of your family and friends can make the ceremony.
@andell1 i was on CNN.COM and watched another news outlet video on youtube..in both videos, the reporters go to the local japanese community to ask them what their reaction was when they first heard about it & watched it on tv. like seriously??? of course, every sane human being would feel the same thing which is to be either shocked, scared, afraid, and sad or a combination of all these emotions.....nothing new or unexpected. and guess what?the people being interviewed say the same thing!
Hey Bobby...nice to see you. I'm glad you are alright, and everyone you know is alright.
I hadn't been following the news so closely on Japan not because I didn't care, but rather because frankly, it's frightening...however yesterday I saw the tsunami sweep into an area...and it was mind blowing and heartbreaking to see what it was doing.
Haven't come across any fools suggesting this was deserved...but if I do, I would lash out at them. I'll try to get some money together to donate.
@xdabblex22 all you have to do is click on any japan earthquake or tsunami related video on youtube, and scroll down the comments, you are bound to run into several ignorant comments saying things like "this is karma for pearl harbor" or even mocking the japanese for a possible 2nd time radiation suffering...super disgusting, i know but that is the reality. there are a lot of ignorant racist trolls on youtube!
I hope that your wedding goes well, and that you get to see your family.
What happened to Japan is truly devastating. Sadly, all that we (in America and other countries) can do is donate and send our thoughts. Also, it's true, the news has been confusing and contradictory.
By the way, why were the people not "authorized" to take sleeping bags? What was the issue? Labeling?
The few people making the Pearl Harbor comments are disgusting. Thankfully, there are many others that truly care.
This weekend, many of my friends and I just raised a little over $1700 that will go straight to the Red Cross for Japan. It's a drop in bucket compared to the fortunes it'll take rebuild and recover. But what people should realize is that every cent counts. There is no donation too big or too small; action matters.
a few days ago I also came across someone posting on their FB about how it was payback for Pearl Harbor. I commented and told him that was really rude and ignorant of him to post such a thing. He deletes it the minute read my comment and puts on my wall, "Sorry, I forgot I had different nationality in my friends." which was also stupid because if I wasn't Japanese he probably would've still kept it up there or wouldn't have cared. ugh.
@bobbyjudo I 'll never understand why people blame a whole country. It's like saying Germans are all nazi's. That's retarded. the citizens shouldn't be accounted for what political leaders do...
It saddened me to have seen such comments about Pearl Harbor as well, how can people be so heartless? Anyways, my heart is with all the japanese and people residing in Japan... It's a strong and beautiful country, and they will get back on their feet, along with the support of the whole world. <3
@MitsukiAG You do realize that there are people lost loved ones during Pearl Harbor and as a result they may harbor a grudge against Japan, right? I'm not saying its right, but if my grandfather died in Pearl Harbor and his absence greatly affected my family, I would bear a grudge against Japan too.
@Volf99 Yes I do realise that but hey, everyone has lost loved ones all over the world and I think it would be a terrible waste of time to hold a grudge against everyone.
War is a terrible thing that kills way too many people that don't deserve it, end of the story.
Of course, if you want to keep holding a grudge, then I won't stop you, just hope those people can find some peace of mind someday :)
@MitsukiAG Well I don't personally hold a grudge against Japan or Japanese people, I just feel that its a very morally gray area when people start taking it upon themselves to decide how other people effected by war should feel about past conflicts. I personally don't agree with the idea the Pearl Harbor was the cause for the Earthquake, but I would never tell someone who has lost a loved one to the event, that they shouldn't hold a grudge and that they should "just get over it".
@dailyorangejews That hasn't even made the news in Japan. There was another similar eruption last month, and it didn't get national attention. Volcanic activity is pretty common for Japan, but then... so are earthquakes. I think it's just a matter of timing.

@Radrey There's a hint of guilty conscience there :P
Ciaela 11 months ago
@Ciaela things will probably be getting worse over here. I just don't want to offend anyone in the process.
Radrey 11 months ago
@Radrey True. Just take care of yourself so you can live to tell the tale.
Ciaela 11 months ago
@Radrey Actually hadn't seen your video at the time that I posted this one. I haven't watched a lot of the people I usually watch, like Gimmeabreakman, or Japanarchist either. So you're safe from my self-righteous wrath.
bobbyjudo 11 months ago
i know what you mean about the news...but it's hard for me to stop watching even when there are so many different opinions going on :(

Oh! And if you sew. You can cut the zippers off the sleeping bags and sew them back up if you are so inclined ! It may be a hassle but it's exactly what I would do.
TheWildPiper 11 months ago
Such a wide range of things to cover! But it was absolutely refreshing. So much noise right now.
TheWildPiper 11 months ago
There must be a reason why they didn't allow sleeping bags opposed to having blankets
essycc 11 months ago
Glad to know you're OK.
Here in Tokyo, we are still living with fears of aftershock and power stoppage.
But I'm ok too. Please take care of yourself.
Daviysoh 11 months ago
Glad you and your wife are safe.
Not taking sleeping bags IS pretty stupid...
Take care.
markshmily 11 months ago
Great to see you and your family are ok!!! OMG, I haven't heard about those comments on FCBK. As a German I have to suffer very often about such comments!
I feel pretty much the same like you do!
Wish you the best and hope that no aftershock will strike your region!!!
chrismecking 11 months ago
What did you do when that old guy yelled at you? I'm such I pushover I'd probably just crumble and shy away if that happened. The only thing I would think to say back would be about how Japan attacked first but I defintitly wouldnt want to say that!
ColdUndecided 11 months ago
Cheers for attaching this to my video mate. I will hopefully see you this weekend :D
Entropy102 11 months ago
well said about the pearl harbor comment..and yea, the "no sleepings bags" rule is silly. after all, both(blanket and sleeping bags) perform the same job.
good to know you're safe and sound! and wow, i had no clue you were married!

Congratulations on being married...I hope it's still a beautiful ceremony, and many of your family and friends can make the ceremony.
andell1 11 months ago
@andell1 i was on CNN.COM and watched another news outlet video on youtube..in both videos, the reporters go to the local japanese community to ask them what their reaction was when they first heard about it & watched it on tv. like seriously??? of course, every sane human being would feel the same thing which is to be either shocked, scared, afraid, and sad or a combination of all these emotions.....nothing new or unexpected. and guess what?the people being interviewed say the same thing!
heomak 11 months ago
Hey Bobby...nice to see you. I'm glad you are alright, and everyone you know is alright.
I hadn't been following the news so closely on Japan not because I didn't care, but rather because frankly, it's frightening...however yesterday I saw the tsunami sweep into an area...and it was mind blowing and heartbreaking to see what it was doing.
Haven't come across any fools suggesting this was deserved...but if I do, I would lash out at them. I'll try to get some money together to donate.

Never heard about the "Pearl Harbor" but thanks for bringing that up. It's amazing how some people can be so ignorant.
xdabblex22 11 months ago
@xdabblex22 all you have to do is click on any japan earthquake or tsunami related video on youtube, and scroll down the comments, you are bound to run into several ignorant comments saying things like "this is karma for pearl harbor" or even mocking the japanese for a possible 2nd time radiation suffering...super disgusting, i know but that is the reality. there are a lot of ignorant racist trolls on youtube!
heomak 11 months ago

I hope your wedding goes great!
and congrats :)
a few days ago I also came across someone posting on their FB about how it was payback for Pearl Harbor. I commented and told him that was really rude and ignorant of him to post such a thing. He deletes it the minute read my comment and puts on my wall, "Sorry, I forgot I had different nationality in my friends." which was also stupid because if I wasn't Japanese he probably would've still kept it up there or wouldn't have cared. ugh.
koisuruotome 11 months ago 9
@koisuruotome Yeah, there's no excuse for it.
bobbyjudo 11 months ago 7
@bobbyjudo I 'll never understand why people blame a whole country. It's like saying Germans are all nazi's. That's retarded. the citizens shouldn't be accounted for what political leaders do...
It saddened me to have seen such comments about Pearl Harbor as well, how can people be so heartless? Anyways, my heart is with all the japanese and people residing in Japan... It's a strong and beautiful country, and they will get back on their feet, along with the support of the whole world. <3
MitsukiAG 11 months ago
@MitsukiAG You do realize that there are people lost loved ones during Pearl Harbor and as a result they may harbor a grudge against Japan, right? I'm not saying its right, but if my grandfather died in Pearl Harbor and his absence greatly affected my family, I would bear a grudge against Japan too.
Volf99 7 months ago
@Volf99 Yes I do realise that but hey, everyone has lost loved ones all over the world and I think it would be a terrible waste of time to hold a grudge against everyone.
War is a terrible thing that kills way too many people that don't deserve it, end of the story.
Of course, if you want to keep holding a grudge, then I won't stop you, just hope those people can find some peace of mind someday :)
MitsukiAG 7 months ago
@MitsukiAG Well I don't personally hold a grudge against Japan or Japanese people, I just feel that its a very morally gray area when people start taking it upon themselves to decide how other people effected by war should feel about past conflicts. I personally don't agree with the idea the Pearl Harbor was the cause for the Earthquake, but I would never tell someone who has lost a loved one to the event, that they shouldn't hold a grudge and that they should "just get over it".
Volf99 7 months ago
@MitsukiAG I hope that wasn't to long of a reply and what I typed made sense.
Volf99 7 months ago
what about the volcano in Kyushu?? Will you be safe??
dailyorangejews 11 months ago
@dailyorangejews That hasn't even made the news in Japan. There was another similar eruption last month, and it didn't get national attention. Volcanic activity is pretty common for Japan, but then... so are earthquakes. I think it's just a matter of timing.
