  • Nice catch!

  • I took pictures of one of these at s. Station too

  • so its about the same loudness at the horns on the cab cars?

  • If the horn isn't fouled yes... if it is then no, its not as loud as this one

  • This is probably one of the new mbta switcher locomotives. Is the horn on the switcher louder than on the F40PH and GP40MC passenger locomotives? Or is it about the same sound level?

  • Its fairly loud, but not as loud as the K5LAs, especially the ones on the geeps. I jumped because it was right in my face.

  • I think as long as they don't have mechanical problems the GP40's n F40's are perfectly fine.

  • :O He waved! ...yay! :D

  • What company makes those E Bells?

  • yeah they could, they need to buy more engines fairly soon except they hardly have any money.

  • Electrics for the Providence line!

  • @TNT314159 They could buy a HHP-8 or AEM-7 off of Amtrak! Like 918 or 917 (That I got 3 saah's from today) I would love to see some MBTA AEM-7's! They should buy like 909 or 904 or some shitty one **Cough 948 Cough**

  • The original problem is that the MBTA likes to swap equipment between the Providence line and other lines. Even electrifying the Stoughton branch would cost a ton of money.

  • Like a railroad museum in new England or any railroad museum in America.

  • Neat locomotive! The MBTA should try using those P40-series Genesis locomotives like Amtrak uses, too.

  • They don't make those anymore. GE might make an evolution series passenger locomotive though.

  • Maybe, but MBTA could repaint one of Amtrak's older Genesis locomotives in the MBTA colors. Besides, the current GP40-MCs they use were made in the 1970s, and the North Side F40PHs were built in the 1980s. The newest locomotives they use are those F40PHs with the same GP40 paint scheme, which are on the South Side

  • How about some electrics for the Providence line?

  • Electric MUs maybe. Then they could pull them with regular coaches behind a diesel. Or an ALP-46 (?) that is can run of catenary or diesel.

  • Oh yeah I forgot to tell you why I said something that could be used with a diesel. The MBTA isn't very interested in Electric engines because the like to be able to use all of their equipment on all of their routes. I think MU cars would be the way to go especially because they are planning on buying more coaches anyway. It makes more sense to combine them. At least to me.

  • I don't think so. Many track routes for the MBTA do not have overhead wires or third rails, so only trains using diesel locomotives can go on those tracks.

  • But they don't have Genesis locomotives from Amtrak. I doubt Amtrak would sell any to the T because with money from the Stimulus package they are taking them out of storage and will be using some of them again. The T is very low on money right now. Even the attempt to purchase ex- GO Transit fell thru. They have recently requested permission to buy new locomtives again. If its the same as the last attempt it will probably be either MP36s or spanish Vosshola(?) diesels.

  • whoops I meant to say MP40s. IDK maybe they still make the MP36s. Also I forgot to say the GP40MCs were rebuilt in the 90s with HEP, etc. Also with desktop controls which I hate.

  • Engineer was awesome, this is a wicked good video babe!

  • That looks like a brand new paint job....Sweet the MBTA has money again...fix the Green Line!

  • What about it?

  • Were you at South Station today? 'Cause I'll be there tomarrow!

  • I was there yesterday (Sunday), are you going to be railfanning there or taking a train somewhere else?

  • I just rode the Regional from South station to New York Penn. I only had time to film one train at south station, but had quite an adventure on the regional! The AEM7 had HEP problem and we had to switch engines at New Haven!

  • Friendly Engineer!

  • It's neat how they have front and rear facing controls and horns on both ends!

  • awesome nice horn too and wave

  • Nice recording
