498a is NOT for any kind of cruelty. The primary ingredient of 498a is DEMAND FOR DOWRY. And the cruelty should be of such a nature that would force the woman to suicide of make grave injury to health. This is very close to a murder attempt, not everything come under 498a. Supreme Court has clearly mentioned this in various judgments.
