How durable has that paint been for you? Im wanting to paint my saiga 12 when I do my conversion but dont want something that will get scratched or mared up easily.
@Jerdel100 So far so good. VERY minimal marking even from where the magazines insert into the magazine well. When I say very minimal I really mean that, you need to be in good light and look up close to see any wear. I am getting ready to Duracoat my next AR build entirely
Duracoat is a good product, just dont buy it from Duracoat Firearm Finishes Direct the guy who runs this web site Anthoney G Houts has zero coustemer service skills and is rude as hell in his emails witch is the only way he will deal with you he does not have a coustmer service number. All I wanted to do is give him my business and he acted as if he didnt care, avoid him at all costs.
nice job! i have same setup and just opted for magpul p mag magazines, they look better and are more durable, and depending on the firearm usually fit and function better
Great video. Looks great, well explained. Can't wait to try it out. Did you have to use any thinner and were you using a compressor or bottled air? Thanks.
Does using paint thinner from the hardware store in relation to purchasing the reducer from LCW have any difference? I've tried searching online for answers and come up empty handed.
Great vid man, i just duracoated my mag's (two 30 round and two 20 round), grip pod and quad rail with magpul dark earth. Your video was a lot of help!
Outstanding tutorial man. Very thorough and encouraging. Now that it's some months past, how has the paint held up against the contact with the mag well?
@pokebreaker There is some small scratching where the metal meets in the magazine well but it is not bad at all. You honestly cant even tell because it is only where the top few inches meet inside the mag well and as soon as you pop it in it looks good as new
really nice vid. Judging by your spray technique, you got a really nice result. I think it might be time to get those small parts DC'd too. I think a med dark grey on the selector, bolt catch, mag release parts, and pins would give the rifle a nice aesthetic contrast. Maybe drk grey up the charging handle? But leave the latch black? It'd look pretty sick! The bolt carrier would look sick in flt dk earth too. Thanks for the vid Its motivating me to try it on my boring black gun. Thanks!
Does the coat of Duracoat make the magazine any tighter in the magwell? I am looking at Duracoating a VZ-58, but since its a rare rifle, there aren't as many videos on it so I have to assume a lot.
Is there a reason you like the old metal mags? Magpul sells the FDE color polymer mags. There are a very nice match to all of your magpul furniture. Plus they will never dent or scratch.. All in all, nice video..
@MrArmystrong69 Like I said in the video the only real reason I painted the mags was for cosmetics. When you have 10-20 magazines it is much easier and MUCH cheaper to DuraCoat them rather than buy all new magazines...
Great job on the duracoat project. Thanks for taking the time to make the video tutorial so that others can learn from it. Thanks for sharing and posting.
Glad to see some OD green! I know in the past two decades we have been in Iraq and Afghanistan so tans are more popular, but green is more useful where I live (except for a very snowy winter).
I have never Duracoated before but I have done other kinds of painting. Did you find any swirl marks after prepping the material like that, or did the Duracoat pretty much cover all of that up?
Great vid Boyer! You did your research for sure because you spoke really well about it. Good luck with future projects, and let us know when you get the buisness up and running. Thanks man.
@usmccapdevil Remember that you are going to need more DuraCoat for AK mags vs AR mags. With a 4 ounce bottle of DuraCoat I have done 12 magazines and could most likely do another 5 or so. Not sure how many you have but if you have more than 10-12 AK mags you will most likely need more than a 4 ounce bottle of paint.
@350cutlassrocket This was my first DuraCoating experience... and your fear is true. I look at so many things and want to DuraCoat everything! In a few months I am going to get my certificate to be an authorized DuraCoat painter. Soon I will DuraCoat the entire world lol
@usmcboyer how well does the duracoat hold up on the mags?
SonsOfLiberty65 5 days ago
Should of just bought magpul fde pmags, cheaper than buying a spray Gun, paint, an all that stuff an using all that time.

@TJL4970 No problem man, glad this helped. The only time that I needed to use thinner was for clean up.

@thegewehrguy I have not had any problems at all with the magazines being tighter. They drop exactly the same as they did before the DuraCoat.
