When will the Americans dispose of their greedy elite and realize that life was never about expansion and power, but to be a good and free individual? That liberty is not liberty when it is only liberty for the few? When will the Americans raise and do all the things they stand for in movies and fancy songs? Liberty .. it is a word not made by flags, songs and movies. But lived.
This saddens my heart still to know that we kanaka maole was grossly outnumbered and a whole nation stolen by greed.Thank you for sharing this video. It's very nicely done and told. Mahalo nui.
No that flag was not cut up into ribbons. Dayne Aipoalani has it on Kauai, passed down through the line of the Alii. The flag is shown to groups from time to time. I have seen it myself.
The US didnt take over Hawaii first it was those missionaries. May god burn them for there evil deeds. Hey guys it would have bin worse we should be in a Hawaiian republic with no freedom of speach ect. Im happy to be american hawaiian :)
@POTCMarc101. We're always lead to belive that the missionaries we're the beginning of the end. But that's not true in this case. In most of coloninal history, its true. But in Hawaii's case, that is not ture. Our Royals told us to learn from them. And we must do what the Ali'i says. What took place in 1893 was not an act of missionaries things, but an act of betrayal against Her Majesty and Her government. And also a violation of treaties between the United States and the Kingdom.
***Great Grandfather ...was there when American plantation owners backed by US Marines started marching to the Queens Palace. Great Grandfather was Capt. Max Schlemmer of The Hawai'ian Rifles. The Queens police force..
@kilana1986. Hear, hear! How can our own citizens betray their people, not to mention their country and Her Majesty? Above all, how can a foreign government, who knew morally what their ambassador had done was wrong, pretend it did not happen, and just took the nation for their own selfish gain? One day, I'm sure the national flag will re-take its rightful, lawful position on the mast! I just hope when that flag is flying at top-mast, I just hope the people of Hawaii "understands eachother"
i live in hawaii but am from mainland and my parents are from lebanon. i can imagine what it's like to live somewhere you know your blood had been for hundreds of years. i went to lebanon once. it was a really amazing feeling, knowing my history and i wish i lived there..even tho there is violence and poverty. hawaiians should know their history bc the feeling i have about lebanon is such a mighty feeling.
Well all I say is that Hawaii is not legally a part of the United States due to lack of proof that there is a treaty of annexation agreed by the Hawaiian Kingdom. Well, the Hawaiian Kingdom didn't support annexation to the US. An investigation by other countries is currently being held in the United Nation. The Kingdom of Hawaii is being planned to be restored and disconnected from the US.
@taatataharuu. Well, I hope when and if our government does get restored, I just hope we, the people of Hawaii of all multi-ethnic backgrounds are united together as one nation, one nationality which is Hawaiian! And we must do it in a non-violent way! America has not only destoryed our country, but has also destoryed the peaceful co-existant balance of its people!
American arrogance!!!!!--if someone else did this,we would be up in arms, but it,s ok cause it was done by America--We Americans have our skeletons in closets too.
Look before all you YouTube commentators judge me for saying this, let me that even though the US did to the Hawaiian(now Hawaiicans) was fucked up because the US lost their kingdom, let me say that if the US didn't do it,the Japanese, the French or the Dutch would have done it as well. Also since Hawaii became a state in 1959,they've been better living as a US state than being independence.
You are right pow, why didn't america go to germany before ww2 and kill jews since the germans were going to do it otherwise, and how usefull is freedom anyway?Dumb ass
I as a Chrisitan white American ask for forgivness from America, missionaries and all who have sinned against the Queen, the Hawaiian peope, and God himself, in Jesus name I confess, repent and ask for forgivness Blessings Leslie
I know it sounds bad to say as an American but I cant help to think how wrong our presence there is intrusive, wrong and down right wrong. Look at what our influence has done to this beautiful island nation. Does anyone foresee Hawaii regaining its sovereignty ever? Being there is wrong!
Here as it stands the truth of what had happened to our Queen, and what? Nothing will be done, Instead they produce another movie, Princess Kaiulani... If only the queen new that all the polynesians was ready to unite for war, we would have had our islands back. What a way to succeed victory. Theft is what it is. Too bad. Kanaka Maoli's are for ever. Much love for our people.
@estellelight Decendants of New England's protestant missionaries were the ones who got into the business life and wanted Hawaii to be part of the US.
I am Native Hawaiian of a chiefly line, but errors occurred in the Kalakaua dyanasty that sealed the Kingdom's fate. Both Kalakaua and Liliu were extravogant in their spending and they were incompetent as rulers. Strong willed, stubborn and impulsive. This lead to concerns by the Hawaiian community. Her attempt to initiate a revised constitution that would give her more power was of concern, since the dynasty was already impetuous. Liliu's signing of abdication concluded the revolution.
Incredible story...she has always been one of my favorite biographies in history. How sad that man dominates man in this way...truly heartbreaking!!!!
