we stayed there feb/march 2011. Awesome place staff was amazing. (hello Antonio/poolwaiter) Never had a problem with theft. Place was very clean The resort was FULL and they worked around the clock to keep it clean. Best resort food on the maya so far (this was our 3rd resort) Entertainment staff are very talented. Go see the shows...have a cappachino..they are amazing. It is very large, but you figure out the rhythm (beach/pools- morning afternoon Restaurants/shows - evening)
@ZRaden The Riviera is the one that had the explosion, not the Sunset. I'd not seen anyone post about thefts from their safe, not sure how that is possible given you choose your own code and its all electronic.
The Grand Sunset Princess is also know as The Grand Riviera Princess. There 2 of the same buildings build identical that have different entrances. The upgrade package/building is the one that exploded. We were staying in the Sandos Caracol the same week it happened and picked up passengers from the Princess getting first hand what happened. Really terrible. The fact the the 2 buildings are built identical in every way makes me wonder when the illegal gas line under the second is going to pop?
@Caramellady Despite the fact that they use digital safes in the room means nothing. Certain employees are given a master code to use to open the safes when guests leave a locked safe on check out or forget there own code during there stay. You can set your code to what ever you want. There master over rides it, hints the invention of a product Milockie i believe its called. If you go to tripadvisor you will find a lot of people complained about in room safe theft from the Princess. Really sad

Was tempted ..... til it blew up. Plus all the reviews from guests about theft from there in room safe really put me off.
