@SSTTEEAALLTTHH that the point of this movie people like this already exists and countries will soon be like this like in america they tried to pass a law giving them control to blacklist websites
@SSTTEEAALLTTHH the truth is we all could be watched right now. every government has it secrets. the iphone has a finder thing in it so u can find friends phones who to say that not just an other accuse.
if you really look at everything you can see your being brain wash from kids toys - the church.
True. States are very dangerous organizations and they are enabled by people following orders. Most of the evil in this world is caused by money or the fact that people follow orders and stopped thinking for themselves.
Funniest part of the movie, you can really see Stephen Fry's own brand of comedy shinig through. I mean this is somthing I could see Fry doing in his own show. He really suits Deitrich's role perfectly.
Also, imagine if he or someone else had've done this with Bush and Bin Laden back when the war was still taken seriously!
I love this scene. The bit that comes after it just contrasts so well. I was wondering how long it is before Ian Hislop is dragged out of his house by soldiers for "Have I Got News For You". One of these days, Cameron is going to snap...heheheh. :P
@BuecherFuerAlle It just happened to be Sutler's favorite drink--not to mention it helps to put forth a pretty wholesome image of someone who, for all intents and purposes, is a monster.
@BuecherFuerAlle Milk isn't outlawed, it was just a reason to show the 'scantily' clad females more, since nearly everything in the scene it meant to nark off a person who is portrayed as an extremely religious, straight laced individual.
@Penningtontj i just thougt, since earlyer in the movie evy mentions that she hasn't had any butter since she was a small child. i thought there was a connection.
@BuecherFuerAlle - You are completely right about the milk. Milk and butter are not available for common people anymore. V actually states that he stole his from "a personal train of supplies on its way to a Mr. Adam Sutler." It was just the same with bananas in East Germany, by the way. My history teacher even said that at political receptions in the GDR, fruit bowls were avoided in press photos! They feared that seeing the unaccessible wealth of the politicians might anger the common people.
@Selinja yeah, thats acutally what made me think that it's outlawed. it just never specifically gets established. i mean, of course. he did state that he stole it from the supply train. but that doesn't mean he didn't just do it for shits and giggles.
As far as the GDR goes. Let's just say we save that discussion for another occasion. shall we?
I just saw this movie this week at my school in social class, and when the music started playing at that part, I knew at the instant it was yakety sax, but my social teacher didn't. either way, this scene will be another thing I'll look back on and laugh.
It's hard to believe that his old comedy partner is Hugh Laurie AKA TV's Dr Greg House, haha. If any of you have never seen this comedy pair, I highly recommend looking them up. Frick'n hysterical.
@TheLolbot3000 he might have gotten away with it if not for the scene at the end where the chancellor is V. Also this cuts out a bit at the start where the audience is shown to be applauding because soldiers are pointing guns at them. Plus Sutler is a pysco.
Though this may seem like a bit of a stupid question (and I'm pretty sure that I know the answer already)-- but was that John Hurt (the actor who played the actual Sutler), playing the two impostors (I'm almost certain the answer is yes, but I want to make certain)?
Would help if you spelt things correctly. I assume you mean soviets? ( Referring to communism I assume ) Of which is highly incorrect and shows your stupidity as this film's government is Fascist not Communist.
Which means it emulates Nazi Germany more than it does Soviet Russia-- and what makes that mistake all the more funny is that philosophically, Nazis and Soviets are bitter, bitter enemies, as well as being completely opposite on the scale (Fascists being extreme right, Communists extreme left).
this part of the movie made me go OH SHIT and laugh nervously, because I was immediately concerned about what would happen to gordon after it aired, while finding it simultaneously hysterical.
it also shows how when people are living in fear, how very much they need laughter to cope.
Man, this was such a bad idea! My favorite part is how he's like, "Oh, it was just a joke, I'm sure it'll be okay." Then, cut to the next scene, and he's getting beaten to death by thugs.
i think that's one of the thingds that makes the movie so good...that you're laughing one minute (i was during this) and minutes later, you're crying (i cried during Valerie's letter)..
@kidlucius Yeah, but it showed the people that someone was willing to stand up to the Chancellor, and I think that set the stage for the rest of the movie. He was brave for airing that show.
