Snorkeling With Manatees at Crystal River, Florida

Prior to our manatee encounter, we were shown a mandatory safety briefing prepared by the Fish and Wildlife Service (a federal agency) and we complied with regulations. "All" forms of interaction are not against the law.

All forms of interaction with manatees are against the law. Can't you just admire them from a distance and if they approach you ignore them? When you touch them, they get imprinted to humans, and swim up to boats, and increases their chances of getting hurt.  They are an endangered species.

The manatee liked being scritched. It rolled over so we could get at especially mossy areas.
