  • I really like solo blue but i cannot play continously and how to go on my ideas

  • video size is tooooooooo big

  • Emaj7 would have a D#. E7 would just be D. HAH!

  • EXCELENT!

  • I fuckin hate commercials..

  • To confuse you even further:

    In the key of E, the 1, 3, 5 and 7 notes would actually be E, G#, B, and D#.

Once you wrap your head around some music theory, you will begin to understand...

  • @ShadowHighFive ..i can only agree but it's not easy to convince people how usefull theory can be ;)

  • @thisisnotjustinhi because a chord is based off of the 1rst 3rd and 5th of a scale in e the notes would be e,g,b, going from (e) f (g) a (b) to get the seventh chord you add the 7th note wwhich would be (e) f (g) a (b) c (d)

  • how do u make that A7 and that E7 chord?? I just couldnt get it =/

    thx

  • @Daniel7cmr E7 is basically an open E string, seventh fret on the A, sixth on the D, and then seventh on the G and B. to play A7, just move that shape down two frets and up 1 string, to the low E string. Hope this helps.

  • @hiphopsucks96 thank you very much!! U helped a lot

  • so sorry for this stupid question, but i looked up a A7 chord and it looks nothing like the one justin plays in this vid. WTF is the A7 that he plays?

  • @RockySeven7 It's just another way of playing the chord.

  • was skeptical when i read "free" but he's pretty clear in his teachings. I wouldn't have a problem purchasing some of his lessons. Great guy to put up the lessons on another site for free

    Fantastic lessons ! Thanks

  • Fantastic

  • i like all your lessons you are great : ) thanks for being a nice guy

  • i love telecasters.... btw, great tutorial, justin :-bd

  • if you were to end the lick on the IV chord, would the tune end or repeat? to me it sounds like the tune would want to repeat

  • Only a matter of time before Lebron leaves bing and joins forces with google and facebook.

  • Awesome, thank you very much for sharing your leaks man, I needed some Endings for one of my song and foud one of your to adapt it, it sounds great now!

Thanks again and keep on teaching the guitar, you do it very well!

  • @sachboulb licks

  • Thanks,Bro!!!! xD

  • CC > Keep going = Cape Town

  • Wouldn't i be an imperfect cadance when 4-5 or 1-5? Idk, I like Jazz so it sounds like an ending to me but meh.

  • Hi, I have a question, the licks you introduced, contain notes from different scales. The same situation in the standard 12 bar blues, you introduced in other lesson. Why? I'm not experienced player , sorry if this question is stupid, but I suspected notes only from blues scale.

  • Comment removed

  • WTF at the ending?

  • ur lesson is good, but you're quite weird

  • So it's the 1st chord you should end on?… 1st chord in the key (like A in key-A)

  • @joriszsz Yes. It all goes back to your basic ii, V7, I chord progression. A (I) is the root, and by playing the E7 (V7), you're building tension because the interval creates a tritone. This tritone needs to be resolved, and the only way to do that is to play the root sometime afterwards. This method works in every key, so if you play that same ii, V7, I progression in C you play Dm, G7 and then C, but play around. You can add any number of chords in between.

  • best instructor on you tube

  • eyyy justin how u doing? i have a question, i have a magz, that show the blues scale around all the fret board, my question here and talking about freedom expression its, if im not playing the exact notes of the blues scale then im not playing blues? i saw guitar players combine rock with blues, but talking just about blues, this blues pattern in my mag its my roadmap?, u said in one of ur vids that blues its like a lenguague so it has an structure right? .ty very much.

  • спасибо !!! :)

  • good lesson. thanks

  • thanks for the tricks

  • i like your style of playing and teaching

  • Great lessons

  • Thanks for the lessons

  • gotta love the tassie devil

  • Hey, what is the final chord you keep playing? I've tried so many chords on my guitar but no chord sounds the same to yours. It's driving me absolutely crazy. =[

  • i can keep going after that...not hard at all..

  • merci!

  • "allowing himself to be too restricted"? wow, we all want to hear your blathering (not) this is a beginner's instruction and it is put together very nicely. If you want to get philosophical and deep about the blues, you might want to look elsewhere for an appropriate forum.

    Just sayin'

  • lick number 1 sounds (slightly) like something from red house

  • i knew it sounded familiar

  • @jebusbeefgrill I'm pretty sure it's Sweet Home Chicago.

  • Wow..Justin,....really great instruction! I actually copped a new ending from you!...and for free!.....

    :)

  • Gracias "predicador". Si hablaras menos serían las mejores lecciones de internet.Gracias de todas formas.

  • He makes a good point - but on the other hand, he is allowing himself to be too restricted. Actually, it IS possible to play the ends exactly the opposite from what he said, and make it sound good and right. It's all in the phrasing.

One of the things about the blues is that you SHOULD be able to think outside the box - quite a bit. Not in the unmelodic way some jazz tends to be, but definitely not as rigid as he is describing here.

  • of course blues is a lot more free - but you can't teach "freedom" :)

  • True enough. Keep up the good work.

  • Tell that to William Wallace in Braveheart!

  • @JustinSandercoe yeah i love my songs to be as much of a mess as possible... have a look at my channel mate.

  • @JustinSandercoe What you did in this comment was exactly yhe same thing you did in this lesson at 1:47.

  • @JustinSandercoe I have always wanted to say that! You put my thoughts in order.. thankyou.

  • @JustinSandercoe What I mean by that is that for some reasons our brains don't do things until they are said out loud. "you can't teach freedom" is the best statement i've heard on guitar playing.. probably ever..

  • @Thistlesifter220 im partialy agree with u man, but if u can check his web site he explain the reason of that, he just want to explain for now the minor and blues scales on the 1st position (on 5 fret), yep i know its some kind of frustration but its a nice way to start.

  • @kartman74usa - Yeah, I hear you... I really like his teaching and style.. it was my opinion on one point :-)

  • @Thistlesifter220 he is in fact teaching correctly. But you cant learn outside the box. But you can learn the rules inside the box properly so that you are better equipped to think outside the box.

You must know the rules before you can break them...

at least if you wanna break them with talent

  • @sosavidz Make no mistake, Justin is a great teacher of guitar, and guitar music theory. However, I disagree with your statement, "You must know the rules before you can break them...at least if you wanna break them with talent ". Going back to phrasing, some people just "feel" it with no formal teaching as to what the rules are, whatsoever. I will concede that it is good to, at some point, learn the rules, though.

    Rock on....

  • nabijem te seljačino

  • how are the chords called he plays

  • Dominant seven

  • thanks !!

  • inorite

  • dude fuckin awesome lesson i love metal guitar but i always had a passion for the blues im definately subscribin and checkin out the rest of your vids, well good lesson simply explained and well demonstrated. :)

  • thank you...been wanting to figure this out for years...man its so easy....you are truely a gifted teacher.

  • good video

  • he explains this so the "common musician" can understand.

  • Excellent lesson! I just wish you had shown closeups of the ending and turnaround chords; I can't figure out the forms you're using.

  • Yeah, me neither.

  • It's a A7 chord. E string, 5th fret. 2nd finger. A string 4th fret, 1st finger. D string 5th fret, 3rd finger. OR E string 5th fret, 2nd finger. A string muted by 2nd finger. D string 5th fret, 3rd finger. G sttring 6th fret, 4th finger.

  • nice job justin.perfect lesson

  • Mola tu guitarra...

    I like your guitar...

  • Te enrollas mucho, colega...

  • Man, great vid.

    You rock!!

    Thanks.

  • great lesson. thanks

  • Good insight on musical aspects of guitar playing. BTW, you called it five chord, many other musicians will likely call it dominant chord. Jazz music is theoretically in most cases a chain of dominants.

  • calling it a "V chord" is much more appropriate, it gives a reference to the tonic, and tells u its function. A dominant chord in general has many uses. If you play a progression with a "chain of dominants" like u said and u do not point out any tonal center's V chord, then some people might think its just another non functioning dominant chord that doesn't resolve to its root. I'm not trying to be mean, just educating u so when u go on stage with other musicians they don't knock u over. :D

  • Okay, that's fine. I think it's nice that ur educating us. Did you know that a minor IV chord and the VII chord (diatonically it's a minor flat 5 minor seventh chord) also leads to the tonic? Those aren't V-chords but are leading to the root anyway. BTW thats the reason why I am a bad teacher, I like to make things more complicate than they appear to be.

  • What did u just say... my brain hurts

  • Dans619.....U SUCK

  • You're awesome dude

  • Great lesson, Justin, I have a lot to learn; have you released the DVD? please let me know. Thanks.

  • Thanks Justin

  • What were you, was he thinking, when he got that tattoo on his for arm? What the heck is it anyway?

  • YouSpamTard, what does it matter nonuts! Justin is an excellent teacher, that all that matters! Tats are personal, so you probably wouldn't understand what it represents even if it were broken down to you. Reason being, you sound like a judgmental numnut! Enjoy!

  • Yes, he is the best guitar teacher I have ever seen. Nobody even comes close if you ask me. As far as the tattoo goes, I was just thinking about its location, because the the veins in that area of the arm are so close to the skin. I wonder the same thing when I see a person that has a tat on their neck right over their juggler. Thats all. I was meant to say. I am really curious what it is because he is my guitar hero teacher and I just thought I may get a closer glimpse into his personality.

  • I think it's a broken arrow.

  • People with tatts are the new yuppies

  • haha. tazzy devil! Good lesson

  • Thanks, great lesson.

  • The ending freaked me out, man.

  • Great teaching Justin ,i've been playing guitar about 30 years just an averageplayer ,but last couple of years really getting into the theory ..your lessonspenened up such a new dimension of playing ...bless you matey ..your the best !!

  • uhh...i think eric clapton's crossroads uses a variation of that
