  • Them two dislikes.... SERIOUSLY what is the point it's so annoying when people do that! Great song :)

  • 2 people are infinitely happy...

    Wait...

  • its a shame this song isn't on the cd

  • love playing this on my acoustic late at night with a few candles :)

  • Jimmy Chamberlain is amazing in this.

  • Can you get this at all in mp3?

  • Can you get this at all in mp3?

  • NEVER heard this before, thanks for posting!!

  • SCOTT PILGRIM AND THE INFINITE SADNESS!

  • I would kill to get the LP! Thank you for uploading this :)

  • Today...

  • I agree with Santino, this song is more spectacular than Mellon Coll & the Infinite Sadness. Someone posted that the chief instrument is a mellotron, which has a really brawny sound.

I think Bob Dylan used a mellotron on Knocking on Heaven's Door--the movie soundtrack version from Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. I wonder did it inspire "The Infinite Sadness"? It seems to me there are similarities, but it's no ripoff.

  • Personally I think this would've been a much more killer intro to the mellon collie album than the one thats on there, I mean it's alright but this is much more spectacular in my opinion.

  • This album and Madonna´s Ray of light are my top albums of the 90´s.

The Cranberries, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Garbage, Radiohead, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Everything was great back then

  • @pablorubiolugo My favorite 1990s albums are Smashing Pumpkins's, Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness, Smashing Pumpkins's, Siamese Dream, R.E.M. Automatic For The People, R.E.M. Document, Radiohead's, Okay Computer, and Red Hot Chili Peppers,'s Californication. Best albums of the 2000s Smashing Pumpkins's, Machina: The Machines Of God, Poets Of The Fall's, Signs Of Life, Cage The Elephant's, Cage The Elephant, and Smashing Pumpkins's, EP American Gothic

  • tnx m8

  • Dieses Lied erschien (nur)auf der 3-LP Sonderversion von Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness als letzter Track!!!Smashing Pumpkins are the best band (for)ever!!!!

  • I always imagine this as being the intermission for the two albums.

  • boomboomchap

  • This song is amazing

  • I LOVE IT!

  • can any1 give me a link to download this wonderful track? its a good song

  • This is so cool. This is my first time hearing it and it's like listening to a brand new song from the 90's. Thank you!

  • I like this. Never heard it before. Thanks Watch4 for the upload.

  • How would one locate Mashed Potatoes? I want it, but I feel like anyone who has it has it because they also really wanted it, and wouldn't sell it.

  • its on this rarities and b-sides look it up/

  • wheres the song mellon collie and the infinite sadness i cant find it!!!!its driving me nuts..

  • @Bringourdoomsday666 Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the first track on the Smashing Pumpkins third album, also called "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" it's up on Youtube and on iTunes.

  • @Watch4 i still cant find the right version.its not on youtube.

  • nevermind i mistaken this for thirty three.i found it already lol. my bad

  • @Watch4 This is not the first song in fact this is the last song and it only appears in the vinyl version, along with tonite reprise...

  • Not that rare, as you can buy it on itunes.

  • it suppose to be the last song on the album too. ='(

  • It's a mystery why this wasn't on mellon collie

  • @DRUMMERLORD95 Actually, it is. Not the CD version, but the vinyl edition. And I think this sounds more like a demo, indicating why it wouldn't really have been placed on the album. Also, space constraints might have held them back.

  • @VelvetPunk4life space constraints? lol the album is like 28 songs long or something ridiculous like that. i dont think 3 more minutes woulda broke the bank. but you probably are right, it does sound like a demo

  • @demonpeak Hmm...thinking about it again, you're right. Space mighta not been the reason. CD's can hold approx. 80 mins of music/sound on a disc. It might have felt out of place to Billy Corgan. Who knows? You'd have to ask the guy or anyone who worked on the album to really know.

  • Smashing pumpkins kick ass, thanks for posting their music.people that have good taste in music like me appreciate it

  • ...such a beautiful song, brings back so much memories of childhood : )

  • this is my third time posting this message, i guess they dont like swearing, but you got any demos from around methusela and i fall?

  • fuck yea, you got some songs from around methusela and i fall watch4?

  • fuck yea, thats what im talkin bout. you got some oldies pumpkins watch4, like the time around methusela and i fall?

  • WOW Thank you so much for sharing.

    Amazing!

  • im so stoked on this song!

  • I used to play this chord progression on my guitar a lot but never knew where it came from, now I do. Thank you for making me remember a heartfelt instrumental : )

  • I made a mistake with my comparison of Knockin on heaven's door with Infinite Sadness. The comparison should have veen with the "Final Theme" of Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid.

The two have some similarity, in the cadence and melody and drums, I think.

  • I really like this song. I was just listening to Bob Dylan's " Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid:" version of Knocking on Heaven's Door.

I had never noticed, but there are some similar sounds in the two songs. This is not a ripoff of Dylan at all, but has anyone else noticed the echoes from "Knockin" which crop up in "infinite Sadness".

It's not real noticeable, and likely only audible in the soundtrack album or Dylan's original album, not at all live performance,

  • hermosoo

  • I like the song order on the vinyl. You all should try it out.

  • i have never heard this song before. but i like it.

  • awesome!

  • thanks. 1 of my favorite on "b-sides and rarities".

  • I figured it out for the most part. Just a little iffy on the order. lol

  • Thank you hoacky!

  • which version is better vinyl or cd,the onl difference is the order

  • any know how to play this on guitar?.. =(

  • yes its really simple. Standard tuning. C (then let off your index finger) G Dsus and then just Em and G

  • Gives me goosebumps! I love it! :) It would have been nice to have this as the closing track on Mellon Collie I think!

  • It is on the vinyl version, I get were your going if you mean the CD.

  • Yeah it was the CD I meant, didn't know it was on the vinyl!

  • great song!

    ths!

  • thanks for going through all the trouble, well worth it. this is another masterpiece by the smashing pumpkins

  • i cannot seem to download this beuatiful song because i cant find it, any suggestions?

  • Comment removed

  • go to google and type "rspaa"

  • RSPAA no longer exists.

  • Lemme guess, Billy quietly made them go away because he's gonna try and charge everyone out the ass for what he calls "rare material".

  • i know and it sux that the holy grail of pumpkins recordings is no more

  • when was this released?!

  • 95.

  • Yep, this song utilizes the amazing Mellotron! This is the same thing you hear on Spaceboy... It's basically a piano that plays loops of tape, so you can play it like an orchestra, but it has a very unique sound. I love this song so much! Long live the Mighty SP!

  • i've never heard this one!!!

  • i love the instruumental play its just so unique and brethtaking.

  • This from the Mashed Potatoes box set disc 5. It is fucking amazing download it, I urgue you! They are the greatest band of all time, love you all xxx and keep the pumpkins alive!

  • Sounds a little like Spaceboy.

  • i fucking agree!!!

  • I love this song =) I´m generaction 90s , greetings!

  • i have this on vinyl :)

  • thanks for posting this, it is an amazing instumental. the drums really stand out in this and sound incredible!

  • This was only available on the vinyl copy of the album, but thank God for itunes.

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • Grazie. Ho tutto degli SP anni '90, ma questa non l'avevo ancora sentita.

    Thanksss

  • this'd be a good high song.

  • i dont know why that lady poping outa the star scares me o.0

  • Yes, so do I, but for the normal person, Mashed Potatoes IS hard to locate. Don't know why you'd put it in that way.

  • @Watch4 Where could I get a copy of Mashed Potatoes?

  • @cgnetwork1 You can't; it was personally given by Billy to the rest of the band and very few other people.

Supposedly, somebody stole D'Arcy's set back in the '90s, and a couple of the discs haven't been recovered yet.

  • @ANonExistentUser So where do all the songs on youtube come from that are supposedly from that set?

  • @cgnetwork1 This is the only song included on MP that I've seen on the site; I know that this and at least one other track are available on the "Rarities and B-Sides" collection on iTunes.

One of the guys who received the original set posted 18 of the songs online, and they've been circulating ever since, but the audio's supposed to be low-quality.

  • I have this on the vinyl copy of MCIS.

  • @lordomgzero

oh ya? every album? then you'd know it's also on the vinyl of MCIS. sweet lyphe brah so heady. nice of you to put it up on youtube too since you have it. dooooooooooooosh.

  • :D Yay! thanks 4 posting this song-it's awesome. Ah-sorry if i asked u this question before, but what's the font U used at the very beginning? It's the exact same thing as that on Melon Collie's cover.

  • It's a custom font called PS Bluegum Forest. It does not come with Microsoft Word, you must download it.

  • beautiful, why wasnt it on the cd? time restraints?

  • Because Infinite Sadness is actually an outtake for Siamese Dream. It is on the record though of Mellon Collie. It might be because of time restraints, I honestly wouldn't know!

  • Yea go on iTunes and try to find the "Rarties & B-Sides" album by them and it's on there. No Joke!!

  • is so beautiful is the smashing pumpkins i havn´t words

  • Cheers! I've been trying to find this for a long time; good find, and thanks for sharing!

  • You can hear the spots where words would go if there were any written. This song seems like it would have had an amazing solo if Billy wrote one.

  • ive been lookin for this song for like a week...finally got it lol

  • Amazing!!! Thanks dude!!! Jellybelly LOL. This is like super rare!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Next Jelly Belly? Also its pretty good, jsut of work, god im mad,...WHAT!
