It exploded for two reasons: You were shaking it around, and you used your thumb, not your palm. If you use the palm of your hand, you can hold it down better to prevent explosions (I recommend waiting 10 seconds before removing your hand, if you're worries about explosions)

Haha, I don't know how that's supposed to work, really. I don't know if there is a particular technique that is supposed to be used, or what. I've just had a couple very recently, and I personally, set it down on the counter and slam the opener into the marble with a flat palm. XD The first one actually was fine, opened pretty smoothly. Today, I did the same thing and it spewed all over like it did in this video. XD It's a really interesting idea, though. That alone makes it so awesome and fun.

No the marble doesn't help keep its "fizz" aka carbonation. Theres only two types of carbonation; carbon dixoide added into a pressurized drink (forced), or natural gasses building up during the fermentation process (Natural).

Ergo, the marble has absolutely nothing, to do with the "fizz".

It site in a rubber 'O' ring, and the pressure of the carbonated drink holds it in place. Pushing the marble down, allows the pressure to escape, and the marble is no longer held in place to act as a seal :)
