@Mickothebest actually its the worst because he will never see his family and be doomed to die a lonely death with no grave to rest in peace therefore its the sad ending because he cares more about his family that some creatures he met a few weeks ago. besides he'd probably visit more times with his family! also his oxygen filter was probably damaged, he replaced it in pikmin 2 so he could stay as long as he wants :)

It's not just that. The gases on the planet aren't exactly breathable, so Olimar (the corpse) survived on a life support system. However, the system only lasted for 30 days, and if you don't get the required amount of ship parts within 30 days, you die.

2. was it meant to be happy, as in the pikmin were saving olimar from death and letting him breathe whatever air the pikmin can,

or as an "ignorant murder", having the pikmin think he was an enemy that has fallen and that could be used for pellets.

my best explanation is that the onion knew that olimar was unconscience, but the pikmin thought he would wake up. sad :(
