That tendency, which Milton accuses our school systems of producing, can be found in any economic formation, in any society comprised of individuals who unite for any reason with regard to material satisfaction, with or without the existence of public education. What's more, public education in capitalistic societies have always been a means of producing better workers or better entrepreneurs of the future. Public education assumes the form of capitalistic modes of production.
i thought at first school should be public, because those who cant afford it should still be offeed an opportunity to get educated. then the more i thought about, the more i realized they dont use it anyways. here in canada, indian reserves barely have anyone in class. my social teacher said his (old) class of 20 would get 3 on a good day. why should taxpayers pay for the kids who dont go? if education is important to you, you WILL go to class, and will find a way to pay for it.
@RESTxINxPIECEZ What kind of education will the most impoverished find? What kind of education would those born into the most fortunate of circumstances find? You want what in reality is an educational oligarchy, an oligarchy which is the natural result of a Darwinian economic formation.
I love Milton Friedman. To anyone who understands the principal of non-aggression it should be obvious that freedom and individualism (not force or collectivism) are the methodologies of peace and prosperity.
I am not a strong personality so I don't think I'd do too well in Milton's world. Shining shoes probably. And worrying. Worrying everyday whether or not I would have bread, tomorrow, next year etc., etc.,. In other words, I'd be like half the world's population, that is, the half that don't read youtube. I'm glad we have government, and as individuals have more freedom of expression, they need an economic safety net more because they don't have to conform as much. The environment needs a net too
@mistersmith6000 I doubt you could even manage to shine someones shoes today, you've been so pampered by your parents and schools, that the thought of manual labour is so foreign to you It may as well be molecular biology.
Many of the safety nets existed before the government acknowledged them. Racism was institutionalized by the government, before people had workers rights recognized, the government murdered union members (Ludlow). The government is always behind the curve.
@Muslim91 Yes, indeed I might not be able to shine shoes. Afterall, it would be a competitive business and don't have the skills to elicit business, not yet anyway. I hate the thought. About schiool. I was bullied went to 3 high schools, dropped out at 17 and then later educated myself, through night school, university, post-grad etc. Yes, I learned how to suck on the blood of the state but I know others say it is silly to work hard just for its own sake. Milton would be one of those.
@mistersmith6000 And so I am scared of Milton's world, but not because I've been pampered. I've been screwed too, but I learnt a way to survived. I have no religion, so I can't pretend that some power is protecting me or punishing me, but saying that is just escaping from the argument. Let's say i am scared of Milton's period. (and I think the environment should be too)
@mistersmith6000 I used to think this as well but it really isn't the case. Friedman points out why in his videos. For example, eliminating the EPA puts the responsibility on the business to protect the environment. Why? Guess who gets sued if the neighbor gets sick.
@PlutoPowered I don't understand. A business is accountable to the shareholders and the quarterly returns. They don't have to protect the environment, they use it and move on to the next poor country - or state - with lax environmental laws. If they don't deliver a profit, the execs get payrolled out, and another bunch comes in. If the company folds and competitors take over, then they are doing the same, just better. Competing for resources. Fisherman will not keep the fish!
@Bremahhah If you listened to this and heard nothing the only thing that comes to mind is this video just goes over your head. Even people who dont agree can see what hes taking about...
@ssjwes If you already know who he is and what he is, than its obvious what hes at least trying to say. But nah, he doesn't actually say everything specifically in the video. Just vague innocuous statements.
The free market has NO incentive to provide education to the poor. Society at large however DOES benefit from having an educated populace. I agree that education should not be "imposed" but it should be available. And voucher systems only funnel public funds into private industries. Since the space race and before Reagan got involved trying to "reform" education, public schools were actually doing well and test score were improving. Reagan created a myth of the failing public schools.
@diilijethro "Under god" wasn't installed in the pledge until 1954, and most Americans think it was unconstitutional to do so. That is an example of a government with too much power. But providing funding to prevent our citizens to grow up ignorant is one of the best investments we can make as a country. Tools like Friedman are against it because they are too greedy to have their taxes raise by a dime.
@diilijethro What if the parents have, ya know, JOBS and don't have time to homeschool their children? Or aren't qualified experts in science of mathematics? Do we really want risk having a nation of kids raised to believe in creationism or some other foolishness??
@AgimA74 Because not everyone is qualified mentally for those positions. Not everyone is capable of grasping complex concepts introduced in the varying schools of science. Some people are only qualified for labor, not necessarily because of their lack of intellect, or propensity to learn, but because of drive, motivation, or even just sheer interest in the subject at hand.
The argument that if we tried to train everyone to be scientist's that we would have no plumbers is a fallacy.
Both sides can win. Give the money we are paying TODAY for public education in taxes and allow parent to apply that money towards the school of their choice. Seems fairly simple.
He is implying that there is a way of individual development but within a uniform set of values which is to be molded into the core of each institution. The assertion is right aparently, though it will be easy to distinguish the fact that the uniformization of institutions is not meant to govern the free men but to make them relate with some sort of freedom
Note how Friedman has to create a straw man argument to be able to defend his position: he falsely claims that the current system put all fault in society and not individual decisions. Based on this false extreme he makes his viewers believe that the best way is the other extreme: to put all responsibility in the individual (ignoring all the larger social power structure that is independent of people's efforts). His straw man argument eliminates even considering any solution in between.
@Saebeck32 ''What if a kid's family can't afford school?'' Friedman advocated school vouchers, the fact that the government will not own & run schools does not mean it can't help fund education for those unable to help themselves.
@Malthus0 Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the free market dealt almost completely without government intervention, if the government helped fun schools wouldn't that be unfair?
@kishimotoguy Ideally it would not be the case, however vouchers are a good practical option for a transition from government monopoly to a market in education, given the statist politcs of most modern nations.
@Saebeck32 so let the kid to go to work a minimum wage first, save and then go to school. What do you have against work Saebeck32? are you too proud to work you lazy bustard?
@Saebeck32 why not? but him stealing money of people who do work, you are not against? you are sucha compassionate person. Gov doesn't have any money. I have money. What right does your kid have to take my money?
@Armando7654 I agree. You can keep all the money you would have paid in taxes, but don't drive on a road, don't fly on a plane, do not eat food that has been inspected by the FDA, do not flush a toilet and most certainly do not salute our troops. You wanna be completely on your own? Be my guest.
@Saebeck32 roads had been built and thus can be build by the free market, we don't need fda, the gov doesn't owe the air, and if you wouldn't believe in government war propaganda no one would need an army. grow up little girl and learn to wipe your ass yourself
@Armando7654 So you alone will be your own military? You alone will build your own roads? You alone will inspect your food and medicine? You have the expertise to do so?? You alone will monitor carcinogens in the air and water?? Can you just admit that the free market (profit motive) cannot solve every problem? We need a government for some basic tasks, thats what makes us a country and not just a collection of tribes. Afghanistan sounds more like the place you want to live.
@Saebeck32 Your question shows how we as a society have been programmed to only accept a certain form of education. There are many forms of education that any parent can teach. Oliver DeMille's Thomas Jefferson Education is probably the best, not only for home schooling, but it can also be implemented in public or private schools. He beautifully distinguishes between the conveyor belt education of our public schools and a true leadership education on which the our country was founded.
@ransom22 Excuse me, but public school teachers have obtained certification to teach the specified subjects that Joe six-pack has not obtained. Don't we want our children taught by experts? What if the parent doing the homeschooling cannot grasp Oliver DeMille's model of education? Let alone spell it. Certain things are worth investing in to better our nation.
@Saebeck32 Both my wife and I have been through that cert. process. None of it makes any difference to really teach our children what they need to know. If you had read DeMille's books on Thomas Jefferson Education you would understand more fully. I'm all for investing in education, but the public school system is a proven failure, so there's no point in me investing further in something that is and will continue to fail our children.
@ransom22 Perhaps we haven't invested enough. You know who has though? South Korea, Japan and China. All of whom are kicking our asses in Math and Science.
@Saebeck32 And it's interesting that that all started about the time the department of education was created. Weird huh? Anywhere the federal government interferes with the private sector, quality goes down and costs go up. That's what we're seeing with education.
@ransom22 Not true. Government hasn't, until recently, interfered in health care and we have 50 million uninsured. Even before medicare and social security millions lived in poverty. What private insurance company wants to insure a 75 year old sick person?
@Saebeck32 Government started interfering in health care with Medicare and that's where things started down hill. Since then costs have gone up drastically. Medicare and Medicaid are the 2 biggest contributors for rising costs for doctors and hospitals. 60 years ago, an expensive policy might cost you $50 a year. We need to get back to buying health insurance like every other form of insurance; for catastrophic purposes only. The rest should be paid out of pocket which will bring costs down
@ransom22 60 years ago $50 was quite expensive. And like i said, things weren't so great before medicare and even before social security. Poverty among the elderly was staggering.
@Saebeck32 $50 a year was not expensive 60 years ago. Also, perhaps you should be more specific than just the word "staggering." The bigger issue is that government intervention in health care has made things worse, not better, just like it has done with education and the social security program. These are all unconstitutional programs that hurt individuals and America as a whole.
@Saebeck32 This has nothing to do with Fox News since I don't watch that or any other news network. This has to do with the Constitution. There is no Constitutional authority for a federal department of education, government paid health care, or social security. The first two are covered in the 10th Amendment, and the third by Article 1, Section 8.
@ransom22 I seem to recall the preamble stating something like "provide for the general welfare." The constitution is a flawed document, that counted black people as 3/5 of a person. We need some modern solutions to our current problems.
@Saebeck32 It does say that, and that's another part of the Constitution that has been twisted and misused, especially in the past 50 years. Providing for the general welfare refers to things that benefit everyone, not just the majority of people. Also, providing for the general welfare does not specify anything in particular. That is why the 10th Amendment applies for things like education, health care, and retirement, none of which are rights.
@Saebeck32 They necessitate taking from some to give to others. That doesn't benefit everyone. Also, there's again the 10th Amendment that gives these specific authorities to the states to provide or not as they choose. Public education, social security and medicare have all proven to be massive failures. So how have they benefited everyone? All the federal government has done is created monopolies in those areas which we both know is a terrible idea.
@ransom22 Ho have they proven to be massive failures? Senior citizens now have a sense of security in their old age that they simply didn't before. What private insurance company want to insure a 75 year old sick person?!
@Saebeck32 Out public education system as a whole is terrible with rising costs for worse and worse quality of the education. Social Security is broke, which was predicted by the free market economists the whole time, but of course Washington thought Keynes had a better model. It also taught so many people not to be responsible financially because the gov't would take care of them. Nothing has increased the cost of health care in our country than medicare and medicaid.
@ransom22 SO about those people who were responsible with their money in 2008 and invested in private retirement accounts and were WIPED OUT due to the Bush collapse. There's the "Free market" at work for you. What would have happened if Bush had succeeded in privatizing social security? People would have NOTHING to fall back on. Thank goodness they at least have social security to provide some basic stability in old age.
@Saebeck32 That's just it. They weren't responsible with their money and neither were the businesses and banks that should have gone bankrupt. That was far from the free market at work. It was corporatism at work following a failed Keynesian economic policy that has never worked. Corporations in bed with Washington writing their own regulations and tax codes is not free market or capitalism. It's croanie-capitalism brought about by a government that much larger than it should be.
@ransom22 "Writing their own regulations and tax codes" = Abolishing them. These businesses want ZERO regulation or taxation of any kind, which is laissez-faire free market capitalism at work. That is what the free market is, trying to screw the other guy before he screws you. Life is too short and precious to make seniors have to go it alone in their golden years.
@Saebeck32 You do realize of course the 3/5ths rule was enacted so black slaves in the south could not be counted to boost representation in congress????The constitution is not flawed. Only when people like you skew it do benefit yourself... "The general welfare" Not the specific welfare....It's really easy to understand when you take into consideration it was written to include everyone, not classes of people....
@bigbag70 How can you say the constitution is not flawed when it denied women and blacks the right to vote, did nothing about slavery and counted blacks as 3/5 of person?!?! There are some serious flaws in the constitution my friend.
@Saebeck32 Your confusing,,, Woman voted as far back as the late 1700's as well as blacks.... And how can it be flawed if it was used in order to free slaves and end women's suffrage????Woman did not vote because only property owners were allowed to vote, you really should read at least once...The arguments your using are left propaganda. There's an app for that.
@bigbag70 It was originally flawed!! It took 70 years after the constitution was ratified to free the slaves and 120 years to get women's suffrage!!! Don't you think only allowing property owners the right to vote is a flaw?!
@Saebeck32, the 3/5 clause was to stop slave owners from counting their slaves as a vote, thereby keeping slavery in power. The founders had to keep a shaky union together while instilling in the Constitution the means to bring an end to slavery.
@itssoEC but not the means to provide education and healthcare to our citizens huh? There are certain things the founders could not have foreseen in 1791!!! There is not such thing as a "perfect" document, and the constitution certain is not perfect. We need to be able to adapt to changing times. We need some modern solutions to our modern problems.
@itssoEC That's your opinion. I disagree, and I will continue to support public education, medicare, social security and continue fighting for universal healthcare.
@Saebeck32, that is, of course, your prerogative. I know that competition can make the providers strive for better quality at a lower price. A single supplier doesn't have the same pressure to perform.
@Saebeck32 I thought that way too. I'm Canadian, and we have all those public services, but when I look at education, it's awful! The students are not learning as much as they should, and the government just wants to produce graduates that the standards have gone down just to make sure we can give students a diploma. If it were private, there wouldn't be as many slackers in school who know they'll get that piece of paper without even working for it.
@Saebeck32 in addition, I have seen the medical system in action. It includes waiting to see a doctor for an appointment 2-3 hours AFTER your appointment. It also requires that you stay in line when you visit the Emergency department for HOURS before you can get seen. I've had to wait in the emergency department from 5 PM to 10 PM before my grandma who is diabetic got seen by the doctor. Yeah, it's free, but you may die before you see a doctor.
@Saebeck32 oh, and I take it back, it's not free in Canada, we pay high taxes and very little return for our dollars. I used to believe the government should take care of us, but then when I see how much I paid in taxes last year, and the services I got for it, I can only conclude that I have been jipped. After recently hearing about Ron Paul, I am sold that the public system doesn't work. I'd love for him to get voted and see how he changes things in America. Then Canada may follow suit.
@Saebeck32 How old are you? 25? You do not know about these taxes because you you do not pay a dime, heck you cannot even stand on your own 2 feet. You can barely feed yourself, you require OBAMA to give you handouts/welfare. You can barely pay for your own cell phone bill & live at home with your parents. How about you pay for your fair share of the rent/mortgage? Pay for your own car, gas, water, property tax, instead of running up parents Credit Cards trying to impress your gf/bf.
@Saebeck32 Than your parents can hire a good college tutor. Rather than waste thousands every year in taxes sent up to SACRAMENTO for you to be in class full of ILLEGALS & a incompetent teacher SPANISH teacher teaching you MATH & SPANGLISH. They bankrupt your parents into foreclosure, dumb down your education, & raised your tuition. FOX did not do that, its OBAMA democratic cronies up in SACRAMENTO that has given you no future.
@Saebeck32 Have you ever taught a class and/or TA for one at a UC school? Did you know how many kids from CA are in my engineering class when I TA at UCLA back in 2008? Less than 5%. Most of these ASIAN kids are from OVERSEAS. You democratic clowns have bankrupt a lot of LEGAL ASIAN FAMILIES here in CA. Families that have 3 or 4 kids in college. They pay billions in taxes & tuition to SAC & UC REGENTS, now they are screwed by the OBAMA raising tuition on them.
@Saebeck32 What factual intolerance did I say? That you are only 25? That you still live at home? No JOB? because of the UNIONs? Did you go to college? Did you graduate? Still in debt with student loans? Maxing out your parents credit cards by buying your b/f or g/f gifts with which you do not make a dime? Cannot even stand on your own 2 feet? Need OBAMA for welfare or handouts to make it in life because you are too lazy to make your own money?
@Saebeck32 Typical OBAMA UNION idiots like you is the reason why I see no Latinos, Blacks, or barely any Californians in my Engineering class. As an undergrad. TA at UCLA when your stupid Union tried to recruit me, under some stupid local grocery/auto labor tag. I was glad I did not signed the dotted line and join the TA Union. Guess what? 1 week before finals, they told the TAs to strike, and anybody caught Teaching was going to be severely reprimanded.
@Saebeck32 Thousands of students were left stranded during finals week. One physics class I did not TA for had an average around 20% because all the TAs were on strike. As an undergrad you are only allowed to teach 1 class, but during this strike I was asked by my professor to TA for 4 more classes without pay. Grading 300 exams by myself. I did this because, I AM A TA AT UCLA! It was an HONOR, and a privilege. As an engineering professional in the private sector I feel the same way!
@UCSDEngineerDoctor You implied Obama raised tuition, false. I wasn't aware a president had that authority. You suggested Obama is associated with the black panthers, false. You said Obama and Barney Frank are responsible for homelessness, when the mortgage crisis was allowed to grow under Bush due to his deregulation that led to this Bush recession we are still stuck in. You should consider moving to china if you like working long hours for no pay. No unions there to provide you with dignity.
@Saebeck32 Barney FRANK & OBAMA was all about regulations. They forced banks to loan out money to scrupulous borrowers & asked the TAX PAYER to foot the default. UNIONs provide you with dignity? WHY cant you provide yourself with dignity? Why do you need to tax people for your dignity? EARN YOUR OWN DUES. How about you move to GREECE?
@Saebeck32 Better yet, why dont you move out of your parents house or pay for your fair share? Heck you cannot even pay for your portion of your cell phone bill. If you have any dignity move out get a job & stop being on tax payer welfare or subsidizes or better yet stop maxing out your parents credit cards.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor Obama bankrupted their parents?!? The doe was at 6,000 when Obama was sworn in. It is now at 12,000. Obama lowered tax rates for EVERYONE. And we've had 21 straight months of private sector job growth. You seriously need to lay off the Fixed News. Where do you think you go weekends from? Vacations? Workplace safety? End of child labor?! UNIONS!!!
@Saebeck32 12,000? Its all paper money just like the housing crisis. You think the STOCK MARKET being at 12,000 because we produce, make, things without the government subsidizing it? Its like you gave your g/f a diamond ring that you paid with your parents CREDIT CARD. OBAMA printed money & threw it at the UNIONs, TRILLIONS spend & unemployment went from 4% to 9%. If you do not like where you work, quit, get an education & get a real job.
Sounds like a JStewart moonbat. 21 months of job growth from 10+% unemployment. And where it's at now, that's horrible. Look how much money was spent for "Stimulus" and much more government spending to "help the public" and compare it with how slow the economy has moved and how weak and fragile we still are. Our debt is out of control, and Obama didn't help that at all. Bush is no good either. Did you get your money's worth from stimulus, and the 350 billion borrowed from TARP
@OffTheGlass87 For you to act like the debt we've had since world war 2 was the most important issue shows me that you are not a serious person. We had a major crisis on our hands and paying off the debt was not the top priority. Preventing the second great depression was. If you're so concerned about the debt, why not return to Clinton's tax rate when he left us with a budget surplus? Oh because the debt is so important that we should have a 3% tax increase on the rich, i see. Get real!!
@Saebeck32 Get Real? The Clinton Tax rates won't touch this debt. What we need is to whittle our budget down to about 1/3 of what it is now. If you really think this is a revenue or tax rate problem than you are simply out of touch. It is clearly a spending problem.
@acdclandon1 Returning to the slightly higher federal tax rates of the 1990's or even the 1980's under Reagan (That communist lol) we can eliminate the debt by 2036.
@Saebeck32 I'm guessing that's if no new debt is added. Or if no new spending or programs are created. Which is not really a possibility for most government addicts in our country. I agree that we need more revenue in the face of this problem, but if we go back to those tax rates the extra revenue should go DIRECTLY towards paying off the debt. Even still massive cuts need to happen on top of that.
@Saebeck32 True Republicans in Congress are obviously out for their own interests. But I don't trust sleazy liberals to actually make a fiscally sound decision either. Why should we raise back those tax rates if there is no guarantee where that money is going? We got into this because of recklessly printing and spending money. So the solution is not to get more money, in fact in ways that is continuing the problem.
@acdclandon1 The only president to leave us with a budget surplus was the liberal democrat Bill Clinton. The majority of our current national debt was run up by Reagan and George w Bush. Spending cuts need to be made down the road, but not in the middle of this recession cause by Bush's deregulation policies.
@Saebeck32 that is not true and coherent with what really happened. Reagan was the ONLY president at the time that was willing to go after the federal reserve and fight inflation.
@Saebeck32 by raising taxes you will increase the national debt while making government bloated and out of control. The symptoms are already starting to show with what happens when you have TOO much government. go on google right now and click on the logo. Notice how it has a giant black box around it. MY POINT PROVEN! doing good by force =/= good.
@Saebeck32 The only way we can heavily reduce debt. IS by cutting the shit out of government. Think of it as cleaning up a heavily horded room with junk that you do not need. That junk being governmental programs. All they do is take up space in that room while you trip and stumble over cords and wires. With a clean room (government) It can serve more of it's function by having space for in which the people can operate while upholding basic laws.
@Saebeck32 Haha that's not even a small fraction of the pie. The largest contributors to debt are welfare programs. Milton Imposed the idea behind giving the government a limited budget to go by. IF you even knew you history then you'd know that by increasing taxes. You REDUCE business and create poverty. Increasing taxes has no such thing in creating the utopia you imagine. Government doesn't drive the economy businesses do.
@acdclandon1 Revenue can only be generated by output. And really not only do you need to worry about how much you are spending. But also how much you are producing.
@Saebeck32 Why dont your google OBAMA & BLACK PANTHERS & see the pictures for yourself. OBAMA is a UNION ass kisser, along with all the stupid DEMOCRATIC clowns in CALIFORNIA which has bankrupt this state.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor And Black Pathers?? Seriously? The video of the 2 guys at a single voting place just standing there that Fox News ran over and over to frighten their white audience? Get real. Watch this please: /watch?v=_OEuK0kWbzQ
@Saebeck32 nternet provocateur Andrew Breitbart has photographic evidence of then-Senator Barack Obama sharing a stage in 2007 with Malik Shabazz, National Chairman of the New Black Panther Party, a revival of the militant black supremacist organization founded in 1966 by a couple of thugs named Huey Newton and Bobby Seale.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor HA! Andrew Breitbart!?!?! The racist asshole who deceptively edited the tapes of the ACORN employees supposedly believing that a scrawny white kid was a real pimp? Try watching the whole tape where the ACORN employees CALL THE COPS ON HIM!! Breitbart also deceptively edited a tape of Shirely Sherrod and her life was ruined because of him and Fox News. He is the LEAST credible source out there. But once again, facts don't matter to Fox News Tea Partiers like you huh?
@UCSDEngineerDoctor You have the Black Panther Party For Self Defense mistaken for these neo black panther imbeciles. I agree that the neo group is nothing more than a black KKK, but if you go and research the true intent of the black panther party, or if you read the book Revolutionary Suicide, you will find that the party was for equal treatment of ALL people not just blacks.
@Saebeck32 UC Regents & the Union went into arbitration on salary negotiations because they wanted to decrease my salary to make it fair because the POLI SCI & basket weaving TAs were paid minimum wage. As an engineering TA I was paid double. The Unions eventually lost, because TAs are not teachers.
@Saebeck32 Because of this Union fiasco, thousands of Lations & Black students flunked Physics. And to make matters worst the TA Union disintegrated & the University black listed them & hired new undegrad TAs, leaving most of my friends without a job. All because the UNIONs wanted a piece of the TA's salary for their dues.
@Saebeck32 The only people being factual intolerant are OBAMA's democratic clowns up in SACRAMENTO which as bankrupt this state into GREECE. RAISING their tuition & pepper spraying them. Since OBAMA been in office, UC tuition has risen close to 100%. CALIFORNIA unlike the federal government cannot print its own money. These college kids are screwed, & I feel sorry for the younger generation that voted for OBAMA. OBAMA has bankrupted their parents & raised their tuition.
@Saebeck32 How old are you? 25?You do not know about these taxes because you you do not pay a dime, heck you cannot even stand on your own 2 feet.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor What if you had kids, and could afford them, and suddenly your 401k is wiped out by some credit default swap BS on Wall Street? What then? Isn't it better to know at least your child will still have a decent education?
@UCSDEngineerDoctor I'm talking about not having a cent of my tax money go to purchasing weapons for our military, and not a cent of my tax money going to train our soldiers or provide them with supplies. You're ok with that?
@Saebeck32 You are right, the government should work like the rest of us. They can have as many supplies & soldiers they want, provided they earn every cent of it in the private sector & not take it from its citizens, because that is slavery. Taking money from the private sector to pay for a war a government cannot afford is economic suicide.
@Saebeck32 Same thing with the UNIONs, they can have all the dues, all the pensions, all the health benefits they want. Earn it all in the private sector, do not expect me to pay for it.
@Saebeck32 You are right, good argument. You should not send your hard earn money to fund the war that I am against too. Same with your stupid UNION. I do not want to pay for your UNION pensions or salary. DO you want to pay for WALMARTS salary & pensions of its WORKERS?
@UCSDEngineerDoctor At least you're consistent. Wal-Mart offers no public service. Will Wal-Mart come to rescue me if my house catches fire? Your argument makes no sense.
Of course not, thats what INSURANCE is for. If the government did not tax you into bankruptcy you can afford a very good insurance to cover your house. WalMart provide jobs & does not tax me, & it provide value to its stockholders & tax revenue for your OBAMA UNION jobs to waste. Unlike SOLYNDRA.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor Taxes are at their lowest level in 50 years. I know that facts don't get through to you folks living in Fox News fantasy land, but you should consider them every now and then. So wouldn't privatized firefighters funded by insurance companies only protect the rich neighborhoods? What incentive do they have to protect poor neighborhoods when they're not turning a profit?
@Saebeck32 Federal taxes stay the same you might be right about that, but not in CALIFRONIA. You think the democratic IDIOTS take only 10% of your salary in CA? What about permits, fees, fines, licenses, property tax, sewage tax, gas & electric tax, business & capital gains tax, tuition, registration which has risen 100% in the last 4 years? Also what about INFLATION TAX, gas has risen almost $2 when OBAMA took office for all the money OBAMA has been printing?
@Saebeck32 How old are you? 25? You do not know about these taxes because you you do not pay a dime, heck you cannot even stand on your own 2 feet. You can barely feed yourself, you require OBAMA to give you handouts/welfare. You can barely pay for your own cell phone bill & live at home with your parents. How about you pay for your fair share of the rent/mortgage? Pay for your own car, gas, water, property tax, instead of running up parents Credit Cards trying to impress your gf/bf.
@Saebeck32 You are a moron, you do not pay a dime in taxes, because once you start paying for your own, you realize the more you make, the more OBAMA takes. You realize how much OBAMA & the democratic cronies up in SACRAMENTO has screwed you over.
@Saebeck32@Saebeck32 Guess where all the poorest neighborhoods are? GOVERNMENT FUNDED HOUSING especially in CHICAGO which OBAMA & his BLACK PANTHERS touted are worst than a 3rd world country. These politicians like OBAMA funnel & skim off the top of these government subsidizes, wasting billions of taxpayer $ in growing their political bureaucracy than give the crumbs to the poor. Just like SOLYNDRA, where they cannot even pay the JANITOR. OBAMA creates no incentive.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor A lot to explain here my misguided friend. Yes, federal taxes are at the lowest rate in 50 years. Obama has not control over state taxes. Your republican governor, Arnold, seemed to cause quite a mess in your state. Sorry to hear that. Your "the more you make, the more Obama takes" is simply false, as his tax rate is lower than Reagan's, that socialist lol.
@Saebeck32 You are a moron, ARNOLD tried to pass UNION reform through proposition 73, 74, 75, & 76 back in 2006. How old were you than? 18/19? Did you vote yes on those propositions? Those propositions got rid of UNION dues, tenure, & cut spending on ILLEGAL education. They were all defeated, because the state UNION workers using their million $ of taxpayer dues bought negative political ads. OBAMA democratic cronies up in SACRAMENTO has bankrupt CA like it bankrupt GREECE.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor And why do suppose public housing is where poor people live? Maybe because they couldn't afford any alternative. THATS WHY WE HAVE PUBLIC HOUSING!! Were you expecting a lot of millionaires to be living there lol? And what is your alternative to public housing? Just let people be homeless?? How christian of you.
@Saebeck32 Public housing was poor because instead of giving those people jobs, you basically threw money at the problem. You have public housing because CHICAGO with its UNION gangs have stifled competition so that no company can afford to set up business, hence people have to look to OBAMA for handouts, making them dependent, while the UNION Bosses & OBAMA lived in the lap of luxury. The only people that made people HOMELESS is OBAMA & Barney Frank.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor ....and you do realize that Solyndra accounted for 1.2% of the energy loan program started under Bush right? I hope you are equally outraged about the $9 BILLION that up an vanished in Iraq. 1/18 the cost of Solyndra.
@Saebeck32 Did you know that half a billion $ wasted by OBAMA - can put food on the table, clothes, pay for tuition, for about 50,000 families? Yes the war in IRAQ is as about as stupid as OBAMA continuing the war 4 years after he got elected.
Friedmans economic policies are used by countries that want economic growth. China's turn towards capitalism is finally showing promise to the people of China even though the Chinese govt is "STILL" a brutal regime. They were brutal before the capitalist policies and they will be brutal during, it will only be when the people finally fight back for freedom.People fight back when they have something to fight for, free market capitalism what supplies the motive(property)to fight back.Chile is Free!
@quinnrasta Here's some more facts you may have left out- following the Pinochet/Friedman Coup inflation rose 375% in 1974, unemployment reached 40%, 55% of Chileans lived below the poverty line.......now private industry in Chile prospered partly because they bought public utilities at a fraction of what they were actually worth....so immense public wealth was transferred to the richest corporatist....Same with Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay...it wasn't until the late 90's that those economies
@quinnrasta rejected the Free Market ideology and have managed to regain their strenghth...another fact your leaving out...Friedman policies or what you call "Free" were only implemented through the systematic overthrow of a democratically elected government through the use of F-14 U.S fighter planes....those policies are so unpopular with the masses that they will never be chosen through democracy...fact. I'm through arguing with a mindless ideologue
@sandinista138 The Global Competitiveness Report for 2009-2010 ranks Free market Chile as being the 30th most competitive country in the world and the first in Latin America, well above from Brazil (56th) and Argentina which ranks 85th. Real economic output declined by 19% just in 1982 and 1983 and most of the recovery and subsequent growth took place after Pinochet left office.when market-oriented economic policies were additionally strengthened. Friedman was never about central gov.Nice try DA
@quinnrasta Right and all it took was a dirty war against Democracy, the torturing and murdering of the innocent and again...the repression of Democracy...but what's a couple hundred thousands deaths when Markets are cashing in right??....you and your daddy Milton Friedman can go fuck yourself, your policies are dying throughout Latin America..Democracy will always win out in the end..
@sandinista138 Your assumption is that Friedman was for a military dictatorship or that he caused the coup. His policies are thriving in CHILE dumb ass, as well as China and the people are freer in w/ a capitalist economic policy. brazil argentina and venezuela have gone by the way of the socialist the POS liberal and the people are poor&cant own property, and are dying. pinochet would have killed with or w/out friedman's economics. Chile is the finally used "my" policies and are thriving DA!
@quinnrasta It's obvious that the only thing you know about Latin America is what Wall Street tells you,...you've never been there, the people from there will never want to talk to an ignorant American like you...go ahead and walk through the Villa Francia community spouting your Free Market ignorance and see what happens you fucken joke...
@sandinista138 Wow you are still talking? It is obvious you were unable to refute or answer my questions regarding latin america. My grandmother is from Mexico, and I have family in Panama and Chile. Chile’s economic freedom score is 77.4, making its economy the 11th freest in the 2011 Index.Private property is well protected. Contracts are secure, and courts are transparent and efficient. You will not see this in venezuela, argentina or brazil, Chile is a FREE TRADE COUNTRY. Just stop dumb ass
@TheWardogleader00345 No, when Chile finally took his advice (which was not socialism nor communism) the country started to prosper. The relationship with the tyrant pinochet was a short lived relationship. However between 1950 & 1970,the Chilean economy expanded at meager rates. GDP grew at an average rate of 3.8 percent per annum, whereas real GDP per capita increased at an average yearly rate of 1.6 percent.Chiles performance was the worst in Latin America during this period. pinochet was a POS
@sandinista138 Which Latin American countries are using "my" policies? Lets see its not brazil, argentina or venezuela which are all POS countries hell bent on the views of the liberal socialists, as they did in cuba. che was a great guy killing all his people along side castro. Not my policies, I am for people owning property and be able to keep what they make. ussr starved 50 million people while their leaders ate up on a hill. What writing of Friedman was ever for dictatorships? Bye dumb ass!
@quinnrasta hey Milton Dick Rider...it's impossible to rewrite history...the Chicago boys guided all Latin American military dictatorships in the Southern Cone...try googling operation condor....your such a joke and completely void of reality...it's no wonder you support this idiots economic views...views that are dying day by day...
Friedman policie's could only be implemented through Military shock throughout Latin America and the world....the result were brutal dictatorships that repressed Democracy and the people's will...never forget!!! Viva Allende!!!

Milton Friedman is one of the greatest thinkers of our time....
jasonarmstrong1982 1 week ago
i thought at first school should be public, because those who cant afford it should still be offeed an opportunity to get educated. then the more i thought about, the more i realized they dont use it anyways. here in canada, indian reserves barely have anyone in class. my social teacher said his (old) class of 20 would get 3 on a good day. why should taxpayers pay for the kids who dont go? if education is important to you, you WILL go to class, and will find a way to pay for it.
RESTxINxPIECEZ 3 weeks ago

@mistersmith6000 Hahahahaha your adorable! You clearly do not understand Milton's world
YaHuWaHservant 1 month ago
@mistersmith6000 I doubt you could even manage to shine someones shoes today, you've been so pampered by your parents and schools, that the thought of manual labour is so foreign to you It may as well be molecular biology.
Many of the safety nets existed before the government acknowledged them. Racism was institutionalized by the government, before people had workers rights recognized, the government murdered union members (Ludlow). The government is always behind the curve.
Muslim91 1 month ago
@Muslim91 Yes, indeed I might not be able to shine shoes. Afterall, it would be a competitive business and don't have the skills to elicit business, not yet anyway. I hate the thought. About schiool. I was bullied went to 3 high schools, dropped out at 17 and then later educated myself, through night school, university, post-grad etc. Yes, I learned how to suck on the blood of the state but I know others say it is silly to work hard just for its own sake. Milton would be one of those.
mistersmith6000 1 month ago
@mistersmith6000 And so I am scared of Milton's world, but not because I've been pampered. I've been screwed too, but I learnt a way to survived. I have no religion, so I can't pretend that some power is protecting me or punishing me, but saying that is just escaping from the argument. Let's say i am scared of Milton's period. (and I think the environment should be too)
mistersmith6000 1 month ago
@mistersmith6000 I used to think this as well but it really isn't the case. Friedman points out why in his videos. For example, eliminating the EPA puts the responsibility on the business to protect the environment. Why? Guess who gets sued if the neighbor gets sick.
PlutoPowered 4 weeks ago
@PlutoPowered I don't understand. A business is accountable to the shareholders and the quarterly returns. They don't have to protect the environment, they use it and move on to the next poor country - or state - with lax environmental laws. If they don't deliver a profit, the execs get payrolled out, and another bunch comes in. If the company folds and competitors take over, then they are doing the same, just better. Competing for resources. Fisherman will not keep the fish!

KeroroGunsouTX 2 months ago
@diilijethro "Under god" wasn't installed in the pledge until 1954, and most Americans think it was unconstitutional to do so. That is an example of a government with too much power. But providing funding to prevent our citizens to grow up ignorant is one of the best investments we can make as a country. Tools like Friedman are against it because they are too greedy to have their taxes raise by a dime.
Saebeck32 4 months ago
@diilijethro Well we have separation of church and state in the US and religion cannot be taught in public schools.
Saebeck32 4 months ago
@diilijethro What if the parents have, ya know, JOBS and don't have time to homeschool their children? Or aren't qualified experts in science of mathematics? Do we really want risk having a nation of kids raised to believe in creationism or some other foolishness??
Saebeck32 4 months ago 2
@Saebeck32 Why has to be everyone a scientist or a mathematician? We need qualified plumbers, bakers, cooks as well!
AgimA74 3 months ago 5
@AgimA74 Don't you think a more highly educated overall population makes us stronger as a country?
Saebeck32 3 months ago 2
@AgimA74 Because not everyone is qualified mentally for those positions. Not everyone is capable of grasping complex concepts introduced in the varying schools of science. Some people are only qualified for labor, not necessarily because of their lack of intellect, or propensity to learn, but because of drive, motivation, or even just sheer interest in the subject at hand.
The argument that if we tried to train everyone to be scientist's that we would have no plumbers is a fallacy.

He is implying that there is a way of individual development but within a uniform set of values which is to be molded into the core of each institution. The assertion is right aparently, though it will be easy to distinguish the fact that the uniformization of institutions is not meant to govern the free men but to make them relate with some sort of freedom
x3m4ik 6 months ago
Note how Friedman has to create a straw man argument to be able to defend his position: he falsely claims that the current system put all fault in society and not individual decisions. Based on this false extreme he makes his viewers believe that the best way is the other extreme: to put all responsibility in the individual (ignoring all the larger social power structure that is independent of people's efforts). His straw man argument eliminates even considering any solution in between.

What if a kid's family can't afford school?
Saebeck32 6 months ago 5
@Saebeck32 ''What if a kid's family can't afford school?'' Friedman advocated school vouchers, the fact that the government will not own & run schools does not mean it can't help fund education for those unable to help themselves.
Malthus0 6 months ago 18
@Malthus0 If it is funded with taxpayer money, it cannot be a school that teaches religious fairy tales.

@ransom22 What if the parent isn't qualified to teach mathematics, science or history? We can not have a nation of uneducated Fox News zombies.
Saebeck32 3 months ago 2
@Saebeck32 Your question shows how we as a society have been programmed to only accept a certain form of education. There are many forms of education that any parent can teach. Oliver DeMille's Thomas Jefferson Education is probably the best, not only for home schooling, but it can also be implemented in public or private schools. He beautifully distinguishes between the conveyor belt education of our public schools and a true leadership education on which the our country was founded.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 Excuse me, but public school teachers have obtained certification to teach the specified subjects that Joe six-pack has not obtained. Don't we want our children taught by experts? What if the parent doing the homeschooling cannot grasp Oliver DeMille's model of education? Let alone spell it. Certain things are worth investing in to better our nation.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 Both my wife and I have been through that cert. process. None of it makes any difference to really teach our children what they need to know. If you had read DeMille's books on Thomas Jefferson Education you would understand more fully. I'm all for investing in education, but the public school system is a proven failure, so there's no point in me investing further in something that is and will continue to fail our children.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 Perhaps we haven't invested enough. You know who has though? South Korea, Japan and China. All of whom are kicking our asses in Math and Science.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 And it's interesting that that all started about the time the department of education was created. Weird huh? Anywhere the federal government interferes with the private sector, quality goes down and costs go up. That's what we're seeing with education.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 Not true. Government hasn't, until recently, interfered in health care and we have 50 million uninsured. Even before medicare and social security millions lived in poverty. What private insurance company wants to insure a 75 year old sick person?
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 Government started interfering in health care with Medicare and that's where things started down hill. Since then costs have gone up drastically. Medicare and Medicaid are the 2 biggest contributors for rising costs for doctors and hospitals. 60 years ago, an expensive policy might cost you $50 a year. We need to get back to buying health insurance like every other form of insurance; for catastrophic purposes only. The rest should be paid out of pocket which will bring costs down
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 60 years ago $50 was quite expensive. And like i said, things weren't so great before medicare and even before social security. Poverty among the elderly was staggering.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 $50 a year was not expensive 60 years ago. Also, perhaps you should be more specific than just the word "staggering." The bigger issue is that government intervention in health care has made things worse, not better, just like it has done with education and the social security program. These are all unconstitutional programs that hurt individuals and America as a whole.
ransom22 3 months ago

@ransom22 These things are certainly not unconstitutional. You need to lay off the Fixed News.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 This has nothing to do with Fox News since I don't watch that or any other news network. This has to do with the Constitution. There is no Constitutional authority for a federal department of education, government paid health care, or social security. The first two are covered in the 10th Amendment, and the third by Article 1, Section 8.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 I seem to recall the preamble stating something like "provide for the general welfare." The constitution is a flawed document, that counted black people as 3/5 of a person. We need some modern solutions to our current problems.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 It does say that, and that's another part of the Constitution that has been twisted and misused, especially in the past 50 years. Providing for the general welfare refers to things that benefit everyone, not just the majority of people. Also, providing for the general welfare does not specify anything in particular. That is why the 10th Amendment applies for things like education, health care, and retirement, none of which are rights.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 How does a quality education not benefit everyone? How does social security not benefit everyone? How does medicare not benefit everyone?
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 They necessitate taking from some to give to others. That doesn't benefit everyone. Also, there's again the 10th Amendment that gives these specific authorities to the states to provide or not as they choose. Public education, social security and medicare have all proven to be massive failures. So how have they benefited everyone? All the federal government has done is created monopolies in those areas which we both know is a terrible idea.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 Ho have they proven to be massive failures? Senior citizens now have a sense of security in their old age that they simply didn't before. What private insurance company want to insure a 75 year old sick person?!
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 Out public education system as a whole is terrible with rising costs for worse and worse quality of the education. Social Security is broke, which was predicted by the free market economists the whole time, but of course Washington thought Keynes had a better model. It also taught so many people not to be responsible financially because the gov't would take care of them. Nothing has increased the cost of health care in our country than medicare and medicaid.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 SO about those people who were responsible with their money in 2008 and invested in private retirement accounts and were WIPED OUT due to the Bush collapse. There's the "Free market" at work for you. What would have happened if Bush had succeeded in privatizing social security? People would have NOTHING to fall back on. Thank goodness they at least have social security to provide some basic stability in old age.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 That's just it. They weren't responsible with their money and neither were the businesses and banks that should have gone bankrupt. That was far from the free market at work. It was corporatism at work following a failed Keynesian economic policy that has never worked. Corporations in bed with Washington writing their own regulations and tax codes is not free market or capitalism. It's croanie-capitalism brought about by a government that much larger than it should be.
ransom22 3 months ago
@ransom22 "Writing their own regulations and tax codes" = Abolishing them. These businesses want ZERO regulation or taxation of any kind, which is laissez-faire free market capitalism at work. That is what the free market is, trying to screw the other guy before he screws you. Life is too short and precious to make seniors have to go it alone in their golden years.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 You do realize of course the 3/5ths rule was enacted so black slaves in the south could not be counted to boost representation in congress????The constitution is not flawed. Only when people like you skew it do benefit yourself... "The general welfare" Not the specific welfare....It's really easy to understand when you take into consideration it was written to include everyone, not classes of people....
bigbag70 3 months ago
@bigbag70 How can you say the constitution is not flawed when it denied women and blacks the right to vote, did nothing about slavery and counted blacks as 3/5 of person?!?! There are some serious flaws in the constitution my friend.
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 Your confusing,,, Woman voted as far back as the late 1700's as well as blacks.... And how can it be flawed if it was used in order to free slaves and end women's suffrage????Woman did not vote because only property owners were allowed to vote, you really should read at least once...The arguments your using are left propaganda. There's an app for that.
bigbag70 3 months ago
@bigbag70 It was originally flawed!! It took 70 years after the constitution was ratified to free the slaves and 120 years to get women's suffrage!!! Don't you think only allowing property owners the right to vote is a flaw?!
Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32, the 3/5 clause was to stop slave owners from counting their slaves as a vote, thereby keeping slavery in power. The founders had to keep a shaky union together while instilling in the Constitution the means to bring an end to slavery.
itssoEC 3 months ago
@itssoEC but not the means to provide education and healthcare to our citizens huh? There are certain things the founders could not have foreseen in 1791!!! There is not such thing as a "perfect" document, and the constitution certain is not perfect. We need to be able to adapt to changing times. We need some modern solutions to our modern problems.
Saebeck32 3 months ago

Saebeck32 3 months ago
@Saebeck32, that is, of course, your prerogative. I know that competition can make the providers strive for better quality at a lower price. A single supplier doesn't have the same pressure to perform.

itssoEC 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 I thought that way too. I'm Canadian, and we have all those public services, but when I look at education, it's awful! The students are not learning as much as they should, and the government just wants to produce graduates that the standards have gone down just to make sure we can give students a diploma. If it were private, there wouldn't be as many slackers in school who know they'll get that piece of paper without even working for it.
kublakhan1984 3 months ago
@Saebeck32 in addition, I have seen the medical system in action. It includes waiting to see a doctor for an appointment 2-3 hours AFTER your appointment. It also requires that you stay in line when you visit the Emergency department for HOURS before you can get seen. I've had to wait in the emergency department from 5 PM to 10 PM before my grandma who is diabetic got seen by the doctor. Yeah, it's free, but you may die before you see a doctor.
kublakhan1984 3 months ago

UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Than your parents can hire a good college tutor. Rather than waste thousands every year in taxes sent up to SACRAMENTO for you to be in class full of ILLEGALS & a incompetent teacher SPANISH teacher teaching you MATH & SPANGLISH. They bankrupt your parents into foreclosure, dumb down your education, & raised your tuition. FOX did not do that, its OBAMA democratic cronies up in SACRAMENTO that has given you no future.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Have you ever taught a class and/or TA for one at a UC school? Did you know how many kids from CA are in my engineering class when I TA at UCLA back in 2008? Less than 5%. Most of these ASIAN kids are from OVERSEAS. You democratic clowns have bankrupt a lot of LEGAL ASIAN FAMILIES here in CA. Families that have 3 or 4 kids in college. They pay billions in taxes & tuition to SAC & UC REGENTS, now they are screwed by the OBAMA raising tuition on them.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor Again, i don't live in California. And with all of your factual intolerance, you should probably not be teaching anything.
Saebeck32 2 months ago

UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Thousands of students were left stranded during finals week. One physics class I did not TA for had an average around 20% because all the TAs were on strike. As an undergrad you are only allowed to teach 1 class, but during this strike I was asked by my professor to TA for 4 more classes without pay. Grading 300 exams by myself. I did this because, I AM A TA AT UCLA! It was an HONOR, and a privilege. As an engineering professional in the private sector I feel the same way!
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor You implied Obama raised tuition, false. I wasn't aware a president had that authority. You suggested Obama is associated with the black panthers, false. You said Obama and Barney Frank are responsible for homelessness, when the mortgage crisis was allowed to grow under Bush due to his deregulation that led to this Bush recession we are still stuck in. You should consider moving to china if you like working long hours for no pay. No unions there to provide you with dignity.
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Barney FRANK & OBAMA was all about regulations. They forced banks to loan out money to scrupulous borrowers & asked the TAX PAYER to foot the default. UNIONs provide you with dignity? WHY cant you provide yourself with dignity? Why do you need to tax people for your dignity? EARN YOUR OWN DUES. How about you move to GREECE?
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Better yet, why dont you move out of your parents house or pay for your fair share? Heck you cannot even pay for your portion of your cell phone bill. If you have any dignity move out get a job & stop being on tax payer welfare or subsidizes or better yet stop maxing out your parents credit cards.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor Obama bankrupted their parents?!? The doe was at 6,000 when Obama was sworn in. It is now at 12,000. Obama lowered tax rates for EVERYONE. And we've had 21 straight months of private sector job growth. You seriously need to lay off the Fixed News. Where do you think you go weekends from? Vacations? Workplace safety? End of child labor?! UNIONS!!!
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 12,000? Its all paper money just like the housing crisis. You think the STOCK MARKET being at 12,000 because we produce, make, things without the government subsidizing it? Its like you gave your g/f a diamond ring that you paid with your parents CREDIT CARD. OBAMA printed money & threw it at the UNIONs, TRILLIONS spend & unemployment went from 4% to 9%. If you do not like where you work, quit, get an education & get a real job.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32
OffTheGlass87 2 months ago
@OffTheGlass87 For you to act like the debt we've had since world war 2 was the most important issue shows me that you are not a serious person. We had a major crisis on our hands and paying off the debt was not the top priority. Preventing the second great depression was. If you're so concerned about the debt, why not return to Clinton's tax rate when he left us with a budget surplus? Oh because the debt is so important that we should have a 3% tax increase on the rich, i see. Get real!!
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Get Real? The Clinton Tax rates won't touch this debt. What we need is to whittle our budget down to about 1/3 of what it is now. If you really think this is a revenue or tax rate problem than you are simply out of touch. It is clearly a spending problem.
acdclandon1 1 month ago
@acdclandon1 Returning to the slightly higher federal tax rates of the 1990's or even the 1980's under Reagan (That communist lol) we can eliminate the debt by 2036.
Saebeck32 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 I'm guessing that's if no new debt is added. Or if no new spending or programs are created. Which is not really a possibility for most government addicts in our country. I agree that we need more revenue in the face of this problem, but if we go back to those tax rates the extra revenue should go DIRECTLY towards paying off the debt. Even still massive cuts need to happen on top of that.
acdclandon1 1 month ago
@acdclandon1 Kinda like what President Obama offered the Fox News Tea Partiers in congress this summer and they REFUSED it!
Saebeck32 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 True Republicans in Congress are obviously out for their own interests. But I don't trust sleazy liberals to actually make a fiscally sound decision either. Why should we raise back those tax rates if there is no guarantee where that money is going? We got into this because of recklessly printing and spending money. So the solution is not to get more money, in fact in ways that is continuing the problem.
acdclandon1 1 month ago
@acdclandon1 The only president to leave us with a budget surplus was the liberal democrat Bill Clinton. The majority of our current national debt was run up by Reagan and George w Bush. Spending cuts need to be made down the road, but not in the middle of this recession cause by Bush's deregulation policies.
Saebeck32 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 that is not true and coherent with what really happened. Reagan was the ONLY president at the time that was willing to go after the federal reserve and fight inflation.
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 and like Milton explained. The bad effects come first while the good ones come after. Just like quitting alcohol.
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@tehatemachine We can lower taxes once the national debt is 100% eliminated.
Saebeck32 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 by raising taxes you will increase the national debt while making government bloated and out of control. The symptoms are already starting to show with what happens when you have TOO much government. go on google right now and click on the logo. Notice how it has a giant black box around it. MY POINT PROVEN! doing good by force =/= good.
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 The only way we can heavily reduce debt. IS by cutting the shit out of government. Think of it as cleaning up a heavily horded room with junk that you do not need. That junk being governmental programs. All they do is take up space in that room while you trip and stumble over cords and wires. With a clean room (government) It can serve more of it's function by having space for in which the people can operate while upholding basic laws.
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@tehatemachine Well let's start with the 2 largest contributors to our debt: the military and the Bush tax cuts.
Saebeck32 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 Haha that's not even a small fraction of the pie. The largest contributors to debt are welfare programs. Milton Imposed the idea behind giving the government a limited budget to go by. IF you even knew you history then you'd know that by increasing taxes. You REDUCE business and create poverty. Increasing taxes has no such thing in creating the utopia you imagine. Government doesn't drive the economy businesses do.
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@acdclandon1 Revenue can only be generated by output. And really not only do you need to worry about how much you are spending. But also how much you are producing.
tehatemachine 1 month ago
@Saebeck32 Why dont your google OBAMA & BLACK PANTHERS & see the pictures for yourself. OBAMA is a UNION ass kisser, along with all the stupid DEMOCRATIC clowns in CALIFORNIA which has bankrupt this state.

UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Because of this Union fiasco, thousands of Lations & Black students flunked Physics. And to make matters worst the TA Union disintegrated & the University black listed them & hired new undegrad TAs, leaving most of my friends without a job. All because the UNIONs wanted a piece of the TA's salary for their dues.

UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor I'm talking about not having a cent of my tax money go to purchasing weapons for our military, and not a cent of my tax money going to train our soldiers or provide them with supplies. You're ok with that?
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 You are right, the government should work like the rest of us. They can have as many supplies & soldiers they want, provided they earn every cent of it in the private sector & not take it from its citizens, because that is slavery. Taking money from the private sector to pay for a war a government cannot afford is economic suicide.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Same thing with the UNIONs, they can have all the dues, all the pensions, all the health benefits they want. Earn it all in the private sector, do not expect me to pay for it.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 You are right, good argument. You should not send your hard earn money to fund the war that I am against too. Same with your stupid UNION. I do not want to pay for your UNION pensions or salary. DO you want to pay for WALMARTS salary & pensions of its WORKERS?
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor At least you're consistent. Wal-Mart offers no public service. Will Wal-Mart come to rescue me if my house catches fire? Your argument makes no sense.

Of course not, thats what INSURANCE is for. If the government did not tax you into bankruptcy you can afford a very good insurance to cover your house. WalMart provide jobs & does not tax me, & it provide value to its stockholders & tax revenue for your OBAMA UNION jobs to waste. Unlike SOLYNDRA.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor Taxes are at their lowest level in 50 years. I know that facts don't get through to you folks living in Fox News fantasy land, but you should consider them every now and then. So wouldn't privatized firefighters funded by insurance companies only protect the rich neighborhoods? What incentive do they have to protect poor neighborhoods when they're not turning a profit?
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Federal taxes stay the same you might be right about that, but not in CALIFRONIA. You think the democratic IDIOTS take only 10% of your salary in CA? What about permits, fees, fines, licenses, property tax, sewage tax, gas & electric tax, business & capital gains tax, tuition, registration which has risen 100% in the last 4 years? Also what about INFLATION TAX, gas has risen almost $2 when OBAMA took office for all the money OBAMA has been printing?
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago

@Saebeck32 You are a moron, you do not pay a dime in taxes, because once you start paying for your own, you realize the more you make, the more OBAMA takes. You realize how much OBAMA & the democratic cronies up in SACRAMENTO has screwed you over.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 @Saebeck32 Guess where all the poorest neighborhoods are? GOVERNMENT FUNDED HOUSING especially in CHICAGO which OBAMA & his BLACK PANTHERS touted are worst than a 3rd world country. These politicians like OBAMA funnel & skim off the top of these government subsidizes, wasting billions of taxpayer $ in growing their political bureaucracy than give the crumbs to the poor. Just like SOLYNDRA, where they cannot even pay the JANITOR. OBAMA creates no incentive.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor A lot to explain here my misguided friend. Yes, federal taxes are at the lowest rate in 50 years. Obama has not control over state taxes. Your republican governor, Arnold, seemed to cause quite a mess in your state. Sorry to hear that. Your "the more you make, the more Obama takes" is simply false, as his tax rate is lower than Reagan's, that socialist lol.
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 You are a moron, ARNOLD tried to pass UNION reform through proposition 73, 74, 75, & 76 back in 2006. How old were you than? 18/19? Did you vote yes on those propositions? Those propositions got rid of UNION dues, tenure, & cut spending on ILLEGAL education. They were all defeated, because the state UNION workers using their million $ of taxpayer dues bought negative political ads. OBAMA democratic cronies up in SACRAMENTO has bankrupt CA like it bankrupt GREECE.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 months ago
@UCSDEngineerDoctor And why do suppose public housing is where poor people live? Maybe because they couldn't afford any alternative. THATS WHY WE HAVE PUBLIC HOUSING!! Were you expecting a lot of millionaires to be living there lol? And what is your alternative to public housing? Just let people be homeless?? How christian of you.
Saebeck32 2 months ago
@Saebeck32 Public housing was poor because instead of giving those people jobs, you basically threw money at the problem. You have public housing because CHICAGO with its UNION gangs have stifled competition so that no company can afford to set up business, hence people have to look to OBAMA for handouts, making them dependent, while the UNION Bosses & OBAMA lived in the lap of luxury. The only people that made people HOMELESS is OBAMA & Barney Frank.

@quinnrasta Here's some more facts you may have left out- following the Pinochet/Friedman Coup inflation rose 375% in 1974, unemployment reached 40%, 55% of Chileans lived below the poverty line.......now private industry in Chile prospered partly because they bought public utilities at a fraction of what they were actually worth....so immense public wealth was transferred to the richest corporatist....Same with Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay...it wasn't until the late 90's that those economies
sandinista138 6 months ago
@quinnrasta rejected the Free Market ideology and have managed to regain their strenghth...another fact your leaving out...Friedman policies or what you call "Free" were only implemented through the systematic overthrow of a democratically elected government through the use of F-14 U.S fighter planes....those policies are so unpopular with the masses that they will never be chosen through democracy...fact. I'm through arguing with a mindless ideologue
sandinista138 6 months ago
@sandinista138 The Global Competitiveness Report for 2009-2010 ranks Free market Chile as being the 30th most competitive country in the world and the first in Latin America, well above from Brazil (56th) and Argentina which ranks 85th. Real economic output declined by 19% just in 1982 and 1983 and most of the recovery and subsequent growth took place after Pinochet left office.when market-oriented economic policies were additionally strengthened. Friedman was never about central gov.Nice try DA
