  • I have searched FOREVER to find a good tutorial that I can follow and yours is by far the best on Youtube!

You also have a really lovely, soothing voice. Have you ever thought of doing voice-overs or narration for children's books? Every time I hear your voice I think of Beatrix Potter!

  • Love it!

But when I back comb my hair it just gets really fluffy, no real volume there... What am i doing wrong?

  • My friend wants me to do this style for her this weekend. She has quite long curly red hair. Do you suggest I flatiron it first before doing this? Or blowdry it? Or both?

  • @MrCangoods2 Blowdrying clean hair will make it too slippery and flat ironing will also loose the volume you need. I'd suggest instead using a curling iron to soften and smooth the curl into larger loose curls, so it retains its bounce but is a smoother finished style.

I'd love to hear how it goes!

  • love her accent <3

  • i really like this lady and her voice she's a good teaches and somehow her voice is really calming

  • What is the awesome background music? I am throwing a martini party and would love to have similiar music at the party. Also, love the tutorial. Followed your steps, went out for dinner, and my boyfriend loved it!

  • Oh my god, your voice was like getting a massage for my earlobes!

I usually find the Aussie accent a bit harsh (considering I'm Australian myself) but your voice reminds me of Claudia Black.

You're absolutely gorgeous (Much like Claudia Black herself :P) and this was a great tutorial!

  • Aww what a treasure of a voice! ...Kawaii hairstyle too! ...Domo Superkawaiimama!

  • your so gorgeous!!! i wish i had ur facial features.

  • this really helped me, Thanks ;) !!

  • Did it for my Halloween party last night. Pretty easy and effective! Thank you : )

  • I love that background music! What band is it?

  • Well done! love it!

  • @stroeiulia1 I thought the same thing!

  • awww love it!!!! you made it seem really easy, but I know I'll struggle!! lol!!! thanks a bunch though cant wait to try it out!!xx

  • Holy shit, you're beautiful! And your voice could probably calm down a room full of angry people.

  • Trying to figure out which episode Joan had hair like that...good try though.

  • I Loved her. Im going to try this but was wondering if I used a curling iron and created Barrell curls then did the styling so that theres more of a wave as well as base? Cause my client has very straight heavy hair

  • WTF wooow I'm wow speechless this bitch is in compton rolling up with that kindah hair that shit is probly bullet proff and shit hahahahah

  • are you seriously going out like that ?? i would be ashamed if a was you

  • If you have more pins than hair in...does that mean you've done it right?

  • this looks terrible

  • Beautiful hair, beautiful girl - loved it!

  • amazing!

  • @Brizzle0318 And when she has uploaded her tutorial you'll be sure to let me know then?

  • @superkawaiimama OH SNAP! YOU GO GIRL!

  • @superkawaiimama BAM!

    Solid response.

  • you have sooo much hair woow its so pretty plus i love ur acent ^^ nice tutorial x

  • I literally JUST came back from a Madmen party. The birthday boy danced with me all 60'slike :)

Although people said I looked more than Audrey Hepburn, thanks for the Joan 'do!

  • You are STUNNING

  • You have such a great voice when you speak; I like it very much ... as much as your tutorials

  • hey

im sorry this kind of doesnt have anything to do with this video but i LOVE this kind of music

can you give me an idea of some famous people/bands, or anything to look up for this kind of music?

  • Thank God a DIY tutorial with a girl who doesn't have an irritating voice! I hate how these other girls have the squiky voice and how they insist on yelling (as to become MORE annoying)!

  • Oh goodness! I love Mad Men style and have been incorporating it into my day-to-day wear and went all out for Halloween. The tutorial was sooo easy to follow and my hair looked really good -- I'm going to keep practicing so the next time it will look great! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  • what does one do if they have bangs/fringe? do we still section out two parts like you did in the front, to secure the hive?

  • You don't have to. I used mine as it is long and helps to hide the pins at the back. You could curl your fringe under and separate into a part for something nice.

  • I'll start experimenting with the curling suggestion. Yesterday I tried it the way you exhibited in the video, it worked out fine, I just had to put my fridge out of the way, and style them last.

  • LOL that made me laugh, I'm thinking, "Wow your curls were so big you had to move the fridge out of the way?!" Don't worry, I type like that too. :) Glad to hear it is working.

  • I'm glad to make you laugh. Intercontinental laughter doesn't happen often enough.

  • Awesome job! I'm in cosmetology school and we are having a updo competition today, and I'm going to try this!

  • You're gorgeous!

  • Thank you so much! Your video is perfect and will cap off the costumes of my friend and I who are going with a whole group as Mad Men style secretaries, with only one Mad man. We will certainly be the smash hit of the party. Thanks again, and I will certainly look at your other videos!

  • i love this style but im curious of how the bandana is tied in the begining of the video 00:22

  • It is a long rectangular silk scarf. I've just given it a twist in the middle, then tied it at the bottom underneath the hair. Nothing fancy really. :)

  • seriously that really easy well thanks so much hun :)

  • OMGTHANKYOU!!!! I'm doing some Halloween type things as Joan this year, so this rocks!

  • I love you,you look very classy original, and you look like came from 40's or 50's,I meen your face and features,I adore you.Even your voice is innocent and lovely,God bless you darling

  • I LOVE YOU!!!! Your tutorial is awesome!

But I´ve got a little question: do this work for wavy shoulder lenght hair? Mine heaven´t grown as long as yours for months and I´d love to try this hairdo!

  • That all depends on your skill level. The other option is creating a smaller pouf with those Bumpits things.

  • Strawberrykoivintage did a loveley beehive style w/ her shoulder-length hair using a 'homemade' bumpit much like kawaiimama's in her Amy Winehouse vid. I haven't tried it yet but it looks quite simple.

  • I have wavy shoulder-length hair and I got it to work by first blow drying my hair straight and then rolling my hair in hot rollers, using hairspray generously between each stage. After brushing the curls out I followed this tutorial and it worked like a charm. And I am by no means skilled at doing hair!

  • you know what hair spray works fabulous with these updos? the untie tricky lite. it's half hairspray half wax and it works wonders for keeping updos in place!

i have super thin hair so it's hard to use lots of product and this stuff never fails.

  • I'll have to look into that. I haven't heard of it here in Australia, but I might see if I can find an equivalent product for friends.

  • P E R F E C T <3

  • thanks! love your posts, they're so helpful. do you have any suggestions on how to create some height in the back (without teasing) when wearing a head band? i have incredibly fine/thin hair and i really hate to backcomb it.

  • Lots of people have recommended "Bump its" for this purpose. They aren't here in Australia, but I believe you can get them in the US.

  • Just to update - I got myself some Bumpits this week via eBay and will be doing some new tutorials with them in the coming weeks.

  • This actually reminds me of more of a Trudy Campbell style of updo... Regardless, thanks for the instructional video!

  • Yes, I can see what you mean! When I made this I hadn't really paid much attention to her, but was trying to get the Joan vibe with long hair - which I suppose is a bit more Trudy. :)

  • GOOD STUFF HERE

mad men is teh best damn show out there!

whoever decided to only have it on once a week should be fired!

  • Thanks everyone! I have some more Mad Men styles on the way soon.

  • you are amazing ! and truly gorgeous

  • You are so utterly gorgeous. Not glamorous, that is too cheap for you. You are truly gorgeous. Another great video dear!

    -Plum

  • How do you do your head scarf like that?

    Wb

  • I'll have to think about that! I can't remember! :)

  • Wow. You are so adorable. In a good way. In a very good way. :)

  • Loved it. I've been trying to do hair like hers for a while, I plan on being Joan for Halloween. Your video was great, I did it pretty well in 15 mins. :)

  • Wow! thanks for this video! :)

    5 stars for u :)

  • LOOVE IT!!!!

  • I don't like that much the 1960s style, usually, but that updo was really great, like all the other ones of yours!

    Please, make more vintage updos!

PS: your blog is great, too. I usually lurk around it...

  • Yes please more vintage stuff. Perhaps mens stuff? If you get a model. 5 star, awesome.

  • I think I have told you this before, but, you are my favorite person. :)

  • cute! I love it!
