haha the objectivity point is really good. I always try to see things like that when discussing, and while it can suck a little admitting something you like might not have the same quality as something else, in the end of the day is something you have fun with, and that's what matters.
I don't think nostalgia is such a bad thing. It's good to remember the good old days and try to relive that. You just need to keep nostalgia in perspective, like TB says. Not everything that was old is good, and there's a reason why we are nostalgic about some things. But it doesn't mean that thing is perfect either. Just keep it all in perspective.

EVE's learning curve isn't quite as ferocious as it used to be - CCP's recent big updates have been on helping the newer gamer get into the game quicker with more of an understanding of how to play the game (as well as spruce up other stuff, which I'm cool with too), but this is what I've read from recent news emails.

I think objectively, and thought myself to do so. Unfortunately it seems to be a waist since whenever i try to explain my reason for liking something someone else doesn't as soon as i say something like i agree the the graphics in this game are bad or the multiplayer in this game isn't to good I immediately get told that they were right and i was wrong.
I loved AQ 40 and AQ 20 so much that I thought I would LOVE to run Molten Core. ......I quit after the first boss. It was HORRIBLE. My take on WoW today: Back in the day, the STORY and the DESIGNS were much, much, much better. However a lot of the mechanics were terrible. In my opinion, the story in Cata has fallen flat and the designs are getting lazy. So despite the lovely new graphics, mechanics, and ambiance, I do not like it. For those who DO like Cata, however? I am happy that you do. ^.^

Back in High School, my Economic/Government teacher always opened the day with Objective/Subjective debates. Which, I loved. No other classes did that. Hated the class subject itself, but I loved the debates we had.

I couldn't get into EVE. I never tried WoW, but from what I'm hearing i never will. I tried the free trial of EVE and I played for all of three days before getting bored. I appreciate the massive depth int hat game, I really do, but the combat is fucking awful and that was deadly to my interest.

I like single player games, they're entertaining to me so i stick with them (Fallout 3, Starcraft 2 etc). its what you find entertaining that matters and COD black ops single player well..sucks

These videos are actually a lot about human psychology :P This episode for example, was a lot about how people seek things that confirm what they think they know and discount things that challenge this: hence the fanboys/-girls, hence the seeking flaws within new games and celebrating them. Nostalgia is just the result of the inability to attribute the fact that they liked part 1 and disliked part 2 to a change in their own expectations. It doesn't make sense to them and blame the developers...
I would be really interested in seeing a few EVE-Videos from you, if you ever return to it.
I'm sure there would be a market for some kind of advanced tutorial, because the new tutorial in the game explains almost all of the mechanics but none of the social dynamics of EVE, if that makes any sense.
That being said, I feel about the game like you and a lot of other people. It just lacks a goal and I feel lost in all the possible things I can do, so I ultimately quit the game, bored.
@Madix3 i have slowed of eve play Due to RL but will be back in full swing soon hopefully, and the new content for the Incarna Patch will change all of the Tutorial and leaning curve stuff which will be awesome for new players
Huge point about demos. I only new IPs I buy are 1)very critically acclaimed 2)cheap or 3)have a demo I enjoyed. $60 is just too much to wager on a game I may not enjoy.

In regards to the 2nd response, I must admit there have been cases where I am cynical in review of a game, most recent case was the Witcher II, I enjoyed the game, liked it but hated some things about it, but what really irked me was the fanbase shouting game of the year in every post. The game has flaws, and I think its unfair for people researching it to get flooded by rose colored posts. And I find a balanced view is better then a circle jerk.

The younger generation argues and fights about their favorite games and console because they have nothing else to be passionate about. In the 30s-90s youth fought about nationalism, political movements, the Cold War, etc, and now? What do people have to fight about? Life is relatively good, peaceful, prosperous, there is no fear of a nuclear war. Unless you live in a politically turbulent region like Middle East or Africa, video game is the only thing you can put your passion in.
The problem with eve isn't that the learning curve is steep, it's that it's boring. And I mean catas grindiest-dailies-grind is like being in a hot tub with Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Christina Hendricks. That is how unmeasurably boring EVE Onlines gameplay is. EVE is so boring compared to WoW as WoW is to something genuinely entertaining such as ... Crysis.

eve is just an overly elaborate pvp game, which is fine for those that enjoy it, but i want to play an epic space-opera and single-handedly save the universe from evildoers. :( wtb starcraft online!

These videos are actually a lot about human psychology :P This episode for example, was a lot about how people seek things that confirm what they think they know and discount things that challenge this: hence the fanboys/-girls, hence the seeking flaws within new games and celebrating them. Nostalgia is just the result of the inability to attribute the fact that they liked part 1 and disliked part 2 to a change in their own expectations. It doesn't make sense to them and blame the developers...

I would be really interested in seeing a few EVE-Videos from you, if you ever return to it.
I'm sure there would be a market for some kind of advanced tutorial, because the new tutorial in the game explains almost all of the mechanics but none of the social dynamics of EVE, if that makes any sense.
That being said, I feel about the game like you and a lot of other people. It just lacks a goal and I feel lost in all the possible things I can do, so I ultimately quit the game, bored.

@Madix3 i have slowed of eve play Due to RL but will be back in full swing soon hopefully, and the new content for the Incarna Patch will change all of the Tutorial and leaning curve stuff which will be awesome for new players

Huge point about demos. I only new IPs I buy are 1)very critically acclaimed 2)cheap or 3)have a demo I enjoyed. $60 is just too much to wager on a game I may not enjoy.

In regards to the 2nd response, I must admit there have been cases where I am cynical in review of a game, most recent case was the Witcher II, I enjoyed the game, liked it but hated some things about it, but what really irked me was the fanbase shouting game of the year in every post. The game has flaws, and I think its unfair for people researching it to get flooded by rose colored posts. And I find a balanced view is better then a circle jerk.

The younger generation argues and fights about their favorite games and console because they have nothing else to be passionate about. In the 30s-90s youth fought about nationalism, political movements, the Cold War, etc, and now? What do people have to fight about? Life is relatively good, peaceful, prosperous, there is no fear of a nuclear war. Unless you live in a politically turbulent region like Middle East or Africa, video game is the only thing you can put your passion in.

The problem with eve isn't that the learning curve is steep, it's that it's boring. And I mean catas grindiest-dailies-grind is like being in a hot tub with Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Christina Hendricks. That is how unmeasurably boring EVE Onlines gameplay is. EVE is so boring compared to WoW as WoW is to something genuinely entertaining such as ... Crysis.

@ the first letter... you left wrath for various reasons including raid dificulty... i hope to god by that u mean it was too easy... so in cata u claim its the same, personally now that im 3/13 i would say the difficulty is spot on, u got up to full heroic pieces, and crafted epics.... and gave up... you sir did not even experiance real raiding in cata, and u said nothing about pvp... so u were an undergeared pve noob, and u seem to claim u can make a judgement on the state of cata...
