  • The funny thing is thats my moms bf cuz

  • dats my cuzo he playing for collage

  • They need to let this man play NOW!

  • as a texas fan i like him,his height most rb are like under 6 foot

  • chris is the best! my daddy was his coach! booyaa!

    Madisonville!!!!

  • well hes gud but he also has a gud o line cuz most of the time he just runs thru them doesnt break any tackles

  • sooooo not true didnt have much of an offensive line i know cuz i was there... not saying he didnt have any but did you not see the very 1st play of the video he broke like 10 tackles!!!

  • Whaley, Whittaker, and Johnson will make an awesome group of tailbacks

    Hook 'em!

  • Don't forget McGee. He should be the starter.

  • dude texas will have the best offense this year i think they will put up around 60 a game a very good o line with those tailbacks and good wide outs and most of all colt the best offense of all time

  • don't forget tre' newton he's beast too!

  • maybe not adrian peterson, whaley reminds me of bennie wells. buts its all good to me in the end

  • that poor quaterback lol

  • Can't wait to see him suit up for the horns next year.

  • Lower those pads, homeboy! If Applewhite can work with him this summer, this boy can be the next coming of Adrian Peterson in the Big XII...mad potential!

  • Vondrell had a few flashes last year when he was on the field, and scored a few TDs in the process. If he was given more playing time, he could be a play maker, he was a play maker in the few plays he was in last year! This guy is a beast! He has a lot of potential and I'm glad he's a Texas Longhorn! HOOK EM!

  • who's this fool using generalizations about Texas having "over rated" players..LOL - Colt McCoy was behind Vince Young (aka Superman) & Ryan Whackadude Perriloozer and he's over rated?

Oh and smart guy chukie - Benson just signed with Bengals - gettin' paid, reppin' Texas baby

  • badass block at 4:46

  • I ain't impressed...

  • What you meant to say chuck is that that your an ou fan and you're blind, lol

  • Really?

He weighs 239 and leaves people in the dust after running over their teamates. What else does he need to do to impress you!?

  • We'll wait and see how he plays in college.

  • Fair enough.

With his size and speed he already has the college physique. But you never know how a player will turn out in college, I'm hoping for the best tough. I think he has alot of potential.

  • oops...though not tough.

  • And another thing. Ya'll got a thing with overrated football players. Cedric Benson was the greatest Running back in Texas High school football and what he do college. What is he doing now in the NFL? REGGIE MCNEAL? Lil' VONDRELL MCGEE was running through High School Teams.. Division 1 will really put your skills to the test.

  • Also, Cedric Benson had an amazing college career, 1 of only 5 players to ever run for over 1,000 yards 4 straight years while increasing the total each year. Also, he won the Doak Walker award. And Ibtw, who are those guys that had major hype from TX highschools that seemed to turn out pretty well in the NFL right now...oh yeaf LT and AP. I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, but basically to say that he isnt impressive based on the overrated players in the past doesnt make sense.

  • Ya'll Jovorskie Lane was like this.. Look at him now.

  • Thats a ridiculous generalization. Chris is in far better shape than Javorski ever was. Just because they have similar height and weight doesnt mean they have similar body types. Plus Javorski never had the explosive characteristics that Chris has. Javorski should have moved to defense just like Henry Melton.

  • I don't know. I think just because you big and fast don't mean you gonna just run through college teams.. With his side and good blocking of course he's gonna run through high school defenses. Let's find out what he's gonna do in college. He might be moved to Defense.

  • I agree, noboy can know how a player will turn out at the next level, but I still dont see how that justifies this highlight video not being impressive. The only thing we know for sure is that he was a beast in highschool and the potential is there for college. Also, you point about Vondrell, Benson and MCGEE is pretty vague. EVery D1 runningback ran wild in highschool, and most of them dont do much in college or the NFL. So you cant label everyone the same.

  • Texas is in the big12... he has a chance at running through defenses.

  • o dear god...can't wait! bring on OU baby!! hook'em horns!!

  • anyone with an understanding of football can see this aint Henry Melton. Who ever said that knows nothing.

  • He isn't starting next year. Fozzy Whittaker, Cody Johnson, McGee are all past him on the depth chart. I wouldn't be surprised if he redshirts. Hales is gonna be a WR not running back. And you better believe the Texas coaches will teach him to lower the shoulder..

  • fozzy Cody and Vondrell are all slow he actually has some kind of speed plus fozzy is far to fragile

  • are you crazy man fozzy runs a 4.4

  • Fozy is nowhere near slow and Cody has some deceptive speed.

  • I was talking of game speed. Fozzy reacts far to slow put him in a crowd and he doesnt know what to do. plus he is far to fragile to take 25 carries a game thats why i think he would be a good "complement to Chris Whaley. cody does have some deceptive speed but he would get gassed out way to fast. He would be a beast if he could lose 20-30 pounds. Whaley looks like a bigger stronger faster Obagnaya but not as ugly

  • I love watchin Cody run, I would love to see some two back sets with Chris and Cody, their both so big and strong that either one could lead block. They should come up with some creative running attacks for those two guys.

  • Comment removed

  • Gee he reminds like a guy back in 2005... Henry Melton... This kid is probably gonna pull the same thing and not be able to take a hit for his size. They'll end up putting him at a DE or Linebacker. They should play McGee as their faster back or maybe Desean Hales and then have Whittaker or Johnson as a power back

  • Whaley is a lot better then Melton. He is faster, has better hands, and has more quickness to him. Melton was just bigger.

  • with his size and speed i wouldnt be shocked to see him converted to most troubled area...tightend, i think he'd a great short rout running target that could even run a few draw plays like the tightend at florida did against ou

  • k, first lemme make something clear, this guy is incredible, he looks like a d tackle playing running back, towering over everybody, hitting the holes with speed, making guys miss, outrunning defenders and even catching passes. but one thing i dont understand is why he wont lower his shouldr and use his 230 or so frame to level a cornerback, there must have been 10 instances where i thought he would lift someone off the ground earl campbell style, but insted tries to avoid someone haf his size

  • earl had a couple jukes in him

  • Comment removed

  • hes not gonna start. it'll be mcgee or whittaker.. it could be cody johnson if he gets quicker..this kid does look good though

  • Whaley is probably an instant starter as a freshman for the Longhorns being they lack a solid go to running back, if he does not start they probably have coaching problems in the brain dept. His size is perfect for the read option the offense uses contrary to the small ball UT used this past season.

Colt McCoy will love his ability to catch the ball from the backfield. Hopefully he gets a step or two quicker in the off-season without losing size.

I say he starts game 1 next season....why not?

  • Good lord he looks like a lineman with 4.5 speed. Hook Em Chris !!

  • dont forget this is 3A football.. we'll see what happens.. i hope he is as good as he looks

  • I think he runs over an away from 5A kids just as easily, does not matter if he played in 3A.

Most of the state of Texas best running backs historically from the smaller schools, his HS classification should not factor into what he can do.

People thought Craig James (4A) would be better than Eric Dickerson (2A) at SMU but Dickerson turned out to be man, we all know the history.

  • I think it's more so that no one clearly wants to tackle the guy. We'll just have to see what happens when he gets to the next level.

  • health insurance for defensive players in the big twelve is going to go way up. He doesn't look like hes moving that fast, but he seems to run by almost everyone....if he hasn't already run over them. Can't wait to see him at Texas. What will this kid look like when he matures and gets on UT's strength and conditioning program. I'm excited about this kid.

  • if he gets moved to defense he'd make a better weak side lb than de. but i hope they keep him at rb he could be a game changer.

  • i love that play where he takes the handoff and just runs straight through the defense. Oh wait that's every play.

  • wow rfin3 ur dumb

  • Where in any highlight have you seen him be physical and run over smaller players? He will need to be physical in the BIG 12 to be a RB, not just fast.

  • rfin3.. sorry that was my brother he decided to get on my account and make comments... sorry.. dont take it personally against me

  • have you heard of cedric benson, ricky big pothead williams, earl campbell, ahmad hall and now cody johnson, preist holmes, i think hell be running the ball.

  • He will probably be moved to defensive end. UT does not like big, bruising RB's in their zone read scheme. Keep an eye on Aaron Green-sophmore at San Antonio Madison. He already scored 9 TDS in ONE game. Probably will commit to UT but still has 2 years left in high school.

  • Whaley is not a power back for his size, which is evident in his highlight reel. He won't outrun players who are just as big and just as fast, if not bigger and faster than he is on the collegiate level.

  • u are crazy! no way n hell they will move him to D end.

  • See what all the recruiting analyst say. He'll be moved to defense.

  • They also said Vince Young would be moved to wide reciever look what happend there

  • There's something wrong with this video. Has it been edited? The play starts, the handoff goes to Whaley, and the kid just starts running away. On 99% of the runs on this video he's just...running. Unbothered by the defense. 6'3" 230?! Incredible.

  • no sir. no editing here. hes bad played with him 2 years

  • Hook'em!!! its bout time we get a big bruisin rb at texas.

  • i played against him and his speed is so deceptive.. it looks like hes going 2mph but when he goes by its like a damn freight train.. and he is bigger than a lineman.. look for this on espn in the future

  • where did u play

  • check out joe vega highlighs and comment

  • This boy is big as hell he look like a linemen running the football

Cant believe he runs a 4.5 DAMN

  • 8/10 he scores when he touches the ball

  • This guy is a beast... Can't wait to see him running at UT with Garret Gilbert at QB.

  • ok look let clear this up this my boy chirs we play together a madisonville and he is going to ut and play he just ran the 40 right before school let out he ran a 4.45 we got a lot of talant on the team like up comeing star brook taylor runs a 4.3 so and the yall are talkin bout ad he wasnt shit compare to benny mosley i got the film where madisonville played palestine u wanna see it holla at me

  • It's not all about the speed, homie. It's about how your react when you're getting chased down and hit by a Big 12 DB or DL + work ethic/discipline + intelligent decisionmaking. Speed, by itself, means nothing. I'd rather have Chris Whaley pounding away at D's inch-by-inch then a one-hit-wonder Jamaal Charles who coughs up the football and costs us the game. Those UT scouts must've seen something in him that you didn't or can't see.

  • yea tru but JC did just fine he was smaller then any of the other backs yet he still proved he could be a great back.

  • i play with him so i know what it is but u know

  • He isn't an every down runningback he is a home run threat. He, Tre Newton and Desean Hale together will be unstoppable sorta like Jamal Charles, Selvin Young and Ramonce Taylor

  • isnt he 6'3'' 200 and sumthin pounds and he is not an every down back haha

  • look at the way he runs, its very upright. Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Jamal Charles, were every down backs they all ran very low to the ground.

Its all good since we are better off using a runningback by commitee any way

  • yea but he is a everydont back 6'3'' 220lbs trust me adrain peterson runs upright to and he does just fine. so its all good.

  • Running upright is a term people made up so that they could say something negative about Adrian Peterson. Eric Dickerson and Eddie George were both 6'3, dominated in college and went on to have successful pro careers.

  • Adrian Peterson has been injured every year since his freshman season at OU. If you play football you know upright runners are more prone to injuries

and 99.9% of upright runners have alot of trouble in short yardage. Don't worry unless we get the second coming of ricky williams we are better of using multiple runningbacks like we did in 2005

  • Watch Peterson run though, he lowers his pads at every opportunity and delivers some big hits. Running upright seems to imply that you receive more hits than you give. Either way, running backs of any size take a beating and get injured so I don't see the point in speculating.

  • watch an old Jets/Patriots game, Curtis Martin almost never takes a clean hit.

Texas has many great runningbacks coming in and Whaley is one of them, we should use more then one, its just more effective.

  • No state produces running backs like texas

  • California is up there too... San Diego alone has produced 4 heisman winning runningbacks

  • especially a former heisman winner who played for Texas

  • @enow60 dude ohio does!!!! ohio actually produces the best recruits!!!!

an there's literally no arguing with it!!!!

  • @TMurphis ohio produces the best recruits? wow...

  • @jmort2385 they don't have the best recruits or intelligence, apparently.

  • @TMurphis you might actually be retarded...

  • he already commited to Texas dumbass

  • LONGHORN OH youre dumb ass shit

Vince Young from Houston(Hiram Clarke to be exact)

  • whitch is technically houston

  • What are you farting about, dillweed??

  • i played with this kid and his brother so im gonna keep it open, talked to him 2 days ago. who knows wat he will do

  • lets not count our eggs before they hatch. i hope he stays close to home but with older bro headed up north to Nebraska i wouldn't rule that option out either. lots can happen between now and Feb 1, 2009!

  • dude shut up who would want to go to nebraska right now they suck he made his hoice he said no turning back now im going to UT

  • man Texas is getting someything special 240 pound running back i heard this guy ran a 4.5

    speed and power=deadly combination

  • ...this guy will be Beanie Wells with a better OL.

  • Wells was on roids in high school cmon honestly look at his pics an explain to me how hes not on HGH

  • Thats what I see also LOH.

  • wow...this guy...coming in with THREE top 100 OL's and a behemoth NFL-sized Center, Mason Walters, in 2009, who will make Whaley's up and down running unstoppable.

Big 12, good luck stopping Texas once they get inside your 5-yard line in 2009-11(12). lol

  • Lower your shoulders some, keep high stepping like you are, and get that speed up some and you will be #1 pick in 4 years when you go to the NFL. UT, UT, UT, UT, UT, HOOK'EM HORNS!

  • i'm in the mustang band and i play the trumpet for Chris and he is the number one RB in the USA

  • i blocked for this kid in high school. this video was shot durin my senior year. hes pretty dam good. the one that gets over looked is his older brother who signed with Nebreska in Feb. he played fullback and Linebacer for us my senior year. they both have their heads on straight and should make a positive impact at the next level. cant wait to see what they do.

  • I have a highlight on Alonzo also, he is a very good LB.

  • He is fantastic! I hope he goes to UT.

  • he commited to them like 2 months ago

  • Thank you Rockets! That is great news even if old!

  • The only guy that brought him down in htis video was 2008 Texas commit Blake Gideon.

  • Man amongst boys, can't wait until he is in Austin.

  • Just an added note to prove my point:

Of the Top 30 NFL RB's in '07 only 1 is taller than 6'2 (Brandon Jacobs at 6'4) the other 28 being 6'1 and under with the lone exception of Steven Jackson at 6'2.

Of the Top 30 NFL RB's in '07 only 6 are at or above 230 lbs. (Dayne, Jamal,S.Jackson,Jacobs, McGahee, and Lendale White). So, 26 RB's are under 230. 12 are 220-230 lbs. 12 are under 220 lbs.

Let's not even look at the all-timer best at the position - it's even worse.

  • That probably has just as much to do with the fact that it's rare to find NFL level running skills in larger people. If you look at world class sprinters they range from 5'5 to 6'3 but nothing more or less. Average height for an American is about 5'10 so it's no surprise that you don't find many running backs at either height extreme. When you do though, you'll find they're just as good.

  • If they're "just as good" to take Jacobs...I'll

    take AP.

  • This guy,Bolt from Jamaica, just won the 100m in world record time. And he's 6'5.I'm not picking, I'm just saying.

  • Peterson is at least 6'2 so is larry johnson.

    Tall runningbacks rock.

  • Ok, Oz2 - Point taken. Of course when you look at his size as a sophomore, it actually looks like the odds are he'd get slower since he's not through growing. Look - I'm not saying the kid can't play. Obviously he can. I just think by the time he's draft eligible he'll have slowed considerably and have outgrown the position.

  • What about Brandon Jacobs? By your measure shouldn't he have outgrown the running back position? Jacobs is probably 6'4 260. Eddie George and Eric Dickerson were also 6'3 by the way. With this in mind, why are you so adamant that a big back like this kid won't make it in college or the pros?

  • Sure, there's a place for big RB's,I just think when they're too big they're not very good or last very long. Big backs run too high. Have very little agility. Need room to build up speed. Usually only have 1 gear only -no type of acceleration. And they take a ton of punishment trying to run over guys.

Brandon Jacobs is Christian Okoye. How long did he last, hmm? If Whaley is this big this soon, he too will be too big for the position.

  • His size is very big. Dickerson, George, Peterson are the only tall big backs that come to mind in the history of the NFL. But of course wherever position is best for him he should play, if that's RB or LB.

  • Adrian Peterson was running by "scrub 3A Texas players" as well...

  • Hell yea brother

  • Actually AD was running by 4A players. Palestine High School moved down to 3A after he graduated. I'm from Fairfield and Palestine is in our district so I do know what I'm talking about. But Palestine is likely gonna move back up to 4A next year anyway.

  • And just so you know - Fast is Sam McGuffie. Or Joe McKnight. THAT is fast.

Running by scrub Texas 3A players doesn't mean a thing to me. And if you watch closely you'll see he has to build his speed up before he's near fast enough to matter.

  • Are you ignorant? You are comparing a sophomore Chris Whaley to a senior Sam McGuffie and Joe McKnight. Even Notre Dame offered Whaley, a program that has had top recruiting classes these past two years.

  • Are YOU ignorant? The point was about speed. It doesn't check school ID's and it doesn't care how old someone is. You either have it in vast amounts(like McGuffie, McKnight) or you have in smaller amounts, like Whaley.

  • Speed can be developed in time, he runs a 4.5 now, and can be able to run 4.4 flat or faster which will be amazing with his power by his freshmen year. You are judging a sophomore, he more time to develop. McGuffie and McKnight were not as fast his sophomore year as he is now. Open your eyes.

  • dude reminds me of eddie george with his upright running style

  • Ok. He IS NOT better than D.Scott - he's too slow and too stiff. IF he plays his way into the NFL, I'd bet he's plays at FB.

  • O yea to slow right, he ran a 10.7 100 meters as a freshman. Not sure what you are seeing, but the College Coaches around the country most know what they are talking about since almost every top program has offered.

  • He's not fast - look at him. The guys he's running past aren't running at all really.

Rivals has him as a 4.5 40 and I'm certain

that was the BEST time he could possibly put

    up.

And of course he's good enough to get offers -

that's not the point. He'll be a FB in the NFL

if he get's that far. If I were his college coach I'd try him at OLB. That would work out better I think.

  • I have talked to his HS coach for over 2 years now and Im going on the times he has put up.

  • NOT FAST? Are you watching the same fucking video as we are? The guys that are chasing KNOWS they can't catch him so they give up. He covers more ground in one step than those guys do in five. This kid is the really fucking deal. FB?OLB? You don't know shit about football.

  • Look - your opinion is fine. You think he's fast - I think he's high-average. Maybe that has more to do with what I DO know about football than you think. I see a FB or LB, you see Eric Dickerson or someone - psst. Whatever.

He's STILL not better the Darrell Scott. Never has been - Never will be.

And stop cussing like you have no sense..

  • You're right. I apologize. This is no way a Longhorn fan is to act.

As far as how he compares to Scott, well see in a couple of years.

  • I heard Chris has his 100m time down to 10.5secs this spring.

  • Odds are really good, Chris Whaley will soon be too big for the position and thus it's best if he could play LB or even DE. As he grows he'll lose some speed and agility, which would only make him a big ol target for abuse like most jumbo RB's.

Now what's more likely to be more valuable in the NFL? A 6'3 - 240+ straight-line RB who now runs a 4.68 -4.70, or a LB/DE of the same size and speed?

He'll try to play RB but he'd be better off at

LB/DE. That is IF he can tackle.

  • You do realize this is his sophomore video? You do realize that his 4.5 time was last year? He is in track and is a junior, and has almost 2 years to improve a 4.45 forty speed.

  • hes going to nebraska like his brother

  • Ur wrong. HAHA!

  • Texas is going to be a monster team in '09 with a mature line and this animal. holy begeezus. darrel who?

  • What I love about this kid is the fact that he has extremely economical moves - no wasted effort. Natural, fluid style and good fundamentals too. He's not the next ADP, he's the next Eric Dickerson. Just blessed with freakish size and skills.

  • Running like this in the Big 12 is going to get him a spot right behind Henry Melton!

Lower the shoulder every now and then!

    Or pay the price!

  • I told ya'll not to give a fuck about Dumbass Scott. This kid is the next Brandon Jacobs. Size,Speed all the making of the next Heisman for Texas???????

  • i respect that homie

  • I think these are highlights from his sophomore season.

If true, that is very scary.

  • Yeah these are from his sophmore season. I went to Fairfield and we were in the same district as Madisonville so we're in this video for all the wrong reasons. He's a beast!

  • Longhorns cleaning up already!

    #1 QB in the state

    #1 RB in the state

    #1 WR in the state

    #1 S in the state

Top 3 OL in the state!

McFarland and Shepard need to hurry up and committ!!!!!

  • Longhorns it is. I had a feeling he would go to Texas since he has a great chance of playing early and the Longhorns don't let too many big fish get away. This guy will be a great player, no doubt in my mind.

  • What does RP have to do with this class. These kids are from TEXAS and more than likely will remain so.You must root for A & M. Can't say I feel your pain.

  • Try grasping your balls tighter. Works for aggies.

  • Meant as a reply to etg832007

  • Didn't Ryan Periloux commit really early to the sips also?

  • Perilloux was from Louisana...not a Texas product.

  • damn that boy cold if russell shepard commits to texas after the offer these two probably be the starter's for the texas longhorns offense in 2009 i hope colt mccoy have a great juinor season like vince young did and past the offense to a dominate quarter back i hope commits to texas like vince did colt and colt can do to russell

  • YESSSSSSSSSS.... he did commit to Texas already. I like the guys that know where they want to go... You grow up as a kid wanting to play for a team and your dream comes true and you commit early.

Funny thing about him is Rivals and Scout have several other RB's ranked higher... even other Texas RB's higher... BUT he has more college offers than those guys ahead of him... So college coaches rank him higher... Great news.

  • Whaley just committed to the Longhorns! They are gonna have a sick class in '09.

  • he's probably gonna commit to texas today

  • he has good speed for a big guy

he's sord of like a chris wells type guy

  • My bad,Gilbert was offered also.

  • Actually this guy said he didn't care that his brother was going to nebraska.

He's been a long time Texas fan.

I read in an article that Texas has an "Excellance chance" at getting him.

  • FWIW, Whaley was the only player offered a scholarship prior to Texas' Junior Day. Not getting Scott may have been a blessing.

  • Umm, no. That would have Garrett Gilbert, 5* QB for Lake Travis, whom just committed to the Longhorns. Whaley will get his this Saturday.

  • I think Whaley got an offer too... I know Gilbert has committed to Texas. He has a video here... from his soph year and he looks great... as does QB Russell Shepherd... who runs more than throws and is being listed as an Athlete and not a QB at Rivals. Shepherd has a great video here too... He could play CB, WR and be like Crabtree... RB or QB if he really works on his passing numbers.

  • Chris will be one of Mack's top priorities in the 09 class. It appears that we are going to get Gilbert tomorrow so hopefully that momentum carries into the junior days on the 10th and 23rd. If we could get CW along with some of the other juniors visiting then that class could end up being damn good.

    P.S. don't worry, Chris isn't a damn momma's boy like darrell, HE'S A MAN!!!

  • The Longhorns do need a feature back now that Darrell Scott didn't sign. It might be hard to turn down the starting job at UT, especially since there aren't any guys at Texas of this kid's caliber. I think he's one of only two kids with an offer from Texas right now so that shows how much the they want him.

  • Very true. EVERY single featured RB at Texas has gone in the first round under Mack Brown (Williams, Benson, and now Charles). Scott will get punished at Colorado game after game...and run a risk of getting injured because the entire offense will revolve around him + he'll be playing with a mediocre OL. Not choosing Texas will ultimately cost him millions of dollars in his first three-four years in the NFL because he'll get drafted much lower.

  • This looks like the Darrell Scott situation all over again. A not very higly recruited relative only one year older goes to college, this time Nebraska, and one year later the RB comes along that everyone wants... But Nebraska was smart enought to get a good LB in the brother... but now they will get the RB eveyone wants. He is a bull... fits their old style. But I wish he would come to Texas.

  • Not even close. Scott had Colorado all the way; only after Charles declared himself eligible for the draft did he put Texas on equal footing...cudos to Texas for even mixing it up for Scott. This is different...Texas prospects who commit to Texas early, come to Texas (except for Adrian Peterson, who paid his own price...went 1-2 vs. Texas)

  • 0h...and btw, Scott was from CALIFORNIA.

  • arriba las chivas

  • University of Texas'to loose.

  • he's expressed interest to go play where his brother plays(his brother has said he's going to nebraska)
