Does anyone know where I can get a unedited copy of this movie? My parents acted in a wedding scene within the movie but it got edited out on the North American release. I know that the copy that was released in Fiji did have their scene in it.... that's the copy I am looking for.... any help??
Saw this as an early teen. It truly inspired me to adventures in life. I wanted to steal my dad's boat and sail away too! Can't wait to show it to my young daughter.
I'm only online at libraries and friends and neither will allow me to upload to my accounts. My family and friends don't particularly like my politics and am afraid I'll get them arrested....
Pay for me to get a landline and fast access DSL and I'll upload anything your heart desires:D
Looks astounding; Deborah Raffin ... looked a whole lot like France's First Lady, Carla Bruni: both were fashion model's, too; both totally natural looking; whereas, Raffin got pudgy as she aged, Bruni gets harder looking ... otherwise, very much the same facial-type; imagine either one of them chasing you around the globe as you sailed your Dove boat: LOL!
About the only way to get a copy is to get it used thru Amazon, alibris, or any place to get used VHS tapes. Last I heard it was not scheduled to be released on DVD, but times change..
where can i watch this movie, i just finished the book at school and now i wanna watch the movie, does anyone know where i could watch it? i cant seem to find it at any places i go to x.x
I only have a VHS copy I bought through Suncoast video or Blockbuster about 15 years ago. I'm still waiting on the DVD release. I'd post the whole movie if I had high speed hook up. I'm using a relatives computer now which they seldom let me use. They have a desktop publishing business and they don't even know I'm online now:)
I read the book Dove many times before this movie came out. While, overall, I liked the movie, I was somewhat disturbed by many of the glaring technical errors. As is all too often the case, it was Hollywood's idea of what happened, not what actually happened. Still a good flick though...
A much better movie, filmed as it actually happened is BOC Knockdown. The documentary by Don McIntyre of his participation in the 1992 (I think!) BOC Challenge.
I bought a VHS copy years ago, I haven't looked to see if it's on DVD yet, but TBS or TMC showed it in the 80s and 90s. Ted Turner owns the rights or he did before the Time Warner merger/by-out.
I too would very much like to have The Dove theme sung by Lyn Paul. Thank you for asking that question. I was at university when I first saw this film and at the time I was very much a teenage romantic and this film and the song sung by Lyn Paul really moved me in a deep way; echoing some yearning for a feeling I have never yet found. As one got older, those finer feelings slowly faded away and gave way to the harsh realities of mundane existence.
I saw the moive at my teens year, couldn't recall any scene in it: however, the song " sail the summer winds" just keep lingering on my mind all through these years. your comment can not be written any better, as if it speak my mind true heartedly. Does any one know how to get a copy of this film?
He wrote a another book in 1983(which I've purposely not read) called Home is the Sailor. As far as I know he's still in Montana with Patti. He's gotta be 58 or 59 years old. I do know little Dove sank in a hurricane in the 90s. There's a picture of her on the net somewhere from just before H. Marilyn took her. Thanks for the correction.
I'm also looking for a copy of the video and copies of the "National Geo" articles.
Watching the movie all those years ago and reading about Joshua Slocum set something in motion and I'm now in the process of selling my house with a view to buying a boat and making my own dream of sailing alone around the world come true.
I see a couple of old vhs copies of "Dove" are on sale at Amazon UK for the rip-off price of £34 ($68 US) + postage and packing £5.75. Some people take the absolute piss.
Woah.. woah, This book is my favorite, had no idea it was a movie. How can I find it. You've got to read the book if you havent. Dove, by Robin Lee Graham
Yeah, I've read it a few times. The movie picks up when Rob's in Fiji. I only have the VHS,but I saw the movie when I was 16 on cable and fell in love with the story...and Deborah Raffin. She went on to play Eric Camden's alcoholic sister on 7th Heaven. Do you have the three National Geographic mags with Robin and Dove are the featured cover story? I do:)
i was six years old in 1974 and saw the dove and the little prince in a double feature. very heavy and memorible day of my life .
