If anything we are screwing ourselves by basing rights upon the ability to kill and enslave rather than basing them upon respect for the will to live and rejection of undue torture and incarceration.

You remind me of those charlatans who aver that humanity will starve if we stops eating animals. In reality, quite the opposite is true. Generally, one pound of beef represents 7 pounds of plant food which could have been used to feed more humans directly instead.

When did I say that avoiding eating animals will starve humanity? Animals taste great, it's a luxury, and they've also been a part of our diets since before recorded history. You've no more right than I to say what people should or should not consume, and in a free world where people eat meat your veggie-fascism will never prosper. Also, I don't know about you, but my tastes are a bit refined, as in I don't chew cud or graze in fields, so your statistic doesn't carry much weight.

Land is a finite resource. Land used for grazing is land that does not realize its crop producing value.
What a cruel luxury! Not only for the extra food forgone that could have been used to feed hungry humans, but also for the non-human inter-species suffering it causes.
Who is the real fascist? I realize people have choices, but can't I disagree with those choices?

Testing on animals is inefficient and pointless. It diverts our finite medical resources from focusing on human ailments and wastes them on infecting animals then attempting to cure animals. A vaccine for FIV is not a cure for AIDS, my dog's blood would kill a human in a blood transfusion...ect.

Sklurch, your argument sounds like it is conveying the message "You will not be able to stop consuming animal products so why try to minimize your use of the said items?" Firstly, I think it is possible to live a healthy and happy life without using animal products. Secondly, even if it is not -- which I doubt -- one could use that logical structure to argue that we should not have laws or police because it is impossible to solve every crime.

And what happens when you have a medical emergency? Will you deny treatment to avoid using animal products? Medical technology is built on animal testing. You will have to accept the use of animals for products, if not food.

I never understood the point in animal testing when there are so many people that are suffering from potentially terminal illnesses that are not treated. Why not treat Homo sapiens with the new and promising technology regardless of whether they can afford it? Not only would the sickly have a better chance of recovery, but further medical knowledge of HUMAN pathology will be a welcome artifact of the process.

What, are you a doctor? You think they can test one or two people and go sell a new product? It takes hundreds of animal trials for a new medicine to be deemed safe for human consumption. What you are suggesting is truly inhumane; people could die from untested drugs. If you'd prefer animal life over human life, or believe they are on the same plateau, then I simply have nothing more to say to you.

No but, I used to work on FDA trials for drug patients. What kills an animal might cure a human; what cures an animal might kill a human. The value of animal testing is nix. A drug would never make it to the market based solely on animal tests for that reason.
