as you will know that Rafi Sahib was a good tabla player too since it is the tabla that gives a lift and map to the song. also if there is tabla then there is no need for a conductor. the concerts lacked the salt in the curry since there was no tabla.

Maybe they'll get it better next time. Its a good start. Its not that easy for a full fledged western orchestra to conform to indian styles of music. Its a nice experiment. I wish though next time he would speak in English, rather than mixing hindi and english together. He needs to improve in his presentation skills too. I never liked Sonu Nigam but now I seem to like him after listening this. Maybe earlier I found his voice too childish, but ofcourse it suited the small boyish chocolaty heroes like Saif Ali Khan or Salman Khan (initially ofcourse) but it looked so bad on Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol and other macho heroes.

I don't agree. Sonu can change his voice and style to fit any actor including Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol.. just listen to 'marhaba' or 'chal kudiye' 'apne' and many Akshay Kumar songs like 'mera yaar dildar' 'jaane waale jaane waale' etc. Of course, he does the voice of chocolatey heroes best..but he brings out the maturity in his voice in songs like humein jab se mohabbat, mujhe raat din, mannata, etc. He has the most versatile voice today..

Yes, I do agree that he is the most versatile singer today. I did say that 'EARLIER' I didn't like his voice but now I seem to like him, he has off late sung a few extremely beautiful songs and I wouldn't mind them putting on the same shelf as Rafi Sahab's songs in my collection. Mehboob Chohan is the first person who sang Rafi's songs with the world renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on 7th April 2006 at Symphony Hall Birmingham.I attended this concert and I was also at Sonu Nigams concert.Mehboob Chohan was absolutely outstanding,it was a night to treasure Mehboob Chohan sang Rafi's songs better than Sonu Nigam without a doubt. After Mohammad Rafi if someone's versatility and emoting can be sworn by, it is Sonu Niigaam's. Today, Sonu Niigaam is such a big name that only he can bring the attention needed to such a project.
