three things could cause this sound a cracked exhaust manifold .check your torque converter bolts they might be loose.you could have piston slap if vehicle has over 100k piston slap was a real common problem more annoying than anything else.hope this helps
spray brake cleaner along the intake gasket,if it idles up intake leak..if not jus an exhaust...btw the manifold gasket is the same for intake and exhaust..
Mine makes similar noise. Gasket was replaced last spring. My noise comes and goes as it pleases. I have uploaded my tick as well. Did yours have a tendency to go away briefly and come back.
Did the noise go away once the engine was warm? Mine is making a similar sound but it tends to go away once its up to temp. Thought it was a lifter but I just pulled the rockers and pressed on the pushrods but none feel collapsed. Also, mine only makes the noise when there is a slight load on the engine and is quiet at idle
@benjamin343 No the noise was there all the time and put a new gasket on and it is all gone. i would still check gaskets. when the engine heats up it expands which could close the gap. and a load could cause pressure to blow it out making the tick. Best of Luck to Yea hope you figure it all out.
@Snyder9391 Hey. I just need to ask something. My grand cherokee start to do same noise. Was it gasket under cover of vents? Or air intake system? Sorry for my english.

So, what was the noise? I have one making the same noise. The head was rebuilt and installed by local garage. Think they created exhaust leak???
mooney1ful 2 months ago
@mooney1ful The Exhaust/Intake Gasket Blew Out so if your shop used a cheap gasket thats probably what it is.

Sounds like a bad exhaust leak. Check the donut gasket off your header.

@kornybun Oh, I didn't see that you had already figured it out. I'd say the gasket or cracked header.
